noob question about installing beans build 3

so this is my first android device to please bear with me. i easily installed beans build 1 but now im upgrading to beans build 3.
so far ive wiped data factory reset. wiped the cache. and downloaded the build 3 zip file.
i extracted the zip file. but when i go to upload it to odin its not a md5 file and doesnt let me put it in PDA, its a bunch of folders with files and i dont know what to do from here.
is there anyone that knows what im supposed to do next? am i doing this wrong?
You have to unlock the bootloader first and flash via twrp or cwm. See this thread for additional info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043636. Its official instructions by adamoutler and read the original post plus at the last 10 pages, iff you haave any questions make sure to search the thread twice. Its most likely if this is your first time that someone else has asked it.

You don't extract the file. You should get your bootloader unlocked asap.... so you won't have to deal with Odin in the future.
Build 3 is not an odin file, it must be flashed from a custom recovery.
Thanks for the help guys. After a few problems I got everything sorted out and I'm now running beans build 4 It's awesome

Soft brick help for verizon note 2

Hey guys, I was trying to root my Note 2 and I ran into a problem. I used the method outlined in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207 which uses Odin to install the root66 Odin image. Everything went just fine and I used rootchecker to confirm root. Superuser was good to go. Next I went to install a recovery (CWM) so I could do a backup. I installed ROM manager from google play and installed a custom recovery. When I rebooted into recovery I got a message saying the phone had non authorized software on it and to take it to a verizon store. I did a little searching and found a thread that recommended using Odin to reflash the image. Did that. And got the same thing. Should I restore it to stock image as descriped a little further down in the thread (mentioned above)?
Follow instructions to restore with the LL4 update. Then unlock your boot loader next time before installing cwm.
Also next time post this in the right section (QA). Pretty sure you're not releasing anything. I went ahead and reported this to get it moved

Sorry about posting in the wrong area.
Anyhow, I'm a bit confused. Were exactly are the instructions to restore with the LL4 update?
I tried to restore per the instructions and Odin failed. Not sure what to do next.

I tried that but Odin doesn't recognize the alternate file. How do I flash it?

Extract it before trying to Odin. So right click and choose extract. If it didn't work download 7 zip and use it to extract the file

Ok, got it this time. I didn't realize I had to extract the alternate file first.
I was able to flash the correct file this time and the phone is back up and running.
Thanks a bunch for the help.......I majorly appreciate it!!

help ? some 1 galaxy note 2 sch-i605verizon

hey everybody new to the community i been researching for 2 days now and i'm sure i'm almost close to fixing my problem with my phone (galaxy note 2 sch-i605verizon)
---problem i downloaded this file and i need tot load it up on odin but when i search it on odin its not there help???
Alternate Restore File 4.1.1 VRALJB- This restore file is for folks currently on the latest VRALL4 or VRAMC3 OTA. The Alternate Restore File does not lock bootloader, but will unroot and replace recovery with Android Stock Recovery. To complete the bootloader lock, simply OTA update.
--- did this but when i try to find it in odin it says
I605_VRALJB_Restore.tar.xz is invalid.
<OSM> End...
i need to return this phone to verizon soon! stocked help pllzzzz!!!:good::good::good:

If you are returning the phone, don't bother with all that. Re-lock the bootloader. Then format the internal memory in recovery. will brick the phone.

What exactly is the message? Weird for word? A picture would be even better. If it's the normal this software isn't authorized by VZW message then all you have to do is flash back to stock using Odin. The reason your file wasn't working earlier is because you didn't unzip it, it will be tar.md5 After you unzip it and that's what you flash in Odin.

[Q] Possible Soft Brick

SOLVED Flashing stock with odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2289325
After a couple hours of searching I haven't had any luck fixing what i've mistakenly done to my phone.
I made a new account and am first posting because I am at witts end.
The status of my phone is-
it will not boot.
It hangs at the Samsung Custom screen.
I can only get into download mode.
When I try to boot into recovery the blue text top left says it's booting but it doesn't boot into recovery.
I suspect I corrupted my recovery somehow.
I've tried flashing different kernels with odin and the few that ive tried successfully flash but same thing still happens.
I think I need a CWM recovery or TWRP recovery that I can flash with odin? Is that a thing?
Any point in the right direction would greatly be appreciated.

