Hi guys it's me again,
I've been around XDA a bit and found that the forum has one of the lowest activity rates I've seen. I mean this phone was hugely popular! Why so few people are here? I think we need to kick some life back into this old dog and show people it's not gone yet. Where are all the developers at? This thing needs more Roms we can't expect Psyke83 to do EVERYTHING!
When I was using this device a few months ago most devs are at madteam's boards, one of those few devices that doesn't have the majority of activity at xda!

Might take a look over there... still wish it had more XDA activity though...
AW: Why so little?
It's because everyone who buys another phone, sells his g5 and yes some time ago it was popular, but it's like all low-activity phones (Galaxy y, ...): their forums will all "die" and it doesn't matter how much ROMs we port or develop. This is my opinion...

Is it just me or is there a lot of impatient people within this community. It seems nearly every Rom thread has people demanding that things happen now. These developers have a life too, and use part of their time to create roms for the benefit of all......for FREE. It is not a job for them although some of them could look at employment in the industry and manufacturers should look at some of these developers to help create OS for their models.
If the impatient people cannot wait for updates, fixes etc either fix it yourself or go back to stock so you can bother the people that actually get paid to create roms(in this case, Sony).
BTW, I am still on GinTonic. It does what I want it to do.

Definitely. As a dev being asked for ETAs isnt too bad but some idiot practically demanded an update. Not only had I just had a week on exams but I had just moved to a completely different source tree and was working very hard to get a working build. ETAs im polite to but if you demand an update I will take out all the stress I have built up on you. Be warned people. (asking for an ETA from ME is fine I dont mind but other devs do get annoyed at it sometimes)

You guys both joined last november 2010 nice.
I just have about 400 more posts

That's right. That would be because you actually have the knowledge to contribute to the community. I don't have the time to learn all this stuff and I rely too much on the phone to be changing and testing. Recovering from a broken back, physio all get in the way. I mainly come here to read the interesting stuff that you guys have got going on. My contract with th x10mp is nearly up so I am planning either galaxy s2 or 3 or maybe one of sonys new handsets. Once I do that I may look at using the mp as a test handset to learn more.

I am a fairly new member here and I must say that I love this place. This has been the most useful site I have ever come across, concerning things android. Tinkering with electronics and computers has been one of the things that came naturally to me and so getting my first android was pretty exciting as I've never cared for iOS or Blackberry platforms. I have always been interested in Linux, which probably helped in my decision to go with android ( price also played a factor lol ). My first android was an INQ Cloud Touch, which I immediately rooted, installed busy box and ROM toolbox. Nice phone, but sadly it was also my first and only hard brick. lol. A twitchy thumb and system files = a bad thing. Replacement phone was the HTC Status ( chacha ) which I couldn't get the bootloader unlocked ( did eventually thanks to xda, now running CM9 ). So I went looking for another phone and stumbled on the Samsung Galaxy Ace and fell in love with it. Thanks to these forums the Ace was the first phone I rooted and installed a custom rom on. It is also the one that I've gotten brave enough to try a few different scripts on to extend the internal memory.
My sincere thanks for all the developers here, and for the members willing to offer any help. This is the site I have been recommending to anyone I know who have expressed an interest in improving thier android experience. A little knowledge, some curiosity and a willingness to try anything, can be a great thing...unless you brick your phone, then experience is a teacher as well. lol.
Thanx again.
the ace is a nice phone with lots of dev support

So, I've been playing with the nexus4 for a couple months now. Having a device that's officially supported is nice, and there's definitely no shortage of aosp roms. I don't particularly miss sense, but what I do miss is this dev/user community.
The devs that remain here are incredibly patient and ridiculously helpful compared to what I've been dealing with in the n4 section.. The rootbox dev actually closed his thread because people were reporting bugs and asking for support with a flawed release. It was unbelievable to me. Then I found out that it's not uncommon for devs to release a Rom just to have their name on something..
So, from the perspective of "newer and better things", dev support makes a huuuuge difference in the user experience. Thank you to all the devs here for sticking it out and helping this community thrive. All the roms in the world couldn't make up for that. You are all truly invaluable to the android experience, and I hope the users here never take that for granted.
Thanks again,
Dan
P.S- I'm aware that I probably didn't need my own thread for this.. But I just had to pop that cherry .

Helpful information to share, at least I think so. The lack of love the Rez has gotten from Big Red makes me leery about buying a third HTC phone(started with the Incredible). I am considering Nexus for the next purchase, or even seeing if the iPhone is all its cracked up to be! (blasphemy, I know). I do love the Devs that have stuck it out though. And it's good to hear from someone who's gone elsewhere...

Its weird how different the forums are for different devices. Everyone is so chill on the galaxy nexus section but the nexus 4 section is really uptight.

I agreed. Of all of the forums I've been a part of, this one is by far the most chill. Seems like the VZW GSIII forums can be really uptight sometimes, and the thunderbolt forums are just... Awful now. It's like anarchy there.

This forum section is like the droid incredible one.....well considering most people on here came from the incredible its kind of expected. Everyone, for the most part, treats each other with respect and acts like a community
I can accept failure but I can't accept not trying.
+1 to that. Our devs rock
I am due for an upgrade June 1st, and one of the biggest things I am looking at is the dev communities for each. I absolutely despise Touchwiz, which means, if I get the S4, I'm unlocking it literally the second it is in my hand, On the flipside, I would like to keep up with Android versions, so the 4.1.2 on the HTC One irks me a bit(so I'd unlock that as well). Anyway, I was wondering if any of the devs here are working on, or planning to get and work on, either of these devices. It would be kind of nice to keep the same ROMs across devices if possible. Thanks!

This is the correct forum? I guess I should edit my post to make it clearer, but I was asking if any Nexus 10 devs are also working on either device.

hey my upgrade is June 1st as well lol
i think im going to get the S4. looks like $149.99 for Sprint?
tried last week (about 15days til 1st) said i could get can early upgrade for $100. smh
today is about 9 days i guess, wonder if they will let me upgrade without that fee
As soon as there is an unlock for the ATT Galaxy S4 I bet Ktoonsez will start making kernels for that. he has a great kernel for the S3 and I know he owns an S4 now.
I just wanted to wish you guys good luck, but I've moved on to the moto x. I truly loved the devs and community for this device and I'm proud to say I contributed to the development here (kind of).

I was thinking just the other day that this "Goodbye Tour" (and the resulting new threads) is pretty lame, and perhaps should be combined into a single sticky thread (where any future defectors should post). Keep them all together in one place, as each individual new thread just screams "HEY, LOOK AT ME... I'M LEAVING!!" It's just like when you're leaving a great party but nobody would notice, so you've got to try to tell as many people as you can, on your way out the door. :silly:
Not ready to go
Nothing out there that I like for everyday use than the Rezound.
Not many phones will be S-0ff or with as many great custom roms
to choose from as the Zound. Can't beat the screen.
I know I'm not leaving for quite a long time and will be starting Rez ROMs here once my new computer comes in as I'm upgrading from desktop to laptop...I know quite a few others will be sticking around for at least 6 more months
