I know it isn't out yet, no release date announced, and most likely won't make it to our evo. Is there really a point for this? Stop acting like a kid a few days before Christmas. Only difference is, Christmas you typically get what you wanted.
We don't even have jelly bean except for a few roms. They work well, but aren't perfect. It's almost a year after jb and we just got it and bugs aren't worked out yet. Plus, a lot of developers have moved on. Contracts are getting close to up for a lot of early adopters and they, like myself, will likely move on too. We may only have a couple of devs left here by the time klp drops.
Sorry to be a downer, but we haven't been the thriving community we once were and htc seems to have abandoned us.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

So true so true. The evo 3d had a lot of potential and a great Dev community. As far as HTC was concerned, they care more about money than the consumer so its not surprising they dropped the evo 3d to work on another mid range device. Hardly worth the need to upgrade with very few spec upgrades. Evo 4g lte will probably abandoned sometime this year for a quad core 2gb ram device. Most carriers don't have lte set up everywhere where anybody can take advantage of it. It will be a miracle if HTC pushes a jb update to the evo 3d. If it did. You can guarantee that key lime pie will never see evo 3d

Are you asking about a port of an AOSP based ROM or a Sense based release from HTC? If it's the former, there's a slim chance if all the developers haven't moved on to other devices by the time KLP is released, but there is zero chance of an official Sense based version.

Actually even that won't be possible unless we can get our kernels to work with ION memory allocation. ION is a requirement for 4.1.2+, we were able to get 4.1.2 working by using hacks to use old code and 4.2.1 by using legacy code (same hacks, but much harder to implement).

wasn't ION memory allocation introduced in android 4.0? so shouldn't the stock HTC kernel support it? if not, what is the problem with getting it working?

well we got the villec2 kernel source + the evo kernel source. can't we just port a part of the ION memory allocation from the one s to the evo?

You still have to properly calculate the memory allocation. msm8660 actually has to use the frame buffer of an msm8960 device. The panel and board config files need to be changed to use the new frame buffer and memory allocation. The camera drivers also have to be changed to use ION and a common-ish camera driver. Not a simple port.

Nexus devices always get the latest and greatest because they r pure Google android devices. They rolled out JB for the nexus s and it is older (and less spec savvy IMO) than the Evo 3D. Whether or not SAMSUNG chooses to update, GOOGLE will, I'm sure the gnex is slighted for next two OS versions at the least, because it can with ICS and 4.1 and 4.2 were released so quickly that it really can't be seen as 2 MAJOR updates, just my take

Same here. Early next year, my wife's contract is up with Verizon and she'll be switching to Sprint. She's volunteered to take my Evo 3D and I plan on snagging either a Galaxy Nexus or whatever the new hotness is at the time. We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

Android Jelly Bean Rumored for Q3 Release

Just for those of you wondering how long until Jellybean. Hopefully, if they keep releasing new versions, manufacturers will start dropping their skins so they can keep up. (I know that's never going to happen, but wishful thinking!)

The Evo 4G will never and was never planned to receive ICS, and yet there are completely functioning ICS builds available for it, with working camera on top of everything else besides the obvious 4G (and maybe a few other things, I haven't followed OG Evo development since I upgraded to this phone).
Official releases aren't a huge deal unless we need them to fix something. The problem with ICS on our phones have to do with the difference between it and GB, as well as our camera. I do not foresee JB to be a big difference from ICS, kind of like Froyo to GB.
So in the end an official release won't matter as long as JB isn't a huge difference over ICS, and we can use the official ICS release in order to make sure the camera works.
You're going to be able to run JB on this phone, do not worry.

I know the phones hardware is more than capable of handling JB. And I'd agree with everything you said, but our phone has some unique needs that others don't. Like you mentioned, the 3d/camera is one of them and also Wimax. ICS has been around for quite a while and there isn't a single ICS build for our phone that is a nice stable daily driver. Getting some of our phone's features to work without the help of HTC may be a bit tough. The development scene of the Evo 3D isn't huge either, though thankfully we have many great devs.
I came to the Evo 3d from the HTC HD2, now that's a phone that seems to be able to run just about anything. Ridiculously massive development scene. It had ICS running long before many other phones and it isn't even an android phone.

I can agree with that, mostly. What I'm trying to say is that, after a release from HTC, we hopefully won't have to worry too much about JB in the future.
Plus as long as jellybean drops within eighteen months technically we are supposed to get it .

Fat chance in hell we're receiving a Jellybean OTA. The OG Evo got 1 major lifetime upgrade to GB. So we can expect the same for our 3D's as well.
The differences so far from 4.0.4 (ICS) and 4.1 (Jellybean) are Chrome is now the default browser, and a more sophisticated search widget. That's only what I've seen, there are probably 100's more.

Most likely. And I'm sure a few UI changes. They completely revamped androids UI with 4.0 so I'm sure some tweaking is sure to follow.
And a nice slue of performance increases the likes of which 2.2 brought would be nice one can hope.
What would also be nice is if it consumed less battery. All the new graphics drain more than people tend to know
Also, since the VM evo 3d is launching with ics, with jelly bean just around the corner will it receive the update?

