I have been scouring the internet and various forums for an answer to this issue. I have been having some serious MMS compression on all of the AOSP ROMs I have used, namely Orca, LiquidSmooth and Carbon. This stands for any SMS app I use as well, even GO SMS where you can disable MMS compression and such. Is this a common issue, or is there perhaps something up with my phone and/or data connection? Any help on the subject would be appreciated, as sending screenshots make them illegible and pictures just look really pixelated and bad, it's quite annoying. Thanks in advance!
In go sms... Did you do into mms settings and check preserve image resolution? My images were horrible as well until I changed that. If it is not checked, go sms will resize it automatically.

Yeah, I have that checked, it still makes the images all blurry and grainy. I'm not sure what the issue is here. I may flash it back to stock and see if the problem persists there. I was just thinking maybe there is an issue with the AOSP SMS apps on the Note 2 or something, but no one seems to be having any issues with this as far as I can tell, as I haven't really been getting feedback. It may just be an isolated issue with me.
only other setting i can think of is in MMS setting (go sms)...changing the Maximum MMS size. i have mine set to 1.2M and can send screen shots with no issue.

Yeah, I've tried that already as well. I even changed it to the largest size possible in the Go SMS settings. Not sure what the problem is.
Edit: I do notice you are using Jelly Beans ROM. Are you using the AOSP SMS app as stock or the TW SMS app? Because as I stated before, I think it may be related to the AOSP SMS app on the Note 2 for some odd reason. I realize you are using GO as your SMS app, but what do you have installed as stock?
VZW will resize the image on the network side. You could send a 10MP image, but it would still arrive tiny on the other end. Don't think there is really anything you can do about it either.
I am on jelly Bean's Rom right now but was on asop prior and worked fine

Well I never had compression issues like this with my GNex at all. I'm at a loss ha ha.
Well, Messaging will compress the image to adhere to VZW's network side restrictions. You could change it so that messaging sends the full image, the AFAIK, the recipient still gets a crappy small image if it is oversized.

Hey everyone, currently running AOKP's newest rom and I noticed I am again having the issue where multiple pictures in one MMS are viewing as a slideshow and not as individual pictures.
In the past (and based on my searching) it appears some ROMs have fixed this issue, but all the ones I could find were about 6 months to a year old. I am weary of flashing any of these as since the phone is now running ICS instead of GB, I don't want to mess anything up.
So, anyone know of a fix, or if an older version of mms.apk will work on ICS?
I'm hoping this is just something no one knows and I didn't ask a retarded question

I'm pretty sure that's a "feature" of the stock mms.apk. It was like that on stock GB too, and still is on stock ICS (the leaks and stock I9100 TW-ified ICS). Coming from an iPhone, it annoyed me too at first, but I got used to it eventually.
Uhhhh,
On my device running AOKP, I have multiple pictures received in one MMS conversation and when I tap on it to open, it opens just one, that one I tapped, not a slideshow. Don't know what happen to you.

When you say mms conversation are you referring to a single mms message with multiple pictures or a thread with multiple pictures? I ask because there's a difference.
With an iPhone you can include multiple pictures in a single mms. That shows as a slide show for me. If someone sends a single picture it shows like normal. 3 pictures in 3 separate mms show as normal too.

In bold, I meant the latter.
Anyway, with AOKP, I can't attach multiple "picture" in the same single mms but I can add a slideshow, which allows me to add more than one picture.
Again, it's on my Tx end, I don't know how the Rx end looks.
I've been looking for the same thing to remove the slideshow but no luck. Eventually gave up and went to Go SMS pro and have never looked back. Love every service of it and it doesn't display multiple photos as a slide show

So I have a slight issue with CM9 and the MMS.apk (it also exists in AOKP.) When I send a text that spans multiple texts, it splits them up. So if I send a message that is more than 160 characters, it will automatically split them into 2. I checked the settings and the option to split texts is turned off.
For those more technically minded, the term is called Concatenated SMS. Not sure if we just have to wait for it to be updated and fixed or if it's something else going on there. Granted, if someone can check if this issue exists on the International version, that would be great.
I believe there is a setting in the sms app itself that allows you to convert long text messages into mms so they won't split.

Right, but I shouldn't have to convert it to MMS for that. The true Stock software (that Samsung comes with) doesn't have this issue. Nor does any other phone, it splits it and rejoins it, but behind the scenes. MMS also drains more power since it has to initiate a data connection whereas SMS sends with the typical tower checkins.

what does "true" stock software have to do with AOKP??? if you want stock software. run stock.

