I want to tether my Kindle fire hd 8.9 or my nexus 7 via blue tooth since the phone supports it and it uses less battery than Wifi. Has anyone done it successfully and able to tell me how?

Are you on snowjb? Thought I read somewhere BT tether wasn't working on it... Could be wrong though, been reading a ton trying to get caught up... Things might be getting jumbled in my head!

I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus threads and saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI and decided I would try it out on the Note. I did this on my Evo when I had one so this isn't a new idea but I kind like it. This isn't an in depth video, it just shows you how it works with what I have working with it. The commands that the Nexus user can use with his keyboard I couldn't get to work with the Note. Not sure if its an ICS thing or what. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laUNz7QJ9Wo&feature=youtu.be
I too have been playing around with this and it is a pretty novel idea. It isn't 100% there yet in terms of being a setup I could use full time, but it does let me travel without my laptop and plug in to a hotel TV.

I am using both an Apple keyboard and track pad in one setup and a Motorola keyboard/track pad combination in another. They both work well.

Is there a way to make the Motorola Lapdock to work with the Note or something similar?
I was hoping to put Ubuntu on my phone and be able to mirror that to the screen.
Any suggestions?

Can you get any of the commands to work from the keyboard like the Nexus? I'm not having much luck there. Might be a gingerbread thing.

I just found an old Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard (it's a small black box that you set on a table, and it projects a full-sized keyboard onto whatever flat surface it's sitting on using a laser) I used to use with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA and tried to pair it with my Note today. It works flawlessly! This thing hasn't worked with any of my devices since WinMo 5, and even then it usually required a driver to be installed. Not with the Note! Just need to be sure I have the Samsung Keyboard selected (but it doesn't need to be open). I just keep getting more and more excited about this thing (except for the dark splotches on my display and low Quadrant scores).
Ok this is neat for traveling. Anyone know what cable we need to connect to the lcd monitor?

You have to have the MHL to HDMI adapter for it to work. I got mine on Amazon for $22 including shipping and got it within 5 days. Then of course a bluetooth keyboard and mouse..works good. Does your monitor have HDMI?
Edit: If your traveling I'm sure the tv might have an HDMI...unless you stay in a Days Inn as I do..

The Logitech Tablet Bluetooth keyboard/android 3.0+ works nice with the Note.
It even has 3 special keys to enable the menu, home and search buttons.

I dont touch my laptop anymore. Only to download ROMS lol

Even more reason to look for a new girlfriend
I don't know if the Easycap device will work with the Prime. I am guessing that since you need to install PC drivers in order for the device to work with a computer, that it won't work with the Prime.
hi, is there an update i have to perform to make the dongle work? i am on .21 and unlocked so cant update via asus.
is there anything obvious that happens when the dongle is plugged in, does it show as connected anywhere?

Update .21 is the latest update (although another is right around the corner) and the one you need. I don't have mine yet, so I'm not too sure, but as soon as you connect it and slide the locking mechanism over then it's connected. You have to turn your GPS on under your settings and it should be using the dongle. Have a walk outside, put it on and slide the lock, turn your GPS on and run GPS Test or something similar. Remove dongle and test again, you should see a huge decrease in performance if it performs without the dongle at all.
to be honest i have never seen any problem with the gps, i know its not really a great benchmark but seems just as good as my galaxy s.
i will run the tests with and without but didnt seem any quicker to lock when i popped outside a while ago. wasnt sure it was actually working which is why i posted this. wondered if it showed up anywhere similar to when the dock is in place.

.22 is the latest update. It was forced so you wouldn't have seen it happen. Being rooted doesn't stop updates. I am rooted and it updated itself days ago. It contained the fixes for the dongle to work. For those who are unlocked, you have to wait for your ROM writer to add the code. Gary has said that ASUS are looking to release a version of NVFlash for those who are unlocked.

Really? I suppose you're one of the rare few who has relatively decent GPS reception somehow. Good for you lol, I hate you
I suppose the only way to really be sure is to disconnect the internal GPS from its antenna and then use the dongle. Surely there would be a way for the system to realize the dongle is inserted and to let the end-user know about it. I mean, they tell us to type words with the keyboard, I just can't believe they're not telling us we've plugged the dongle in. I wonder if some kind of Tasker profile couldn't differentiate between it and the dock, I doubt it?

Um, what? .22? What country and are you sure you don't mean .21? I keep my Prime's WiFi on 24/7 and my DMClient unfrozen, just manually checked and no update.

Any good?
Does the dongle make a marked difference in reception?
none at all as far as i can see.
could be
1. not working / user error
2. my prime gps was working ok to start with.
hoping there is someway to get feedback from the prime to let me know its using the dongle

I have the dongle
It definitely helps my gps but it dose look bad.
Maybe a company may start making skins for the dongle to make them more attractive and protected. Exposed dongles isn't good. It' not immuned to bumps and bruises.

My bad. Typo on my part. Of course it is .21!!
i think the dongle is well designed. locks in place and fairly discreet considering. could have been an ugly block like a usb stick or the camera add on thingy for the ipod.
i found it makes a nice handle when reading a book

I'll pull out my inner demandarin real quick to say do not apply direct pressure to the dongle - don't use it as an actual handle!
That being said, IMO it would be OK so long as you have larger hands and are pretty careful about it, just don't go trying to support your entire tablet with it. Don't support the tablet at all with it actually, seriously, going to feel terrible if you accidentally crack your screen lol
well didnt actually mean just the dongle. just adds a bit of a ridge to stop and slippage while holding

Ok so I've got my deactivated Photon and I'm repurposing the device as an Android media player. I'm basically trying to make it a nexus Q/Google TV like device. Looking for suggestions on how to best achieve this. I would like to be able to control the device from my phone (Note 2) as the nexus Q allows you to modify it's music queue.
Some background: phone is unlocked, I'm using an HD dock to connect to my TV or stereo.

Buy an HDMI Cable & download an airplay server app from the market (the is one like that)
and an AIrplay Client
Hdmi out on my photon always looked terribly pixelly. I almost could not stand it but mine is locked so maybe custom roms and kernels fix that issue.

Thinking of doing this on a 32" bedroom TV. How are you all controlling it, do you just set up whatever video you want and then plunk it into the dock, or do you have a wireless keyboard/mouse?

Well that's one of the things I'm trying to figure out. If I can get it to behave like the Nexus Q then I could control it from any Android device. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to accomplish this.

Here is my situation. I have a 2013 Honda Accord that is supposed to notify me when I get a new text and be able to read it to me.
What really happens is that when the car connects to the phone it will see all my texts that I currently have and it will read any of them to me that I want. However, if I receive a text while I am in the car the car will never notify me of that text and will infact not even know that the text has been received by the phone.
Does anyone else notice this with their Note 2. Has anyone found a ROM that may fix this issue? I tried two differen AOSP ROMS (cyano and AOKP) with 4.2.2 and they didn't work period. The car said that the text message feature was not supported. I believe the MAP profile may not be working 100% in 4.2.2. I also flashed an old 4.1.2 ROM from CM and it worked the same way that stock does that I described above.
I'm wondering if this issue is a result of Sammy/Google or is it a problem with the Honda Handsfreelink. It isn't really a big deal but I've researched it a good bit this morning and was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge of this problem.
I'm curious have you tried stock? What about driving mode?
