(Q) How do I stop my phone from auto closing apps? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note LTE and this phone is really getting on my nerves. Sometimes I am using an app halfway and it suddenly auto-close for absolutely no reason. Just to note, it's running on Android 4.0.4 ICS.
Maybe I should have bought an GS3 or something else other than this garbage.

This is a very strange behavior, indeed. What do you mean by using an app halfway?
Maybe you should do a factory reset, with a nandroid backup first....

Uninstall the apps which would force close suddenly.

I meant that I was like playing a game and in the middle of a race, it suddenly auto close.
Sometimes even Google Chrome and the default browser would auto close. Restarting my device would be a temporary fix and it would auto close again once it's 'overloaded'. Currently, I tried putting the maximum background running apps at 4. Still observing whether it works or not.

Have you tried clearing the Cache of your device?

How do I do that?
Sent from my GT-N7005 using xda premium

Since you are in ics, you won't have the option available by default.. So I suggest you to use some third party apps for this.. You can try app2sd available in android market.. Even though the main purpose of this app is not clearing cache, you have the option to do this.. Have a try..

You can use apps Memorry booter.

Thanks a lot. Does this actually prevents any auto closing in future?
Isn't that the same as task killer apps?

Thanks for that suggestion. Currently, I am using it and keeping my fingers crossed that nothing screws up.

Can't back out of App Drawer

For some (extremely annoying) reason, I can't use the back button to get out of the App Drawer, and it's EXTREMELY frustrating. It's only just started playing up and was fine yesterday. Is there a fix? Cheers.

XDA App eating battery when running in background?

I've noticed that my XDA app on the Galaxy S3 (ATT) is eating up alot of battery. Ate almost 40 minutes of CPU. One time when I went into task mananger, it showed high CPU usage and I wasn't even using it for a while (so it was idle). I also noticed this with the Engadget app.
Anyone notice anything similar? Just seems like they should be sleeping and not using CPU in the background...
Try reinstalling them. I haven't had this problem with either :/
See attached. My screen has been on about an hour and xda for 50 min.

And this is it just running in the background.

All I can think of is to reinstall. It shouldn't be doing this obviously
I've uninstalled and reinstalled before those screenshots.

Well no idea then, sorry. You could force stop them when you aren't using them.

i'm having the same issue. att sgs3 completely stock never flashed rooted or odined. my phone also seems to stutter and lag a bit more than i was lead to believe it would but i really only started to notice it after installing xda.
i have been using the xda app quite a bit today but an app doubling the screen in battery drain just seems wrong.
xda app cpu times:
total: 2h30m
foreground: 55m
i'm thinking about flashing the stock firmware odin package....... but i'm also thinking about trading in my blue for a white and i think the obvious lag stutter problem might help me avoid restocking fees.
oh what to do?
so no one else is having this problem? just us two?
I'm having this problem as well. I had 90% when I went to bed. 6 hours or so later when I woke up I had 50% left :/

I have also been having this problem since my s2. You can see in the task manager its running about 10 pct in the background. Never found a way to stop this apart from manually closing the app in its settings or force close.
I have been having the exact same issue with my XDA app. It just sucks the battery, using 20-35% on average. This is very odd as I have never had a problem with the xda app before. This is an app issue, hopefully they will update this.

I also have this problem. I've been manually fcing the app. I assumed it was due to the app trying to serve adds. But I don't really know

Guys, I've had a little better luck...at least its not killing the CPU total (was above 20% before on idle). I've disabled notifications in the settings and I've also disabled the 2 listeners using AutoRun manager.
Does anyone here who is experiencing xda app battery drain have a rooted device with an ad blocker? I have never had this issue with the xda app and the only thing that has changed other than the phone is not being rooted /ad free. My guess is ads are somehow causing this problem.

I am having the same issue, however it started happening after the latest update to facebook itself. I think this is where the issue lies......

I don't know what phone you're running but I'm on a custom jellybean ROM on my phone and haven't had any problems .
First thing to try would be to clear data for the Facebook app in settings and see if that doesn't fix it. If not try to completely uninstall and reinstall it.
If Facebook is the only thing that's force closing then I see no reason why the jellybean update is really to blame. But if the above options don't work you can always try reverting to ICS and installing jellybean again.

I was on the latest stock ics Rom then used the ota jellybean update that's available on here.
Getting all sorts of phone misshaps, keeps buzzing and force closing on stuff, noticed it most on facebook but has also happened on music player also. Have also been noticing that when I come out of apps that the homescreen is slow to reload and looks like it's refreshing. I'm using stock launcher.

Try the new ota jb leak and see

Is that not What I have having done the ota?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I think that these problems are related to the last update of Facebook app. My phone is running ICS, and also have intempestive FC.

Yes you have jelly bean. But just like flashing a ROM from scratch without wiping the system first, you can run into issues flashing an ota. A clean install is the best thing if you're having system wide issues.

Multitasking

Hello guys.
Since i got my S3, i noticed that the multirasking sucks big time, compared to a friends 4.0.3 S2. He can open 3-4 games at the same time and facebook for example, and all application remain loaded after switching between them. But if i play GTA3, and i press Home, read and email, and the game restarts... lol ? Its like im having my GS1 again. When i exit an app sometimes, the launcher restarts.... give me some advice. I have delete the bloatware. Im on LG8 rooted with stock kernel.

Heard latest Jellybean leaked (LH9) has improved multitasking issue. Suggest you wait for JB official update.

How to help force closes

Settings-developer-options-advanced-background process limit. Set this to none or up to 4. The lower, the more free ram you will maintain. This does not survive a reboot. So you must do it again each time you reboot your phone.
This makes your phone extremely fast. You'll notice soon as you own the app drawer. Lightning fast.

You can't multi task If your app force closes though. You have to be able to use it first.

Does this phone multi task? That's been a problem since it fell out of the box. And with jb it got worse
