[Q] Filesysem problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I've a huge problem...
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII, and i was moving some files to my internal sdcard with the mass storage funtion enabled. The problem became when i have to move a file of about 4,5 gb and i couldt because of the fat32 system. So i opened a cmd, convert the filesystem to ntfs, move the file and wow, the internal sdcard was gone.
I downloaded a ntfs mounter app to mount the internal sdcard in android and i can read it but the problem is that i cant read the partition in windows and theres no way to convert it :/
Sorry for my english, but does anyone have any idea to fix it? I searched the web and the forum but i couldnt find any solution, all the solutions was about mounting the sdcard and i dont want that, i wanna find a way to read that internal sdcard in windows :/
Thanks!

perhaps look for ADB

Hello maty 25
if you say it is the internal sd-card(the phone-owns memory) then you should take a look at the ADB(Android Debugging Bridge)-topics here on the XDA-forum. perhaps there is a way to handle your problem.
i believe there is a way to help you. just keep on searching. good luck!

Write access on external storage

Good morning everyone,
I am not sure if it has been answered before, search didn't get me anywhere...
If i try to copy files from my sd card or my internal space to a usb-or hard drive (pluged in over usb) it refuses to obey my commands( ;-) )
I can read just fine but i can't write anything(nor can i create a directory)
I have tried the standard file explorer, astro and androzip.
I could try terminal but that wouldn't be a real sollution even if it would work
I have a 101 with .71 standard firmware....
Does it work with urukdroid?
Is there a sollution? (Different mount ?)
Thank you
What type of filesystem is on that hd?
I asume you have ntfs and that is readonly.

I agree with the previous post, make sure the file system isn't NTFS, go for Fat32/vfat, and I am pretty sure that will solve your problem.
Oh yeah just missed that ntfs is a ms filesystem fat will not work i have very large files.....
I read somewhere that ntfs support is comming to android like with linux and mac.....
Thank u for ur answers...
Ntfs support is allready there, but readonly.
If you have big files and need windows access, use ext3, as there are windows drivers for that.
As mentioned, ext3 is your best option to go with.
Or just stick with read only and NTFS for files over 4gb.
yeah i am just looking into it i have quite some storage a whole reformat isn't an option right now.....
thank u all

[Q] emmc/external_sd help for Resurrection Remix 2.1

Seen as I can't ask in the actual Resurrection Remix thread cause of having to have a certain amount of posts, I ask here...
This is for RR 2.1
Has anyone figured out how to get /mnt/emmc to be mounted as /mnt/sdcard/external_sd.
Have been trying, from different threads, to edit vold.fstab and build.prop to no avail. (only get bootloops)
(used root explorer as other file managers cause bootloops sometimes even for small edits)
So if anyone has gotten it to work with this rom could you show what and how to edit the files. It would be greatly appreciated.
Why do you want to mount your internal memory as your external memory?
I would like my actual 8GB sdcard to be mounted as /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
and the internal memory as /mnt/sdcard
Cause right now the 8GB is /mnt/emmc
and the internal memory is /mnt/sdcard
So I'm guessing from your post that its not supposed to be that way to begin with?
but either way it was like that in GB roms and it was so much more convenient to go to straight to the external_sd folder instead of going the extra step of going to mnt/emmc.
And some apps can not find files that are now in /mnt/emmc. So I have to put them on the internal memory.
It was faster to work with.

hey pal check this Multimount sdcard app from play store hope it might resolve ur issue
ps- the emmc / external sd issue is related to AOKP since in AOKP the EMMC folder is ware u find all ur external sdcard files and folders
But isnt that just for mounting sdcard on your PC while its still mounted (accessible) on your phone?
yea, but im wondering if there is a way to get it to actually mount in the "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd" path or anything. as long as its accessible via a folder in the sdcard.
It makes many things so much more convenient.

Thanks.
Just one more wondering thought. but is there a way to do it like the first link so it starts on reboot, without the need for extra programs (like editing a file or making a startup script)
If not, then its fine, I'll be happy with these.

[Q] Mount Galaxy 10.1 as Mass Storage? SD Mounter

Hi there,
For Xperia S there is a great App called SD Mounter. With this you can ad your phone in mass storage mode and use it like any external drive...
Is there something similar for the Galaxy Tab 10.1? I couldn't find anything....