You can try that I don't know if it'll work in download/odin.
I suggest just flashing the stock update via odin and re root..

Those files do not work with ODIN.
I dont have a stock update file to flash with odin nor have I been able to find any for download.
The mdk stock firmware file is located in the dev section, flashable via odin.

This is the MDK image that will take you back to bone stock, out-of-the-box. Just open ODIN, put the phone in download mode, put this file in PDA only section, and you're golden.

It's nice to have my phone back , I was getting really worried there for a bit..
I had TWRP and CleanRom Running just fine but after a few mods and a reboot it hung on me.
I wonder if anyone is aware of these issues or if I'm just 'special' Hmmm
I really wanted to have a LIGHT TouchWiz rom that I can add mods to myself.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Bricked Note 2 i605

So I tried to root my Note 2 today. I had rooted it once before using Casual this past summer, but due to circumstances i had to get a new one.The replacement came in today, and i tried to root it with the same methods. I believe my mistake was using Casual while i had 4.3 installed on my device. I'm not TERRIBLY android savvy, but i knew enough to know that if i ****ed up i should stop while i'm ahead and ask you guys.
tl;dr
Long story short, while using Casual to root my Note 2 with 4.3 on it, i got this message
ERROR: Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence!ERROR: recovery upload failed!ERROR: Failed to send end session packet!waiting for device
waited for a good 30 minutes, nothing was changing, turned off phone and now it's bricked, looping at the "Samsung Galaxy Note 2" Splash screen.
I believe i have to use Odin for something but i could really use some help and reassurance before i continue.
Needless to say i will be jamming f5 on my thread until everything is resolved!
Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Since i posted this, i tried to flash a stock firmware on Odin (4.1.2 i believe) and it failed halfway through the procedure. with nothing more to be done, i reset my phone, and where before it was just bootlooping, it now shows me an entirely different screen reading "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Since then i have tried a different firmware file, still 4.1.2, Odin get's to the very end of the procedure, and crashes at what i assume is the reboot portion. Desperately need assistance!
You can't flash anything other than 4.3 if you have the 4.3 bootloader.

OH. That makes a lot of sense....
I will try to flash a 4.3 firmware right now. Will i need some sort of .pit file or something to fix the initial bootloop? Or is that problem just totally blown out of the water at this point?

I cant seem to find the file anywhere. Only on terafile via SamMobile, but the download link doesn't seem to work.
What are my options as far as this bootloader go?
Did you look in the general section at the unbricker thread?

I did a bunch of searches on the site as i was f****ing my phone up, systematically. Im really sorry if this thread doesn't go here, i just didn't know who else to ask
YES!
Found the proper 4.3 file, flashed it via Odin. Everything is stock and ready. If anybody wishes to help me root it from here or point me in the right direction that'd be great but other than that, thanks for letting me post here and thanks to those who helped me out!

Currently the only way to root your OTA 4.3 Note 2 is to use saferoot, read this thread carefully

I found myself in the same situation. Where might I find the PIT file? I can't reboot the phone to get the PIT file because it's soft bricked like mzaric's phone was. I'm using Mac OS X so I'm having to use JOdin3 to flash the stock 4.3 firmware back, but without the PIT file I can't continue and I've searched endlessly to find the PIT file. Also a somewhat related question, I heard JOdin isn't good for flashing big files, but I have no alternative, is the stock firmware which is 1.1gb too big to flash?
EDIT: I sadly didn't search hard enough thank you droidstyle for the guide. But my next question is I'm unsure of what version the phone is because when I originally tried to do the CASUAL unlock I believe it was on 4.1.2, but I think it softbricked to begin with because it was 4.3. Should I just try doing the 4.1.2 and if it doesn't take, retry with the 4.3?
If you flashed n7100 firmware you are screwed. If not just Odin back to stock. You were on 4.1.2 if you were unlocked using casual. Don't go to 4.3
