New to the Rebound. Easiest way to unlock bootloader and root it? - HTC Rezound

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Download this for safekeeping for later if you need it & compare md5 checksum. Download a custom recovery, I recommend getting Amon RA 3.16, although TWRP 2.4.1.0 has been rock solid for me. Download SuperSU v1.10 flashable as well link
1. Run an android backup also backup contents of your internal storage.
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Confirm boot of the device and sync your Google account
4. Flash custom recovery through PH98IMG method or using fastboot "fastboot flash recovery **name-of-img**.img".
5. Flash the SuperSU update.
6. Confirm boot again. Once booted install this from Play Store.
7. In the Busybox app. checkmark replace all then press install>smart install. Then reboot.
8 (optional) Restore data from your adb backup (See step 1).
9. You are now rooted on the stock rom

I want to thank you so much for your response. I am extremely new to the terms you've mentioned such as fast boot etc. is there any way you can post a more broken down step by step or if you knew of a link on here that has steps for noobs ? Thanks !!

Have you looked at? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824
To get things started. To unlocked your phone. You must go here: http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
That link is a great step by step way of showing you what to do to get it unlocked. After that come back and we can help you more with flashing a new recovery and getting your first ROM on your phone.

Is the all in one tool kit for unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone and if so is this all that needs to be done? :
Download the toolkit DO NOT RENAME THE FOLDER
2. Download Winrar from here. Install it after you download it
3. Extract the folder anywhere.
4. Run the program
I really appreciate all your help. I will get started on unlocking the bootloader via your second link. Btw does it have to be done via phones Web browser or via usb cable from phone to pc?

Is there a way or link to get HTC drivers as I can't get them via plugging my phone into my pc. It can't locate them and I don't have the disc as I got this phone second hand thanks

Allow it to install the prerequisite software (these contain the needed drivers), but do not allow HTC sync to install or install it fully but disable HTC sync while you're working on this.

Thanks for your response ! What did you mean disable HTC sync? Is that the option I see on my phone when I plug it in? Leave it unchecked or did you mean something else ?

Have to get root first. "Walk first before you can run"

I'm so lost I thought I had to unlock my bootloader first per post #4 but I needed to make sure I had HTC drivers on my pc.

Aren't these the drivers he needs?

Also found this step by step by asking my friend Google..

P.S. Could a mod remove the 5 min wait restriction between posting on my account? I've been a member for over a year and only have a dozen posts. No fear of spamming from me...

I think these are the one I used when I first rooted my HTC G2. And they've been on my computer ever since, so I had no trouble with my Rez.
---------- Post added at 04:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:14 PM ----------
Actually, the All-In-One kit by Hasoon will install the drivers for you. Just run the Rezound.exe and on the left on the to-do list just click on #1 to install the drivers and click the "GO" button.

I'm trying to understand hasoons all in one toolkit. Does it root and unlock the bootloader or just root the device ? Under features in his thread does that list what the toolkit does for you or steps one has to take to unlock the bootloader ? Thanks !

I need help with the rooting process please

I want to root my Motorola Photon. I have been reading many posts on different rooting methods and I'm confused on all these methods. Of course, the dockless method sounds like the best since I don't have the dock. Can someone who is more experienced in rooting please tell me what is the best or easiest way to root the phone? Does anyone have a good step by step thread or website I can use? Any help would be great!
Shabby has a thread in the dev section which is one click. I am happy to help. What exactly are you confused about?

Thank you for your reply! I got my Photon the other day. I need to know what to do to root it. What do I have to download or do to root it? Yeah, I'm new at rooting. I tried the Z4 Root app but it don't work on Gingerbread.

This thread here offers the 'once-click-root' for our device. What operating system are you on? I'll assume windows. If so download the zip file as well as the appropriate drivers and then just run the bat file.
I downloaded the drivers and the zipped Photon OCR file. I installed the drivers. Do I put the zipped file on the SD card or do I run one of the files with the phone plugged in to my computer?

I ran the root batch file. It went through the process and said I should have root but I don't. I tried it a second time and got the same thing. How do I get the root access?
Check your drivers and try again. There's also the torpedo root method.

I will be making a video on how to root using the most of the methods tonight. It won't be done and edited until late tonight but I will definitely get one up! That way we can aleviate some of these threads and issues people are having.

