Hi all!
I have a strange thing happening with my father's phone... (s2 not rooted)
When I try to install Skype I get a message that I can't "uninstall" the program and that I have to free more memory. Hmm...
He had Skype installed before but uninstalled it awhile ago but is now in need of it again.
I don't have a clue what to do...never seen that error before!
Can anyone help me?

Hi!
Thanks for your answer as well!
Yes a dialog appears with the options "manage apps and cancel". But the strange thing is that memory wise there's no problem and even more strange...it doesn't refer to that I want to install it but rather that I can't uninstall it even though it's not installed???
I will post a screen shot later this weekend, I hope that u guys still will look at my post and maybe can give me some feedback then!
/zwooosh
PS. I hope to not have to factory reset the phone...It wound suck for only the problem with skype! If I do a reset it will erase all data (including all apps) right? I hope to avoid that too.
I forgot to say that I can install all other kinds of apps from the store...hmm!?
Yeah, don't factory reset it just for skype. See if any skype leftovers are found in you device, check folders and whatnot.
Waiting for that screen shot tho.

Have seen this on my previous Xperia S a reboot solved the issue and everything is back looks like a bug
Its to do with the internal mem, if you install to the phone mem the apps wont vanish , if you install the the " SD " some apps vanish . When you restart the system the internal mem fires up last on boot up , hence the phone seams to already allocate its mem to phone.
I hope this is fixed asap , as it bugging me !!
As to what apps get deleted, it seams random . I have 87 apps now on my phone , and don't want to start putting them all in the phone mem!

I have this problem as well i thought it wasn't just me. Sometimes my xperia s crashes randomly when im in an app(wtf) then when i reset the phone an app might be gone. It seems everytime you restart the phone you might lose an app. So try and dont restart till they come out with a fix...
Never had this issue,Maybe a factory reset ot format the sd can solve this problem.
I have this issue constantly with eBay, PayPal, Quickoffice and insider. I now leave these apps on the phone memory. Bloody pain in the arse.

That would explain why I've not seen it then.. Having such a big memory I haven't bothered moving anything off to 'sd' yet.

Never seen this type of behaviour on my XS, however what I did have on my older Android phones was that after a reboot you can see the app icon, but on clicking it it says "App isn't installed". This is purely for "SD" apps and after a few seconds (depending on the speed of your phone) you should be able to open them, but never had them completely disappearing.

This type of behavior has happened to me also on the galaxy nexus and Motorola razr, the same apps too, eBay, PayPal and Quickoffice

I wish recomender and timescape would disapear.
I too have the same issue in my XS..started facing this from last 2 weeks only and my XS is about seven months old! Is there something I can get corrected within warranty period from service center?
hi guys,
have a strange problem, don't know if somebody face the same thing, each time i m restarting my SXS i find that i m losing at least 2 apks, its simply disappear from home screen and when i go to settings/applications i find its there but with blank icon and not working....
any ideas ?
Yes is happening on my Phone to i reboot again and the apps Comes Back.
Don't use the Phone during the mediascanning

Yeah, I got the same issue. F***** annoying. Restart my phone and apps is gone, only a black and white paper icon on them and their process name.
Was not during mediascanning.
That's because you use a version anterior at the system apk
EG:gmail for timescape hehe
The system is 2.3.5
If you install 2.3 over it for work with gmail plugin timescape
When restart the phone it automatically delete wrong version
Even with a game that you buy on your old phone and want to run it on the S
EG:need for speed shift,you transfer
.data on the S then install the apk
And nooo license invalid and after boot the .data is auto delete (sound,files,ect..140M
This phone have security like a bank
Don't forget this :-D
Ciao
the same for me - sometimes apps come back after reboot sometimes disappear... not nice Sony
yep same here, i got that problem too... often use titanium backup for restoring
I've lost Browser and Conversations twice for now. Got them back with Root Explorer.
I am having the same issue. Randomly, 2 apps will disappear from the app tray. its annoying as i have to go back to the market to install them back. has anybody found any solution?
Same problem for me. My solution is I moved all apps internal memory. Now I have no problem.
Omfg...I lost opera, NFS shift, implus pro!!!
I'm not rooted yet, so if I reinstall app I'll lose data!!!
Disgusting!
Why does this happen?

