[APP] S Pen Toolbox - screen off on S Pen attach - Galaxy Note II Themes and Apps

I wrote a simple app that turns screen off when S Pen is attached to the device. Samsung forgot to add this so I did.
Features:
* Custom sounds for S Pen attach and detach events.
* Show customizable actions list when detaching S Pen.
* Start any action, application or shortcut on detach (including S Note popup).
* Screen Off when attaching S Pen stylus.
* Smart Screen Off Mode - turn screen off on attach only if it was off when detaching S Pen.
* Return to Home screen when attaching S Pen stylus
* Create Screen Off shortcut on Home screen.
* no root required
Play Store: S Pen Toolbox
This application asks for Device Administrator permission. It is needed for screen off action. You will need to turn this permission off if you want to uninstall the application or Android will not allow to uninstall it. Simply click 'OFF' switch in application settings.

Thing is I use my pen in messages twitter things like that I'm guessing people with note 2 would love to see this added maybe a pop up window opens up when you take out your pen then you can chose from the list in a pop up window

I think this is a good idea. Since you added the Spen detach function to GMD Spen Control I have set up 'detach' to open the right launch pad and 'attach' to switch the screen off.
Having this in a separate app would free up the launch pad for those who like lots of apps on multiple launch pads, or provide this functionality for those who don't want all of the other functionality of Spen Control.
I hope this helps you refine these really great apps!

New version 2.0
Uploaded new version.
2.0:
- Added customizable action list that can be shown on S Pen detach.
- Added option to create Screen Off shortcut on Home screen.
- Fix: purchased key should be handled properly now in all cases.

Trying now. Thanks.

Thanks for adding the action list that makes life easy now

I added option to show action list notification and it is on by default. You can click this notification to open action list. Any better suggestions how to make it open ? One idea was to add home screen shortcut, but then I opted for notification as it is accessible from any application.

Thanks for this tool Stupididea its fantastic

I'd like to make a quick suggestion to make this nice app even better :
The screen should be turned off only if it was off when I detached the SPen. Use case scenario: I'm working on the phone, I need to take the SPen out for some reason, attach it again and continue working. It would turn off the screen which would be annoying.
You need to remember the on/off status of the screen to override the turn off feature when SPen is attached. It should be simple I think. You can provide it as an additional feature - "Smart Turn Off"
Great app though Very useful.

Thanks, I will add it. So far plans for new version:
* Option to start application/shortcut/action on detach
* Add S Note popup action, that can be added to action list or started on detach
* Smart Screen Off.
Anything else?

if your phone is not root you can not uninstall the app.

You have to turn OFF the Device Admistrator permission in application settings. Its first setting. Then you can uninstall it. I really wrote it everywhere I could (XDA post, Play Store description, in app permission description). This is how this permission works, you cannot uninstall app while this permission is granted. If you check any other app that turns off scree, they all have the same "issue".

Great
Since this app is dealing with SPen detach/attach actions, is it possible for you to include custom attach/detach sounds from your app? I'm not sure about the implementation aspects but it's a much sought after feature and would save us the trouble of modding and/or flashing

[REQ] Multiwindow without using back button

Hello guys.
This may sound like a complicated request, and it may be impossible to implement, but wouldn't it be nice if we could activate the multiwindow "pane" without using/holding the back button? A la SwipePad/LMT/Glovebox/Swapps style, using invisible swipe areas on the edge/s of the screen to show the "pane" of apps for multiwindow. That would really make multiwindow AWESOME for multitasking!
As it is now, for some apps, long-pressing the back button causes some apps to actually recognize that the back was pressed and would, simply, "go back" instead of usually doing nothing. This really irks me. I hope you understand what I'm talking about...
Anyway, if any developer works on this idea, I would be so grateful. :fingers-crossed:
Use simplistic framework control
GMD Gesture Control will allow you to activate multiwindow and you get to define the gesture

