Hey guys,
Yep. *NOT* connecting to Kies.
I'm in Australia. Bought my SGS2 from HK (PDA ZSKG2, CSC OZSKG2), running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and is currently rooted using Chainfire's Odin dump on these forums. Prior to rooting, i had the same issue.
I have checked via the program, i have the latest kies program downloaded (2.0.2.11071_128) - and I also have installed the USB.exe file (for the propper Samsung SGS2 drivers off the Samfirmware.com website) I also have 2 mini USB cables, they are both genuine Samsung, so worst case scenario, at least 1 of these cables should work...
Aslo as an FYI: I am using a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS (legit) - have not had issues running other USB2 devices o it...
THE PROBLEM:
When i plug in the cable, the phone immediately tried to connect to Kies (on ym SGS1, i had the option of Kies/media player/mass storage) but can't select anymore; when i connect, a pop-up box shows up "I9100" and asks me what program i want to use - i have ano problems with copy/paste/delete/transferring files using this method, the issue is with Kies.
When i open kies manually and plug in the phone+USB cable (or if Kies starts up automatically when cable is plugged in), it jsut gets stuck on "CONNECTING", but the phone itself never actually connects.
I have tried reinstalling the same usb.eve drivers again, restarting PC, the phone, unplug/replug in the cable and it doesn't seem to work...the funny thing, was my riisted SGS1 phone connected ti kies instantly and never had any issues with it. Can anyone lend me a hand or some advice? At the moment, i just want a simple Uuser firendly interface for restoring a tonne of my saved contats in a contacts file logged backed up form my old phone.
Cheers

Mine requires USB debugging disabled before connecting.

As i said, it works without KIes, but wonr work with it.
If i turn on USB debugging, plug in the USB cable, the error "Reconnect the device on Samsung Kies (PS Studio) mode. Current connection mode is not supported by Kies"
Any other ideas?
I might have missed exactly what you'd done, but did you actually try with USB debugging disabled / off?

It should work ! Do u use a custom rom ?
Double check USB Debugging is OFF.
Then check if you have one of those "multi mount" apps active that let you use /sdcard from phone and PC simultaniously - kill it.
Usb debug on or off makes no difference guys. Im using stock firmware, just rooted kernel...and no multi-use apps...or at least I dont think (what kind exactly?)

Not sure if that matters, but normally you install phone drivers from Kies

I had problems connecting with kies too.
Make sure your s2 screen is turned on and unlocked
during the connection period, somehow that affected.things with me.
also reinstall kies, that may help. I think I also removed the samsung device in the device manager to force windows to reinstall the drivers.

Thanks, i'll give thgat a try when i get home. However, i now have a strong hunch i could have a phone with either faulty software or hardware:
When i plug a USB cable into my work PC to simple recharge the phone (exiting any PC Kies attempt by the phone) the stupid device tells me it cannot recharge due to the phone or batteries TEMPERATURE being too high or too low; yet the phone is not warm at all, and the room temperatures are more than optimal for its operating environmement.
Tried unplugging and plugging back in and get the same error, am going to turn the phone off now and attempt to recharge it. Dodgy HK crap....
RoOSRA
Some quick suggestions:
* Plug the cable into the usb port in the back of the computer, not the front port or usb hub (unless it's an AC powered hub).
* Make sure you use the Samsung micro-usb cable that came with the phone
* Try with another computer, maybe the PC drivers are messed up. Uninstall them as I mentioned above.
* Try to factory reset the phone
* Change your ROM to an official Samsung one
EDIT: Regarding temperature, there are tools in the market that can show you battery temp. Regarding the message you're getting, it would be useful to show a screenshot. If I remember correctly, Power+Home shortcut will take a screenshot.
Not sure how it happened, but my PC doesn't detect my Ace when I plug it into USB. I have tried every possible solution I could find here but no luck: USB debugging ON/OFF, formatted SDCARD, factory reset, etc. I have Kies installed, able to detect other phones (SII, Xperia, etc.) but not this Ace. I have also tried other PCs but no success.
NOTE: I am now on Imaginary V3, and was on BehradGH Cyano-Ace ROM. I have tried restoring to older ROM but didn't fix this problem.
Thanks
Are you using win 7? If so go to start, plug in your ace, go to devices and printers and see if ' samsung cdma' is there. It may have a yellow triangle there. Hit uninstall drivers on right click. Then reboot and on kies "trouble shoot connection" it will install, your drivers and you will be able to mount USB storage from your device (a prompt should appear on your notifications bar)
Please note some (well, most) custom ROMs do not support kies. Don't update through it (kies), it makes a mess of it
Please hit thanks if I helped

Yes, I am on Win 7 but don't see Samsung CDMA or similar devices installed!
I am getting a notification from Windows that "USB Device Not Recognized". I have tried switching to other USB ports, same result.
And yes, I don't use Kies for updating ROMs, just for making sure I had the right drivers installed.
Thanks.
hmmm, could be a driver thing, i had the same problem when my phone was in download mode. You said you tried an older rom, but it didnt work .By this you mean stock rom right? Just trying to clear things up

Actually I was referring to the BehradGH custom ROM. I think the problem might have started when I moved from the stock ROM to the BehradGH ROM few months back, but I was not aware of it until lately.

