Can anyone point me in the direction on how to remove the brightness slider from 4.1.1 ROMS? Right now I am running Beans 9 if someone would like to make a zip to get rid of it but I would also like to know how to remove it. That way I can remove it on my own and remove it on any of the roms that I flash. Thanks
Bump, as I would also love this option. I use a third party brightness app that disables the built in brightness, and I hate having a useless slider there.
Once I get some free time, I'm going to unpack a rom and take a look at the xml files to see if there's something obvious, but I'm hoping someone might have a quicker answer.
I'm not sure what ROM you are using but I am on Tweaked and it has an option to hit the slider. Its a buttery smooth rom and tons of customization. Almost as much as an AOSP rom.

Hello
First I would like to thank bharat_goku for this awesome ROM, so thank you
Now lets get to the business
1. Sometimes I have an odd problem. Apps that are installed not from the market force closes. On some apps this problem fixes itself after half a day or something like that. Magic, isn't it? I remember reading in some ROM thread that broken APK signatures may cause force close problem. The question is how can i fix it?
2. Is there a way to replace current transparent status bar to default one?
3. Is there a way to remove recent apps from notification box? It really feels sluggish now and lacks some space.
4. Is it possible to get default 2.1 lockscreen running? If so, what would I need to do to get one running? However this is more like for experimentation
5. Is there a way to *lock* apps like Phone and Messages in memory so they could always respond as fast as possible. I remember them being auto-killed on some roms... I currently didn't experience such behavior on this ROM since I didn't get any calls but I would like to be sure
6. I suppose I could manage to find this one easily but since I'm asking already... Where could I find old market app?
7. I'm thinking of making swap file and enable Compcache since GB eats memory pretty fast. I've seen them doing magic on Heroine (Sense 2.1) ROM. I'm gonna try these tweaks when I find some spare time... Has anyone tried something like that on this ROM? Was it worth it?
Well I think thats it for now. I'm not afraid of (adb) shell so if some answers involves using it that would not be a deal breaker

3. you can download and install "Remove recent apps from status bar" under Options from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090186
4. you can try this lockscreen for Wildfire which is similar to default 2.1 lockscreen for Hero, download and install "Wildfire Lockscreen" from the same thread mentioned above.
Cheers!

I found that if you select the slate skin, you get the status bar back and the whole rom feels faster. I also like the blue button highlights.
Thank you for your answers

I have found out that this problem is related to sd-card. It seems to be mounted as read only and some programs force closes when they cant write to that sd-card. I suppose this kind of stuff should be defined somewhere (maybe some ini file). So now the question is how can I make it writable.
P.S. I doubt it's my cards fault since I can access it through recovery USB mount without any problems.
P.P.S. I cant mount sd-card as disk drive through ROM.
P.P.P.S. I am also using LVX 0.6.2 so that may be a problem... I'll try flashing 0.5 when i get home
I guess I'm gonna need to reflash the ROM <looking for encouragement >

1. I think I've fixed it. I reflashed the ROM without wiping everything and now SD card works as it should, no FC's after that..
2. I have changed theme to Slate and then just accidentally changed back to default theme and the status bar is not transparent anymore
3. As stated few posts above the mod from SalsaSense works perfectly.
4. Same as 3.
5. It does seem to work well so I think it may not be needed here. However it would still be interesting to have some information about this.
6. Seems that old market app does not want to work with this ROM.. Oh well..
7. I've found out that compcache is not compiled into LVX kernel (or not enabled) so I could not test it out. About swap I did not test it either since atm my sd-card is too slow to even begin with something like that.
I hope this information will be useful to someone.
However I still have some issues... The phone drains battery in a day or so while doing nothing. Thats odd since with older sense 2.1 roms I could manage to push 3 to 5 days with light phone usage (really light, like 1 call a day, 3 texts and 10 mins browsing and of course alarm clock). However I did not use LVX kernel back then and governor was ondemand where now govenor is smartassv2. So battery life may not be entirely roms fault.
I'm gonna try to wipe battery stats and see how it goes then.
EDIT: Seems that wiping battery stats helped somehow. I don't have any idea how battery stats works, seems strange...

