Which rom has got the best ram? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys!
No, it's not the typical "Which is the best rom?" question. I just want to know, which rom has got the most free ram without any downloaded apps?
I want to have a second rom next to resurrection remix for longer time period without charging, so I didn't want to try out all of the roms, maybe you could advice me some roms.
Thanks

Without any downloaded apps?
So im running RootBox now since a long times and it's pretty good, even with Ram. But I can't say how it will feel without any apps, but I think even more better then, so try this

Android doesn't like free RAM, they despice it.
GB use less RAM than ICS, and ICS use less RAM than Jelly Bean.

What's a good 2nd ROM?

I'm planning in dual booting, cm9 and a 2nd ROM that doesn't use much battery, what's a good 2nd ROM that will provide the most battery? Greets.

I'm not asking for a 'best' ROM. I'm asking which would be beneficial as a 2nd choice for emergencies, etc.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Not that different asking for a good for battery/best/etc rom. Different kernels and roms work differently on each phone, so just try them out to see which is best. For example, neak kernel is an excellent kernel recommended by a lot of people, but it really drains my battery faster compared to others.

Any, it really doesn't make a lot of difference if you want a ROM "for emergencies" as you say.
You can force the screen to the lowest brightness, throttle the CPU, use a plain black colour wallpaper and not install any apps at all on any ROM.
Btw, thread reported. No matter how you try and disguise it, it's still yet another fail thread from you. It's getting old pretty quickly.

Hydrog3n-ICS is probably one of the best Roms out there for the Galaxy S2.
It is a mixture of Cyanogen and AOKP which is pretty sick.
Its absoloutly smooth, has great features and treats your battery with care.

Theres the link if you want to have a look at it, also it is constantly being updated with nightly builds being created.
Have a try..
This just looks like a "what's the best ROM" thread to my trained eye

Looking to update ROM help?

Hi i currently have Cyanogenmod version: 9-20120725-NIGHTLY-galaxys2 which is Android Version 4.0.4.
i want to update to a Newer Cyanogenmod Version or a New ROM, any suggestions?
i just need it to take pictures use whatsapp, phonecalls and internet.
Thanks in advance.
Well, there is a stable version of CM9, and a nightly after that stable version with a few more fixes I believe. Otherwise, try resurrection remix, slim ics, etc.

Thanks for the prompt reply!
It's dressed up differently, but if you break it down, it's still basically asking this question.

I use CM10 as my daily driver. It's usable and better than CM9 in my opinion. BTW, I still don't get your problem. What feature are you exactly looking for?

All three are fine. CM10, being based on Jellybean is the newest, with really few bugs (which will hopefully get fixed once Samsung released Jellybean for the S2). Try CM10, otherwise go back to CM9. Make sure to do a nandroid backup of CM9 before moving on, so that if you feel CM9 is better, you don't have to go through setting it up all again.
This thread is becoming more of a "what's the best ROM?" type which is discouraged. You need to check these things yourself as preferences differ from user to user and handset to handset.

I get what you're asking but why not just dual boot ICS and Jelly bean? If you're concerned about stability you won't have any issues with ICS if you're running a decent Rom. Just my opinion.

I disagree if you find a good ICS rom ICS is much better then GB There is just no comparison between the 2 with the right rom it can run just as smooth as GB but with some added features that really come in handy

The extra features are the only reason I am on ICS. I am running SHOstock2, which IMO is probably the best ICS rom, but it is still a bit buggier than GB. As with the OP, once there is a stable JB rom, I would love to dual boot GB and Jellybean.

If the ICS is buggie to you now, then you would expect a very very very long time to get a "stable, buggie-free" JB ROM.

Surprised this thread is still going, isn't the below still accurate (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24724563&postcount=3296):
"20) Can i have one GB rom and second ICS rom?
A. No
21) Why?
A. Kernel partition is shared between roms. Dual boot functionality is implemented in ICS kernel. ICS kernel can run only ICS roms."
If GB and ICS didn't work, I don't see why JB and GB would suddenly work.

[Q] recommended rom ?

