[Q] Help to root - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I'm new to the Android world and I wonder how do I root the x10 mini E10a that my brother gave me.
From what I've been reading, I must be very careful not to make the root on a wrong firmware version, so I would like your help, if possible, create a step-by-step.
And that is my phone information:
Model number: E10a
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404006
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Build number: 2.0.A.0.504

A quick guide:
1. Go to 'settings-apps' on your phone.
2. Check the option 'unknown sources'.
3. Go to 'settings-apps-development' and check the option 'USB-Debugging'
4.Download and install the software from this link (for windows):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2122682
5. Connect your turned on phone to your computer (if its the first time you connected your phone, a popup like 'installing new driver software' could appear, wait till it says 'successfully installed')
6. Open the software you installed.
7. Click 'Root' in the newly opened window.
8. Wait for the process to finish.
9. Done! Your phone is rooted!
Please press thanks if I helped .

Use flashtool or superoneclick for the computer

Now I'm trying to install a ROM, but the requiriments are:
Root and CWM Recovery already installed
Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6 SE firmware due to kernel dependencies.
My firmware version is 2.0.A.0.504 so I tried it below:
Force-update to 2.1.1.A.0.6
Grab this build.prop file and copy it to your sdcard
Using Root explorer, backup your /system/build.prop file and copy the grabbed build.prop file to /system/build.prop
Reboot twice and try to re-update your firware. You might need to force-update if SEUS or PC-Companion says you already have the latest firware.
Once the update completes, check again your firmware version.
Unfortunately, after I did it above, still can't update the firmware. Tried with SEUS and PC-Companion and both says that I already have the latest version and gave me no option to force update.
What can I do now?

Just install newest software via Seus, even if it says you have newest software (NOTE: I'm not absolutely sure if this works, only whenever I reflashed via Seus, I always had newest firmware on my phone).

Yes that's right . You just need to install via SEUS even if it says that you already have latest version bla bla bla it doesn't matter just install anyway. The rest is just root phone and instal cwm ( for me i used unlockroot to root the phone, it never fails ), then just flash the kernel you want by flashtool and you're ready to go, the rest is just flash your roms and stuff xD.

You can flash the ROM via xRecovery to get the latest baseband & kernel.
Is in general section, make a little search.
I could install via flash, the problem is that my phone is not recognized by the PC, that includes the flash mode
basically the only thing I can do is use the xrecovery, and acess the SD card.
so I stuck to the baseband version of .49.
anyway I think I found the post about it. Tehouster Thanks!

You can use xRecovery for the FW, but the kernal needs to be flashed with the flashtool.
this is the post I had seen,
Although I can install the 435.zip with xrecovery
but not to install the 435_FT.zip because this is installed via Flashtool...
By the way, installing only the 432.zip, the baseband becames Unknown and will not recognize SIMCARD

Cannot access Xrecovery since SEUS update to build .435

I have found *similar* threads but not exactly this : Prior to updating to .435 through SEUS, I was able to use Xrecovery 0.2 to backup my system image. I just tried to backup a new updated image, and I cannot access xrecovery. I know the procedure is to hit the back button repeatedly at the white SE logo, and that worked prior to the update, but now it just continues to boot up the phone into normal mode. I tried to reinstall xrecovery with the Xrecovery APK already i the app drawer, but no dice. The backup files I already created are still in /sd/xrecovery/backup. I saw them through root explorer. If this question has already been asked, I am sorry. I did do a search
I am rooted with SuperoneClick. Titanium Backup, Busybox & Superuser all verified working.
Thanks all!

I flashed custom ROM to get 2.1.A.0.435 update and xRecovery is installed(.3) so I recommend that.
I tried both the manual file copy way and the auto install from the APK. identical result from both.. no xrecovery on reboot. I did get a suggestion to try to actually flash xrecovery using the new flashtool .026, which includes an option to install busybox/xrecovery. I will try that as soon as soon my phone charges back up and post the result.
Thanks everyone!

