Can I root my phone using ONLY adb commands from CMD prompt?
I have a long history and something is wrong with my phone where I cannot see the recovery or hboot screen.
I have completed everything to the T and have TWRP installed. I however cannot install SU which is required
in AIOK Perm Root.
Can someone tell me how to do this now?

Bootloader is unlocked and everything is ready I just need adb commands to root this phone somehow.
It should work. But you'll also need to change permissions after pushing the files.

Use that. Download and extract to your C:\ drive. Run as admin. Flash 4EXT. Flash ROM. Happy flashing.

I really appreciate your zeal to help but you failed to read that I am using AIOK already.
I have been trying to root this phone for at least 6 months, yes you read that correctly 6 months.
Something is wrong with my display where I cannot see the HBOOT or Recovery screens.
I cannot simply "go into recovery and run the SU script to root my phone" I cannot see anything on the screen.
I need to be able to do EVERYTHING through adb commands from the command prompt.

Double0EK,
I greatly appreciate your answer and am not asking for a step by step by any means. Could you point me in the right direction for
completing this though? I responded to another poster below and explaining my situation in greater detail.
Thank you
Re: HTC Amaze ( UNBRANDED ) stuck on htc logo
Why don't you just place the SuperUser zip on your sd card, then boot up the phone all the way and then use the recovery control app to select and install the zip.

Sounds simple but I can't figure that one out. I can install SU all day long from main screen but the binaries don't install unless I'm in recovery.

Open 4ext recovery app then select recovery>install from sd card> then choose the .zip u want to install and then it will reboot itself into recovery and flash it.
You can use these same steps to flash your Roms, kernels etc

Phone is now:
S-Off
Unlocked Bootloader
4EXT Recovery installed
The recovery app does not reboot and install the supersu.zip file like you said.
Before I had installed 4EXT this time I could boot into HBOOT and press down volume once then power.
Next screen was green circle then red triangle and exclamation. I pressed power and down or up volume and then VOILA!!! I saw the stock
recovery on my screen but could do nothing with it. I couldnt install supersu.zip or update.zip that I renamed it to. It kept saying signature verification fail.
So now I have 4EXT and am stuck again.
Check your other help posts I just suggested another program for rooting as you can flash zips if you have custom recovery... Which you do have..
Luckily you do not need to have a working screen for it to flash them!
Also the program has a function to root via ADB using its gui... Not your phone's
Also I would suggest using Cwm as you can count the "volume presses"then push power to activate the selection.
My hboot is as follows...
Bootloader
Reboot
Reboot bootloader
Power down
It starts with bootloader selected.. Push volume down 1 time for reboot.. 1more time for reboot bootloader etc etc..
Push power to activate selection
This is how Cwm works too.. I just don't know the selections.. Maybe find some screen shots

Or..... Hold on...

4EXT recovery control will not work without Busybox installed. Busybox will not install without root.
And even after successfully flashing 4EXT recovery the app says that it isnt installed....???
I cannot get into my stock recovery now though so something had to install and when the screen is black in recovery and I tap on
the screen it vibrates like something is there and touch sensitive, 4EXT, TWRP.....

Have zero clue. But when I start the app it keeps saying busybox is required.
I think it is saying this because I am not rooted.

Ok guys I have a Sensation and I thought I'd guinea pig my WiFi Flyer to see if the permroot method from it works, and it does!
So I will copy from this thread!
Step 3. TO permanently root your Sensation - THIS WILL NOT AFFECT WIFI
1. Copy su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip to your sdcard root DOWNLOAD HERE:
2. Start clockworkmod recovery (instructions below)
3. BACKUP YOUR ROM USING CWM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ROOT!
4. Press Volume Down, Select "Backup & Restore" then select "Backup"
3. Select "install zip from sdcard" after backing up
4. Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
5. Then select "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip"
6. Then select "Yes - install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" to confirm
7. Then go back
8. Then reboot.
9. You're rooted!
EDIT: If you get stuck and the device will not reboot hold Power/Hold+Volume Down for a while and the device will restart!
After this the device rebooted, and I was able to obtain SU in terminal and also use root explorer to mount R/W!
So big ups to ikhzter for the guide!
Hope this helps you guys out!
Also I will say I used this only on a WiFi Only US Flyer and cannot guarantee this will work on your Flyer/View! Again this is for S-Off devices only!
EDIT: People have reported this working on the View 4G and Flyer GSM
Also if you did not get the ClockworkMOD installed after AlphaRev check here for directions on how to obtain CWM!
Worked thanks
Great!
Great glad to hear, if anyone tries this on a View or GSM Flyer (if you can) could you report back so I can update the OP
It worked on my View.

You can install CWM when you make your device S-OFF, at the last step you are asked if you want to download and install it.
Worked nice on my Flyer.

