[Q] S3 bricked for good? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I'm having a huge problem with my SGS3 and hope that you'll be able to help me with it.
A week ago I wanted to install the latest version of CM10.1, I was running CM10 before. Everything went fine until my phone all of a sudden shut down. My best guess is that the battery died, even though I had it connected to the charger. After that I wasn't able to boot the phone. I tried reinstalling the ROM via CWM, did a factory reset and wiped dalvik/cache, but that didn't help either. After lots of fiddling around I was finally able to get the latest stable version of CM9 running, but I do not receive a carrier signal.
- phone isn't recognized by either Odin or Windows itself (another Galaxy S3 I tried worked just fine), although CM9 clearly says it's connected to my PC (connected as media device/android debugging enabled)
- the only ROM I have been able to successfully install & boot so far was the latest stable version of CM9. I tried both CM10 and CM10.1, but after the installation they were stuck on the GT-i9300 splashscreen.
- CM9 installation seems unable to detect my SIM card. I'm not getting any carrier signal and it won't even show the phone's IMEI. SIM works fine in other mobile phones.
- my stock backup died with my external HDD a month ago
I really hope that somebody can help me, I tried everything I could think of already. Thanks in advance!

I know it was dumb not to backup the CM10 installation at least, but I completely forgot about it.

As I stated in my OP I am unable to get ODIN to work with this phone, whereas another GT-i9300 works just fine. So it's not the cord/drivers/my PC.

it has to be. there's absolutely nothing else you can do

Welp. I can't get the USB connection to work, I have no idea why. The other galaxy gets detected, mine isn't. Isn't there any way to fix it without using Odin? Or am I stuck with a better MP3 player now?

Try mobile odin?

Have you tried installing a Samsung based ROM via CWM like Omega, Revolution HD or Alliance? Revolution HD has a good SuperWipe tool you can use to completely reset everything(all your data will be lost). I use it often even with other ROM.

Just tried it. I wanted to install the latest Samsung stock ROM. After it installed and the device rebooted it got stuck on the splashscreen again. Since the installation removed CWM I'm not even able to install CM9 again. Well, it's bricked for good. Time to send it to the service center.

Bricked GT i9100

Hey I have a i9100 that I had running on cm9 nightly. I updated my phone to the latest one at the time which was jul 22 and was 101.56 megs I believe. I went into cwm to install the firmware, wiped user data then installed the update. Install went fine, no errors in cwm. Although when I did wipe data I did not wipe cache with it.( I just wiped data accidentally because it was a force of habit since I flash alot)
Now the phone is in a boot loop. It won't go into recovery mode but will do download mode. Although when it is in download mode windows is saying that the device is malfunctioning. The setup I'm using is the same I've used to flash the phone atleast 30 times via oden so it should be working in theory.
Any ideas guys, I'm at the end of my rope as far as what to do.
Read this and see if that can help you

That's the First thing I read when I searched for a solution. But that relies on the computer seeing the phone, which mine doesnt. It's looking like jtag may be the route I have to go. Any have any experience with those services

No CM9 nightly is 101.56MB. They are usually around 130MB. You probably flashed a CM7 nightly. AS long as download mode is working, you can flash resurrection and then the correct nightly.... or odin back to stock, root... then flash the nightly, but make sure you have the correct version as the CM7 and CM9 nightlies appear in the same list and it's easy to grab the wrong one if you aren't careful.

Do you have the drivers installed? If so, and it's still not working, you might try a different USB port and/or cable combo to see if one of them could be wonky.

HELP! Bricked Galaxy S2- GT-i9100
I have a galaxy s2 gt-i9100 and i love this phone but it's been bricked and i want to know if theres anything i can do. I was running cm10 no problem for awhile now even though one of my flashes took away my computers ability to see my phone when plugged in and i've tried everything. I thought mobile odin was what i was looking for to flash the official JB that came out. so i flashed it and then that was all she wrote for my phone. won't turn on at all i just see a greyed out battery on my screen.
i can get into download mode using button combos no problem but odin doesn't recognize just like computer.
I can get into recovery mode but it's not the same as when cm10 was on i think it's stock recovery from when i tried to flash with mobile odin and the options it shows me do not help me at all.
my question is: can i save my phone? or do i have to buy a new one?
P.S. It must be the phone cause i'm using a new computer and it can't see the phone either, i downloaded kies and when i plug in the phone it still goes through the process of finding and trying to DL the drivers but then it fails. same as my computer.
please and thank you