Hi all,
Have a question re rom in galaxy s3 (uk).
My girlfriend has been using it for a while now and there are some issues like disconnecting with wifi and drains battery realy fast, to save juice wifi needs to be off and phone put in save battery mode and you have to do that each time you put away ur phone...
I have android tablet with custom ram from team EOS and the device is much more better that before (faster! No adds! With different cpu usage profiles to save battery! ...) so my question is what ram would you recommend for galaxy3 ?
Thanks!
Good Luck!
Android 4.3 (pizza sandwich) is the best

Anyways, if you dont have time, look for roms with most views and replies for starters
I would also like to remind you, that OMG I WANT DUH BEST ROMZ threads are not allowed and end up closed
The fact that you don't have time to do any research won't change XDA rules, and it should be a warning to your friends that if you don't have time to do the research you won't have the time to sort out the problems you will inevitably encounter when you mess up

There is no best absolute Rom that's why those threads are forbidden, to avoid countless trolls and fan battles. You must determine if you want Sammy or not Sammy based Rom, and then pick up one considering the description in op.
use Omega 33.3 Rom if you want a touchwiz based rom. Its tweaked for performance and very stable with the latest additions of Android 4.2 and Note II features..
For a pure Nexus feel use Cyanogenmod 10
For modified Nexus Feels ParanoidAndroid
These three are my favorites

Sammy roms vs aosp speed

Hi guys just wondering is there any way to make pure Samsung roms as fast as aosp roms are such as cm 10.1 because even when I've frozen all the bloatware on any Sammy based rom it never seems to be anywhere near as fast or as smooth as a aosp rom, any ideas guys to get this kind of speed?

Also I think it could be something to do with the kernel on cm roms cause at the moment I'm using sotmax v 15 with latest perseus and I even have it OCed to 1.ghz and yet it still lags and stutters especially when opening apps and recent apps menu. What the hell could it be, I'm sure stock rom can't be like this otherwise no one would buy galaxy s 3..?

Well I certainly don't have lag opening apps, lag does appear after I've installed a few new apps or app updates but thats a rare and my recent apps menu is smooth.
The issue is not very related to the kernel, imho, because I tried dual booting with Siyah kernel between Sammy rom and CM10.1, and with CM rom I felt everything WAY more smooth, also in terms of free memory and multitasking:
I use Titanium very frequently, and with Samsung roms 90% of the time when I open it (even after a quick app switch) it has to reload the app list (because it was killed), while on CM10 it remains in memory much more, even with the same installed apps on both ROMs...
I disabled around 50 system apps in the samsung rom, still not enough to free the memory.
Yeah but I don't understand what is on cyanogen mod that makes it so much faster and what is on Samsung roms that is slowing them down so much?

please, me too.
also other thing i read people are doing is using another launcher, like nova launcher. for me changing the kernel did the difference, i use boeffla kernel now.
Samsung stock roms are bloated as hell whereas CyanogenMod is pure aosp with just basic android system and important components to run it smoothly. Also CM feels more smoother because of various system tweaks and performance optimizations by the awesome devs whereas the samsung roms don't even implement the very basic of Google's Project Butter.
I've used Omega rom and damn that was fast for a stock rom. It is tweaked very well, I suggest you try that out too. I use Omega and CM dual boot with Siyah kernel. Curretly i'm only running Cm10.1 coz Siyah kernel hasn't been updated to support dual booting of jb 4.2.2
Is there not a way to strip samsung roms down so they're as fast as cm by removing all the crap you're talking about?

Most roms like the Omega rom remove unecessary bloatware. But the basic issue lies within the touchwiz design itself. The sammy rom is entirely a resource hog and the system is basically bloated with unecessary crap.
The most you could do at a user level is to remove useless apps, disabling unused services and most of all NOT use Touchwiz.. Instead use something like Nova launcher which gives you a more stock feel and is relatively low on system resources.
Personally I'll mention that Omega rom is pretty smooth when it comes to overall system performance. But again its just a modified version of the crap sammy rom.
PS: If you hate the fact that normal system apps like the dialer and call log take way too long to load on ur sammy rom..Use exDialer and exContacts.. A very very good alternative to the native apps..Loads extremely fast and has waaay better UI than sammy.
My primary rom is CM 10.1 for obvious reasons. But I'll keep Sammy rom on dual boot until they fix the Camera issue with AOSP based roms..
I think I'm genuinely going to consider just switching to aosp because it's just pissing me off how much slower it is the only thing keeping me from switching is probably the battery life and the crappy camera you get on aosp roms.. But to me it doesn't look there's a way to fix the ****ty Samsung roms and I don't understsnd how they are getting away with shipping this crappy bloatwiz on probably the best phone out at the moment..
