Usb OTG with Usb hub - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've bought an USB host wire and an USB hub as I've seen that these were necessary to plug usb devices to the motorola atrix but it doesn't works.
Devices are powered but the phone doesn't recognise them (even for the usb drives...)
Does someone know how to make it work, do I have to mod the hub or do something like that?
I hope someone will find the answer to my problem (I've used the search bar several times and didn't find it)
Ps: Is it the right section to post this ? I'm hesitating with the Q/A

I think USB devices through OTG cable only work in webtop. Normal Android system has no support for client devices. I could be wrong though.
No idea about the section. Let's just leave it here.

AS everything works with the same setup on my friends phones.
Unless motorola has screwed us again and it's why Im talking about mod, I don't see the reason why it shoudn't work on our phones

you need a kernel with OTG support, the atrix supports it only when plugged in the HDDock or in the LapDock, if you manage to make it recognizes the USB Hub as the Dock, you should have everything working, also, you could check faux123's kernel, i dont remember, but it may support it.
but from what i got, it was supposed to be working after android 4.1(or not, the GNexus and the Nexus 10 support it, dunno if or why the N4 and N7 doesnt.)

I'm under avatarRom son I dont know.
I've heard that to make it able to be recognized as a dock, the only to do it is to power the phone through the usb wire, can anyone confirme that before I butcher my hub ?

that's an example of usb keyboard & mouse set attached to my atrix running epinter's 4.2.1. we were playing sports head soccer flash game, it was a bit slow anyway

You can try with nebtop app, which simulates the docking event, even without any hdmi connected, it stills offers to start the clock, so i suppose that effectively simulates hd dock

I've tryied but it seems to be limited to blur roms :/
Anyway, I have a lot of hope in the 3.1.0 kernel whiwh is being built by the community, wich will apparently support usual usb otg

Explain me the way you do it ^^
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app

Look its very simple. First you have to connect the hub with the phone (via the otg cable). Then you connect the hub with the charger (need usb male->male) so the ports are powered ... and VOILA the remaining ports are free for you
PS: i think that the quality hubs have something like power protection (?). In my case i first tried some ebay hubs (but they didnt made it for more than one week) so i bought a cheap (10$) ,but very good, from a local store
Ps2: sorry for 3days delay

Do you mean that you use a charger to turn a non powered hub in a self powered hub ? Mine is self powered...
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app

Yes thats excactly what i do, because the local store hadnt a powered usb hub, but it should also work with a powered hub.
In your case everything is powered but nothing recognized by the phone ? Does the phone charge when connected with the powered hub ?

If you make a quick search on google y will see a thread witch tells how to bypass a king of security the hubs (should) have for power. Maybe thays your problem

I don't know if my hub has this security, for the moment I don't have a male/male usb wire, so I can't try anything

So it is powered from an external power supply from a round port like laptops?
I think you should try with a usb male->male

Exactly, it's that hub (sorry for the size):

It's what I'm going to try, but maybe I could keep the power supply by pluging the phone to the hub using as usb otg + male/male wire
(I will try this week end)

Actually thats exactly what i use.
The white cable is connected to the (only) mini usb port because i had only one nale-male usb cable.
Also there are 2more usb ports that are not shown in the pic
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app

I have the same problem as the op. Do I have to connect the phone via OTG cable to one of the regular ports of the powered hub or to the one USB-B port of the hub, where you normally would connect a PC?

Bull****. You not break anything with phone usb. Just nothing happend.
Well It's my fault... there wore a whole bunch of wires on the table and I probably short circuit it >.< aw That was a good drive but I can probably say that that it didn't work since the flash didn't light up at least once. Also I thing I probably mixed the red and the black wires... the stupidity of me... I don't wanna fry my other 8gig's so be careful and not as genius as me. (At least it wasn't the phone!:O)
oh yeah the drive when I plug it in the pc - nothing. no lights, no recognition, no life.
The way I was doing it was lazy cause I didn't want to start to solder anything. I had a port and I try'ed to to plug in the drive and the phone next I used a hub witch is in my monitor witch I think did the trick for some reason. I'm not using some freakin' duck tape made adapter next time...What do you think happened to the drive?I didn't learn well yet.

you plug this into the usb and hdmi ports on the photon. you plug in the micro hdmi and power supply micro-usb output to the adapter?

Ignorance forgiven. My understanding is that with just the micro hdmi cable you wont have access to the webtop application unless you root and mess around with the phone. This is a cheaper solution than the hd dock

I dont see the point of this. As long as you have to buy the hdmi cable anyway just hook it up directly to the tv. Bluetooth keyboard works with bluetooth keyboard app (I have not tried bluetooth mouse as of yet).

i have not had good luck with bt keyboards and mice.
they both tend to go unresponsive intermittently and that makes them difficult to use.
this was with multiple photons and a keyboard and mouse that worked perfectly on other computers.