It doesn't, I prefer closer to AOSP/AOKP, when I meantion "True" stock I mean Samsung Stock. Samsung Stock Messaging does support Concatenated SMS whereas AOSP/AOKP do not right now.
Dude, it's actually a smart thing for it to do that. I used to send msgs to my friends phone and they had to be partitioned BC he was using an archaic phone. I'm glad it does this. You should be thanking them. What's it hurting anyways?

They are partitioned when they send. The difference is on phones that support rejoining the text they get rejoined. It's a visual issue plus the texts send out split 2-3 seconds apart. If I force it to MMS it hurts my battery since data uses more power than SMS.

I would like to know how to send a full sized MMS on sprint's network. Even if I install a rom that can send up to 5M, I notice the receiver always gets something along the lines of 200kb. I have tried both GoSMS and Handcent to send pictures, and neither work even when put at full size in options. So far the only way I've acheived this is to use Handcent's personal network, upload the picture there, then send someone the link to which they download from. Now this is rather inconvenient, as some of my friends don't have smartphones yet, so it's hard for them to view the file. I''d also prefer to not email pictures, as it's just very slow and difficult. Can anyone explain how to fix this? Thank you
I guess nobody knows...
Try this work around I posted elsewhere and it's helped a few people......
Add a random pic to the message (it will probably be a small file like you say), then add the picture you actually want to send (should be way bigger according to message size number, ie: goes from 200kb to 1375kb etc). Now long press on the first pic and remove it.....you SHOULD be left with the second pic and the size should be the original size of the pic 1375-200=1175kb.
Let me know if that works.

Hmm it didn't work... Also, cm10.1 doesnt allow me to attatch more than one picture for some reason. I can either send, remove, or replace
Ooooh, yea cm10 I'm not familiar with. I'm sorry, I'm on sense 5 atm...that workaround works for sense 4+.....in sense 5 the pics send full size off the bat with no issues...

All the AOSP roms seem to play funny with mms. I couldn't find a solution and tried quite a few things. Sense Rom was my solution.
I'd like to know if anyone else gets a text about the receiver having a size limit and your mms not going through?

Is that what it is? I guess that makes sense. Most people I know are on Verizon.
Is there a way to raise the MMS size to greater than a meg? Running just a rooted stock rom at the moment using the default kernel...it's annoying because even with third party SMS apps like textra it seems to still cap mms messages off at a 1 mb. Is there any way to raise this? Friends on at&t who have the iphone can send much larger pics than this so I don't see why the One is limited....
Pretty sure that's a network restricted thing at that point

It is. AT&T limit is around 1MB. I tested by setting Textra MMS size to 'no limit'; a .99MB pic send fine, but 1.15MB pic fails to send.
Install 'sense5 Toolbox' if your rooted. Let's you raise the mms size no problems..

I thought so too, but my friend sends larger than 1 mb files with the iphone 5s so I thought maybe it was a phone limitation

I grabbed that, says I need "Xposed" and that it's available in teh ARHD installer....plus I went in to Messaging Mods and all I saw was "Raise your MMS size to 300K, 600K, or 1000K".
Hello all...my question is if anyone knows of a mod available to boost the maximum size of MMS or change the amount that photos are compressed? I have many friends who notice my pictures look like garbage when I send it to them via MMS. Especially when zooming in on the photo. I have compared side by side and it's not the 4 MP camera, it's definitely the compression. I checked in my settings and i have the maximum size available selected.
I am running skyfall ROM by iBastid, s-off, rooted with elemental 0.18 sense kernel.
Thanks All for any suggestions on how to get some better MMS quality!
I don't have an answer for you in regards to the stock messaging app but all I can recommend to you is to use Google Hangouts for MMS.

I tried using the hangouts app is well and I had no success with it as far as changing the compression of pictures.

FYI, this doesn't solve your problem. It just raises the max size, but the Messaging app still compresses down to ridiculous amounts. You might have noticed, before you even adjusted your max size, it wasn't even sending 300k, it compresses down to like 70k.
I still get stuff like 90k/1000k in most cases. It is garbage. Only way I can see right now is to use a different messaging app, but I would prefer to use the stock app.

Yeah I noticed the same thing, still garbage. I just never posted back. I am able to get some pictures to post with 800k but most are like 80 or 90. Haven't found any good solution at all

I put in a feature request on the sense toolbox page. Maybe they can figure it out.
I am beyond irritated with this same issue. It's not Tmobile that's compressing ititit's the phone. If you attached a pic that is less than 1000K (ex. 900K),it doesn't compress. But if youuuse a pic over 1000K, it compresses the heck out of it to like 150K. HTC needs to provide a fix for this!