Well the thing is I used Slate theme from the beginning and then after having problems and reflashing ROM without wiping any data etc I changed theme to Default one. Since then the status bar is just like the original one, no transparency.
I have also flashed a mod that removes recently used apps from notification bar so maybe that has something to do with this. Strange.

anyway i've removed the transparent status bar in Rose V4 so it shouldnt be a problem now on...
I've searched and asked this question several times but found no answer that works.
I love 2 particular ROM components
1 - Flashlight from lockscreen.
Holding the home button from a lockscreen will toggle the flashlight, holding it again will turn it off
2 - Relaxing alarm sounds
This includes the smart alarm and the Dawn Chorus, Sea Breeze, Springtime Memories alarm sounds.
How do I add these to a ROM?
I've found OMEGA Rom includes both of these elements but it isnt the fastest ROM around and when I edit voltage settings it becomes quite unstable.
I really liked the FoxHound series roms which had the flashlight ability and was quite fast and stable
Resurrection Remix is quite nice too but has neither of these features which is why I'd like to know how to do this so I can add it myself.
Can someone give me some info on these?
I'm assuming the smart alarm thing is just saving some .ogg files to use and transfer into the correct place to be able to implement them but the flashlight I'm not quite sure - someone said something about flashing a zip file in CWM but that didnt work for me at all..
Seriously? is there no way to do either of these things??
Surely somebody would know how to do this?

For the first question i have also no idea, i know that miui also has that feature
But the second i quite easy. open any_rom.zip.
Go to system>media>audio>alarms> here you can drop your alarm sounds.
you can also go to /system/media/audio on your phone and put any alarms, ringtones or notifications there.
I really miss the simple pull down from jellybean 4.1.2 where I just had to have on pull down and I could easily enable or disable airplane mode, wifi, gps.
Now I have to pull down and hit settings to have those toggles enabled or disabled. I find that one extra step annoying but can't find an option in most AOKP roms to disable pressing settings to get to my toggles. Is there a way to change this?

It must be there in display settings. If not just get the "notification toggle" from play store.
Does what ya need and you can chose which toggles ya need.
LIFE! It's what you make out of it!
Swipe down on status bar with two fingers. You'll go directly to quick settings. Also both CM and AOKP have a setting where you can configure swiping down on the left and right sides to take you directly to notifications or quick settings. For example, swipe down on left side brings up notifications and swipe down on right side automatically brings up quick settings. And I think there's a setting to directly display quick settings if there are no notifications wherever you swipe. CM also still includes the old style power widget at the top of the notification bar. If you want it, you just have to enable it in settings. So you see, there are many ways you can make using the quick settings a *really* quick and straightforward process. I find the quick toggles to be better than the old style toggles because I get to it in one step and everything shows on one screen (by increasing the number of toggles per row). No extra scrolling step like with the horizontal toggles. But some toggles such as screen timeout, screen lock etc aren't present in quick settings, so I use a combination of quick settings for all the usual toggles and the horizontal old toggles for the ones which aren't available.

Thanks. Currently I'm still on my 4.1.2 TWRP backup but am trying to transition to 4.2. A lot of features missing in a lot of custom roms and Gapps. Ie photosphere, poor battery economy due to a host of issues (ie unresolved wakelocks) that kind of doesn't make the switch worth it for me yet.
Photosphere will never be included in AOSP ROMs even for Nexus devices because it's not part of the AOSP camera source code. It requires a proprietary Google version of the camera copied from Nexus devices along with proprietary library files. Reason is it uses street view technology and that's Google's proprietary technology, not open source. The Google camera also includes Picasa album sync, which isn't present in the AOSP camera/gallery code because it is proprietary too.
So if you want photosphere, you'll have to find Gapps that include the proprietary camera and libs or a flashable zip of only those parts and flash them to your phone. The standard Gapps package includes a check to flash these parts to Nexus devices automatically, although you should remember that flashing the closed source GalleryGoogle.apk will remove any customizations made by CM, AOKP etc to the camera.
Also, regarding battery, since codefireX SR5 many people have been reporting great battery life using the recommended settings (interactive gov, SIO scheduler, 149-1024/1200 Mhz). Synergye made some changes to increase battery life, and it's showing in the reports of users. People who are still experiencing average battery life with this ROM most probably have old batteries (like me) or some rogue apps installed. New batteries make a world of difference.