For need for speed,if you not backed up data that on sd somewhere,
I think it be erased in external/.data
In my case yes,
i not find solution for.
Only buy the game again for this phone!
And redownload it :-(
For apk disappear at boot
I go in app setting and clear data,
It give an error
But now,
no problem at every boot for me
Always here ;-)
As previously mentioned, it is definitely a bug related to the installation on the "sdcard partition" of the internal memory, one way to fix it is to move all yours apps to the "internal memory" from the application manager.
Also the apps usually come back after a reboot or if you unmount/remount the partition.
Hi guys and geeks, its time to work your magic and fire up your amazing brain cells. I am totally new here and its my first post, so please dont be that hard at me if ill screw something up
So my problem is after a 2 weeks usage of international version of my SGS3 i got a big problem. It started totally from nothing, to be specific it stopped through day.
Yesterday morning i was updating 1 app from Google play and i left my phone on desk.
I got back to it in evening and found out that 4 apps cannot be updated from unknown reason. I tried manual start of download- nothing, it will not start to download. just rolling the bar. I also found that i cant download any new app from GPlay.
I made a factory reset of phone today. Set it up, and its ready to go. IT STILL CANT DOWNLOAD THAT APPS. Why? Wifi is working normally (ONLY WIFI), can browse websites and so on.
Anyone help ??
Goto settings/Application manager/Google Play Store and select clear data and cache then see if it works.
Just google server problem mybe. Just wait
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I cleared data cache already, and it doesnt worked. Server problem? HUH.... maybe.... Though i highly doubt its server problem because i was asking a few my friends with android phones about this and their market is ok.
So got any ideas? Cuz im now stuck with empty phone after fact.reset and i cant work on it though.
Bump! Any suggestions?
Goto App manager again and uninstall updates.
Nope, i also combined it with phone restart. It cant download apps or update them.
go to settings, accounts and sync, remove google account. Add account again and it should work.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Did it twice now. Result? Phone likes to roll bars. But thats all he wants to do. Still cant start download.
So i contacted Samsung Customer Support about this and i described it at whole. The guy said he would do exact same thing and i have done good. He gave an advice of taking out the battery for 15 mins - it would reset the device and pull it in and try. Still nothing.
Any idea out there? Because if i will not be able to do more, im sending this damn phone to for service repair because i have 2 years warranty. This is truly f*cking unbelievable. My first Android device. Upgraded from HTC HD2. 600€ phone. Crap.
Had a similar problem a few days back where it just gave an error message. Went into settings / all apps and cleared data from Google services framework. Rebooted and it was fixed.
Edit: just remembered, the above solution may have helped but it didn't completely fix my problem. Had to reboot into recovery, the in the advanced tab had to run 'fix permissions ', then all was fine. Only thing I could think of that may have caused the problem was flashing and testing cm10 before restoring my backup.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Tried Google Service Framework, didnt helped.
So i got into that recovery mode but there was no advanced tab. Only something like reboot now, wipe cache, wipe partition, factory reset .. Tried Wipe cache, and so on... Didnt helped....
Check your memory. Make sure there's at least 600-700mb left. My S3 kept giving me update errors whenever my internal memory fell below 500mb

Well if you want to start fresh, flash a CF root kernel and wipe cache, dalvik, system and then a factory reset. Flash a new rom after that. Don't reboot your recovery while doing this because you've wiped 'system' . What ever problems you had should have gone. I normally follow this procedure to make sure for a full wipe
Hope this helps

Sir, i have truly no idea what are you talking about, im just getting that i have to load onto phone some loader and then flash some new rom which im 100% not going to do since i have fresh 2 year warranty and im not planning to break it.
I have already decided. Im calling authorized service center about details for sending my phone to get repaired. Either they will fix it, or ill get a new phone. Only good and Better.
So after few frakking days im back...
SUDDENDLY after 2 days of my last post it started working again like a charm. Downloaded most of the apps.
Then next day, it was gone again... Stopped working...
Also now its error 495 but after a very long time of rolling the bar ,like 10 mins.
AAH MY GOD HELP ME PLEASE WITH THIS!
IM totally absolutely desperate !!!!