Leaving this menu unmount your SD card from your PC.
And then the only option available is 'Unmount".

Well, USB tethering does show as an option in the settings but I can't enable it: it says "no USB device connected"! Does this mean that the ROM does not support tethering?
I forgot to mention that the phone is not detected by the PC even when I'm in the download mode. That's why I couldn't use odin to flash stock firmwares. I assume this has nothing to do with a problem in the current ROM, right?
Yeah, BehardGH is ancient but I bought this phone several months ago as a gift to my dad so he is not after changing ROMs. And I must solve all phone problems! That's why I need your help guys...

Well in my rom which is cm7 by fat USB mode appears automatically when I connect my phone to a PC .. no need to tick that option
So I have the OTA ICS update now. I want root again (didn't have it previously on this phone), so I decided I would try one of the "1-click" scripts. My problem now lies in my PC (win 7 64bit) and drivers I think. Downloaded the motorola utility to get all my correct drivers. When I plug up my phone, my pc downloads all the drivers, but it never downloads the Mot ADB interface one. I'm stumped. I've tried it on all 3 machines. I can transfer files and the phone mounts ok OTHER THAN the adb interface.
When I run adb shell it says "error: device not found"
Here's what I have done.
1. Uninstalled all my drivers
2. Re-installed all the drivers
3. Tried every USB port on the computer
4. Made sure USB Debugging was checked
5. Made sure my phone was in Media mode
6. Wiped cache and data
7. Tried it on other machines
8. Re-installed windows on 1 machine.
When I put the phone in AP Fastboot, then and ONLY then will the PC see the phone as an adb interface.
Any thoughts?
I think you need to switch it to a pc mode other people have said.

You are correct. But its not prompting me even to install the adb interface. Thus the reason why I feel as though it is the phone and not the PC's. I run adb on my other phones just well.

tried this and still failed. I've done it now on 5 machines. All have the same issue. None of them ever prompt me to install drivers for adb interface. terminal emulater doesn't do anything on my phone either. Bout to take my phone to verizon.
OK I am running emulator on my phone, and when I enter command "adb shell" adb starts and still says "error: device not found"
gonna throw this phone to the wall. Thanks for all the suggestions and help thus far. If I can't get it fixed by tonight, i'll take it to verizon tomorrow and have them send me a replacement.
EDIT: Plugged in my wife's razr with usb debugging and everything worked correctly. DEFINITELY the phone! Can't believe I have wasted this past 2 days on this!
I am having the SAME EXACT problem running the same version of Windows. I'm guessing you haven't found a work around as of yet, eh? I still have been unable to get Windows to recognize the ADB interface. Whenever I connect my Bionic, it finds/installs it just fine, but not so much with the Razr Maxx.
Have you attempted a factory reset at all? The issue began with me because I rooted the device, used OTA rootkeeper, installed the OTA, but then Rootkeeper was unable to restore root, so I also tried to use the 1-click scripts.

I had the same issue.. You need to download Matts utility 1.7 and then extract the zip into an (empty) folder. Then click the first file in your folder and click on the 64 bit. Let it install then run the utility.. Make sure your device is in USB debugging mode and that you have your storage device set to mtb.. Then click the root android 4.0.4 option and let the program to the rest! I hope this helps it sure helped me.