Today, April 12th, 2013, Facebook Home was released into the play store for public use on a select few devices. However, many people are skeptical are wondering if this is going to be a worthwhile app to use to replace their home screen, and I’ll let you know right now.
The Good
- Interface: When scrolling through the pages and different pictures, the experience you get while using it is very good. If you’re looking for buttery smooth performance, this may be for you
- Chat Heads: Chat Heads are little bubbles that pop up whenever you receive a message (or SMS assuming you set it up in settings) through your Messenger app. You can move it all around your screen and they pop up no matter what screen you’re in. You can stack your messages together, or throw them all away. As well when you do click on the chat head, it comes up in a nice little pop up so you don’t have to leave the app you’re in. And of course, if you’re into emojis, facebook has most of them and they will pop up on your friends iPhone or your normal GO SMS/SMS app that also has the emoji codec.
The Bad
- No Dedicated Camera Button: You would think with Facebook relying very heavily on pictures it’d have a dedicated camera button in the corner of the screen or something, but no. You actually have to swipe up, go into apps, swipe right, then scroll and find the camera button and move it into your shortcuts. Kind of an annoying and unnecessary hassle.
- Better Search: So far, Facebook Home makes you have to keep scrolling and scrolling an endless amount of times until you may find content you are actually interested in. To find your friends you must go into the actually Facebook app itself to view specific people if you can find them on Facebook Home.
- More Features: I’m not too huge of a Facebook user. I reply more on Twitter, Google +, and Instagram. While the first two social networks are understandable not to have in Facebook Home, it’d be nice (since Facebook bought out Instagram) if you could make Facebook Home show your Instagram feed instead of your Facebook feed after going into the settings.
- Support: If you watched the event, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned he wanted this to be something everyone, on any phone, can use. But at the moment it’s only supported on the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, HTC One, One X, or One X +.
Final Verdict
While Facebook Home does a couple things right, it really needs to work on things still. At the moment, it’s more a beta than anything else. Hopefully in the coming months when Facebook does its scheduled updates, it’ll add more functionality and phone support so more people can actually use it. If you're really big on Facebook this is gonna be fore you. If you use Facebook to connect with a few people and the rest is a bunch of people you don't really care about then at the moment I'd probably steer towards sticking stock or using something like Nova or Action launcher Pro.
I tried this today.... i honestly felt it was a joke. That's my personal opinion. :/

I cant seem to get chat heads to popup on regular launcher? Under Facebook messager i do not have to option of enabling it. I am on the most current version of it 2.4.2release, Can the Note 2 not do this unless on 4.2.2?

What I mean by liking the interface, I mean the pictures and quality look quite nice. However, navigating through it.. not so pleasant an experience when getting to your apps, settings, into facebooks app itself, etc.

It didn't work for me right away either. Make sure you messenger is updated first of all (mine wasn't), but even after I did that it still didn't work. I reset my phone though and it seemed to work (make sure Chat Heads are enabled in the Messenger settings as well).

Download done. Time to flash woo hoo
So far so good.
Edit; quick update report. For starters
Keyboard does not have swipe capabilities. (Tried google keyboard but will not allow any other keyboards to load)
Cannot get voice typing to stay ticked.
Could not get other languages to check off for downloads even though they show in settings.
Button row led lights do not work will not hold check in settings (after reboot started working correctly)
Request:
Is it possible in the dialer keypad instead of the bottom left button accessing voice mail can it be made to go to messaging. (holding 1 goes to VM why would we need 2 ways to go to VM :silly: )?

The black status bar is just a couple pngs inside the apk that where changed. You can change them yourself. Essentially an apk is a zip file. I recommend using 7zip and explore the apk. The images are in /res/drawaple-xhdpi. I get you the names of those images 2moro or create a metamorph

The OP says to change lock screen wallpaper just open gallery and set as then select lock screen wall paper. Not really an issue but a bug to fix none the less. 2 camera apps are because one is stock LG and one is 4.2 ASOP. So you can use whatever you prefer. Great rom

Yes i plan on fixing the lock screen wallpaper force close. To me that's just something minor since i use personal pictures ( nothing like seeing my old lady butass naked everytime i turn on my phone ). I even thought about just removing the option from the lock screen

The 2nd camera is from 4.3 n has working photosphere that so many wanted. The problem for me is the 4.3 camera is missing hrd witch I use allot. So I kept the stock camera.

So you don't want to use gsm at all? That doesn't make sense. "Gsm/wcdma/LTE" will have better reception. For example: I only get gsm inside my house. By disabling gsm I would have no service. Outside I get hspa+ n if I travel down the road I get LTE. My phone grabs what it can. Now the people that don't get LTE at all would want to use gsm/wcdma so the phone stops looking for an LTE connection in return should help with battery. LTE is to spotty for LTE only and LTE is only used for data and switches to wcdma or gsm for voice. So LTE only would disable the ability to make n receive phone calls.

Try this. Uninstall S Health. Then...using Samsung Apps search for S Health and install. I just did this and I have the 4x1 widget with the Heart Rate shortcut on right side of the widget and the Pedometer on the left...assuming this is what you want.. What's weird is I usually use Holo Launcher Prime which is a paid app and I kept getting not enough room on home screen ....even with a completely empty page. Switched to Nova Prime, another paid launcher I like and it worked fine. Go figure.
Edit: Do the uninstall, then reinstall instead of doing the update which it does from our stock setups. I am on the Omega ROM from the International site, so if this doesn't work, I'll try finding and sending to you.

Did you try my suggestion I posted to you? I have installed now two custom ROM's and no problems with the widget you want.
Both ROMs are on the International site, BTW.

