I would like to disable the startup sound, but I am unable to locate the file on my rooted sgp 5
All you have to do is put your player on vibration... No sounds will be made then

i believe that the sounds are located under /system/media/sounds
located under system/etc or system/media/sounds

Hey guys, I used to have a couple of custom Ringtones placed in the external sd card under media/audio/ringtones.
I don't really know what I had changed recently, but suddenly, they are gone from the list of available notification tones. I gave tried moving it to the similar folder in the internal sd card to no avail. The ringtones are in mp3 format.
Am currently running CheckROM 3.1.1 with speedmod kernel k18 test 11.
Please help.

Does the folder containing the ringtones also contain a file named ".nomedia"? Android media scanner skips all files in folders that contain a file with that name.
Nope. But I realised that the "facebook pop" notification is recognised and it is in m4a format. Could it be that mp3 is suddenly not supported as a notification format anymore?

Should be recognized. I have several .mp3 format ringtones. Does the containing folder have a period at these beginning of its name?
EDIT: wait - are they ringtones or notifications? If they're not in media/audio/notifications, then they won't show up in your list of notification sounds.

Edit: Cyanogenmod's profiles seemed to be corrupt. Making a new profile & selecting it fixed the problem.
So my phone has been fine, up until now. Whenever I restart my phone running CM9 my notification and ring tone sounds get reset to 'unknown ring tone'.
I'm on the latest nightly build, is there a fix? Thanks.

Does nobody know? I've flashed a Samsung based ROM and the music player fails to find any music or folders. Maybe the SD card isn't named correctly?

Thanks. Tried all 3 solutions and none worked, ringtones still reset, the gallery is still empty, and so is the music player.

Use a file explorer/manager to to check if your media folders are still there.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Hi I got my new HTC one x plus the other day and I used an app to download songs from YouTube now I've had to use a file manager app to locatethem but how do i get them to show up in on the phones music app ? I've looked for the folder to put them into but can't see the songs that came with the phone as standard. Any help appreciated. Oh its not rooted as well and don't intend doing so.
Any folder in /data/media/ will do, the device will scan for audio, as long as it's a supported file type.

I will try that now

These are mp3 files and I've tried to move but in side data there's no other folder or files and won't move. Do I put on just phone or keep on the sdcard?

Maybe you can't get there via /data/ if your unrooted. Try /mnt/sdcard/

Another 'tard question.
Running SnowJB, and created a custom mpga to use as a ringtone.
Cannot find the solution on how to set it as my ringer for the life of me...
Just put audio files in /sdcard /media/audio/ringtones and reboot to kick the media scanner in.

You should be able to just use an app to rescan the sdcard instead of rebooting.
THIS for example. There is a non-root version too.
Hello everybody!
Does anybody knows how to install a new bootsound?
Links to some are welcome
Thanks to all

You know you have to be rooted to do this right? Good.
To do this go to /system/media/audio/ui and replace the file named PowerOn.ogg with the sound you want. Off course it has to be converted to .ogg format. Adjust permissions and that is it.
Backup up original sound first

I found something about replacing ringtones that you might find interesting. I was able to add a ringtone (that is a .mp3 file) without converting it to a ogg file and it worked fine.