[Q] Non-Responsive Touchscree & ODIN Won't Flash

Ok, I flashed the experimental 4.2.1 update from temasek earlier. flashed his custom kernel. all worked fine.
Told me my SD Card was 'damaged', which I now understand just needed a fix which was provided. However I decided to just forget it and restore my nandroid backup i'd taken the previous night.
Checked the folder was there, which it was, so booted to CWM, did all the wipes and chose "restore". much to my horror, it failed to find any files.
stupid mistake part: i decided to flash the perseus kernel back over the top to see if the CWM would recognise my nandroid files and restore them
the screen just went mad - had blue lines all over the place, the samsung logo jumped about and the screen went off.
i booted back to CWM and found the touchscreen was unresponsive. everything else worked - buttons, CWM. The phone is also recognised in ODIN, so I grabbed the latest stock JB leak and flashed it. it flashed fine, but it was a middle eastern rom, which didn't help, and the touchscreen was still dead.
the PC still recognised it, so i coped the temasek files back on to see if i could re-flash those, which i did, but still no luck with the touchscreen.
flashed the JB leak again with ODIN, which worked. plugged it in to the PC and copied across a nandroid backup folder i'd taken earlier in the evening last night, since the other one seems to not work. rebooted and it still wouldn't find it.
Now i've got the latest stock rom for the uk but ODIN just won't flash anything - the phone is recognised, the MD5 sum on the rom checks out but i always get "Complete(Write) operation failed" error each time. I plug the phone in to the PC, and it recognises it just fine, but KIES is sitting on the "connecting" screen and not doing anything - i've reinstalled the latest drivers as well.
I'm starting to be resigned to the fact i've killed it, but if anyone has any ideas, i'd be hugely grateful - thankyou
touchscreen dead is getting more and more common. Not sure what is going on but if u cant flash anything from odin maybe u have dead mmc chip or something. Hopefully you resolve it or a trip to sammy service centre hopefully can fix under warranty for u
Edit close down all kies software whilst using odin

i dont have warranty as the phone was bought second hand.
i'm just on the phone to my insurance providers though for accidental damage ..it might mean i have to drop it downstairs though !
ooeerr .. rebooted my PC, reconnected to ODIN and it's flashing the UK Stock ROM i got .. fingers crossed. I really don't want to have to drop it downstairs. The insurers will want to inspect it and if there's a custom rom on it, it might get bounced

unfortunately your touchscreen died and your only option is to bring it for warranty because of the bad flash, if you have warranty i suggest follow my simple guide here.

i'll see what i can do but it's now stuck in a bootloop after flashing the rom i grabbed earlier, so will try another one.
i might have to kill it stone dead if none of this works
each rom i try in ODIN never boots - just goes into a bootloop.
i suppose if the insurers do inspect it, they may well not be able to get to see the flash counter if they can't boot it up - so it'll have a stock, unrooted rom on it anyway, so does anyone think i'll be ok ?

at the moment i can't access anything - it just sits at the samsung logo now. CWM is now no longer accessible either - i pop the battery, wait a few minutes then put it back in. I hold down Up/Power/Middle button and the Samsung Logo flashes, but nothing happens.
I can still put it in to download mode and flash roms with odin, but nothing happens .. i think i'm going to have to accept it's dead
My last roll of the dice is to grab one of the earlier roms from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931
and see what that does in ODIN

1. you don't have to wipe anything before restoring a backup, it doesn't make a difference.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal no matter where you live
Well I don't particularly want to get into an argument here, as i'd much prefer a phone that works so i'll just thank you for your input.
i think you have to solve the bootloop issue first by searching in the forum, im not expert so cant give you better advice on bootloop,

thanks. it doesn't actually bootloop now, it just sits on the glowing samsung logo and doesn't move.
i just want to get a stock rom back on it and i'm going to just let it go. i'm a bit concerned that on the download screen it says "Custom Binary Download: Yes (19 Counts)". I know I did reset the flash counter not too long ago before I flashed the Darky Rom, so if this is indeed the flash counter, then i've obviously not done something right, so it'll show multiple flashes ..
ok, we've had developments ..
i actually got it in to CWM (don't know how..) and did a factory reset. it then did boot up into the OS but - no touchscreen still.
however, i've just tried connecting it to KIES and it's detected it so i'm going to try the emergency recovery thing ..
he says, as he selects the option and KIES then goes back to "connecting" .. *GROAN* .. and then comes back to tell me it's not supported to upgrade firmware via KIES .. *BIGGER GROAN*
Ok, downloaded and flashed an earlier rom for the UK but still no luck with the screen. Kies won't do any kind of emergency firmware upgrade either so that's that. i'll have to try and get one of those OTG USB dongles so i can get the flash counter reset though ..