Is there really nothing similar for Galaxy Tab 10.1? All Devs are confident with connecting in MTP mode? I can't believe...

I don't think we can get Mass Storage again, there are tech reasons for this, but there are alternatives, depending on your Operating System maybe you have some sort of MTP mounter, you can also try this adb file explorer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821601
And for "small" files, you can get with wifi (airdroid, swiftp, etc)
Hope this helps

Thanks for that!
Doesn't help me much as I would like to use tools like Beyond Compare or Calibre, and they need a drive letter to use it "the easy way"... I know I can do it over WLan or ftp: or things like that, but they s**k and are really slow, even with small amounts of 1 or 2 GB...
Even if you have an OS that can read ext4, there is no SD card in the tab, no stand alone /sdcard partition, only the folder /data/media fused as /sdcard. Which means you can't unmount /sdcard and mount it as UMS without unmounting /data and you don't want to do that. Something like samba fileshare over wifi is your best chance to give the Tab a drive letter.

But it's the same with the Xperia S (link in my first post), it has no external SD card but the App can mount the internal /sdcard in mass storage mode with drive letter
So does the Nexus S but regardless of them only having internal storage, they have a seperate partition for this internal storage. The Tab 10.1 has no such partition, it has "unified storage" for apps and user data. No more seperation of apps and user data, no more "2 GB for apps, 14 GB for user data". It's one big partition. That's how it should be since Honeycomb, how all the new Nexus devices work. The drawback is no more unmounting of /sdcard and mounting as UMS with file level access for the OS.

If it is write protected you should be able to copy from it. As snaker445 said, I also had this problem with my girlfriend's s2, could not create files, folders, apps didn't work, gallery was showing an error about not having enough space. I could remount the internal memory as read/write but will return to read only after any operation that writes.I checked for errors, nothing was found. Ended up copying everything from the internal memory to computer (using ums, mtp didn't work properly for some reason. If you are not rooted this will be a problem; I guess you could copy everything on an external sd card instead), format the internal memory (from phone menu), copy everything back. Everything worked after that, even mtp

[Q] Galaxy tab 3 SM - T210 exSDCARD

dont know if this is the right place to post my question but since im a noob the forum doesn't let me post anywhere else and this is the first time ive posted here because i usually find what im after in this forum so thanks for that !
ive read alot about the Read Write issues being experienced with Google's Android unwilling to let you use your external SD card for storage of Apps and writing to it , ive followed some tutorials about the net and even tried jamisons pre-rooted Rom for SM-T120 and everytime i get nowhere with it all .. my tab3 is now rooted but i cant write to the card .. is this going to be possible or does anyone know something i haven't tried ...
so i will tell you what ive tried for now
editing permissions.xml
loading the pre-rooted firmware
changing permissions to vold.fstab file
is there something out there !
thanks for any suggestions and help .. much appreciated Paul :good:
im running 4.1.2 Android Version and its Rooted - Build JZ054K.T210XXAMG2
I think that is not enough. I did the same ... in my research I came across the void.fstab in some devices is possible in the galaxy 3 do not know what the correct code.
I found universal files vold.fstab, but without success

I may have just found a solution , the root method is fine by jamison ... then once that has been flashed and the tablet has restarted , go into oden again and flash the CWM recovery the same way as you do for the pre rooted firmware .. then follow these instructions i found posted by stefan !
Ok, I fixed the issue:
- Mounted USB storage (external SD) in CWM
- Backed up all files from my external SD (except a strange folder named µATA, which could not be read at all)
- Formatted the external SD under Windows
- Copied back my files to the external SD
- Restarted Android
Now the external SD is mounted r/w. Also in Root Explorer I can see that the external SD is r/w and not r/o as before.
hope this works for you as i think its working for me as ive just been able to delete a folder from widows via the USB cable .. where i didnt have access before

The device recognizes the sd as storage for apps?
I always had access to my sd on windows with USB cable, except in recovery, i use the TWRP, in recovery i can't mount SD with USB cable, but i think is an issue of TWRP or CWM.
My problem is to enable the move app to sd or recognize it has internal memory. I know that in SGS3 is possible to recognize sd card as internal memory changing the script in vold.fstb, in tab 3 it should not be so different.
PS: is a shame... i can't post links yet .
