I have completely installed the CyanogenMod 7.2.0 on my Motorola Droid x2 many different times now, with several different versions of the GAPPS that were supposed to be used. (Any that I could find) However, all of the official pages I have found so far for the GAPPS, all of the links to the download page are bad. I follow every direction given carefully and the ROM installs fine every time, but every time I try to install GAPPS, it says installation aborted. All I really need is a good link to the right GAPPS I need. Thanks.

Have a stock HP Touchpad with no Android on it. I am a late entry to this mod stuff i know.. Would like to know what are my options when coming to installing ICS ROM's. I have seen posts that these builds are still at an early stage so what would guru's who have experienced those ROM's suggest. Wait for a more stable build or install it and then keep upgrading as more info becomes avail.
I personally want to get ICS asap even if some features don't work.
Can anyone link me to steps to install ICS version of classicnerd on a stock TP, would like to start off with that as i have heard some great reviews.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated !
TIA
Don't know if I should post this but here http://classicnerd.net/

Can i get some instructions to install ICS on a stock TP for classic nerd ICS, the ones in there talk about android already on it. Just dont want to to screw up my TP doing this.
Thanks.

Good lord, dont bother with the "classic nerd" suggestion above.
I will direct you to what you need.
Here's the release thread for the latest version of CM9 (they are the furthest in development at the moment, I'd stick with them for now)
rootzwiki. com/topic/15509-releasealpha05-cyanogenmod-9-touchpad/
I cant post links so take the space out of that to get the correct url.
Installation instructions:
1. While in WebOS, connect your touchpad to your pc/mac. Click to mount USB.
2. On the Touchpad, create a folder called "cminstall". In that folder, put the update-cm..... file from that thread, moboot, CWM, and Gapps (all from that thread)
3. Download ACMEinstaller2 and place it in the file where your novacom is. I usually install novacom on my pc in a specific android folder so I always know where to find it, others can find it in the default "palm" folder.
4. Restart touchpad holding up on the volume button.
5. One the arrow comes up, connect the touchpad to the pc again and open cmd or terminal (if on a mac) and navigate to the folder where you have placed acmeinstaller 2 and the novacom driver. if you need to change directory, type "cd:" followed by the folder location.
6. Enter the "novacom boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller2" command
7. Done.
There are more detailed instructions on the rootzwiki forum I linked you to. Best of luck.
Here's a video tutorial.

LOL HATERS GON' HATE
The cm9 rom fc's constantly
Besides he asked for the link to classic nerd so I provided
Both CM9 and Classicnerd are good options. I would not say one is ahead of the other at the moment, more that each has it's strong and weak points.
For Classicnerd check this link for both instructions and the rom
http://www.classicnerd.net/betas/
the install guide in there is for Android already installed i assume, what additional steps if any do i have to do to install on a stock TP. Can anyone put some steps for me to follow or a link.
TIA - Will check both ICS threads and tks evryone for helping a brotha out.

I have used cm9 and classic nerd.. which I'm running right now, personally classicnerd is more stable for me.
Anyway, the install instructions above are the same when installing any version of android, just put the zip file for the rom you want into the cminstall folder, once you have CWM you can flash between roms easily.

You don't need cm7 installed first...
OP, follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305891 the parts where it mentions cm7, just replace with cm9. Also, you'll need to use acmeinstaller2 instead of the one linked in that thread. You can get it here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/15509-releasealpha05-cyanogenmod-9-touchpad/

The guide in that directory, linked below, is from stock WebOS to ICS
http://www.classicnerd.net/betas/classicnerd_classic-va0.0.1(install_guide).docx
It has you install moboot and ClockworkMod via ACMEInstaller. After that it has you load the rom via ClockworkMod.
You will find that there are several similar ways to get Android on your device. CM9 wants you to use ACMEInstaller2 while Classicnerd has you get ClockworkMod on, then install the ROM from that point. While you can use ether it is usually best to stick with the instructions for the distro you wan to run, at least until you are more familiar with the install methods.
At the end of the day you will end up installing 3 distinct items
Moboot - The menu at the very beginning after the HP logo.
ClockworkMod - The Android based recovery.
Android - Your ROM of choice. Don't be afraid to try different once here, as long as you recognize they are early builds and use at your own risk. The Touchpad is a great device to experiment with and you will have WebOS to fall back to should anything go wrong.
Awesome.. thanks to evryone and calash for giving the detailed explanation. Will try the ICS ROM's. Will be back for more help.. LOL
Thanks Again
Good luck bro, happy flashing!
Sorry cant post this in the right thread but maybe someone can help me out here. I had the ICS Classic-va0.0.2 version working flawlessly with wifi n everything. I saw there was an SE edition update to classicnerd so i wiped my cache/dalivk/data and then went about and flashing the new zip. Now my wifi has auth probs right from startup.. Not sure whats messing this up it was working like a charm on the last release. Any help guys.. i have put the wifi to sleep as never under settings.. still nothing helps.

