I answered your question on the other thread you posted. Please Please Please learn how to use the search feature for XDA. There is no downgrade to 1.5 the devs are working on it and you need to be patient they will post a new thread when they come up with a way to go back down to 1.5 from leaked 2.1. Please stop asking this question in threads it will be obvious when its available. I understand you want the Nexus keyboard and your looking for root please just be patient and when they are available the devs will make it very obvious. Thanks!

Is there away to downgrade Android 2.x to 1.5 so that I can root?

Downgrading made easy, by jcase.
Step 1

Step 2
smash with big rock.
Step 3
Go to http://www.ebay.com
Step 4
Buy slightly used 1.5 eris.
Step 5
clean up parts from step 2.
Step 6
Enjoy root.
Win?

That was easy, my slightly used Eris will be here Monday.....

For those to impatient to wait for downgrade to come, If you were to happen to have your phone lost or stolen, insurance claims are only $100.00.
Now on a completely separate thought, completely unrelated to the above statement, HTC Eris phones with unusable ESNs are selling for
$100.00 - $150.00 on eBay.

Root With HTC Loose your WARRANTY

I dont think this has been posted, But here is the latest on the HTC Bootloader unlock
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/03/htc-explains-official-bootloader-unlock-process-asks-you-to-sig/
Yeah that sucks, but what did you really expect? HTC can't be expected to support unlocked phones bc ppl can really screw up their phones if they don't know what they're doing. HTC is only protecting themselves and this was absolutely expected IMHO. Good news article though regardless.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D... Get in the third dimension!
Thanks for the info, didn't catch that. Please keep in mind next time that this may be an official development for information on the official bootloader unlock, but that does not make it development, this technically belongs in general.
No your right, it wasnt posted in DEVELOPMENT, it IS however posted in GENERAL (where it belongs!)
Hmmm.... Lets see here.
1. Root Phone w/ out HTC.
2. Do whatever you want.
3. Have hardware error and need warranty repair.
4. Back to stock we go!
5. ????
6. Profit!
Umad HTC?
had a feeling that was going to happen but not to sound hard on you this is the development section this should be placed in general section just a heads up

Wow, it got moved really fast! Lol
So what would that do to Sprint insurance if you root with HTC? Does that mean you might as well cancel it or will Sprint still replace?
Do you think HTC knows we already have these devices unlocked. Lol
Although sucks if this is where Androids future is going.
I'm glad that some companys have listened to the community. We asked for them to give us unlocked bootloaders t and they are ACTUALLY delivering. Of course it voids the warranty I'm not suprised at all. Stops *****ing bout it cuz they could've NOT unlocked them and than everything would be the same. Change is good in my opinion.

Makes good sense to me - Archos says the same (or similar) and it hasn't stopped people.
Maybe it'll clear out the riffraff.

Definitely will. We'll have less people coming over to this forum and whining at us because we won't hold their hand through the entire rooting process (although there has been enough of that already anyways), and more time for expansion ROM cooking.
And +1 to easily being able to fool anyone into thinking our warranty isn't void.
Lets be honest here, anyone on this forum would never use the MFW anyways, we are all here for one reason and one reason only. To get the most out of our phones and exploit their capabilities. You technically void your warranty with any other root anyways, so what's the difference? We are all taking a risk at doing anything with our phones in the first place. I can't say I blame HTC for taking their stand. They will give you the unlock, but you have to be willing to put your feet in the water too.
I just think it's funny. During the flame wars there were multiple people saying "htc would not release something that voids warranty."

I saw this posted yesterday, but ever since I started rooting phones with my Hero a year and a half ago I always knew it technically voided the warranty. It is easy to switch back to stock and I have never had them even check when I returned a phone in the past.
Glad that they are going to release it. Not suprised that it voids the warranty. No different than putting mods on your car.....