[Q] In doghouse - Bricked my wife's i9205

I bought her an unlocked i9205 back in December. It was rooted already. I put SU and TWRP on it and did a backup of it. Well she kinda trashed it so I did a TWRP restore which ended with an error. Now it just boots to the Samsung logo. Do I need to load a new ROM now? I'm hoping I can find something to just put on an SD card and flash with TWRP. Any help is good. I have a PC setup with drivers for it. PDANET, ADB, etc.. No Odin though.

I can get into TWRP recovery. Will any ROM work with that? Can you recommend any ROMs? The stock one was fine but it was so full of Samsung bloat it really didn't have much available RAM left of it's 1.5GB after boot. I guess I don't care as long as it's stable and works so I can get out of the doghouse...LOL

Grab Odin and flash stock ROM
*S.O.F.A*2SHAYNEZ*K.C.C.O*
Thanks guys. I'm trying a MegaFireMj2V3 just cuz I already downloaded it. Stock kinda sucked. I'd look and she'd have 3 apps running with low memory warnings. It was rooted and I'd uninstall a lot of bloat, but somehow it would auto update all the bloat right back within minutes. I'll go back to stock if needed but I want to try something de-crapped first.
- Joe
It's worse now.
Ok. Flashing MegaFireMj2V3 was a fail. It seems as if the system partition always fails. So I got Odin and a stock ROM. That failed also, and now I just have a couple of little red lines telling me to use Kies Recovery or something. And I can't get Kies to connect to it. My PC sees it. Samsung USB drivers install. Kies sees it plugged in but just lays there saying CONNECTING. I paid like $400 for this turkey for my wife for Christmas and now she's yelling at me that I blew it up.. I guess I can keep trying Kies but it's looking fail so far. This really stinks. I bought it on Amazon. It's supposed to have a 2 year warranty. It's Unlocked International Version with Warranty. But I don't know what country?

I don't have any recovery anymore. It boots to a small failed update message. It's toast unless I can get Kies to work somehow.
- Joe
there is a way to use Kies to get Stock on there.. It involves typing in the words of your model or something like that./
maybe someone here can remember better than I.
On the Note, Ive seen it alot. there is a certian way that you have to type in the make and model and it will stock-ize you.
That is "IF" you can get it to connect to Kies..
I'll suggest you use a different USB cable..
Some will and some wont connect.....
good luck
Why don't you to flash a stock rom with Odin, I think you have dounload mode (as you don't have custom recovery it is the only way) ?
Search YOUR rom on sammobile, or the same level (not possible to doungrade you shall have more problem ! )
Lol this also happened to me but to recover, since you now only have download mode, connect it to Odin on your PC and find a brand new firmware. Try the latest versions because that's your best shot of recovering it. It doesn't matter what region you pick as long as that the model number is the same. Do note however that if you fail the flash KNOX will trip up and you will void the warranty. If it doesn't fail, it should boot up to the Samsung logo. If it still bootloops, go into recovery (since it should be there now), and wipe everything. Then your phone should boot up nicely.
Note: New firmware contains KNOX so rooting and installing custom recovery is now dangerous.

Stuck at Recovery and can't boot android

So I just installed the 0.2.3 cm 12 beta rom on and since I was giving my galaxy light to a friend I decided to do a factory reset so when I did that the phone rebooted and now its stuck at the twrp recovery splashscreen. I've already tried rebooting and re-flashing twrp but no luck. Could it be a cache problem or something? Thanks to all in advance who reply.

Im guessing you wiped device and if you go into recovery and try to reboot system it will tell you no os installed if that is the case you can plug device into computer and still use twrp as file manager thats if you had a backup stored on desktop or drag a CM zip to device .
other method of course would be to enter download mode and use odin to flash stock firmware for your device not sure if you have t399 or the N varient lastest beening OH2/OH3 you can find that in my filehost i have stock odin zips to flash.

