I'm on tron ATM and want to try a few sense Roms to test the cameras. Do I need to do anything special prior to flashing? I'm son and am familiar with flashing the boot IMG and all that fun stuff. Thanks for all the help you've all given, I really appreciate it
There is nothing special you need to do, just factory wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and flash sense. I don't think you need to manually flash the boot.img although it wouldn't really hurt if you did.

There's a tool called CleanWipe you can use. I don't think it matters that you are on aosp but I did pose the question in the thread just in case. I'm thinking of trying an aosp ROM myself so I'd like to be certain as well.

I just went straight to aosp from sense to begin with. Just wipe the usuals and flash away

[Q] "Clean Cache" & "Full Wipe" with xRecovery prior to flashing new rom?
Is it true that the best way to keep your phone in optimal state, is to clean the cache and do a full wipe with xRecovery every time before you flash your X10 with any (new) rom?
A friend told me that if you don't clean cache and do a full wipe before you flash to a new rom, the cache content of the rom you're on cannot be removed after flashing to a new rom because the new rom has no re-collection of the contents of the cache from the previous rom you were on.
That's bs... Xrecovery cleans the cache and wipes for you, watch what it says while you're flashing and you will see.
I always recommend doing it anyway just in case, full wipe, then wiping cache partition and finally dalvik cache.

All I'm saying is if you forget it's not a huge deal, and what he is saying isn't true...
I do it anyway just because when I had a htc hero devs used to recommend you did, so force of habit, yet I know for a fact that what he said isn't true. It could perhaps miss some data which is why you should still wipe, but that data would definitely not be stuck in limbo forever..

I did it on beta 4 and it actually made my performance wayyy worse.. so much so that I had to go back to an earlier backup I had made. MY linpack dropped from 35 to about 6 and the battery started getting super hot, and was dropping insanely fast.
I wouldnt recommend it during usage of a rom. What you can do is get a cache cleaning app and use that regularly! I use cache cleaner ng

Does anyone know which is the best wipe/superwipe/format utility for the Evo3D?
That's a good question. I just always do it manually. I think the only benefit to those is that they can wipe boot too, but I think the ROM already does that prior to installation.

Indeed. There really is no need for a superwipe anymore.
i would probably just to be safe still use superwipe especially if its a good one

i previously owned the mt4g and have flashed roms almost everyday, with never having a problem. i recently purchased an amaze and have problems flashing aosp beastmod 1.3.1. every review that i read says fast no prblerms etc... when i flash it i get very laggy performance. i do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced wipe dalvic, then install zip from sdcard. is that a full wipe? i did that with the myt4g and never had issues. please help. im on clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.6. any help would be appreciated.

Full wipe would be what you're doing.
Factory data reset/cache/dalvik
After you flash the ROM let the phone sit for 5 minutes and before doing anything else...reboot the phone.
Let it settle again. Report back with results.

I'm not using any ROMs yet. My Amaze is still sitting in its box.
I'm just going off my experience with flashing ROMs on the MT4G.
New one every few days. Just some general tips and tricks I learned from flashing ROMs.
It may or may not help with your situation. I know often it did for me.
If it's a technical issue perhaps posting in the BeastMOD thread would better assist you.

Yea, always let a new flash sit for 5-10 minutes. When you change framework, everything needs time to 'settle'.
You also might want to try the Revolution HD Super Wipe for the Amaze, you can find the link in Mikes ROM post. It's simple and I've used it bouncing between the two, I prefer BeastMod and have had no problems, it's much faster than stock and has been very stable. Like the previous post said, it needs some time to settle in and I usually throw in a reboot or 2 and you're good to go.

Hello! i am in the process of finding a rom that i like (unrelated) and have found one that seems pretty good (ShiftS3ns3) but a lot of the comments state that the rom works really well with the leankernel, but the only problem is that i am not sure how to go about combining the kernel and the rom :/ would i flash the kernel first then the rom? or would i do rom first and then kernel? and when i flash these, would i clear cache, clear dalvik cache, clear data, format system for both? i usually do that for rom flashes, sorry if these are dumb questions thanks!

thanks! ive actually used that page multiple times already (just recently rooted my phone for the first time 3 days ago so fairly new to the scene, although experienced with linux so i have a basic understanding of what is going on lol) the only thing though is that i am confused about whether there is any order i should do it in? by that i mean would i do something like
clear dalvik cache, sys cache, data, format system
flash rom

flash kernel? or would it be something different?

You at most need to wipe your caches, but nothing else. If you format data or system you'll need to reflash both. So flash your rom, them flash your kernel. You shouldn't have any problems. Your phone can't build the cache unless it's rebooted after a flash, so you shouldn't have to wipe anything.

Hi. I am using NeatROM lite 4.8. I downloaded the 23 toggles zip file (XWLSW_Stock_23Toggles_BS.zip). How do I install it? My first thought was to just install the zip from the external sd card in Recovery like I did with the ROM, but I thought I'd better ask first, in case that's wrong or I miss a step. Sorry for seeming stupid, but like most beginners, I am afraid of a big screw-up (for beginners, every screw-up seems to be a near-fatal :crying and so need to be very literal and follow precise steps. Later on, I hope I can make the intuitive leaps and guesses like more experienced folks.
I should also ask how to remove or go back to normal NeatROM lite if something goes horribly wrong.

-for install it u have to go in recovery mode and than flash it like a rom (install zip or something similar)
-for return stock you have 2 way:
1) find a .zip that restore the stock theme
2) re-flash rom without wipe

thanks, I'll do this. question about reverting to the stock theme: why would one NOT wipe the cache before reflashing the ROM? Or should one wipe it after the re-install? I wiped the cache and dalvik cache after I originally put on NeatROM.
He means no wipe as in factory reset. All your data is lost if you do this so to not wipe is better for you. To wipe cache and dalv cache you wont loose data. I think one needs to read more then one would be better with one's android device.

Thank you for the clarification because wipe could mean cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe or factory reset. I would only do a factory reset as a last resort.
The toggles are installed now and I really like having them and being able to re-order them. It really amazes me that with all the useful and practical mods people here have done that more are not natively included from Android or the phone manufacturers. It's not like they lack talent or imagination ... is it ?
There are sooo many talented people on xda I wonder why Sam don't offer people jobs to do it for them. If you think that mod is good keep looking there is some amazing mods on here. Most do it for fun!! Sam devs should look at xda and hold there head in shame. :thumbup:
