I answered your question on the other thread you posted. Please Please Please learn how to use the search feature for XDA. There is no downgrade to 1.5 the devs are working on it and you need to be patient they will post a new thread when they come up with a way to go back down to 1.5 from leaked 2.1. Please stop asking this question in threads it will be obvious when its available. I understand you want the Nexus keyboard and your looking for root please just be patient and when they are available the devs will make it very obvious. Thanks!
Is there away to downgrade Android 2.x to 1.5 so that I can root?
..................What about now????????

For those to impatient to wait for downgrade to come, If you were to happen to have your phone lost or stolen, insurance claims are only $100.00.
Now on a completely separate thought, completely unrelated to the above statement, HTC Eris phones with unusable ESNs are selling for
$100.00 - $150.00 on eBay.

This is very strange. I tried to post reply on the ICS Passion ROM thread, but then I been redirected to a page saying I need more than 10 posts before I can post there. However, there are many replies on that same thread, by peoples with just 1 or 2 post count.
Is there something I did wrong?

You need 10 posts to do it in the dev section. You should be able to reply in the general or other sections. Why they can I am not sure. Are they doing it with a computer or by phone maybe?
Thanks. I don't mind I need 10 to post if that's the rule. I just wondering why some peoples, like me, has to follow that rule, but some don't required.
It could be the date they join. Some have been here forever with little to no posts.

I believe that the cutoff is around 2009 or older. Grandfather clause. Remember when there wasn't a "thanks" button?
Oh I see..... so this 10 post rule is something new (relatively). Thanks for the explanation.
Now I just have to work hard for my 10 posts.
I always wondered the same exact thing... I noticed some dude two days ago posting in the development and had 3 posts... I think under our profile there's a referral option so maybe they got referred my an existing member. That's my guess
Took me a year to get 10 post!
posts
10 posts is a pain, but I understand they don't want everyone mucking up the Dev threads. Sometimes they are hard enough to keep up with what is going on in them.

if its something youre really going to consider, you have to invest in a good one. the initial investment in a starterkit will run you between $60-$90, but you ultimately save a ****ton of money AND health from there on out.
those crap ecigs from the convience store/mall kiosk are a horrible misrepresentation of the vaping world, dont buy those.
i can give you good recommendations if youre interested.

It's not about being lazy, it's about the conformity. We all go to the mechanic to fix our cars unless you know how to fix it, obviously. That's just how it works man. I do think that people not giving credit to the devs and all of the people that make this happen is really messed up though.
I don't believe in these kinds of businesses, here in Puerto Rico, there are lots of stores that dedicate themselves to hack iPhones or as they call it "unlock" it. And they charge like 30$!! It's ridiculous! I get disgusted every time I see one

Agreed. I don't see the problem with it. Heck if I could make it into a side business I would. As others have said, they aren't selling the work that others have made, they're charging for their time, knowledge, gas (in a lot of cases they will travel to you) and convenience to root/hack/mod a phone that the owner doesn't want to do themselves. Yeah they can read some forums and do it themselves, but if they're willing to pay for it, it means they're either lazy and don't care or aren't technically inclined.
Some phones really aren't as simple as you would think to root and simply install wifi tether, for example. Downloading drivers, reading the root process for that device, downloading the scripts and tools, copying files to and from the phone, rebooting and the wait adds up into a lot of time and sometimes frustration. A lot of people don't want to deal with it, and if I'm going to learn all of that and sacrifice my time for someone I don't know, I want to be compensated.
I worked for Data Doctors (computer repair business) and while our prices (not set by me) were a little expensive, people gladly paid it because they didn't know how nor could they be bothered to fix the system themselves. That's business.
it took my around 5 hours the other day to figure out how to root, s-off and flash a custom rom on the Amaze. If I had already started my new job I would definitiv have paid the $15 to save me 5 hours of time.
Times are hard and knowledge is power.
If this guy knows what he's doing why not let him do it?
I think it's f*ed up that you flagged just because you're an XDA member who "supposedly" knows better.
He's trying to make some money off of his knowledge.
I mean, just because the information is here doesn't mean everyone who reads it understands it or could implement it.
Some people are not technology inclined.
YouTube has videos on how to do almost everything but just because you watch doesn't mean you'll be able to do it.
What was wrong with him trying to make money from the time and effort he invested into understanding the rooting and unlocking process of a phone?
Honestly..flagging him was a d**k move.

OK I am receiving a di4g today to replace my stratosphere which whent belly up. it is like new replacement
so I am confused. I see roms but i see things in the forum like "NO ROOT YET" so which is it.
I chose this over the nexus because I wanted a global phone and the repo told me it would be a global phone.
so I assume that it will have the update "yes?"
is that why there is no root yet.. ie the old one had a root the update does not.
can someone explain in nutshell the 'state of the phone'
Had root. Root go away. Root coming back soon.

Aptly put.
Also, the newest update allows our phone to be a used globally, but it didn't take away root, Verizon stopped allowing our phone to be unlocked via HTCDev a week after it came out. We're about to have S-OFF, which will re-enable root.
The first few weeks htc dev site allowed people to unlock their phones and install a recovery and roms. After that it was disabled and the reason is up for debate still. Recently an exploit has been found and root was achieved. Now people are just waiting on the tool to be released by that dev team that allows s off and root.

others have been waiting for a while now, and not too mention this phone is basically Verizon's dead horse, so we are VERY lucky that I was able to even get the team to put in their free time to get the tool made.
They are making the tool. Root IS confirmed along with S-OFF.
ONCE the tool is SAFE, then they will release. THEN you can donate to their team, they specifically ask that you DO NOT donate until the tool IS released.
They are doing this on their free time for a phone they do not own.
I spent about 8+ hours total of my time as well with the team letting them remote access straight into the phone thanks to a root exploit found in the new 2.17xxx OTA update found by superdave, that I passed on to the team which they then were able to successfully attain S-OFF, on two Incredible 4G phones, one completely stock like yours, and one that was previously rooted by HTCDev unlock tool before that option got taken away.
The only thing you can do is to please wait patiently, and when the tool is released, please donate to them then. If you want to trade up for a Galaxy Nexus if the tool isn't released quick enough for you that's your choice, this is a great community though and we'd love to have you stay with us.
Thank you,

Very much appreciated guys!
I only helped Nit with 1 ROM though and he did the majority of the work, and 100% of the next update on the new base thus far (he is killin it! and is a true pleasure for me to be able to work with.) so I can't take too much credit there, but I do appreciated the acknowledgment, you guys donated just as much as I did, I just spent the time with the guys, having a community as awesome and understanding as this one is like a once in a decade kinda thing :good:
It's hurting me just as badly not having the S-OFF tool out, I can't wait for everyone to be able to use their phone the way it's intended to be used..
the way you want it to be!!
I'm also very thankful to superdave for recognizing that the new RUU has an old exploit and the unlimited.io team are simply amazing people, as soon as I mentioned the exploit I asked them if it's something they could work with or had the time to check out, and without a pause they replied to install the RUU, and come back tmw (since they are in wayy tiff diff zone than myself) and the next 4 days straight the worked with me and are such nice people to work with and all the hours made it worth it looking down to see S-OFF, and knowing that what could have been a failed phone be what it deserves to be.

hi everyone! I am seeking your expertise as I came upon this forum trying to help my son fix his phone. He's only 11 years old- but as we call him at home our "tech guy". He got a brand new HTC One M8 yesterday and 3 hours later - the phone was "bricked" as I have been told. Apparently, (these are his words) he "unlocked the bootloader using HTCdev, then flashed twrp, then flashed supersu.zip.
I have no idea what any of that means but apparently he did something wrong because his phone is not working and we don't know how to fix it. If you have any compassion for a frustrated Mom who's trying not to be angry with her son -- I would appreciate any advice you can give on how to fix this.
I have attached a picture of what the phone looks like when we turn it on. Not sure how to get picture in post.
Thanks a bunch!!

I'm going to venture to guess that the process will be entirely too long and tedious for someone not well versed to follow and could potential end in disaster. The phone isn't bricked since the main recovery menu pops up. I'd suggest looking on craigslist for someone locally to help you guys out. Unless someone here can offer a quick fix, i'd much rather you find someone that has experience to fix this in person. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but that would probably be your best bet

Thank you for your responses! Much appreciated. Believe it or not - this kid fixed it all by himself. Basically (remember I am not technical) he unlocked the boot loader then flashed a ROM onto an SD card and was able to load. Don't think I worded correctly - but it's fixed and working fine. WHEW!!
I will certainly keep the info to this forum handy because something tells me that I will be visiting again with this child..................

Have a great evening!!

I started getting into ROMs your sons age. I am 15 now. I have hard bricked a Motorola Atrix 2, meaning it won't turn on at all. That's cool your son is a tech wizard too, it will do him a lot of good and a lot of bad. You should educate him about Ubuntu and let him screw with that on a PC. Much safer messing with a computer than a phone. Anyways, glad he got it working. ?

Me too! Im 14 now.
The M8 is my first android phone and custom roms seem to get better and better.
The phone was not "bricked", and you are using the term improperly. Your son simply did something to make the phone unable to boot into the Android operating system. This state is usually easy to recover from, as long as the proper steps are known. So that is not a brick.
Itis of course your choice whether to let your kid modify (mod) your phone in such ways. And part of the modding process is always going to involve some hiccups (for even the most experienced users) and figuring out how to fix them. So I'm glad your son figured it out.
On the other hand, both you and he should be fully aware (if not already) that modding the phone may void the warranty, and also permanent damage (a true "brick") is possible if he doesn't fully understand what he is doing. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
To the OP (original poster), please do not create multiple thread asking the same question.
Its against forum rules, and makes it super confusing for those trying to help you.

hi everyone!

You got your 11-year-old a $700 smartphone. What did you think would happen? Why in the world does a kid that young even need a smartphone?

I agree about his technical skills being alot of good and bad! We've had our share with him-- I won't bore you with the lists. My husband is the tech guy (of course he was away on business when this happened) and he understands his quest for knowledge and how much he loves this stuff - -says it's how he learns. Hubby has given him some old laptops and ipods and he sure has fun with those!

Oh, I'm sorry. Are you counting the on contract price? Okay. Well, throw it on the ground or drop it in a pool or give it to a child to ruin. Now go back to the store to get a replacement and see how much it costs. You also signed a contract and took on an extra monthly data plan... For a child. The fact that you have no clue how much the phone actually costs explains a lot, actually.
I'm not concerned about your wallet. You clearly have more money than sense, so rather than crying here, just go buy a replacement phone for him to ruin. While you're at it, go ahead and get him an espresso machine.

Seems like she asked a question to a problem and it was answered. I'm not sure how taking a personal shot at a newcomer to the forum accomplishes anything. Her decision to buy her son anything is hers and hers alone, why inject your opinion into it, much less insinuate that she has no sense. It comes off as aloof and petty. This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of this forum. Flame away.

Thanks a bunch for your support and from all of those who responded. I've visited various forums in my life and am well aware that there are always those few who just like to be mean and find power on these boards. I didn't come here asking for anyone's opinion on what I allow my children to do or how they spend their allowance - just needed some advice. Sincerely appreciate the great input that I have received.

The actual retail cost of the device is $639; which would also be the replacement cost of this device. The on-contract price of $199 is just a subsidized cost, which the carrier basically spreads over the length of your 2-year contract.