Anyway to fix?
Try wiping caches.
I would try a wipe maybe the font won't take or something got screwed up kernel wise which would cause it to hang...
now it wont turn on at all . Further inspecton into this app and i have came to the conclusion it was this app some user have had their phone bricked from this app .

As these guys said try wiping caches and then if that doesn't work going to have to try just reflashing the ROM without the font change.

Just flash another recovery with adb..
Phone isn't messed up lol. Use the same recovery you were using just put a copy of it where adb is.
Then plug phone in
start adb
and tell it to
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img should work....
From the sounds of things I don't know how.... It seems like whatever you did wiped out your recovery.... So all you need to do is flash a new one... Also you could try to relock your phone...
Then run a Ruu 2.17 exe that would fix you up lol.....
If your CDMA and on hboot 1.5... If you can't get another recovery to flash over... Just relock your phone and download the RUU exe and run it from hboot will fix you up...
I did the exact same thing with that app and rom, just went into recovery from bootloader and wiped cache and delvic cache and reflashed the rom, you might have to fastboot into recovery from the bootloader though because of hboot 1.5
If you can't even boot it into Bootloader, run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU).

I would keep a orignal copy of the working rom....
Then if something goes wrong try to go to recovery and wipe everything and see if ADB will find your phone it should..... Then just flash the working rom via fastboot boot recovery.img
As long as ADB finds your phone and recovery works you have it made... It's when adb can't find your device and your recovery isn't working that you may need to relock your phone ....
Then run that RUU make sure to relock it tho before you run it......

Just seems like a lot of the basic how to root with hboot 1.5 / recovery / Rom flashing posts need updated with current links & some more details to help prevent all the same questions being repeated. Some of those stickied posts havent been updated in 3 or months & some of the original posters have moved on to other phones already.
I can almost just repost one of the 2 same hboot 1.5 posts over & over...

I want root back but have been unable to since moving to ICS with the android police RUU. I have tried many methods but have been recommended to just use a rooted ICS ROM. I would like a complete stock ROM except I would like it rooted. I need this because I would like one rooted stock nandroid backup on my phone and then some other mods later. Thanks to anyone who can help with this or maybe tell me how to get root after this OTA. (I have tried flashing multiple things)
I may be wrong but I thought the root method was the same for ics as it was for gb except you have to flash SuperSU instead of the regular SU since it doesn't work on ICS? What all have you tried?

The Amon-Ra method no longer works. Some people said that flashing superuser.zip would work or flashing su.zip and su binary but nothing has worked. I flashed so much that my phone started doing weird stuff so I just factory reset again hoping that it can be back to normal. I still have no root though and if it helps, I am S-OFF with Amon Ra but can go to TWRP easily

Some developers are now putting SuperSU in their roms instead of superuser, so they're both floating around. I know mine, Newt's One XxX (sense 4.0) uses SuperSU.

For those who need help aswell:
Step 1: Flash Amon Ra recovery onto your phone
Step 2: add this file to the ROOT of your external SD Card: http://www.sendspace.com/file/biqzgw
Step 3: Turn off your phone, pull battery, put back in battery, BUT DO NOT TURN BACK ON and look at step 5
Step 5: Hold down the volume down button + power button at same time and wait until the bootloader pops up.
Step 6. Use the volume down button to go to recovery (it should be highlighted blue if selected) and hit the power button. You should now be in Amon ra recovery
Step 7: Use the Volume buttons to move the selector up or down and go down to "Flash zip menu" and hit the power button to select it.
Step 8: Next go down and select "Choose zip from sdcard" and select it by hitting the power buttton again/
Step 9: Now you should find the file for the root here (normally at the very bottom, just remember what you named it) and scroll to it and hit power. It will ask to confirm by hitting the power button again so do so.
Step 10: It will now install, however, If it fails just try to install again until it says it was successful. (It took me 2 tries)
Step 11: Select the return option to return to the main Amon Ra page and select "Reboot system now"
Step 12: While your phone is booting up, put the back cover on if you have not yet done so as it is needed for the next part.
Step 13: Go to the Google Play store, and download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&hl=en
Step 14: Open the installer (and superuser might request permission, if it does, click ALLOW) and at the bottom it should say something like "Install". Click this!
Step 15: Once it says it is successful with the installation, go back to the Play store and find the superuser app.
Step 16: Update Superuser and then open it. (Allow superuser permissions again if asked) and scroll the the "info" page which is to the left of the main apps page
Step 17: under su bunary vx.x.x hit the "Tap to check for updates" option.
Step 18: Hit update
Step 19: YOU ARE ROOTED
Step 20: You may uninstall the busybox installer and install any root applications for your leisure!
I just used Hasoon's All-in-One Tool and it couldn't have been simpler.