Man...I downloaded many apps and tried different prompts in the thread. I am lost!!!! Is there anyone I can call for tech support? I'm trying to get this to work and I'm not having any luck. I guess I'm about as noob as noob can be! Is there a youtube vid anywhere?
um i think he was making a comment towards calling someone on here to help him with it.
i honestly dont understand the issue with so many people not being able to root... yall have a root that is far easier then the nexus s 4g (i should know i wrote the one click for that phone too)
Here is shabbypenguins one click root that worked very easy.
anyways without further waiting here it is
Download
Drivers in case you need em
32-Bit 64-Bit
driver mirrors
Download and install the drivers. Download and extract the one click root to your desk top.
Run the one click root from the folder you extracted to your desk top. After 3 reboots you should be rooted.
Make sure when you plug your phone into your computer you select charging only in the notification pull down.
If it don't root your phone the first time try it again, some people reported having to do it twice.

This may be a stupid question, but does it completely wipe your phone when you root it?
I'm close. I did it 4 times and no go. I attached a screenshot on the info. Could it be the phone resetting itself twice during the process?

Try turning the phone off then on.make sure you have the drivers installed. Try reinstalling them if you do them try again. Make sure USB debugging us checked on your phone under menu/settings/applications/development. And when you plug in your phone to your computer in the notification pull down make sure to check charge only.

Unlocker my Bootloader, Want root, NOT custom roms

So I unlocked my bootloader via the HTC unlocker and I would like to know the easiest way to root. Can someone link me to the right thread please?
I dont want to flash custom roms because I like the stock (sue me). I just want to be able to delete all the crap T-mobile pre-loaded onto it, and some of the things that constantly run and kill me battery.
I know the bootloader unlock was the first step, now I need help with the second. BTW this is my first time so be gentle...

One more question, is a SD card mandatory or can I use the internal storage?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
First make sure you have the following downloaded and copied to the root of your sdcard.
Follow this per the letter and you shouldn't have any problems.
Download the attached files to the root of your external sdcard. This works best if you have a seperate sdcard reader.
Shut off your phone.
Remove the battery from your phone (just to be sure that it's off.)
Place the battery back in.
Put in your sdcard.
Place the battery cover back on.
Hold the VOLUME DOWN button while pressing POWER and HOLD BOTH until your device powers up.
You should now see a prompt if you want to upgrade your Recovery.
Upgrade or update (whatever it is) your recovery
Now go ahead and select Recovery from the menu.
Select the option to install from sdcard.
Locate su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and flash it.
Reboot your rooted phone.

You can flash a custom recovery without a use of an external sdcard.
You must have fastboot.exe prepped first.
Are you set with fastboot?

Do you have fastboot on your computer?
If so, all you'll need to do is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img with your phone in hboot mode. That's it. NO sdcard required!

Alright...
I cooked this up in line two minutes.
All you need to do is have the drivers installed first and USB Debugging enabled.
Unzip and run the Flash.bat as Administrator.
I hope it'll help.
Binary is the man! Thanks for all the tips on the forum. I've only posted a few times and have never rooted a phone either. I think I might try this. Wish there was an easy way to get rid of most of the sense crap and make this baby fly and have better battery. Any suggestions?

You can root and install a custom rom like BeastMod. A lot of stuff was removed and might meet your requirements.
Thanks! So the noobs.zip you attached will do what you explained earlier? Do we still need the 2 files on the root of our sd card? Just run noobs.zip from puter?

This should do everything for you.
All you need to do is have USB Debugging enabled in settings, plug it into your computer and run the bat script.
What it will do.
It'll reboot your phone and go into a white screen and send the recovery to your phone. Afterwards it will write to the nand. After that's finished it will reboot your phone automatically. You will still need to reboot to recovery after it's booted up and install the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip file. Make sure you have that on your INTERNAL sdcard if you don't have an EXTERNAL. The 5.0.2.7 recovery is the only recovery that supports the internal sdcard thus it is the only recovery that will work for you.

Moonshine Problems Come here

OK some of you guys who are racking their brains why they can't do this, you know you have everything right. Well I was one of those guys then I tried something and felt so F'n dumb. If you know you have linux live cd and your phone is set up right but something juuuust isn't right I think I know what your problem is. My dumba$$ ASSUMED I had to be in Fastboot mode, GUESS what. . . DUH, nope, your phone should be on regular. OMG after I did that and ran moonshine and let it go I was S-Off in minutes. I feel like an a$$, so if your having problems and kept booting in to fastboot stop! lol Hope this helps, thanks is always nice, peace and good luck.
So you should already know to take off fastboot in the battery section, put her in debugging mode, be on 2.06 FW. Have a linux cd burnt, I used mint 15, phone should be charged up.
Run your linux cd, if your on mint right click in the downloads folder were you should already have downloaded moonshine, like I said in the download folder right click and open terminal, then paste this command IF YOU ARE VERIZON tar -zxf moonshine_dlx_2.06.605.1.tgz that unzips moonshine in the downloads folder, now LEAVE THE TERMINAL OPEN and copy and paste this sudo ./distiller Read everything in the terminal the type Yes , read some more and type Yes when prompted again. Uh yes your phone should already be connected, Then sit back and let it do it's thing. When it is finished it WILL TELL YOU it's done and ask you to power the phone by holding Volume down and power, then life is GOOD again and you can start doing other junk to your phone again. Like CWM, make a back up MAYBE<<<YESSS do that.
People should have to take a quiz verifying that they've read the instructions before being allowed to download Moonshine.