Yes I Uninstalled and reinstalled the app.. The widget still isn't available. Although it wouldn't let me fully uninstall just disable and then reinstall the update.. Still no widget

Disabling is not going to do it. Use an app like Titanium Backup to totally uninstall. I have tested this now a number of times on three different ROMs. Or root explorer for that matter. Anything to completely take S Health off your setup. Then use the Samsung app to install the latest version from scratch.
Edit: It's a system app. You cannot just use the applications manager, which only disables. Titanium backup can uninstall a system app, or you are going to need a root capable file manager to uninstall

I think I know your problem. If this doesn't do it, then I give up. Are you going thru the initial setup. IOW, putting in your name, choose male vs female...height and weight and physical activity. If you enter in all that info, then with the 4x1 widget when you hit the right side, the heart monitor starts. When you click the left side the pedometer action starts. IF..you didn't go thru inputting your initial information, try it again
I did.. Fully set up the app.. All my info is there I've even entered food and taken my heart rate.. Still only the pedometer widget.. What is the dual widget called? The name the shows up in the widget selector?

I have three widgets. 4x1 Coach
2x1 Pedometer
4x1 S Health <<<<<This one is what I am posting a screen shot of.
When I click on the right side the heart rate app runs and the left side the Pedometer steps run <<<also posted screen shot
I know how how to place widgets, but will you please go through the steps to see that list.. Because this is what I see
This is the only s health widget I can find.. I've searched them all.. And I've tried adding it to a page and I get no dialog to change it to a different one.

You are on GEL. Those other S Health widgets are specific to the TW Launcher, much like the weather widget.

First go to Applications manager in settings. Open up S Health. It will give a version number. What version is installed.
I have 3.1.0 0020.
Also look at HealthService. You should have v1.0.000 but it should state that it has been updated. IOW, next to force stop, it will give an option to uninstall updates. I just want to know you did successfully totally uninstall S Health and then reinstall from scratch.
Yes I did.. But I didn't realize it was tw specific.. Boo is there anyway to get it to run on Gel?

I'm using Nova Launcher Prime myself. Not sure why it would have an issue specific to launcher...but I learn stuff here every day.....
Well I just set my launcher to tw and the widget is there!
I want to use gel so I guess I'll live without the widget..
Does anyone know if there is a way to shortcut to the action of heart rate monitor?

Not available if you updated S Health.

Bring back the menu button!

So, this is day #2 using my sgs5 and I can't count how many times I clicked on the new "recent" button, hoping a menu will show up, just to return to the app and press again a long click. is very annoying!
Is there any app that can re-map that key? And change the long-press home button as it was before, showing "recent".
I'm rooted.
Thanks.

On the custom ROMs I have been using, by default if you long press the menu button, guess what, the menu button displays the menu
If you used the menu mainly to access the settings menu like I did, I just use the toolbox with the settings shortcut in it, and put it down in the button left corner. That way it's near the a same place as the menu key was and I can quickly access the settings menu. Just a thought that May help you.
No thanks! I Much prefer the recent apps button.

If you rooted your phone you can uze Xposed/Gravitybox to remap the hardware keys back to what they used to be. Works much better that way IMHO.

Did you try long pressing the menu button. At least with the Nova Prime launcher I prefer, it works as the old method and no remapping needed. This way you have best of both worlds. Short press recent apps and long press menu settings etc. Anyway, for me simple is best. This doesn't require anything on your part.
Yea kinda lazy. At first I hated menu leaving but now getting used to it. Just get used to it holding on to recent will do what you wanted.

Gravity box works great to change long-press actions. If it can change single-press actions also, then I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
To change single-press actions, I use Xposed Additions:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spazedog.xposed.additionsgb
I use it on my S4 to do the opposite of what the OP wants.
It drives me nuts that half the new apps out there no longer use the "menu" button properly anymore. And so I've set my "menu" button to behave exactly as the S5.
I also use it to completely disable the home button while the screen is off. It was driving me nuts that the screen turned on every time I wiped my screen with a damp towel, because I'd accidentally touch the home button.
Thanks CZ Eddie,
I was about to try xposed but in other posts I've seen that this breaks some other functionality in the s5. I thought to wait a bit longer to make sure everything is sorted out with maybe an xposed update
How is your S health and private mode? Still working?

Dud you ever figure out what to do with this request? Did changing the settings mess other things up like you thought they would? As soon as I get an s5, this has to be the first thing I do. Really don't care for the events button as the primary.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks - and this should be same procedure for the Verizon S5, right? I'm still trying to decide whether I want to upgrade from my Nexus, and this is one of the biggest things I need to work out before I commit. Thanks so much for your reply. If you do notice something screwy, please post back.

One last question about this (and only because I don't know how the button is actually physically built).
I'll still be dealing with the same recent apps visual display, right? I mean the button display won't automatically switch from the 2-box looking icon to the 3/4 lines/dots that represents menu?
I fully expect not, but just wasn't sure what magic causes that button to work.
Thanks.
No its not onscreen buttons it just changes your current action on the recents button u already have to menu so when u press that recents button it will actually be the menu button now.
