I'm not sure if this is the right thread. I keep seeing "I9100", but I'm considering jumping to the Galaxy S2, and its model number is SCH-R760.
Is it the same phone, or different? If it's different, is it so different that none of the custom ROMs and such will work for it, or will some work?

Totally Different Hardware, so, no.

I know there are all kinds of things people who are capable of doing things with a custom ROM now, but at the end of the day for maximum flexibility can a Rooted i777 ever equal a Stock or even a Rooted i9100 ?
Being that the i9100 is the original and the i777 is the variant is the reason I ask. BTW - I am aware of the subtle hardware differences ..radio,nfc etc.

Maybe do some research and figure out for yourself?
After all, we can run I9100 ROMs with very few modifications.
Not sure of the point of this, this is like saying is a rooted inspire as good as a stock or rooted desire hd. They are essentially the same phone with minor differences.
I have been searching around, but the main reason I ask boils down to whether with the custom roms you are able to completely free yourself from all of the garbage AT&T has done to the phone. As opposed to a i9100 that was never intended for just one carrier.
Hello, i live in Europe but i like Android phones with only capacitive button so i look around ebay US and there are so many different model that it's hard to understand... How can i make sure that a model is compatible with all roms offered in dev section?
None of the i9100 series has only capacitive buttons so none of the roms here would work.
Dont know which is your carrier, but considering most international uses GSM, the T989 and i777 may possibly work on your carrier. Just check out the sections for those phones on xda to see what roms are offered.
If none of all the homebuttonless i9100 can take custom roms, i might reconsider... Do they have ICS at least?

Probably, as my message before, just check those sections on xda.
I recently brought the Galaxy S2 from Straight Talk. And, I thought that it was on ICS already. But, its still running GB. I've been flashing, and testing roms on the sly for a while for my previous phones. HTC Droid Eris, HTC Evo 4G Design, Motorola Defy. And, I know there are different models of certain phones. I hadn't realized until I purchased the phone, and looked at the model number that it was different from the mainstream S2 models. I figured that it wouldn't be a factor since in my mind. Just about all S2 no matter the model number are the same. I was wrong.
In my search for anything about this model. I have came to many consumers who brought this phone that was looking for custom roms. That there aren't any custom roms for it, or CWM Recovery. And, we're stuck with this great phone, and crap stock. I know myself, and many people who own this phone either is just sticking with stock, or on the hunt.
So as the topic of this forum thread indicates. Is any devs going to port over CWM or some Roms for this model? If there is can anyone steer me to it.
Well, the thing is that a friend of mine is gona buy one of these devices, im a i9100 user, i love my phone but i see this SII+ does not give very much improvement on the SII classic, the thing is that i dont see dev forums on this model, will the software from i9100 work on it as well or he has to wait for development to kick in?

No, the I9100 is a different device as it has different hardware so the roms for the I9100 will very likely be completely incompatible unless modified.
I assure you there will be a forum added when/if needed.
My Galaxy tab 2 10.1/SGH-I497 from AT&T seems to have no support for anything other than rooting. Am I missing something? I'm under the impression that only roms specifically designated for the I497 should used but it's hard to believe that there's no interest in porting over a couple of the more popular roms. Is my assumption correct, or will a rom for a non-AT&T version work and I just didn't get the memo?

I'm not sure.. but if you can find a forum for the tab 2 10.1..then ask around.. I would guess that the roms would flash fine, but you will need to find out you're APN's so you will have data after flashing a rom for another carrier..