I did a factory wipe and reset, after setting the phone via instructions, booting the phone as I would normally, installed the PDAnet driver, after uninstalling the HTC sync and drivers, reboot laptop all went well. Minutes later went to do my girls DNA without wipe and factory reset got the WTF error. So she doesn't want to reset her phone. I'm not an expert, just thought I would share my mistake and hoping you guys will to. And maybe we can help sort each other out.
Scratch that, the PdaNetA4126.exe was after moonshine, I needed that on Windows 8 later for ADB

Disable fast boot in settings/battery then enable USB debugging, restart your phone then hold power and volume down, wipe and factory reset. Boot your phone like you normally would. plug it in to your PC while already running your live CD, moonshine should already be in the download folder, open a terminal, if running mint just right click IN the DL folder and open terminal. I'm guessing you already downloaded and unzipped moonshine. then copy and paste this just like it is in the terminal
sudo ./distiller sit back and wait, Yes Yes then a little more waiting.
After moonshine and S-off I downloaded>>>> recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-dlx.img and used Windows/ADB to flash or install to DNA. Couldn't get adb to find DNA. . . . until I uninstalled and deleted HTC Sync and used PdaNetA4126.exe Then finally in device manager it came up an Android interface or something. So for me I made a folder called "fastboot" and dropped it right in the C drive so when I open a CMD window I can just type "cd c:\fastboot" then with phone connected in NORMAL mode and PDA installed type "adb devices" you should Fblah blahblah, that should be your DNA Then I believe you type "adb reboot bootloader" and your phone will go into fastboot mode, it should say "FASTBOOT USB" then type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.2-dlx.img" that is NOT a typo so don't fk with it! Then reboot into recovery and back up your phone. Then for me I flashed viperDNA_1.3.1.zip and Blackout_DeoDexed_LockMod.zip the lock mod puts the lock ring on the DNA on the bottom right corner of your phone. I like, a lot. The viper ROM is cool with sweet install options, the cwm is the touch version, GET IT you'll like it I promise.
That is if you download that version of cwm and place it in the same folder, hence the command.

Moonshine doesn't require a wipe, just some users have wiped and its moved forward, it removes whatever is preventing it from going through, an app, a setting, any number of things may get in the way, but the time to find it wasn't taken.
Moonshine can also be used on windows or Linux machines, not sure about osx.

Confirmed: Moonshine with Windows and Linux Mint BOTH work and NO Factory Wipe necessary...at least NO Wipe for me in Windows. Just let it do it's magic; search for drivers, reboot many time..takes about 5-10 min. Some may S-OFF W/ROOT quicker than others, but it works. Amazing job by beaups and co. Thank you again

Do you mean that I should unroot and remove the custom recovery and put back the stock recovery which I back it up earlier.

Well this is the file name
Code:
OTA_T6_UL_JB43_SENSE55_HTC_Europe_1.54.401.1-1.19.401.2_release_341451bchda87kitj44eh9.zip

Issues with Update and Fastboot
I'm also having issues with the update... Got stock rom, cwm recovery and backups. Glad to have it back after screwing up my partition... ? Atm I'm not able to get my One connected in fastboot. As usbdisk it does, though... I de- and reinstalled all adb's and other necessary drivers several times... And I thought about flashing the recovery img of the update zip to get the whole update installed; do you think this is possible (provided I get my device connected in fastboot) ?
lol I just saw the stock recovery in an other thread, nevermind, I'll give it a shot...

I'm still strugglin' gettting my device connected in adb/fastboot
This is what I get when I plug in my One and reboot-bootloader and then it doesn't recognize the device....
Uninstall every driver you see connected to it in windows device manager. Restart pc and install htc sync manager. After it installs connect phone once without usb debugging and then unplug and connect again with usb debugging. You can then uninstall only htc sync manager if you want. Leave the driver package it installs. Then try...