I had a very similar issue that was stopping me from re-rooting after I pulled the official OTA. At the end of it, my problem seemed to also center on not having the Mot Composite ADB Interface driver install when I connected the device by USB. I was running Moto Drivers ver. 5.7.0 (current) and successfully connected on other RAZRs, just not my current one. Same 'device not found' errors.
Connecting my device as a camera (PTP) fixed the problem (settings -> storage -> press the menu key and choose Camera (PTP). After doing that, windows installed the additional devices: USB Composite Device, DROID RAZR, and Mot Composite ADB Interface and I was back on track. Regardless of what I tried otherwise (including a wipe data) the ADB interface just wouldn't install until I connected as a camera.
My post is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743367&highlight=root+ota&page=2
EDIT: Just re-read the OP. Not just close. Sounds like you're having the SAME problem. Hope this helps.
At first I could not get this script to work. Apparently I had no ADB interface installed. What did the trick for me, was switching off the USB debugging, plugging in my Droid 4 a few times in camera, MTP and mass storage mode. That made my computer install all the necessary drivers.
Having done this, it all worked perfectly. Thank you very much! I am completely new to Android and XDA, and this almost foolproof script is excellent. :good:
So simple..
Had same problems with my new phone as everyone else, PC not recognizing ADB .... tried downloading a couple of different things from other advice as I don't know much about computers this just got confusing. All I had to do was turn off the USB debugging, plug in under the different USB computer connections and ta da!
No Storage Drives Show
Hi everyone.
First time I post on the forum, although I've been using it for quite some time.
This time I'm experiencing an annoying situation with which I spent many hours of my last two days.
Turns out my Windows (7 64-bit) won't display the mass storage drives from my Droid Razr (XT910 Model, Brazilian Carrier OTA).
The funny thing is that all Motorola Drivers are shown on Device Manager and when in AP Fastboot Mode, RSD will recognize the phone as connected and flash normally.
I am really out of ideas here. Did religiously everything written on this forum and many others:
Tried different cables and pcs
ReInstalled ICS OTA
Wiped cache/data
Factory Reset from Android
Tried to connect as Camera, Media and Mass Storage
Tried with USB Debugging both on and off
One thing that may have caused the problem, from what I recall, is I am running without the cid file, as I deleted it to install JellyBean through the steps suggested by "TheRazRGuy" here on xda.
Thing is, as I don't have the cid, I must boot through BPTools on bootmanager everytime the system is turned on. After I downgraded the JellyBean to ICS OTA again, I went on to root the device but forgot about the boot requirement I described.
After the easyroot first reboot, the screen went black as always when normal reboot without cid. Even though easyroot still rebooted 2 more times and displayed the "your phone is rooted" message, I thing something may have gone wrong on this process.
It is worth saying that with JB the mass storage was being shown and before the easyroot process too..
I am really out of clues here, hope someone can help!

Just had to modify an option on BootMenu Manager
So I tried searching google and the forums and found nothing.
So on multiple PC's it will charge my DNA but it will not detect it in device manager, like it's not plugged in at all. Almost like it's not seeing any RX/TX Just VCC and Ground. I've tried 3 different Pc's and probably 10 different USB cables. Multiple roms and it will not even see it in bootloader. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue, it's been going on for months, I can do pretty much everything without USB access to my phone but if I want to RUU I'm going to be SOL.
Any thoughts?

Not quite understanding, it's not a driver issue... The PC it's self will not see the device. Not even in device manager as an unknown device, the phone it's self will not say, "Hello PC I am here, do you have my drivers?" I plug it in, get nothing as if I am using a charging cable with only VCC and ground, without RX/TX. I'm pretty positive that it's a phone issue, not a PC/Driver issue. Even if it was a driver issue I'd be getting the MTP device showing up.

I find that to be very rare but okay best the luck to you.
So connecting my Xperia M4 Aqua to PC results in charging only, im unable to browse files or anything. Worked just fine a week ago.
Just for the record, ive tried different USB slots, different PC's, tried USB cable on a different device and it worked fine. Tried toggling USB debugging on and off, tried MTP and MSC connecting, tried restarting device after every change. I have no locker, but ive tried locking the phone and unlocking it before/after connecting it with USB. My phone is rooted. Charging works fine. USB slot in my phone doesnt look damaged or anything. So in short: after i connect my phone to a PC via USB cable, nothing happens except charging, like if no new device was connected.

Now theres no Companion installed on my PC, and switching my phone to "Install Software" doesnt do anything.
Ok. One more time. Take phone. Open settings - Xperia connectivity - USB connectivity. Turn on "Install software". Connect phone to PC using USB cable. On the phone press install software. This should connect your phone to PC.
At least this was the way to connect phone to PC for me. If this works, then you'll need to do phone software repair with PC Companion. After repair this issue has gone for good.
Good luck

So guys, any ideas?
Your USB slot does not have to look damaged but it can be. I damaged my USB slot when I put knee unfortunately between edge of mobile and usb cable. Charging always worked but when I wanted to transfer files I really had to find some good position for cable. Your situation looks worse. I am lucky boy because I claimed it and tommorow I am getting repaired or new mobile phone. If u did not do anything bad just claim it as me and everything is gonna be ok.
