Rooting and flashing for dummies - Verizon LG G3

I want to root and flash my G3 but I don't know a lot of the lingo. Back when I did it to my s3 it was just a few clicks. Can someone point me to a walk through that doesnt start from the middle?
I am hoping that a new rom will solve my two major problems : the wifi not staying connected to my gopro, and the phone corrupting my gopro video files when the sd card is inserted.

Guess I'm not out of the water yet. I'm rooted and my TWRP is v2.8.0.0. When I searched for a video to show me how to install CM12, it said to make sure I was V2.8.1 or higher. Now I can't find a way to update it. Also the thread for installing CM12 has a DL link for Gapps that is dead because OP retired. So I'm searching for what Gapps to dl.

If you check out droidforums.net, they just posted an article that someone on XDA has created a GAPPS thread that has a TON of different links to everyone's different GAPPS packages.
As for the newest TWRP version, you should be able to check out their web page doing a google search and looking up your device. I am not an owner of a G3 but I'm looking to get one so it could be that the newer versions are only available from developers who have modified it

Also, you can use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to download and flash the latest TWRP. I've checked and it worked just fine.

Exactly what I would've suggested. I may have seen an article on our front page, or maybe it was a link to DF, if they do that?

[Q] Questions about Root, Safestrap & Gapps for the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"

Hey,
I am about to get a new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 64gb tomorrow and I'm already checking how to root the tablet and get all the Gapps up and running.
Unfortunately there are still a few things which are a little bit confusing for me at the moment:
1. Which is the best way to make sure that the Kindle Fire does not install an OTA update on its own? I mean it can not be the solution to keep the tablet in airplane mode all the time, that is ridiculous! I read about several ways to block OTA updates, installing a firewall, changing a value in the build.prop or renaming a certain file in den /system/ folder. Which way has to be proven to be the best way?
2. After gaining root I will install Safestrap and flash the official Amazon Rom to a slot. Is there a size for the Rom partition which is recommended? I have seen Safestrap now supports up to 16gb.
3. After booting the Amazon Rom from a Safestrap slot, can you do an OTA update or will this affect the whole system?
4. Can someone please point me to the correct and latest version Gapps for the 8.9" model (Apollo)?
I'm pretty sure I will come up with more questions tomorrow, but that's for now!
Thanks for your help ...

Once you complete the process to make dual-system (both Gapps and Amazon) the HDXposed module will block updates.

It seems to be known the Xposed mod doesn't block updates. If you want the tab for the specs but also as close as possible to a stock android experience. I would recommend how I did it with SS on both stock and rom slot, airplane moding the stock slot and never going back there unless necessary. Also try to rename the files and if possible try to mod the build if you think fit.
Just my 0.02.

As soon as I open the Google+ app it crashes immediately and goes back to the launcher. Did anyone have similar experience and knows how to fix that?
Thanks!

Same as kschang with same version of Google+ (latest version). HDX 7 with 13.3.1.0 firmware. It's run fine with Cpasjuste's ROMs (both the Thor Gapps and the AOSP ROMs) as well as stock ROM with Cpastjuste's Gapps zip installer.
Hi
I've also got HDX 8.9 14.3.1.0 Apollo. How did you get supersu installed?
I've got the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip
The author recommends installing through Google Play.
But if I turn off airplane mode I'll get updated, so I can't do that.
Other option is to install supersu through CWM, TWRP or MobilOdin.
But they also require Google Play to install.
I'm on linux. What should I do?

I mean Christ the best I can find is this: http://blog.julianxhokaxhiu.com/entry/how-to-install-supersu-on-hamlet-zelig-pad-210g
But he's got a custom install script. There's no install.sh file in the zip I got.
Some old threads look promising (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410223) but will BurritoRoot or whatever worked on Kindle Fire 2 years ago work for Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Apollo???
If you got all this working, it would be great if you could just unpack all the instructions you went through. No links and trying to be timeless lillypads for the future, just a detailed case study.

TWRP 2.8.5.0?

Does it need to be Bump'd or something?

I would wait till there is more info on this release, it may need to be bumped first, plus I would like to know what changes were made before I go flashing.
Take a peek here: http://www.invisiblek.org/twrp/ and http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966014

If you are on a verizon LG G3, due to the way its locked, twrp and everything else has to be bump'd to work. Read the OP. If its not posted here, I wouldn't flash it

Installed and working so far for me!
Verizon LG G3 bumped Jasmine ROM 4.0
Moved to General, unless you are the developer it doesn't belong in Development.
Why don't some of you just use twrp manager app? This installs roms recoveries and app zips. It's easy. And yes the newest TWRP is there ready to download and flash.
Bumped 2.8.5 is up in the original android development section.