Have you tried pressing 0000 or something similar. I had to do this blindly. There is a post on XDA that discusses this.
Also, how can I get the webtop app if I am root without the gadgets?

this isn't a pairing issue, they pair with no issue. but the mouse and keyboard go unrrsponsive frequently but work fine with a pc.

USB storage mode no longer working - ideas?

Currently running UnNamed 1.3 and trying to access through Macbook Pro laptop. It worked great up until the other day. Phone no longer gives me the option to enter usb storage access mode when plugged in.
I did a quick search and found that it could be a kernel issue. I flashed an updated entropy kernel, but it didn't help. I've tried toggling USB debugging, as well as manually enabling USB mass storage through Wireless and Network > USB utilities.
Any ideas as to why my phone may not be allowing USB mass storage access? I use to access it simply by plugging the phone in and enabling from the pull-down menu but it no longer allows me to (just says "USB Connected, MTP Connected". I'm using the factory data cable as well.
Any ideas?
Did you use SiyahKernel at all?
This might be a side effect of the build.prop modification it does, not sure.
Another case of usb port failure?

I sure hope my USB interface isn't broken! I guess for now I'll but a card reader too use for transferring files, for now. I intend to update to the latest Un Named ROM and see if that solves anything.

Hai dudes,
I bought Callmate USB OTG Cable from Flipkart, Am having Xperia Sola loaded SXDXPepperZ1 ROM v3.1 Final Release Rom.
When am inserting OTG cable with and without a Pendrive, its getting rebooted.
Please help me to solve it friends....
rather make your own than buy one, I heard some devices are wired differently. ie. a samsung cable frying a sony usb port.
for better support, unlocking your bootloader will allow you to use a kernel with that support.

Micro USB OTG adapter and USB accessories!! Mouse. keyboard. USB flash drives.

Hey first time starting a topic I hope I'm not doing anything wrong.
Anyway I had bought an OTG micro USB to USB 2.0 adapter for my nexus seven and just tried it on my verizon galaxy note 2 and had success with keyboards. Mice. And an off brand USB memory stick!!!!
Wanted to spread the word this is definitely useful for me.
Plus I found my adapter for 2$ on Amazon. It took a long time to arrive from China but works.

I too ordered mine from Amazon.com, took a while to get here. Think I paid about $2. It's really cool to have, I honestly don't even use it just wanted to have it on hand. I do bring it with me to class in case someone has a flash drive and I need a quick file from them.

I use a usb xbox controller and otg to play final fantasy 7 . Works great. Flash drives and even a 1tb usb 3 hard drive all work (Paragon needed to mount ntfs)

Anyone having luck with USB PlayStation 3 controller? I can only get it to work with Bluetooth and "six axis controller" app.
Or is a ps3 controller always running Bluetooth?

I think it only runs Bluetooth. AFAIK, the cable is only for power and pairing.

Not true. It indeed works for play as well. People over in the Asus tf201 forum have been using them for play for almost a couple years now.

I've been using a ps3 controller, to get it to connect to bluetooth I still had to connect it via usb. After usb bluetooth worked fine. This is with the sixaxis app

I got my first one for less than 1$ from Amazon a while ago. Used it with a sd card adapter and worked well

I believe that "USBjoy" is capable of doing that, although I have not done it. Sixaxis just works and thats Good enough for me.
Edit-sorry, the app has a new name "USB/BT Joystick Center 6" please note this app is advanced and not very user friendly, but it does have a lot of features.

I got a regular OTG to USB cable, and also got one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321065678396?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Makes it very nice to hook up multiple things at the same time. At one point I had 3 flash drives and another micro sd in there, and the Note 2 seen all 4 of them as well as the internal and external microsd on the back w/o a problem.
Also, I didn't expect this to work, but the Note 2's OTG port will spit out enough current to spin up my 1.5TB My Passport drive without any help. I was utterly shocked. I left it hooked up for about 5 minutes and never seen the battery go down even a %. Too bad it was formatted as NTFS otherwise the phone would have seen it.

So I got a hold of a wire adapter for my xbox controller but when I plug it in nothing works. Was there anything you had to do mount or install?

Back in the day I tried using a wired xbox 360 controller on my computer.... Turns out if your using an adapter the controller is still blue tooth. But if you have a legitimate wired controller not the adapter it should work... Should.