Just wondering what apps I can use to improve the performance of my YPG1 US version without installing a ROM. I have installed a couple roms before but was a bit frustrated by losing certain functions and one of them actually made it slower.
Device is rooted atm but only rooted apps I think are SetCPU, AdFree, and Superuser.
I use it mainly for video and reading so I would love to be able to change the brightness from the dropdown menu. I also have a problem with XBMC crashing when I use the Navi-X program most of the time or going very very slowly when running Navi-X so would love to be able to use that, I think it has to do with ram usage even though I don't have that many background apps running.

Just a heads up, but have you tried REDD? It is literally a modified version of our stock rom, and you don't lose any functions.
Firstly, you can install a custom kernel if you want. It does help with performance (you get a boost in available ram), and will give you more options with setCPU. Now if you don't want to install anything then you can still setup your min frequency to at least 400 mhz, and keep max at 1000mhz on setCPU. This should keep things zippy.
Another thing you can do is change out the launcher. Many people don't realize this, but using a different launcher can vastly increase the performance of pretty much any android device. I recommend using Holo Launcher, since it is light on ram, and gives a pretty decent performance boost. However, many people love ADW Launcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adw.launcher&hl=en, or Launcher Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fede.launcher&hl=en so if you haven't changed out your launcher then try that as well.
Our players have a knack for using too much ram. For some reason, it may say you don't have that many background apps running but you actually do (you just can't see them in the task manager). For me, I found an app called auto memory manager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lim.android.automemman&hl=en. This app is really simple to use. Basically you set a threshold for each category of apps, and once the available ram goes under that threshold it automatically frees up ram. When I was running it on REDD I almost always had 100mb-150mb free. It kept my device very smooth. I still use it on the JB roms. I had mine set like this 40, 70, 100, 120, 140, 160.
Along with auto memory manager, you can also install clean master https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard&hl=en, it's pretty much the ccleaner of android. It cleans up junk files that clutter up your device, and you can also set it to free up ram along with auto memory manager. It works awesome.
You say you want to still be able to hange the brightness from the dropdown? There's an app for that lol. Notification Toggle https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&hl=en, is pretty much like power toggles on other roms. I have to say it doesn't look exactly like that on GB (that's what it looks like on ics+ roms). It looks like this; You can set this up almost anyway you like and add almost any toggles you want
Hope this helps.
I think you should try an app called Greenify that is available on the Play Store. It "hibernates" apps that are not running so those apps won't run in the background and take up valuable ram or drain your precious battery. (You can pick what apps you want to hibernate)
You should try it out

To be honest they are all about the same performance wise. I went with Klin's R3 kernel, because for me Terrasilent was giving me an issue where it would boot into recovery, and wipe all my data.
You do not need to install anything in order to be able to adjust the brightness from the dropdown menu. I only know for sure that this works on the yp-g1( stock rom), and that it does not work on yp-g70. Other models I do not know about.
All you have to do is when you put your finger on the top of the screen as if pulling down the menu, just press and hold until the shade that pops up dissapears, at wich point you can slide your finger left or right to decrease or increase the brightness. Hope this helps.

Wow thanks that worked. It doesn't adjust it through the full range I think but that's nice and easy, I couldn't get the toggle thing working.
Think I am gonna put a kernel in though to try and avoid Dolphin or XBMC from crashing so often.

he onscreen buttons take up a ton of space. Is there anyway to make them smaller and transparent? This black bar on bottom takes up way to much room. I know in the past there had been options to edit them under the display settings but I am not seeing such options on any 5.0.2 ROM. (I have tried vanir and liquid smooth)
This is on a Verizon vs985. I am pretty familar with the build.prop if Editting it is a must.

You can modify the framework files to get what you want. At least thats how one manually does it on ICS -> KK. Its not that hard. There are a bunch of tuts online, just google it. Or you chould change the DPI which would make everything smaller. There is probably an option in the ROM you are using. If not its a build.prop edit.
When I had my nexus 5, I was running ultimate dynamic navbar, udn playstore link, to hide and change size of the nav menu bar on the bottom of screen. I believe xposed and/or root is a requirement so double check and see if this was something you were looking for.