Isn't that what RUU's are for?! I haven't had any problems at all returning previously rooted phones to Sprint, even after bricking my GF's Optimus S trying to get it back to stock, they took it back and gave us a new one. If you don't know how to revert to stock, you shouldn't be messing with root in the first place.
Just my opinion..

Well...I think It's cool they are unlocking the bl ..even though at this point It's futile and the people who know what they are doing already have Their phone unlocked..I'm not gonna give them much credit though..they should not have locked it down in the first place..It's like someone punching you in the face and then giving them credit or appreciation when they apologize

+1 to RUU to stock... Funny story, when I traded in my Hero at Best Buy, the guy saw my CM7 Gingerbread ROM and was like, "Sweet, didn't know you could put gingerbread on this thing." He never even batted an eye that it was rooted.

I'm losing faith in the quality of HTC's dependability. They even drop your warranty if you transfer your evo to another line on your account. That's retarded because you're still the user of the device.

Bricked...

Lol I'm like the first one to brick it... congrats to me with a dead metal brick...
was playing with the temp root (tool and script) so just remind everyone there
are still risks associated
basically i got temp root, then after firing up titanium backup and backed up all my apps it crashed, then super user started crashing, it's stuck in forever boot loop, master reset will just shut down the machine lol i'll probably take it back since just got it 2 days ago

That's not S-Off (if it were, it would say 's-off' not 'unlocked'). Also, by taking HTC's unlock you voluntarily void your warranty, so I dunno if Tmob will be helpful...

I hope T-Mobile will help you.
By unlocking the boot loader, you informed HTC that you voluntarily voided you warranty.
Those posts in the dev forum are extremely dangerous, both the bootloader unlock and temp root ones. The unlock being the most dangerous. I am grateful for the brave souls, that risk their device everyday, to help everyone.
However, until there is a method to restore a device to that "factory-fresh" state, people are playing Russian Roulette with their devices.
I am sending my best wishes your way though. Let's hope for a loophole.
Thanks, I just got a new phone. I walked in when the t-mobile retail manager was on an asshole attitude, so I just "attempted" to turn off the phone, he didn't even power it on, he just charged me a $50 restocking fee, I'd pay that instead of taking my chances of not being able to return it FOREVER, plus square trade deductible is the same anyway... so yeah now I got a new phone and I'm happy as ever,
Learn from this my friend, and spread the gospel to others.
Thou shalt not unlock the bootloader using HTC's method.
Thou shalt let people with more experience than thine self test new methods for anything.
If thou does not have extensive experience with development, thou shalt not do anything to thine device, unless there is a foolproof method to recover the device.

Am I the only one annoyed by this. Your brand new to android and attempted rooting after reading next to nothing on xda. Once you bricked your phone, which was inevitable considering your complete lack of preparation, you cheated the system and saddled HTC with brick.
They won't continue being friendly with the dev community if they keep getting screwed by idiots who think there are no consequences to jumping the gun.

My thoughts exactly...OP is dumb for jumping in ****-deep. OP is a twat for lying/stealing/cheating TMo. Take responsibility for your actions...I cannot count how many times idiots did this in the Vibrant forum.
calm down folks. While agree that the OP prob should have waited a bit, how does someone gain experience unless they try? Maybe be a little nicer instead of just outright insulting someone for their inexperience. Were you guys all born with complete knowledge of how to root a phone, did it by instinct? I doubt it. lay off the guy.
Secondly, cheating T-mo? like they don't make money hand over fist off all of us anyway? besides, for that guys $50 restocking fee, all T-Mo did was sell another phone so, they make twice as much money, and they get a phone back to recondition and sell as either a refurb or give it to asurion so that they can use it as an insurance replacement.
Be [email protected]$%@#g nice on these forums people, otherwise people are gonna get burned out on doing stuff like this and there will be no development at all on anything.
People with no experience need to wait until the more experienced make things clear and stable. As for the cheating, etc, it is fraud. Just because we feel that companies rape us does not make it legal to steal. That is all I will say on it.
Applaud the successes, cast stones at poor morality.

Root? S-Off?

How close are we to gaining S-off/root? The only threads that are being posted in in the past 2 weeks are the rom threads, and those are for the unlocked phones only.
So, how close are we to getting our phones rooted and such?

So there's literally nothing that can happen until verizon allows s-off? I'm probably completely incorrect in thinking this so correct me if so but, isn't s-off just unlocking the bootloader? Motorola phones always have their bootloader locked, but they have plenty of roms available, as well as root...

no unlocking does not give s-off, but when unlocked you can flash roms and kernels using adb, you can't flash radios though. with s-off you don't need to use adb or a computer to flash, and you can flash anything
basicly all you need adb for is to flash the boot.img of the rom after flashing with recovery

Yea it doesn't make sense, it flat out pisses me off as I'm sure the rest of you guys. I don't have the damn phone, but I really want it for the form factor that it is and phablet that it's not. I mean, hell the guys over on the gsiii got that unlocked, not sure if it was VZ or the developers over there but it's rocking and rolling, no reason why they shouldn't allow us the same.
Even their stupid data plans are out now which make it so convenient to share your data, legally tether in other words, so it's not like were just looking to root it to take advantage of their phones. The Crapple 5 is on the shelf, so what's the hold up VZ. Sorry just frustrated with those clowns at VZ.
Thankfully the OG Dinc guys are still hard at work dev and that allows me to run with JB on my outdated ride but if she goes up in smoke, I gotta real dilemma, lol..
I'm glad to see folks are still trying to work on it here, this could be a hell of a phone and forum if you guys crack this mother

I love the phone. It's absolutely better than my original Incredible, but I would love this phone all that much more if I could root it. I don't care about S-OFF or unlocked bootloader as much as having root and being able to do some of the stuff I could on my Incredible. Like Andy has said, as soon as we get any form of root, even temp root, we'll have S-OFF. We just need that little step first.
I gotta say I feel really bad for you guys. I was strongly considering this phone, even though I pre-ordered a GS3 to keep my unlimited data in tact. I planned to either sell the GS3 on eBay or exchange it for the Dinc 4G but I ended up sticking with the GS3 out of laziness. I was jealous that you guys had an unlocked bootloader from launch but what a dirty move on Verizon's part making HTC take it down. Really horrible.
So I've been following progress here ever since. I'm glad there are people doing work on it, as perhaps someday I'll have the upgrade I originally wanted; one I can comfortably hold. I basically have to two-hand this thing.
Here's to hope for the future!

^ That is exactly why I wanted the Dinc4g. The signal is solid, it's very fast - both processor and 4G internet ...and it fits in my pocket nicely.
it. just. needs. root.
It maybe because there is no htcdev unlock too. I plan on getting this phone, but my upgrade isn't for awhile. I'm confident it will get s-off soon, but i'll enjoy my S-OFF Inc2 until this phone is S-OFF.
even though this phone is pretty nice i wouldn't pick it up down the road... it's a ghost town for forums and with no root and half the apps not utilizing the google intended extended menu there is a black bar a lot of the time using the app. If you want something small and locked down the Razr M smacks this around i think. I'm tempted to go to it just for the soft keys alone.

I'm saying this because you should have an idea what's going on so you don't have to pay for things easy enough to do them yourself.. There is instructions laid out there step by step. He didn't even want the whole $100. So I'm splitting 1/2 to him and 1/2 to the developers of the ROM, b/c so far the 10 minutes that I've played with it I'm so much happier than the stock Verizon crap.

[Q] HELP - child wiped out phone (brick?) and mom needs help...

hi everyone! I am seeking your expertise as I came upon this forum trying to help my son fix his phone. He's only 11 years old- but as we call him at home our "tech guy". He got a brand new HTC One M8 yesterday and 3 hours later - the phone was "bricked" as I have been told. Apparently, (these are his words) he "unlocked the bootloader using HTCdev, then flashed twrp, then flashed supersu.zip.
I have no idea what any of that means but apparently he did something wrong because his phone is not working and we don't know how to fix it. If you have any compassion for a frustrated Mom who's trying not to be angry with her son -- I would appreciate any advice you can give on how to fix this.
I have attached a picture of what the phone looks like when we turn it on. Not sure how to get picture in post.
Thanks a bunch!!

I'm going to venture to guess that the process will be entirely too long and tedious for someone not well versed to follow and could potential end in disaster. The phone isn't bricked since the main recovery menu pops up. I'd suggest looking on craigslist for someone locally to help you guys out. Unless someone here can offer a quick fix, i'd much rather you find someone that has experience to fix this in person. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but that would probably be your best bet

UPDATE
Thank you for your responses! Much appreciated. Believe it or not - this kid fixed it all by himself. Basically (remember I am not technical) he unlocked the boot loader then flashed a ROM onto an SD card and was able to load. Don't think I worded correctly - but it's fixed and working fine. WHEW!!
I will certainly keep the info to this forum handy because something tells me that I will be visiting again with this child..................
Have a great evening!!
p.s. I typed the wrong key -- he's 12 not 11

I started getting into ROMs your sons age. I am 15 now. I have hard bricked a Motorola Atrix 2, meaning it won't turn on at all. That's cool your son is a tech wizard too, it will do him a lot of good and a lot of bad. You should educate him about Ubuntu and let him screw with that on a PC. Much safer messing with a computer than a phone. Anyways, glad he got it working. ?

Me too! Im 14 now.
The M8 is my first android phone and custom roms seem to get better and better.
The phone was not "bricked", and you are using the term improperly. Your son simply did something to make the phone unable to boot into the Android operating system. This state is usually easy to recover from, as long as the proper steps are known. So that is not a brick.
Itis of course your choice whether to let your kid modify (mod) your phone in such ways. And part of the modding process is always going to involve some hiccups (for even the most experienced users) and figuring out how to fix them. So I'm glad your son figured it out.
On the other hand, both you and he should be fully aware (if not already) that modding the phone may void the warranty, and also permanent damage (a true "brick") is possible if he doesn't fully understand what he is doing. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
To the OP (original poster), please do not create multiple thread asking the same question.
Its against forum rules, and makes it super confusing for those trying to help you.

You got your 11-year-old a $700 smartphone. What did you think would happen? Why in the world does a kid that young even need a smartphone?

I agree about his technical skills being alot of good and bad! We've had our share with him-- I won't bore you with the lists. My husband is the tech guy (of course he was away on business when this happened) and he understands his quest for knowledge and how much he loves this stuff - -says it's how he learns. Hubby has given him some old laptops and ipods and he sure has fun with those!

Oh, I'm sorry. Are you counting the on contract price? Okay. Well, throw it on the ground or drop it in a pool or give it to a child to ruin. Now go back to the store to get a replacement and see how much it costs. You also signed a contract and took on an extra monthly data plan... For a child. The fact that you have no clue how much the phone actually costs explains a lot, actually.
I'm not concerned about your wallet. You clearly have more money than sense, so rather than crying here, just go buy a replacement phone for him to ruin. While you're at it, go ahead and get him an espresso machine.

Seems like she asked a question to a problem and it was answered. I'm not sure how taking a personal shot at a newcomer to the forum accomplishes anything. Her decision to buy her son anything is hers and hers alone, why inject your opinion into it, much less insinuate that she has no sense. It comes off as aloof and petty. This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of this forum. Flame away.

Thanks a bunch for your support and from all of those who responded. I've visited various forums in my life and am well aware that there are always those few who just like to be mean and find power on these boards. I didn't come here asking for anyone's opinion on what I allow my children to do or how they spend their allowance - just needed some advice. Sincerely appreciate the great input that I have received.

The actual retail cost of the device is $639; which would also be the replacement cost of this device. The on-contract price of $199 is just a subsidized cost, which the carrier basically spreads over the length of your 2-year contract.