Your OS seems pretty old there. Which country are you from? My OS is 1.25.111.2, I also agree with Jiggity Janx. Reinstall HTC Sync, and follow his instructions.

So, thanx for your advices. I already tried to de- and reinstall all drivers I'm Swiss FYI... I guess it doesn't mean something good when I look the attached shot...

CMD wont Change to \Android

I just purchased the Sprint variant of the HTC One Max and decided to unlock the bootloader to root it. I followed the instructions up to the point where I have to have to run the fastboot command in CMD. The example shows the CMD changing its directory to \Android. When I try to do this, I'm given the error: "The system cannot find the path specified." I tried just doing fastboot command, but came back with "fastboot is not recognized..."
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Android SDK, Java Runtime, and HTC Sync are all installed and updated.
Thanks in advance!

You need to run cmd prompt as admin and CD to wherever the platform tools folder is installed (part of the sdk)...

Thank you for the quick reply.
This worked, but when I attempt to run the command for the fastboot I get an error saying "The program can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer."
Was this something that was supposed to be installed from one of the Android SDK installs?

Sounds like part of it didn't install correctly. Rinse and repeat. Maybe something got hosed in your earlier attempts.

It was in the sdk\platform-tools folder.
Does the command line have to be directed to the folder containing the fastboot application file? Inside said platform-tools folder is the fastboot file as well as the ApbWinApi.dll file.
OH! I think I got it! I'll report back with final details...

Yep! Unlocked the bootloader successfully! Now, I'm trying to Root and the instructions I'm following are good, but I'm stuck again - It says to run CMD and use the command "adb devices." It comes back with nothing found, yet, according to the instructions my phone's serial number should be listed. I placed the Superuser.zip file in the phone's storage (per requisite) and tried to run the command with the phone on normally and again in the bootloader.
No luck... Suggestions?
Edit: USB Debugging wasn't on... Trying again...

If you are unlocked you can simply download a custom recovery for your phone into your fastboot directory and boot your phone to boot loader (fastboot) mode. Flash your recovery using your appropriate fastboot command. Then boot to your new custom recovery and flash the su.zip you copied to the phone from recovery.

Good deal. You may want to investigate s-off'ing that thing too while you still can. Just make sure you download the right version for your phone and run as admin

Would that solve my next problem? (I'm such a sputz)
I'm rooted, but I can't uninstall anything with Titanium Backup. The last time this happened on my S3 I was told to install SuperSU and install updated binaries. I did that, but when I reboot and go back into SuoerSU it acymts as if it never happened. Apps I uninstalled are still present, too.
Would S-offing solve this?
Edit: Also, I get an annoying pop-up when I start the phone up that says vDN client has failed. Even before I unlocked and rooted. Any way to stop this?

You need to flash an insecure boot.img to disable system write protection. S-off would allow you to recover your phone using both signed and unsigned ruu. The advantage of that is when you hose your phone and there's not a current ruu for the version your phone is on - s-on user would be screwed because you cannot downgrade. Just one of many reasons.
The fc problem I'm not sure. If you aren't using that app you can disable it in the stock app manager. Same goes for stuff you might normally remove with tibu. Be warned too that future otas will likely fail if system apps are missing.

i have noticed someelse posting about the vDN client failing.. it your providers bloatware if i remember correctly and i think @dottat has a good suggestion! disabled it
So I somehow lost root privileges... After S-offing, I was asked to update the SU binary through the Superuser app (not SuperSU) and I did so. When the install finished, I went into Titanium Backup and was told I'm not rooted.
Went back into Superuser and it didn't prompt for an update, but SuperSU did. Attempted and failed.
Went into recovery and tried to recover root - no luck.
HALP!

Huzzah! Thanks again! Hopefully I can actually freeze/remove system apps without them being brought back after a reboot. Also, in the picture provided, what is that icon in the notification bar just right of the GPS icon? And, is there any way to hide some of the icons?

Don't use Superuser by ChainsDD anymore.. Personally I would love to continue to use it but he is basically no longer supporting his Superuser app and binary and hasn't updated it in a very long time. SuperSU by Chainfire is constantly being updated therefore made to work with all current versions of Android.. Quite frankly it's all the same basically anyways I just liked the skull and cross bone look lol... Chainfire is a monster as well and has a ton of root related apps and cool things going on. ChainsDD I guess passed the torch on to Chainfire???

Also I have no idea what that icon is next to the GPS icon.. You must be on Sprint, I'm on Verizon and I don't think I've seen that icon before..