Wifi has generally been flakey and capricious on all versions of Android ROMs for the Touchpad so far. It works for some people and doesn't for others. Sometimes one version won't have the issues and another will etc.
If you search around there are a lot of so-called 'fixes' such as changing the wifi channel on your router etc that some people claim work and others say didn't help them. I don't recall ever reading that the definitive cause of all the wifi problems has been discovered at this point.
If you try simple things like turning the wifi off and then back on again, booting into WebOS and back into Android, changing the wifi channel on the router etc and none of that works then I would say if you find a ROM where it works for you then just stick with that one for now.
Ok am back with another qn for the Guru's
I see ClassicNerd has their official ROM now, so i want to try that out. Before i do i would like to save my app's that i have on my SE version, so that i dont have to install each of them manually again on the new ROM. I saw some posts about using Titanium Backup _ Can someone post some steps on what i should do with it to save my app's and get them back once i install the new ROM. If there is any other app or a procedure that can make this easier please chime in.
TIA
Go here and watch the rev's videos, takes all the guess work out of it he even provides all the links to the downloads you need.

They have not yet posted an "official" rom. It is still in pre-release or beta stage. That said, I'm running Classicnerd Butta 0.1.0V2 Odex and find it very stable. Not everything works yet though. Read the first part of the thread for known issues.
I have installed cm9 ics alpha 0.6 but tried cherrykang and so far I have been very happy. No fcs and it has overclock to 1.5 included. I bought spb shell 3d and it runs really smooth. I'm watching classic nerd to see how that plays out.
I have flashed many roms on my Droid X and Samsung galaxy tab 7 and now on my TP. One thing is a lot of developers working solo get burned out by people wanting updates almost daily. Classic nerd seems to have a team that hopefully can share that load.....the good, the bad and the ugly.

Yea, thats the first thing you always do. Make a backup and store it some place safe. THEN start experimenting lol.
Ok, got the backup made, flashed Eclipse 2.2.1. I like this much better than stock. Last night I was tinkering with it and installed Supercharger v6 script on it. I ran several different options and then after restarting, it was constantly on roaming for data. It was fine before, I flashed my backup back onto it and re did everything. It is back to normal. Does anyone know why it would be on roaming. Thanks for being patient with a new guy. People on here are a great help

Also, how did you do your back up? Im wanting a custom ROM on mine but I have no ABC if all foes bad and I'm not sure I could do a Nandroid.

2.3.6 Rom?
Skinzaholic:
I have a MX2 which belonged to my brother (a technologically inept moron who took the 2.3.6 update). I was finally able to gain root yesterday, and since then I've been looking for a custom rom to get rid of motoblur. Everything I've read about eclipse says that it's for 2.3.4/2.3.5 only, and will not work for 2.3.6. When you flashed it, was it fully functional for you?

All great advice. Just remember you bsr is trash when you wipe system OR data!!
Or even the rom fails to boot. Almost anything can upset bsr on the quaint Dx2. Or the Mx2 same phone ReRecovery works on it also.

Rerecovery has never worked for me.
Also all Roms work on 2.3.6. The down side is it is not downgradable. Check out the mx2 folder in my android crap folder. The link is in my signature. I kept the zips for several Roms in there. If the gapps aren't there Google for them.

Sorry to hear that. You need to "roll your own" see the latter portion of the 3rd post.
Known issue-it just won't take on some mx2's.
Hi guys
I'm getting a Touchpad tomorrow and have been looking around the ROM forum but unable to tell which is the best to install.
I've been flashing rom's for sometime onto my HTC phone and pretty comfortable with Clockwork Recovery. Is there a "How To" guide or do I need to go down the CM route?
Looking forward to seeing Android on this tablet and any help/advice to a newcomer would be appreciated.
Cheers!

There are some simple and well put togher guides in the dev section.
You need to install moboot, cwm & rom via acmeinstaller the first time you install android on these devices. Once you have moboot and cwm, you can play with other roms as easy as your HTC phones.
A lot of the guys and gals here have put some real nice guides and tweaks to make these tabs fun to play with.
I personally use the CM9... I have not jumped into the nightlies though. Mostly happy with the performance with the CM9 V2. I do however regularly check the nightly threads to see if it's worth updating.
Most of the other roms (I really have not played with many) share similar issues with CM9 builds (sporadic wifi, camera, etc) so I just stayed with the CM9 and have been happy doing so.
Good luck and have fun.
Hey welcome to the touchpad comunity!
You can start by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452625
Once you're done sweting up CWM and Moboot
I suggest trying one of these three roms : (these are the best roms)
-Official CM9 Nightlies http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452625
-Unofficial AOKP Nightlies http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452625
-ClassicNerd ICS Butta HD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472892
I suggest that you use Nightlies because they contain a lot of fixes plus new settings...
DON'T FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS
Once you flashed the rom of your choice
Get GooManager from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en
GooManafer is used to update ur roms OTA
If u wish to boost performance and/or play gameloft games Flash this zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519161

If you check out droidforums.net, they just posted an article that someone on XDA has created a GAPPS thread that has a TON of different links to everyone's different GAPPS packages.
As for the newest TWRP version, you should be able to check out their web page doing a google search and looking up your device. I am not an owner of a G3 but I'm looking to get one so it could be that the newer versions are only available from developers who have modified it