Can someone point me to ways to flash SpeedROM without going into CWM?
I have tried the Rom Manager way from the app and it did not install.
ADB methods?
I cannot see my recovery and have tried to count the number of button clicks to get to the flash rom screen and it isn't working right.
I did root this phone without a display and by counting the clicks from youtube videos.
My end goal is flashing SpeedROM
Unlocked bootloader
S-Off
Rooted
I would stay away from roms that use Aroma.

Can you explain?
Because with aroma installer you can't just flash the .zip and go. When u flash the .zip it opens up a program that allows you to make certain selections of what you want installed with the Rom. Since you can't see the recovery, you can't go through the installer to actually finish flashing.

Exactly what AJ said.
I'm not necessarily new to rooting I've been doing it for a year or so on my old phone. But after upgrading I decided not to root for a while. Now I think I'm ready to root and get a custom rom on. I'm not used to the whole unlocking bootloader and then a different way of rooting from my old phone. Any sort of guide with links would be greatly appreciated!

Get some moonshine.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 4
just thought i'd add something
you need s-off because verizon or htc stopped allowing the dna to unlock its bootloader from their htcdev site
once s-off you can flash any rom, kernel or recovery
you do not need to unlock your bootloader
the link i found was dead so here is cwm touch recovery that i use http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=17561816589933340240
I think every rom available is already rooted so thats taken care of
i just read some of the guides that are up and they are outdated, so ask anythting you need here and ill help
OK sorry about that I meant s-off. So I do moonshine flash cwm and then do I have to install super user?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
nope all the roms are pre rooted with SU or superSU
but in case im wrong and you find a rom without root you can flash SU or superSU from recovery
hit "thanks" plx
simplified steps are:
1. s-off
2. flash recovery through adb
3. put the rom or rom and kernel you want on the phone and flash it in the recovery
thats it. its a bit simpler than most phones i think, especially samsungs as i just found out.
Step 1. S-off via Moonshine.
Step 2. Flash a recovery. I think the absolute easiest way is using this toolkit. This toolkit couldn't get any easier to use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219175
Step 3. Flash whatever ROM you choose. I personally love ViperDNA.
Does moonshining wipe your data?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Nope... but sometimes the moonshine process will have problems that are typically resolved by doing a factory wipe, in order to sucessfully do the process.
OK now I'm coming from a Samsung device so it was a lot harder than this. My question is if I have to wipe data before flashing a rom or a recovery? I would also like to know what the adb is.

once you have the recovery installed you can choose "factory reset/wipe data" from the cwm menu along with wipe cache, also dalvik cache in the advanced menu in cwm, i do this before i flash any rom
ADB is how you flash a recovery and some kernels
but you need this driver installed http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/?section=Requirement
you also need that driver installed for moonshine to work but after you install it you need to remove the htc sync manager part of it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
here is a small adb and fastboot setup
once installed you can put the cwm recovery in the same folder as adb open a cmd window and from the directory that has adb and the cwm you type
"adb reboot bootloader" no quotes
then
"fastboot flash boot clockwork-touch,img"
now you have recovery
I realize these instructions assume some levels of knowledge so if you need more details ask
I have done all you said and now have a rooted dna! the only problem is every time I select reboot from the cwm it just reboots to the recovery and not the actual phone? Any Idea of whats going on here?
ah it sounds like you wiped your rom before you transferred a new one to your phone
did you do a backup of your stock rom?
this recovery isnt perfect i dont think you can mount the sd card in it to transfer files
if you have no backup and no rom package on your phone and you wiped your stock installed rom then ive actually never come into this situation
im sure it can be resolved easily, let me test some stuff on my phone ill get back to you in a bit.
in the meantime does anyone else have any suggestion for this?
maybe team win recovery can mount sd?

I did not make a backup and I don't have any roms on the phone. I'm not exactly sure of how all this happened and I would really like to get everything worked out.
ok you can install the TWRP recovery and sideload the rom
you can google the info about how to do it, i dont know much about sideload
here is the TWRP recovery, flash it the same way as the other
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/dlx/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-dlx.img
info about sideloading http://teamw.in/ADBSideload
have you decided on a rom yet? id recommend a sense5 like digital dream or BAMF by joelz, thats what ive ran for a while now

It seems as if I can sideload from cwm as well. And how could I install the twrp recovery if I cant boot into the desktop
I would like to either install a sense 5 rom like you suggested or cyanogen mod. Im not so sure how to flash the twrp recovery if im only in the cwm recovery.
you can hold power and vol down, once it reboots after about 10 sec you let go of power and keep holding vol down till you see the bootloader screen, you can flash the recovery using adb like you did to get cwm on
ok never mind I figured out how to get the twrp flashed. now I will try to sideload
I would like to skype but I didnt build my pc with a camcorder. I can still do sound though, tell me if your okay with that. Ok now when I try to sideload it tells me that it cant find the device? not sure what that is.
i was just going to skype for chatting with text so its not like post and wait and refresh, takes forever
in the recovery there is a setting you activate to sideload you are using that right?