Baseband .71

i want update mi android to 2.3.3 actually i have CM-6-2.0_Achotjan_freexperia_project 2.2 (froyo) my baseband is .54 and my kernel is 2.6.29 my question is, if I install baseband .71 it will be the same with .54? i mean can i do calls, text messanging? and other features? i live in southamerica - bolivia plz help me...
BB.71 as i believed is only for 2.3 ROM
so u must install the ROM first! and then flash the FTF for kernel and BB through flashtool
If you flash 71 your phone will likely not boot. This was what happened to me when I tried to go back to WolfBreak's CM6 after installing the SE 2.3.3
so, if i want 2.3.3 i must install BB .71 ? but my phone will work OK ?
yessssss because BB71 must go with 2.3!!!!!!
so, wich one i must install first? ROM android 2.3? or baseband.. .71? I have all files to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 but I dont know in wich folder of flashtool must copy baseband file (.ftf)
1. Flash rom in xrecovery, when you finish put out battery from phone
2. Copy ftf files to: flashtool/firmware
3.Open flashtool and click "flash"
4.Connect USB and put battery on and hold back button.
5.After it, reboot phone.
Mixed instructions
I'm seeing different instructions from different posts. Simply put, I want to get Android 2.3 on my xperia x10a (with AT&T).
Some guides say to install the baseband 2.1.71 FIRST, whereas this post says to install it AFTER you install the ROM. So which is correct?
Is it even possible to do this on an x10a ? Most pages say 2.1.71 baseband is for x10i, but some pages say it doesn't matter if you have a/i.
Please help to clear up this confusion. I want to get Gingerbread on my phone but the instructions are so chaotic I'm afraid I'll brick my phone.
I'm not an idiot; I'm a computer science major and have released an Andorid app that I developed solely on my own using vim/eclim/command line tools in Linux.
Thanks,
Xan
Please Confirm
Can someone please confirm that these instructions are correct?
Additionally I CAN NOT find a download for the Baseband .71 anywhere? Please help!!
1. Flash rom in xrecovery, when you finish put out battery from phone
2. Copy ftf files to: flashtool/firmware
3.Open flashtool and click "flash"
4.Connect USB and put battery on and hold back button.
5.After it, reboot phone.

[ROOT][ICS][Locked bootloader] for ICS 4.0.4, baseband .431

Hi all!
This how-to applies for locked bootloader phones.
What you will need?
ICS 4.0.3 ftf*: http://www.4shared.com/rar/2Lf1ikwm/ST18i_41A0562.html
ICS 4.0.4 ftf*: http://www.mediafire.com/?2o2glqbm6oyf9m9
Root_v5 hack: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600728
CWM installer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346190
*Note: Alternatively download stripped down ftf files (kernel.sin + loader.sin):
ST18i_4.1.A.0.562_kernel.ftf http://www.mediafire.com/?gbs29dw3tzx765k
ST18i_4.1.B.0.431_kernel.ftf http://www.mediafire.com/?jz462u07zjxqd9h
Preliminary step:
= First off, install full ICS 4.0.4. You have to be on ICS 4.0.4 in order to proceed.
= The easiest way to do so is to use Flashtool to flash 4.0.4 ftf and DE-SELECT wipe data! Thus your current apps will be kept.
= By installing 4.0.4, if you had root, you will lose it. But worry not, here is what you should do:
Follow this 3-step process:
1) By using the Flashtool flash only the kernel (kernel.sin + loader.sin) from ICS 4.0.3
= For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings
= Put the ftf file into the firmware directory of flashtool (usually c:/Flashtool/Firmware), open flashtool and select flash, then flashmode, chose the 4.1.A.... firmware and select exclude Fota, system and baseband , select 'No final verification' and DE-SELECT wipe data, cache and apps log. Click OK and follow instructions (power off phone, press volume down button and plug the usb).
2) Boot the phone and do regular Root_v5 hack + CWM installation (CWM-5.0.2.7-nAa-r2)
= When it's finished you can root with the Root_v5 tool following its instructions
= Now install CWM recovery by using the CWM Installer following its instructions
3) By using the Flashtool flash only the original kernel from the ICS 4.0.4 provided ftf.
= For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings
= Now do the same operation as 1) with 4.0.4 ftf file and you're done.
Enjoy!
p.s. Thanks to Frakkia and others for useful tips.