Hi, I had the same problem as you and I 'fixed' it by Stopping the 'Downloading' rolling bar and then resuming it. I found that fixes it
Let me know if this works :good:
I wanted to try it but there is no pause button though, look for yourself

All right, there has to be a way to get this working since I had the same problem too
Try this :
Turn your phone off and on
Open Play Store and go into the screen where it says "X Updates available" and they are listed in rows
Click Update All and then the blue loading line starts to animate. Wait for a few seconds then click the X next to the first item that is downloading to stop it
Click Download/Resume again
It should start downloading.
The above steps worked for me, I got the S3 day before yesterday and I came across this problem for about 10 minutes 'til I did the steps above
Let me know how it goes :fingers-crossed:
Guys, i have a strange problem.
when updating some apps (like Flipboard} i get the error "storage capacity insufficient"
wth? I got 11Gb free on my phone! I am on stockrom, any idea?
Aye, I have the same problem, matey!
I'm on stock ICS XXLG8 (BTU- Bio Thermal Unit XD). Caaaaaaan anyone help us? I've cleared Google Play Store's data. Didn't work. I wiped cache. Didn't work. I don't know what else to do!
Root/System/App and delete the relevant .odex file
If we're not rooted, we can't access root. It's completely stock ICS.

Today i wanted to install a new app (avast) from Google play but instant getting this error
Just a thought, may try clear data of PlayStore and perhaps also uninstall update of PlayStore if any.
well, actually i did that already.
its only possible to un-install the update of playstore because its a "system-app"
this thing really bothers me, i am coming from an rooted HD2 that i flashed constantly with a new rom. Finally i was tired from it because of the storage capacity. I bought myself a phone with an 16GB storage and i get the same error except i have 11GB free in storage, grrrr
thanks for your suggestions :good:
Today i called samsung support.
The girl i spoked to suggested that i transferd my photo's to SD-card because the apps problably needed the 11.3GB storage to update....
i just hung up the phone..
the only thing that i know causing that error is bcoz of lucky patcher but in your case. i think its better to do factory reset? it wont damage your android..dont worry.. try it. and may i know if u using any custom rom? or kernel? app that u install
With 11GB to play with I'd think it isn't InternalSD space needed. I'd guess the msg is really telling you the 1GB is too full. Which might be why Factory Reset works - clears out the extra SW loading into RAM. I'd look on Play for a utility to manage/clear memory and see if that changes things. If so, take a close look at what you're loading and make sure you really need it.
---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:22 PM ----------
I had a look around Play - I'd stay away from RAM Manager, it wants you to DL other stuff (including a Casino app) when you start it. I looked for ones with a Pro version; the Dev has to impress you with the free one to get you to upgrade so (IMO) you get a good deal on the free one. Smart RAM Booster looks good but I like the list of features in Memory Booster - RAM Optimiser.
Can't hurt to give one of them a try and see if it helps things. Others here may know of more S3-specific tools. Mind you, Smart RAM Boster (& Pro) are also on Samsung Apps so that might be the way to go, initially at least.
EDIT: Hm... Memory Booster is also on Samsung Apps - in both cases, Samsung has a 15c premium on the Pro versions - looks like it costs exgtra to use Samsung Store for apps. Hadn't realised that before this...
One rule with Gingerbread and up: dont use memory "optimizers". Ever!
As already said in second or third post of the thread: it most likely is a leftover odex file. Remove it (afaik formatting cache+dalvik cache solves it too) and everything works fine again

Finally i "solved" the problem.
Flashed to a custom rom
Thanks for your time guys!
Hey, my device internal storage got like free 1-2gb space, sometimes it accidently (no special time) tells me that i got full storage and i can't even recieve any messege. free space is like 16kb. If i leave it like this it will be fixed alone after sometime like 10 minutes for example. I couldn't find any reason why is this happening. I attached my system info and screen shots for my most strange apps. i also uploaded this short video to youtube to show you guys the problem (ignore clean master in the video because i deleted it, when i got that app installed i think the problem happens more!)

You will find no help here with lucky patcher installed. This app is banned and any that, use it are tossed to the wolves so to speak.
What is most likely happening is the caches from other apps are eating up your space until they get cleared. With this low budget device I would keep apps and files to a bare minimum.

Any app that bypasses paying for an app is banned here. Developers don't take to thieves very well. Good. That app can give you all kinds of junk that messes up devices.
You could enable adb on the device and run a logcat. This will take some time to catch the issue.
Or you could do a factory reset and see if it still does it. This way you will know if it is a system app.

My 2 cents here, if it helps.
1. Since you have root access, try and and use a good (system) app uninstaller and completely uninstall any apps you do not use. (my guess is you already did that?)
2. Reboot (must step after finishing uninstalling for better follow-up, clean-up process)
3. Try and use SD Maid. On first use, grant it superuser access, go to options and customize folders, give permissions to clean system folders and apps. You might be surprised to see as much as half a GB available for cleaning/ deletion. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm&hl=en
Let me know how it went, if you haven't already tried the posted suggestion.