Need help making a couple choices

Hey guys, so the last phone I rooted and had a bootstrap on with custom roms was the Motorola Droid x2. We couldn't even get into the kernel. So with that being said I've acquired super user on my g3 months ago to freeze apps. But now I don't depend on my phone like I did then for work. So I want to do the whole thing and I'm unsure what choices to make. I'm not looking for a guide for installing stuff (at least not yet ) just trying to get suggestions and hopefully good recommendations.
So here's the main point for the post
TLDR!!!!!
Current android version 5.0.1
kernels- unlock it? Change it? Not sure what all you can actually do with that.
Bootstrap- clock work mod? Or any other one can't think of names but need something to load roms
Rom for battery and power- cyanogenmod is what I use to run on the x2 not sure if it's still one of the best?
Anything else I missed that I should get and check out?
Thanks in advance
Put TWRP custom recovery on your phone with the autorec TWRP app by @bender_007, in the General section of the non-variant specific G3 sections. Once you give the app superuser permissions it looks like it's hung up but give it 10-30 seconds because it's backing up your current recovery. Then click the button to install TWRP. Download the latest TWRP v2.8.7.0 from its thread also somewhere in the G3 sections, and flash it from your current TWRP.
I use @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM, which is based on the latest official LG ROM, build 35B, based on Android 5.1.1. Very happy with it, very smooth and great on battery.
I haven't heard the term bootstrap with regards to custom recoveries. I'd suggest just calling them custom recoveries.
Thanks for your input it's been a while after I read it I was like yep it's custom recoveries lol thank you again

[Solved] Need XT912 Spyder Safestrap v3.11

I've had Safestrap on my wife's XT912 for a long time and I haven't touched her phone for a few years. The Safestrap version on her phone is 3.11. I need to turn off Safestrap so I can boot the phone into BPTools mode. Unfortunately, Safestrap is no longer installed on her phone's stock slot (not sure why...) I've looked everywhere for the original apk but can't find it anywhere.
Does anyone know of a mirror of older Safestrap versions, specifically 3.11? Or can someone please post the Safestrap Spyder v3.11 apk?
Thanks!

I did end up finding a version that I initially thought wasn't compatible but turned out to be compatible. I found "Safestrap-RAZR-D4-BIO-3.11.apk" on an old how-to site and after doing a bunch more reading and seeing dead links with the same name in threads related to my phone, I realized that it would work after all. Finally, the phone is on 3.75 and I can enable and disable at will.
@Guapo613 Thanks for the offer, but I'm good now! (Hope you didn't go to any trouble - I didn't reply til after work!)

[SM-G530T][5.1.1] In search of a way to put a custom recovery on a G530T

Hey guys, I've just spent the last two days searching high and low for a way to put a custom recovery on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530T), and I've come up with close to nothing. Most forum posts about custom recoveries only refer to the SM-G530H variant of the phone, and I am in no way experienced enough to know what is and isn't safe to flash onto my phone in regards to other models custom recoveries. If someone who is more well versed in this area could let me know if any of these recoveries are safe to use, it would be greatly appreciated.
The only thing concrete that i have found on the subject is an obscure tech site's tutorial on rooting the G530T/G530P, which recommends the custom recoveries CWM and TWRP for the Grand Prime. however, the links given are disappointingly vague and do not provide any information on the models that the referenced recoveries are compatible with. As I am still a new user i am unable to post a link in this thread, so if you would like to see the referenced tutorials then you can DM me and Ill give you the link. I would really appreciate any input on this because i'm honestly out of my depth here.

There are no recoveries built for G530T ATM. The ones for the G530H work fine on the G530T from what I've tested. But, you cant flash zips or even make a backup on those so.. Yeah. Kind of useless in a way. For now, I use flashfire to flash zips but Xposed doesn't seem to flash or want to. I am currently making a custom TW ROM for the G530T that is debloated with some extra goodies. Testing it is kind of hard without a custom recovery. I may get someone to build the latest TWRP for the G530T so I can do some modding on this device, can't guarantee if he will.

Its funny that you say that actually, because in the days after I first made this post I continued my search and was able to find a version of TWRP on xda that works for my SM-G530T, I then used it to flash xposed and everything seems to have gone just fine, the only small hitch is that you can't make nandroid back ups with this version, unfortunately. I was sent this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3190351
Though it does work, you cant make backups and I cant seem to flash roms with it either. I use flashfire to flash roms and such (I built my own thats debloated).

If you would like I can DM you the link to the twrp version since I still can't post links in threads

Hi could I also please get the link??
Thanks

Ok I have it working and can confirm that it crashes on backup. I've made a backup using Online Nandroid Backup apk, and I am wondering if anyone has done the same, and successfully restored from it. Or does the restore bomb out same as the backup?

I have had the same problem CWM/TWRP get's to 90% and dies. I am convinced that there is no custom recovery for the 'T' version. Rooted fine with Kingroot (no init.d support on this rom). I'm also using init.d scripts support from the play store and 3ctoolbox pro to facilitate root until there is a custom rom from cm, hopefully.
