Hey guys,
A friend of mine has done the factory reset from the settings and lost all his photos accidentally. He hasn't backed up any of the data via CWM recovery or on the cloud. Basically he has no option of recovering data except his phone. What I wanted to know is if you do the factory reset is there any possibility of recovering the data.
There are a few undelete apps, could give them a try or failing that you can try connecting the phone up to a laptop/PC and trying to use software like Recuva.
connecting to a pc will not work with the internal sd

Why not? Because of MTP or...?
yes. recuva and the like can only work with UMS

I got a Vibrant as a gift from my relative (he recently bought a Tab), and i can't erase the data (gallery, his gmail account).
I have done everything that i know, from factory reset to wipe data from recovery mode. Well, i even downgrade the firmware to the stock UVJFD, but no matter how hard i try, everytime i restart the phone, the data will always restored. the applications i installed are also gone it's like the phone create some restore point that resets whenever it gets rebooted.
I'm not living in US, so i guess i can't get support from T-mobile
please help.. and excuse me for my bad english ^^
settings>sd & phone storage>unmount phone storage>format will erase everything

i't didn't work the pictures and gmail account is still there
there are 2 storages there ..one says sd card and the other says phone storage ...you unmounted the one under phone storage and hit format??? because there should be like 3 folders left after that..
i unmounted and formatted both the phone and sdcard storage.. to no effect.. flashing new firmware didn't help either..
hmmm.. yep.. beyond me then .. works for me every time so you might need someone with a little more knowledge.
getting hopeless

All you have left then is to root and install a custom rom. That will fix the issue for sure or odin back to stock.
Dialing *2767*3855# will do a hard reset. That may help.

The problem is right there, I even could not do "re-install package" in the recovery mode because all data I kept in the internal sdcard will always be vanished if I reboot the phone,, I tried to mount the internal sdcard in the PC, then format the drive. It can be formatted, but after I rebooted the phone all the previous data come back. That's the problem

This is impossible. The Factory reset only deletes your installed Apps and data BUT no personal data that is stored on the internal sd card. Did you flash a ROM after this? If yes, was it CyanogenMod 10.1 or AOKP?

I used the Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit v7 to download and flash stock ROM since I wanted to go back for a while to test battery life, after it had flashed the stock ROM I checked and all the files was still there but TouchWiz and something else kept crashing so I went to 'Settings -> Back up and reset -> Factory data reset'. After this all files on internal sd are gone. I thought that it didn't delete them or I would have made a backup.
All I'm really bothered about is my Titanium backup files
Well you're outta luck. It warns you beforehand that it wipes all the internal memory... Sorry.

Why all your apps should still be available from the market .
TB backups can be set to EXT SD and also copied to a PC .

I know they're on the market, just takes longer having to download and log back into the apps and some are fairly big games, lost the game saves as well. I wanted the sms messages mainly, never mind, will be more careful next time.

This is why you use external SD for those backups and ALWAYS make a backup.
So I basically formatted sdcard without knowing....
Any posibility to recover old data?

Well, it kinda works...only I cant recover my old photos...but I keep trying, if I can have any luck...
Otherwise, what other solutions are avaliable?
Sorry to sound cliche but have you set up any of Samsungs backup services, or used Dropbox? Your pictures might be uploaded to the server automatically if you did set it up in the first place.

I plug the charger and restart the phone. After a while I saw phone says device memory has corrupted and it will wipe all my data. And after factory reset all my data has gone. The worst is all my files in internal storage has gone. How can ì recover them?
You could download a program that can recover deleted files from thumb drives . I would just google it.

Try Dr fone to recover ur data. Its a software which runs on a pc. Enable USB debugging and connect your phone with pc using a USB cable.
Then open Dr fone, you will see an option to recover data.

Great! I'll try giving it a shot.
BTW, what actually happens (in technical terms) when we wipe a phone? Is it similar when we format a drive where the FAT gets over written and everything is gone?

The data on a storage is accessed via a variable.
When we format a drive, a new variable is declared and is used while the former is made inaccessible and it appears that the data has been deleted.
Nothing ever gets lost on a storage. You can always make the older variable accessible again.

So the same goes for phones? Man, we should never trade in our phones then, it's so easy to retrieve confidential documents especially if you use your phones to access work emails and stuff.
