So I'm not entirely sure there is a thread already on this and apologize if there is, but I'm not seeing an additional file to download when installing custom ROMs which I'm accustomed to with the Galaxy Nexus. Are the GApps baked into the ROMs? Thanks. Or is it because there aren't any (or many I should say) AOSP ROMs?

Gapps are available in each aosp ROMs thread.

Yep. Also they are already included in the TW based so do not flash another one when using these.

Also when flashing Gapps make sure you flash the most recent version.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Right on. I figured they were baked in with the TW roms. Especially since the size is so big.

Would like to get a list of the confirmed working roms with this patch. As they are on 4.1.2 and have much more tweaks, customization etc..

Running the stock root injected rom with the bootloader unlocked myself.
works great.
I've seen a few out there that offer options I don't need right now so haven't bothered to flash any of them.
I want to know if anyone is running Omega rom with a patch?

Is there a patch that's flashed after or alongside flashing the ROM? I ask because I know CleanRom 3.5 for VZW is based off of the N7105XXDLL1 international version.
I'm using the patch with some pieces and parts from various aosp roms with jellybeer. Everything works. Still working on th flash camera issue. Oh yeah, build.prop tweaks too.

I've been looking around for the aforementioned patch, i know I've seen it somewhere but I must be missing it because I'm an idiot. Does anyone have a link?
Has anyone tried this with the vzw patch?

I looked but didn't really see any in the development thread that were straight up stock (or minimal tweaks). I'm coming from my Gnex and I'm looking for something similar to mmuzzy's Rom for that phone. Anything extremely stable and not TW? Thanks!

I'm coming from the same device and I think that you will really like Beanstalk. I've tried Many of the TW and AOSP roms and found this to be the best for my taste. If/when you flash be sure to use the latest signed gapps from goo.im.
Using the ones from the thread caused me update issues from the Google play store for some reason.

Hey guys, just some things I've been curious about lately. I just updated to MI1 and rooted it. Is there any way to download safestrap and install custom ROMS such as CM 10.1? Can maybe give me the link to a YouTube video showing me how to flash roms with safestrap? Someone please confirm (or deny) affirmatively whether or not I can flash specifically CM and if not, what about any other ROM? I would probably prefer the stock 4.3 ROM over anything

you can not use cm roms or any 4.3 has to be 4.2
But 10.1 is 4.2.2
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can only use stock kernel with safe strap and cm has there own kernel so it won't work
What about AOKP or the stock 4.3 ROM?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
TW only. Stock kernel only.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Are there any AOSP based ROMS that allow use of the stock kernel? If not, are there plans to show custom kernels in SS?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is impossible for an AOSP rom to be based on the stock kernel. There is a list of safestrap compatible roms in the general section, I would suggest Eclipse as it has AOSP styling.
Kexec support is being worked on which will enable custom kernels, but its going to take a long time.

Why is it that I could flash with MDK and not with newer versions? Something with kernels?

That's because the bootloader in the S4 is locked, and will not boot an unsigned recovery (i.e. an official one from Samsung.)
There's a bug in the MDK bootloader that allows bypassing that check, which allows a custom recovery to be installed and booted.
That custom recovery then allows you to install whatever ROM you like.
Releases after MDK have that bug fixed so there's no way to use a custom recovery. Safestrap allows you to start a custom recovery by using the standard kernel to get Safestrap loaded and started up. Since it's not running on the bare metal of the phone, Safestrap can't overwrite the bootloader or kernel, so you can only use ROMs that work with the standard kernel.
Eventually, if kexec gets working, Safestrap will be able to host nonstandard kernels, making many more ROMs possible.
That is sweet because I really want to try CM or AOKP. I will probably like AOKP better but who knows. Can I expect this update allowing for custom kernels soon?

Who knows? That's why I said "if kexec gets going". If the devs can't figure out how to boot a custom kernel, Touchwiz-based ROMs are it.
Oh okay. Thanks a lot though hopefully kexec does get going cause I'm not a big fan at all of touchwhkz

Since this Rom will be dual booted (my main touchwiz primary Rom and this secondary AOSP rom), I want to find a fun AOSP Rom to mess around with. Can anyone suggest a 4.4. (Kitkat) rom that is packed with features in it. I remember hearing some rooms have multi window support? Anything like that would be awesome.

Because of what the guy above stated, you need to try out ROMs for yourself to figure out what is best for YOU, also there have been many many threads asking this exact thing and they always get locked. I'll give you one option for aosp.......Vanir ROM.

Then it's really not "running" is it?
As off now, it's not possible to run AOSP roms with Safestrap.

Riker, If you actually looked at the ROM you will see that it is not AOSP. It is themed very well. C'mon man!

Did you flash the proper kernel package afterwards? The kernel packages Hashcode provides contain the modules needed for data to work. Even if the installer installs a stock kernel itself, you need this special SafeStrap-compatible kernel in order for it to work.
Head over here to get it, then flash it in SS and reboot.