I used the download from this guide by ShabbyPenguin: http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-restore-your-galaxy-light-to-stock-mja.846767/
Hey guys...I did the same thing but my t399 must have lost battery charge because when I picked it back up, it was dead...I plugged in and it started flashing the Samsung screen slowly at me. It would not reboot. I did get download and twrp to show up and start to atleast work enough to flash and Odin again...I used Shabby's kernel source and it is still doing the same thing after flashing through Odin. Still stuck on Samsung screen slowly flashing and recovery shows no operating system. I'm about to put it back in a drawer but I feel it's so close that I had to ask for help. I flashed shabby work to root and recovery. I flashed twrp 2.7 and the cm12 beta rom. Then back to shabby guide to get it to recognize, it did..kind of..but still boot looped. Flashed 3 times... No changes. Can anyone help or is it time for a staircase? hA!
Oh yes .. I don't think the battery is bad.. I checked it with a meter and it reads voltage. It does get pretty hot while I'm working on it though and my pc shows its charged at 100% but the phone doesn't show that...it stays in like dead mode. Nit recognizing again. Anybody have suggestions? In recovery it also indicated it can not locate most of my files in read after I flash.. what am I doing wrong.
sgh-399n bootloop
It's taken me 2 months to cry for help. I'm not a complete noobie, but I'm completely exhausted. First of all, one morning I woke up and I thought that somehow my battery was dead. It wasn't. Eventually, I found it in a bootloop. This phone was working fine, running a "Tiger_Lilly" ROM the night before. I've tried everything using Odin, adb and fastboot (I'm not sure how to get the phone in fastboot mode and also, before using Odin, TWRP wouldn't mount/data.) I'm stumped. Would appreciate some help, thank you.
HELP...!!!

What was you using prior to it bootlooping and what rom was installed have you modifed anything else such as partions etc...
also list your method and link rom your trying. just wondering if its the lastest version for device. while in odin also make sure Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time is only selected and what version of odin are you using?
If your unable to flash any rom thru odin then there must be a major problem else where until we can narrow it down no one can assist you.
hi good morning, i actually dont know the prior version of the SW, i am using the available version on sammobile of the sw and i am trying odin to flash, ive already used odin 3.8 and 3.9 and the one that said it is configured to this phone in the thread.

Help please! After flashing stock rom with Odin speaker and microphone don't work

Helo! I really need some help. I used to flash a lot of custom roms on my Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730. Everything was fine but yesterday i wanted the stock rom back and installed it with Odin. It was succesful, but after i was done the first thing that appeared after boot was an error telling me that 'the encryption failed' and i had to reset it. I did it and it finally worked. I used the phone for a bit then i realised that it doesn't do a sound and later descovered that the microphone doesnt work either. I tried installing custom rom again but same. I'm now having the stock jelly bean rom and can use anything except for sound and microphone. Please help me.
Looks like I can't watch videos either. The videos will freeze and when i pause and upause they will go for like 1 second then freeze again.
Did you try flash stock rom again which has different baseband

try wipe and formatting all from recovery and flash stock with latest build or baseband
Well I flashed the latest stocks ROM that was meant for my carrier. This made the sound and videos not work. Then I rooted and installed twrp and wiped everything and installed my working custom ROM. Same issue. I installed with Odin the stock one AGAIN and same issues. Before installing with Odin the stock ROM meant for my exactly device everything was good.

Well, everything worked perfectly before doing it. I doubt that the hardware is malfunctioning. I installed the stock rom with odin and that made the sound mic and video not work. Then i rooted and installed twrp and from there i wiped everything except for my ext card. From there i installed the working CM 13 that ive been using before flashing stock rom. It didnt solve anything.
Anyway my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Express GT-I8730. Oh and i found one more problem: if i dont use my phone for a few minutes it will power off without any sign. I'll just see that it is powered off and have to turn it on.

Ur phone don't turns off.
It seems sod(screen of death) happens.
When something cut off Android systems wakelock.
It happened to me too when I used powernap and oldest versions of greenify.
Speaker problem maybe causes for hardware but vedio shud run..
I RECOMMEND U TO DO THIS THINGS.
GO TO MOUNT AND STORAGE OF CWM.
FORMAT EVERYTHING THERE.
THAT MEANS
SYSTEM
BOOT
CACHE
DATA
PRELOAD
MODEM
DATA/DATA/MEDIA
AND EVERYTHING U CAN FORMAT.
THEN GO TO ODIN AND MARK ON F RESET TIME.
THEN FLASH STOCK.
SEE IF IT HELPS
Nope. I did it AGAIN and it still doesn't work. Nither the sound nor the videos. And if i don't use it for a few seconds or minutes it will simply trun off. It is not SoD. I have no ideea what to do. I installed the good rom.
