I have an Evo 3d with Virgin Mobile and I desperately want CyanogenMod 10.1
I am rooted, s-off, unlocked, and on hboot 1.57. To flash CM 10.1, you must be on an hboot version lower than 1.57. Is there a way to downgrade my hboot without reverting to s-on? because every link I find warns that you must be s-on, or you will irreversibly brick your phone.
I tried putting the PG86IMG.zip file with hboot 1.40 on my sd card and rebooting into bootloader, but I get an error message (see attached picture)
Please help, and Thank you in advance.

I'm on Sprint and by all means I'm no expert. I followed ramjet73's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
and was able to switch between hboot's version. Download QADERSO-V2-VM.zip and unpack to C drive. Install HTCDriver3.0.0.007 then open command prompt and do "cd C:\QADERSO\Root"
Then follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32259533&postcount=60

Thanks for the reply. I tried that method too and it didn't give me an error message, but when I booted into bootloader it still showed 1.57. Do you remember if you were locked when you downgraded? I think I read somewhere that you had to be but I don't really want to try it because relocking my phone will wipe everything.
And thanks again

I'm not sure where you got the hboot you are trying to flash but it looks like it's only setup for the Sprint CID and not Virgin Mobile.
Since you are already S-OFF you can follow the procedure in this guide and the hboots linked from that post are setup for both Sprint and VM CID's.

After a while of having to use the flash image gui app, it gets pretty annoying not being able to use Nandroid backups. That is why i am trying to downgrade myself.
Makes sense. Then check out the link vdubtx posted.

You can root, but you also forfeit your warranty to HTC by doing HTC Unlock, that code that you use to unlock it, gives them your device info, including serial number and when you bring it to sprint for repair, they can just look it up and see that you've rooted and voided your warranty.
Any files will work what is the latest 1
none of the RUU working do I have to format my SD card and I am trying to downgrade back to 1.40 which RUU file is i am clueless please help thanks I want S-off

I have an Evo 3d with HBOOT 1.5 and S-OFF. I want to get to 1.4 S-OFF but I can't find how I can set S-OFF back to S-ON, so I can proceed with the downgrade instructions located here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547695
Search and google are not helping too much as there is too much noise talking about getting to s-off and not trying to get to s-on.
Can you please point me toward a solution to change from HBOOT 1.5 S-OFF to HBOOT 1.5 S-ON?
Thank you.

You can brick your device!
Forgive my ignorance, but if you are s-off, why would you want to do this? I thought 1.5 s-off was just as good as1.4 s-off.
Sent from my PG86100
When set at 1.5 you cant change the splash screen or radio. or other settings.
Also Bricking it is what I need to do to convert it to 1.4 BUT I cant to that until I have S-ON. Correct?
You are s-off so no need to brick, just download this copy it to sd card and flash via bootloader.
Also I could be mistaken, but I believe hboot 1.5 is perfectly ok as long as you are S-off, I am pretty sure you can flash whatever you want.
BTW the download link is taken from OP in this thread, you might want to read through it.

^Exactly this. If you read the first post of that thread (especially the gigantic red letters and what is under that), it will tell you to NOT brick an S-off phone as it will permanently brick it. You just need to flash the 1.4 bootloader.

i had the same problem as OP. i think the issue with 1.5 is even though its s-off, the bootloader is still locked and therefore a recovery cant be flashed and root cant be gained.
Ive been looking for the standalone hboot 1.4 ruu so i didnt have to do what op originally suggested
You have all of my thanks

Ya I didn't even think about revolutionary only working with 1.4 or below that must be the problem. You are welcome for the help, I just figured most of this out about a week ago when I had to do the downgrade after unlocking with htc method.
I would fastboot oem lock then do HTC's unlock again.

