[Q] Galaxy SII i9105 also known as Galaxy SII+ - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, the thing is that a friend of mine is gona buy one of these devices, im a i9100 user, i love my phone but i see this SII+ does not give very much improvement on the SII classic, the thing is that i dont see dev forums on this model, will the software from i9100 work on it as well or he has to wait for development to kick in?

No, the I9100 is a different device as it has different hardware so the roms for the I9100 will very likely be completely incompatible unless modified.
I assure you there will be a forum added when/if needed.

Dev support for Skyrocket?

Hey guys,
I'm new to the Android community. Im debating between OGS2 vs Skyrocket. I've been reading about how the OGS2 will have more 'developer support' than the Skyrocket. What exactly does that mean? Ive had jailbroken iphones so I know a bit bout phone modding. From what I understand, the Skyrocket has been rooted and will be getting ICS. So would it be able to use all the same hacks as the OGS2? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. Lol Im assuming 'accute' means 'the same' right? I guess I'm just worried if I go with the Skyrocket it wouldn't have as many themes, mods, updates, etc...

Acute being defined as small, It may or may not have the same sized community but I am going with small. With the difference in basically everything on the phone, nothing from the ogs2 will be easily ported over the skyrocket. You best bet is to get the TMob GS2 devs to make a port as that phone is far more similar to the sky rocket than the ogs2.

Yes as meaning Small, the dev support with be Minute in comparison. so if your a flashaholic u may want to get the OGSGS2
Smaller. The issue is it's different hardware than that of the International SGSGII, Sprint and AT&T SGSII.
The i777 can have ported roms due to similar hardware - much like the Galaxy S line (Galaxy S, Captivate and so on).
It's one reason I chose the SGSII.

I rooted my skyrocket and the cwm for the tmobile version is suppose to work
I also think dev support for the skyrocket will be less than the OGSGS2. I have the OGSGS2 and was a little afraid that our very talented devs would jump ship to the Skyrocket. That's why I was ecstatic to see Entropy512's latest release....Hellraiser for OGSGS2 (see dev section for thread). This opens up the very established and large i9100 dev community to our i777.
It boils down to this - i9100 has a VERY large international community behind it. The i777 is very similar to i9100 and now with Hellraiser we can even flash their ROM's. Skyrocket has a different chipset that isn't as well supported....YET. (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this).
Aah ok I see now. The difference in hardware is the reason why one has more dev support. Thanks for the explanation fellas. Unfortunately that makes my decision tougher since I was leaning towards Skyrocket but now I don't know. I don't wanna miss out on hacks and whatnot.
It doesn't make much sense that it's tacked onto the i777 forum. It'd be like putting the Infuse forum into the Captivate section.

I agree... While the two share similar names, that truly seems to be the extent of the similarities...
Can the Powers that Be consider creating a separate Forum just for the Skyrocket so as to eliminate possible confusion, especially from noobs?
I can see a whole bunch of bricked phones from people trying to flash a custom ASGSII ROM onto a Skyrocket just because they didn't know any better, and they were located in the same subforum.
We all know how much people tend to READ warnings... it's always AFTER something is F'ed up. LOL...

Worse than Infuse in the Cappy section... I wish there were a "report forum for moving" thread. At least Heimdall worked on the Infuse!
I'm so afraid of the flood of "Y HEIMDALL NO WORK?" threads that are going to come with the Skyrocket in our forums.

I don't mind READING info on the Ltd gs2. BUT I sure hope that any mods, roms, development WILL NOT be included into the dev section otherwise WE WILL be seeing people that are newer coming in here with their lte SGS2 and flashing i777 roms and vice versa newbs with i777 flashing i727 lte phone roms, mods, etc. and causing all kinds of issues. I hope they get their own sub forum soon before any major development takes place for it.

People are posting here because it's been the topic of quite a bit of discussion here. But if you want us to have our own forum, feel free to vote to get us one. I for one thing the Skyrocket hate is getting old quickly. It's certainly much better "out of the box" than the OG. (I certainly don't miss the button lag and lower network speeds). It will get support soon enough, and for now you can always root it and use the stock kernel.
I don't miss the middle button lag but I do miss the middle button!

ICS On Samsung Galaxy S2?

There are a fair few good deals on the S2 now that the Nexus is out with Android ICS, but how good is the ICS port over to the S2? Any bugs or flaws?
I am contemplating getting this phone for my girlfriend who isn't very tech savvy hence ICS would need to work flawlessly on the device .
Ics is not ready yet for this device there only at the alpha stage try again in 4months for a stable one or use the ics theme from the market

Samsung has said "official" ICS firmware for SGS2 will be released "some time in Q1 2012". So far as other roms go, you should start seeing ICS ports over the next few weeks.
So far as functionality goes, I'd be surprised if these don't go thru the normal "teething problems" roms & kernels tend to go thru, and given your girlfriend isn't "tech savvy" and the device would need to work "flawlessly", I'd recommend you wait until Samsung releases official firmware rather than use a custom ICS port.
Unless you want to spend a lot of time playing tech support ?