It's been confirmed with Sprint. They don't sell candy to users.
But seriously, I remember HTC agreeing with some update alliance a long time ago. They agreed to keep all devices updated for 18 months. considering it's been 12 months and Jellybean is coming out soon, we should get the update but I don't know if HTC will folllow through.
Even if they don't, CM9 by then will hopefully have WiMax and 3D so it's just a matter of CM9 getting updated to CM10.

Pretty sure Sammy is the biggest smart phone manufacturer in the world.
Honestly, the next phone I get, HTC and Sammy are battling for my money. I said after my Epic that I would never buy another Sammy phone, so I skipped the SII in favor Photon because I felt the 3D was useless. Now that I've played with the SIII and the EVO LTE I am fairly equally impressed by both devices.
It's going to come down to support and device build, who releases source the fastest and who updates the devices the best and which one builds the best feeling device.
Assuming there is an S4 and Sammy doesn't blow it, I could very well see my self getting it.

And Samsung thinks it's fun to brick our devices. Google emmc brick bug.

Does Sammy make all of the Nexus phones? I would get that if I were you, and you're interested in getting lots of updates and development. That'll be my next phone if Sprint doesn't wait 6 months after release to sell it.

Source for the Epic 4G Touch was also released shortly before it got its ICS update. Samsung definitely knows how to please the community.

I think he just meant we should have known we weren't getting RC2 since we haven't obtained official support yet.

Samsung does update quick. Ignoring the wider user base of GSM carriers, CDMA carriers such as VZW and Sprint always tend to lag behind updates. Due to CDMA restrictions that can't be open-sourced, Samsung doesn't control the entire software update and adds to the delay. Take a look at devices that were released with Gingerbread and see how many of those have ICS. Chances are they're almost all GSM devices. The HTC Rezound on Verizon came out later than the Epic 4G Touch and has yet to see ICS. The Evo 3D and Design 4G won't see ICS till next month. Besides, the Epic 4G Touch was receiving ICS leaks since early this year.

[Q] I don't get it: Fixed 3D ?

So it seems there is that Chinese Rom with Sense 4.1 and working 3D, this is amazing, however, it is the only one of it's type.
The fact that HTC did not release the Driver Sources made me somehow hate them and it was the reason why many bugy couldnt be fixed, many devs left.
So, this Chinese Rom is removed because it is not allowed according to the rules, but... why exactly?
Could someone please post information on this story, really, this is EXTREMELY important, it could change our 3volife
Is it because it's a Viper fix, why then don't they release the fix?
So, the simple question is:
What's the fuzz about the 3D-fix? Somehow no one knows whats going on!
I'm gonna make it as brief as possible.
We can't release it on XDA or link to it because it is considered kang. The ROM is based off of a Viper3D build and was used without permission. Now unless Team Venom gives us permission to release their ROM with working 3D here on XDA, we can't do it because then that's kanging someone else's work, and that's highly frowned upon here, and leads to heavy infractions

I can not understand how is it possible that only one team is capable to make 3D work. Why can not someone else make it from the basis without their rom?

I am pretty sure coolexe or anryl or mwakious could do it if they have time
Somebody could definitely do it, but it would be a very hard thing to do since HTC doesn't hand out their 3D drivers. That team who got it working guaranteed was working for weeks and weeks on end getting it working, somebody here could do it for sure, but nobody has tried yet, and its probably something that's more trouble than its worth. Even if we looked at what that team did to get it working we can't use any of that, or even copy any of that because then it would still be kanging their work. Its something we either A) need to get permission for or B) take care of ourselves, but have that be 10000x harder. Its not impossible, but it is improbable

This is ridiculous in my opinion.
I'll probably get flamed but the whole purpose of android being open source is so anyone and everyone can contribute and make it a better experience.
I understand the HTC drivers are proprietary, but in my eyes, if you've made something better why not share it with the world...are these 'team' members making money on these fixes, are they coming out with their own proprietary phones...that's the only reason I can see to necessitate keeping these fixes to yourself...yes I applaud any ROM dev for their work (I sure as hell couldn't do what they do) but what's the point in the end? Bragging rights? Come on!

Android is open source, you changed is the exclusive copyright? This is not unreasonable.
If anyone need help, you can email me
The rules centered around this are not android related. It has nothing to do with open source, they're xda's rules. It makes sense why they're there (that way we don't see the same exact ROM under a different name pop up every 20 minutes, etc.). I don't like the rule either but hey, its just something we gotta live with

I think that we could do an exception for 3D in 4.1 sense...

GSM - working like a charm. Using the 2.0 version. Aroma is in Germany but pretty understandable.

Sieht gut aus, heruntergeladen! I'll probably tear the rom apart and see about making it CDMA worthy, though I won't be able to share it once I'm done being it's Kang'ed...

No lags at all. What I experienced was huge battery drain. So, right now, I oam in the process of reverting back to stock ROM. Tired of all these tests. Gonna get SIII tomorrow anyway
So we have fixed 3D camera now? ICS or JB?
Don't seem to see a straight answer. Only that it is using venom tweaks without perms..?
