Firstly, it might be possible that your phone doesn't have the required drivers of the card reader....I too had the same problem once when i connected a local china card reader to my phone via OTG, it didn't work at all...just the light was blinking..
Then I tried an iball card reader with the same memory card...it worked perfectly..
Remember that our OTG doesn't support reading ntfs file system type...you'll need an app for that...make sure the mmc you're using is FAT32..
Whereas for that "removed unexpectedly"...Which OTG cord are you using???
Is it the official Samsung OTG?? Or you purchased just something from eBay..
Coz I had bought 2-3 via eBay, every piece gave the same problem...but the official one didn't...So try out the official OTG once and tell whether you experience the same problem or not..
Press thanx if i helped..
Thx!
Thus, the system is not to blame, but the OTG cable is bad? I just don't understand, why the pendrive works perfectly ...

Here's an example - I live next to a small road. I can drive on it to work and back home in my car just fine, but an 18-wheeler couldn't.

Well...even if its not the official one...its a good copy of it, the hardware structure of these otg's are similar to that of the official ones... else it wouldn't work properly nor anyone would buy it (ofcourse they made usable/functional otgz which would sell and be cheap for everyone)..
Simply to put it its a temporary otg which people buy to check out how good and useful the function of otg is to them.... If they're using it pretty frequently then they should go and buy the original one. ..if not then its just another accessory of the phone kept worth you for emergency times. ...
Try and see whether the problem still persists with the original otg and post...

Define "doesn't work". What're you trying to plug into it?
Most things you plug into it will need more power, so you'll need to run them off a hub unless it's a very low-powered device like a usb memory stick.
I think the thread author was pretty clear. "Doesn't work" means that it is not working. How hard is that to understand?
Look here:

It would be great to have it back...
ROM developers, can you do it?
Thanks

I am having the same problem.
Got my cable today and can´t get it to work.
Nothing shows when i connect pen drives, tried 3.
I am using 2.3.5 XWKJ1, ROOTED
THANKS.
I read from somewhere that 2.3.5 took away OTG support. You have to use a ROM that supports it. Also, if you want to mount a NTFS partition, you need the fuse.ko specifically compiled for your kernel version. For instance, Siyahkernel comes with its own fuse.ko. The regular fuse.ko you find in this forum would work for he CF-root kernel while none is compiled for the TWD kernel yet. FAT32 should mount automatically.
It works for me. Except NTFS files won't show up in gallery automatically. I have to use es file explorer to open.

Thanks for helping.
Looking around can´t find a rom that says OTG working or 2.3.5 does not support usb OTG.
I´ll try to install 2.3.3 to see if works or the cable i have got might be faulty.
As far as I know every custom rom except the stock rom will support OTG, at least for FAT32-formated sticks. USB sticks work for me in both NTFS and FAT32. I attempted to mount a solid state drive but failed. The SSD light is lit only for half a second. I guess the phone doesn't have enough juice to power a SSD. I haven't tried putting it in an enclosure that supports external power though.

Buy a SATA to USB converter, and connect the USB one to your phone.
Then you connect the power connection of your SSD to your PC, start up your PC and it must work
Sent from my GT-I9100
I tried that. It seems sata to USB converters are not supported by galaxy either.
I have a stock 2.3.4 SGII, rooted.
Sata2USB works, as long as the phone doesn`t have to power the device. If I use one of those USB cables that has 2 connectors on one end (1 is for additional power) and let the PC power the USB device, the phone works perfectly with external HDDs.
I haven`t tested NTFS yet, but it works perfectly withg FAT32, ext 2/3/4, either on usb drives or external HDDs.
The only problem is that non-FAT32 partitions must be manually mounted.
Hii guys i recently got to know that lww got otg support
And i tried attaching usb pendrive with otg cable..it keeps saying unsupported usb device attached
I tried usb host controller..there its showing pendrive attached..but no option to open it.Does our lww support usb pendrive with otg cable????
Install custom kernel that support it or custom rom.
Stock LWW has full support for it. No custom stuff needed.
USB flash drives have to be FAT32 format. Also, do not use external hard drives which take power from USB or you might mess up the phone's hardware.

Then what is the use of saying otg support in specs?..if we need hacks to use it

I used OTG cable with LWW
I used custom kernal, but the unsupported USB device found message whenever i connect the pen drive,
Then i found Q5 application in XDA, but now i can't able to find now. Just google it.

Dude the someguyfromhell saying that pendrives work by making pendrive in fat32 format..so i am waiting for reply from him to confirm the procedure
Calm down, I am not 24/7 online on the forum.
From what I know, then Android only supports FAT32 USB sticks. Yes, you have to format it to FAT32 first on computer and then try again.
Also, you might need another file manager to explore the contents of the USB stick.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the app. Try searching on Google.

Just usbotg.apk will not work. Other libs and files are also needed.
Also, stock WT19 requires no modifications, except that app to explore usb sticks.

OTG does not work
I have just bought a xperia u (st25i)
I have tested different OTG cables but non of them works.
in the storage menu USB storage options are not active.
the phone is manufactured in April 2012. the OS is android 2.3.7
I do not want to loose the warranty so I have not tried to root it.
should it be necessarily be rooted? or I should just try to find the proper OTG cable?

Your cable is probably wrong. If you have another device and the same cable works there, apply for RMA.
I got cable today too, and at first I thought it didn't work. After reboot I connected 16GB MS with power consumption error, so I tried a 4GB MS and it worked. Looks like I need a new memory stick or a separate powered hub between OTG cable and ms

Connect the USB device before starting the tablet. Then recognizes it without any problems, until it fails again, and just repeat the operation. Sorry for my English.

You must know that I had the same problem with the Alpha3 and I had to do what "garbanzito" suggests in his post (quoted below).
Now I'm on Alpha4 and I have no problem in mounting USB HD or USB Pendrive...!

Exactly what I had to do with the Alpha3 and it worked every time.
I've intalled NEXUS MEDIA IMPORTER (pay app) and detects and shows all the USB stick content. From there, you can play movies, view photos and play music from your USB stick (at the moment of plug in your stick) instead the USB stick is not shown for the rest of the system...
So I've seen too, that unplugging the external SD card, sometimes mounts the USB stick plugged in...hope this could help developers...
And I would to thanks the hard work made for this awesome tablet.
Hi
I have bought a usb connector to connect my flash drives with my phone. Every time i connect the connector i get the message USB connector connected but right after connecting the usb i get SD Card is Damaged. Try Reformatting it.
I used to have Omega rom and it was working fine for a couble of weeks but suddenly the message came up again so i flashed the official 4.3 android for S3. The problem still persists... FYI the phone is rooted and with stock rom and kernel.
Any help?
Thank you
I don´t have the problem with USB flash disk. Format: Fat32
I have tried all kind of format disk but still the message Damaged SD Card shows up..
And did you try another USB OTG or another Flash disk?
Yes i tried 3 usb flash drives and also USB OTG Checker app that gave me positive results about the cable..
I think the problem is with your otg cable. Go to a accessories shop and check it there before you buy it. If it's not with the otg cable then may be it must be with the port

Thanks anw for your responses
Ok i finally figured it out. After a a lot of formatting of my usb drives on windows i tried to format those in my Puppy Linux OS with the same format as before (FAT 32). After that everything worked. Seems like linux can when Windows can't
Thanks for your help hope i helped other facing the same prob.