If it's a phone for your non-tech girl I would not worry about Gingerbread or ICS, I would worry about Touchwiz, Sense or whatever skin is out there and select your phone accordingly.
Getting into buggy beta ICS or non compatible apps or widgets that act weird is the killer, it just has to work and look nice. Gingerbread is good for that.

Samsung is working on it, thus there have been a couple leaks. They are still marketing the galaxy s2 so the benefit to a quick update being available would be that they can continue to sell their flagship phone.

i am resurecting this thread as i literally just ordered the S2 for my wife(i have the S3 for me), so im wondering if the phones are actually coming now with the ICS already preinstalled, or will i have to connect it to kies to do it once we get it for the first time?
thanks

No one will be able to answer this with any certainty, as it depends on what lot the phone was manufactured in and gotten ready for sale. If it came to the retailer with GB preinstalled, it will get sold with GB installed. If it came with ICS preinstalled, it will get sold with ICS installed.
It's not like retailers open up boxes they already have and upgrade the handset to ICS.
Are there any phones being sold at the moment with anything less than ics?

[Q] Will ROM development for the S2 die once S3 is out?

SO right now we're all enjoying the numerous amount of ROMS on the S2. Once the S3 comes out won't all the attention of ROM developers be focused towards it?
think so jus like the sgs1 ,i got no updates jus few devs who r modyfying the same version....
There are only a few rom development going here.
Most of them are cooked, though they are nice I would love to see difference Between them not only in look.
Also cm9/aokp custom roms will be there for years as they are matured for sgs2, but Samsung roms? I think it would be limited

I hope you were missing a /s at the end of that comment. SGS2 wont die, sure dev activity may not be as high as a new device but with the ever growing collection of MIUI, CM9, AOKP and Stock based builds around it's far from dead. If anything, this is where its maturity actually works in its favour. The ROMs that are simply a theme, performance script tweaks and a kernel will begin to fade and dedicated developers/cookers will/are becoming more apparent. It happens with every device and the SGS2 is no exception. I also fully expect it to get the next version of Android as it has more than enough raw power to keep it going for years to come, Samsung wouldn't have a reasonably justified reason to cut off its support like they may have with the SGS.
Will keep this phone till next nexus or s4 as I just bought s2 this January

[Q] Jellybean on Galaxy S2

I was wondering if our beloved Galaxy S2 will receive Android 4.1 Jellybean officially? I'm pretty sure it will be available through Cyanogenmod or whoever, but will it also be a Kies update, and if so, is it gonna take all the carriers ages to implement it? Personally I'm always on one of the neweste CM Nightly builds and I've no complaints, it just works, which is kindof what I want the phone to do. I saw a youtube video of ICS vs Jellybean in terms of laggines, "Project Butter" aims to make the whole Android experience smoother and faster. What I'd like to know is if our now aging Exynos SOC supports all the things their putting into the OS, for example their doing Vsync and tripple buffering. All I know about those is that I enable them in games, no real idea what they actually do. Is it as simple as a software upgrade or must the hardware first support is?
Ask Samsung.
Yes it might come next year! But frankly I think 4.04 will be last.
No, no 4.0.4 neither

Can't we get Jellybean for our Galaxy S2 this year?

I don't see a point in Vsync. I've yet to see a game uncorrectly display an image.
Since triple-buffering is new, I guess our phone has double. I would like triple, and have it as smooth and as fast as the iPhone, but I don't want to lower my battery life on it. Plus I'd expect overheating since it takes two pieces of hardware to process am image.

I wouldn't say this thread is entirely superfluous; here the discussion is focused solely on whether or not the Galaxy S2 will get JB, while the other thread also includes comments on the features of it.
If you came looking to find out if/when we were getting it, where do you think you would find the answer more quickly?

Tab S3 out Yet not even a single Port yet!

Samsung announced the Tab s3 yesterday, but we still dont have even a single ROM Port from the tab s2 let alone the tab s3. There are many reasons to not jump ship to the tab s2 or s3 like poorer screen resolution compared to our original Tab S.
Please devs,do us a favor and make some ROM ports. Thanks

Personally I don't see why anyone would want a port when we have lineage os 14.1. No brainer if you ask me.
I'd use Lineage OS myself if somebody figured out how to make Netflix steams play at FullHD or HD resolution on hardware and software that they don't want to support.
As for the Tab S3, my first thought is that finally a flagship android tablet gets the specs it deserves. I can see myself buying one, perhaps around the holidays when the prices should drop. It's great to see someone still building premium Android tablets.

Why use bloated TouchWiz ROM when you can get a near stock Android anyway?
Beside there's no guarantee that every feature on Tab S2 will be successfully ported on Tab S.