You have to HTC Unlock the device first, then do the fastboot oem lock (if you don't it will say "Device was already locked!" message)

If you are S-OFF you can flash any bootloader you want...no need to go back to S-on....I found a few bootloader versions on here and flashed them back and forth when trying different roms.....once your S-OFF you should never return...lol
I was thinking of taking it to Sprint for a replacement cuz of 4G not working, but then I thought, WHEN ON EARTH do I use 4G??? LOL It's always off...
Well first of all I will say that I am running a CDMA EVO3D with HBOOT 1.58 and S-ON.
Now with that out of the way, I will explain myself. After rooting my phone after the ICS update, i installed some ROMs and encountered some problems. After researching what the problem was I had managed to keep S-ON and that is why some of the features were broke. Then after doing more research I decided that it would be best to go back to stock and redo everything. So right now I have relocked my phone and am still running a custom ICS ROM. I have tried numerous RUU attempts and I always get the ERROR [140]: Bootloader Version Error after it try's "Sending/Updating Signature". So what in the world do I do next
Which RUU are trying to flash and where did you get it?

That's a GB RUU and you are on the Sprint ICS build now so it won't let you downgrade with S-ON. You can get S-OFF if you need to flash GB for some reason, or use this Sprint ICS RUU instead.

I kind of lost track of where things stand now. Could you please supply the following information:
1. The heading information (top 3 lines) from your bootloader
2. The RUU you are currently trying to flash and where you got it
3. How you are flashing the RUU and when you get the error
The 132 error is a signature problem that is usually caused by an unlocked bootloader and I don't understand how you are getting it unless the RUU you are flashing is corrupted.
You could try downloading the RUU.exe from here and make sure the MD5 matches.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but this is the first three lines:
SHOOTER XC SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT=1.58.000
RADIO-1.09.00.0706
The RUU that I tried was the one you recommended in the comments and then how I am doing it is having USB Debuging on while in fastboot usb then running the RUU
How did you fix this?

Hi I've search all the threads for directions on how to downgrade to hboot 1.5. I would like to know how to do that, as well as a link to the actual bootloader download. I want to run a stock jelly bean rom (CM10) on my Evo 3D but my current settings won't allow it. Are there any other roms that would work with my settings or do I need to downgrade my bootloader? Any advice will help

You need to downgrade your hboot but since you're s-off, it's easy. Download one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30014044
Rename to PG86IMG.zip and place on root of SD card. Boot into bootloader and flash it. Delete the file from the card (I use my computer) then boot into recovery and flash cm10.

Thanks for the link, do I need to download the regular Hboot 1.50 or the JBear 1.50?...I'm new at this so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Were you ever able to get this to work? I was trying to the same thing for a buddy at work, but I got into boot loops with anything other than Jbear 1.58
I recently bought my new Evo 3D from eBay. As far as I can tell, it is in perfect shape. I was hoping to flash it to Page Plus and was dismayed when I realized how impossible the rooting process looked. I began with downgrading my 1.58 HBOOT to 1.40. Now I am attempting to flash the 1.13 RUU so I can finally move on in this process, but every time I attempt to flash it (or any other RUU), I get the error, "Error [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR." Now most fastboot commands do not work, and my phone bootloops with the stock ROM. Any idea how to fix it?
I used the juopunut bear wire trick for s-off so excuse me if I'm a little ignorant here with the downgrade method. Once you are down to hboot 1.40 (which sounds like you were successful with) can't you use the revolutionary s-off tool?
Once s-off you can easily run any ruu but I guess I don't understand why you need to downgrade even further to s-off, when revolutionary (I thought) works with hboot 1.40 and 1.30

As I understand I can't use Revolutionary without booting into Android (since it needs ADB), which is currently impossible because of the bootloop.
I should also point out that HTCDev unlock fails for me. On hboot 1.58 the fastboot commands are successful, but I am never presented with the unlock dialog on the phone. On hboot 1.4 most fastboot commands fail. Also, I can easily restore to stock by flashing a PG86IMG which includes hboot 1.58.

So far, in every case I've seen, running the latest RUU has solved the bootloader unlock issue for people. I would run the 1.58 RUU and see if you can unlock the bootloader. Then go from there.
Or as I saw mentioned in the other thread, use the PG86IMG version of the RUU or extract it yourself from the exe. Flashing through the bootloader does not perform a cid check.

If I remember correctly, the HTCDev unlock doesnt work for the earlier bootloaders. It says so on the very first page when its walking you through the steps. I could be wrong but you may wanna keep that in mind
