Any way to do this?

Go to your phone’s main settings menu.
Go to the “Apps” or “Applications” option.
Go to the “All” tab in your list of apps.
Find the app you wish to disable and tap on it.
Press the disable button next to the force stop button.
If the disable button isn’t visible, you have to press “uninstall updates” first. Then go back to step 5.

Is this possible at all? Or already done, maybe? would it be an app that could possibly run and replace this action or does it require a rom modification to do it?
I'd prefer specific apps to always be in my home long-press popup than just the most recent ones (ex: mail, web browser, twitter, facebook etc the ones that i am typically trying to get to )
Any thoughts?
I wouldn't mind having menu long press go to the dialer app so we can have a dedicated dialer button we can use when we have other apps open. Long pressing the menu button brings up the quick search bar which we already have a button for.

long pressing the menu button brings up the keyboard ... not the search...
Long press of menu brings up search on the vibrant, try it. (i read another thread that this isn't the same on other devices)
I assume that given that Vlingo can take over the long press of the search and home replacements can take over the long press of home, an app could be written to take over the long press of home to change its action as well?
I'm not a programer so I wouldn't have a clue of how to write an app that replaces that home/recent apps pop up to allow your own choice of shortcuts
Oh yeah, I guess I was wrong... I have to many devices to keep track of the differences...

I *kind-of* got what I wanted via the app "App Launcher" (link: http://www.appbrain.com/app/net.talondesigns.quicklaunch - $1.99)
It looks identical to the popup that you get with a long press of the home button - you can select the shortcuts you want to be in it, BUT it is a long press of the search key instead. Functionally, it is what I want, but I'd prefer to take over the home button action rather than using the search button, as I had that one assigned to Vlingo.
Most apps i have on my phone you just press the back button and they exit the apps but there are 2 in particular where you cant seem to exit the apps unless you press the home key and then kill the selected app in Task Manager (which usually results in a reboot so i use the Task Manager function in ZD box and that never causes a reboot) what im worried about is if i continue to do this my phone might become a little unstable, task killers are not particularly good to use and even though im only "killing" one app im wondering is there another way of exiting the app without having to go to ZD Box > Task Killer?
What apps are they? Just wondering because some apps have a specific exit button somewhere or another.
Some apps I have require me to hit menu then select exit, or have an exit button somewhere or in the case of Skype which requires users to select 'profile' or be on the main menu, then hit the menu button and select 'sign out'.

Just the 2 apps i can think of are ITV Player and Dublin Bus official app, id use the Dublin Bus a lot more but no matter how many times i press he back button it wont exit so i end up going to ZD Box > Task Manager and killing the app.
I did some searching but finally found something that worked. CSDevCTRL, which I found in the market, can make long pressing the search button open your camera app. Just download, run the app, scroll down to long press search button ctrl and select quick camera. Now if you want this to be persistant after a reboot then scroll down to run CSDevCTRL at startup and click save changes. Now when you long press search, choose CSDevCTRL and use by default. That's it.
You can also do this in CM7 under cm settings it will open camera and then you can take pictures with search button also.

Whenever I install an app, it automatically creates a shortcut on the screen. Why this happening?
How can I stop that

Hi,
Go to Play Store and press menu button. (left down button)
Then go to settings and uncheck the "Put shortcut automatically" (i don't know the real english translation but in Play store settings, it's the fourth option from the top)
Hope it helped!
I am used to holding down the home button on the past 5 years worth of devices to show the past apps.
Any way you could change it on this phone?

Yes. Outside of development, there's a way to accomplish this on the user end.
What you'll need:
- Tasker (paid app - worth every penny)
- Assistant Event for Tasker
- Autoshortcut
- Nova Launcher (you don't need to switch to it/start using it; you only need it installed)
What to do:
- Open Tasker
- Create a new profile
- Select State from the list
- Choose Plugin
- Select Assistant Event for Tasker
- Select Edit, and it should automatically enable
- Press back, then select New Task (you can skip entering a task name)
- Add an action (tap the plus symbol at the bottom of the screen)
- Select Plugin, then Autoshortcut
- Tap Edit, and scroll down to Nova Launcher; select it.
- On the next screen, you should see Recent Apps as an option; select it.
- Hit back several times until you've exited the Tasker app.
- Long press home and select Assistant Event for Tasker as the default.
- Done - Long press home now opens recent apps.

It's just a double tap of the home button to get past apps instead of holding
