Making long press of search button do voice - Motorola Droid RAZR

So im digging JB on almost every level. With the exception of one.
Is there a way to make a long press of my search button on my phone do voice search instead of just google now coming up? Not sure why google determined that a regular press and long press should do the same thing.

Voice search got replaced with Google now.

just say 'Google' on the google now. It will start the voice search. The long press is intended to be used to start google now when you're in an application (kinda like global shortcut).

Right, but is there a way to make the long press go directly to voice search?

There used to be a Tasker solution for this, but it seems JB has broken the Tasker Search Helper, as well.

Try using Tasker in conjunction with 'Assistant Event for Tasker' (free). I have it working on my phone.

Any idea how to remap search button?

I would imagine it requires an app that needs superuser access, but I haven't been able to find one. The
short press of the
Search button is useless since your can achieve the same thing by holding down the menu key.
any suggestions?

Holding down the menu key you get the keyboard. Its quite useful in emulators too.

i actually looked into it, and figured it out myself. made a flashable zip too for those who want it. my search key is now my dedicated camera button. but i lost the ability to long press search for voice search....meh i never used it that much anyway
How did you go about it? Im trying to restore the default behavior of the search button. TIA
There is an app called Button Remapper in the market. If you can't find it, let me know and ill upload it for you. It is free and requires root though.
Thanks woodrube... I searched the market and no luck. I am rooted. I installed google search and re installed it via the market. When I hit my search button from the home screen, google no longer opens. Even though I re installed it.
Why I uninstalled it was a rash act of stupidity lol
Otherwise the button works when in an app. I was hoping to restore the default behavior.
Do you have voice search? May have to download it first

I do have voice search and press + hold brings it up. Im thinking about just re-flashing my rom.
Don't need to flash your ROM.
Now that I know it isn't in the market, ill upload it tonight when I get on my PC. It has default settings as well as customized ones too for both short and long presses.
Edit: Here is the ButtonRemapper.apk Should be just what you need to remap the search button back to default.
Woodrube your a life saver! Huge thanks for uploading the file I was just backing up my data and I don't have to flash. Thanks again!

[Q] Molten ROM Voice Search Activates Screen Grabber

I've had Molten 2.1 since the day ryman released it, and it's running great but, just realized that when I hold down the search button ScreenGrabber is activated rather than Voice Search.
I flashed it over stock GB 2.3.4.
I checked ScreenGrabber for any options to disable this but there are none.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
And thanks to ryman for the awesome ROM. It runs great.

Have you tried going to settings, applications, and browse the all tab for screengrabber. select it and pick clear defaults. See if that helps, I have yet to try Molten, don't know if this will help/work. Good Luck

Sorry for the late reply.
In stock and previous versions of Molten, when I press and hold the Search hard button, it would open Voice Commands. As someone mentioned, it's great for driving and being lazy. Currently, it opens up screengrabber.
You cannot clear the defaults on screengrabber. I backed it up and uninstalled it with TB. That is a crappy work around but it does work. Although, it doesn't work with a Bluetooth hands free device. Pressing the search key used to open voice commands, now it simply calls back your most recent call.
I haven't had time to flash M2.2 but I will. Thanks again for the help!

Set Samsung Voice Command as default?

In previous versions of the Shostock ICS ROM, when I used voice commands with my Blueant Q2 headset, it automatically used Samsung Voice Command for making hands-free calls (worked great). But since I upgraded to 4.1.4, it defaults to Google Voice Dialer and then doesn't work. I can't find GVD in the applications list to deactivate nor can I find a way to make SVC the default.
Shoman didn't have any idea about the problem.
Can someone help?
Thanks in advance.
I think shoman misunderstood your original question when he responded about installing SVC yourself, but you only gave him a couple hours to respond to your clarification about setting the default before you posted over here.
Which voice command pops up for you now when you press the search button on the phone? The Google Now one that has "Search, or say Google" in the search bar or a different one?

When I press the button my Blueant Q2 headset, the Google Voice Dialer pops up. The little red circle to the right of Google then has a never-ending circling line and GVD never seems to engage.
I want SVC to pop up, not GVD.
Does that help? Can you help?
BTW, I just upgraded to Shostock 4.1.4.
Gotcha. I think I understand. Have you tried a long press on your phone's search button to pop up all search/dial options and set Samsung's to default?

I just tried long pressing Search, per your suggestion, and set Samsung Voice Talk as the default. After that, when I long press Search SVC comes up. But when I use my headset, GVD still pops up.

I do appreciate the help...
After messing around some, this seems to be a problem with 4.1.4. I use AVX as my default and hadn't gotten around to reinstalling it since I flashed shoman's latest. After restoring it, I set it to default and am having the same exact deal as you, a press on the search button opens Google Now but my headset starts the Google dialer with the spinning red circle even though my default is set to something else. A long press on the search button will open my default, though.
Just flashed back to 4.1.2 and the problem persisted, so it isn't the latest version of the Shostock ROM.
So what has changed? I don't know. But being able to voice dial while driving is essential for me and I can't do it now.
Thoughts?

It's more than that. Before Google Now, a press on the phone's search button opened whatever your default was set to (same as a long press on my Plantronics set). Now, a press always opens Google Now's search, and a long press opens your default. I could live with that, but our headsets now always open up neither, it starts the old google voice command. Pretty funky.

Hardly an "epic fail" on your part given the awesome ROM that you have created.
Any solution?
I restored back to 4.1.1 and it works great. As I need hands-free, I'll stick with that until this problem gets ironed out (or you create a JB ROM!).

How to disable long press headset button activates google now?

Hi guys, I need a little help here.
On ICS I used to skip songs on Poweramp using the headset button, but since I upgraded to Jellybean, the long press goes to Voice Search on Google Now? Is there a way to disable that? I already configured on Poweramp to use the long press, gave it high priority, but google voice continues taking place and there's no options there to disable it.
Any idea?

If you install a headset button conytol app and set the sensitivity of the buttons to your personal need it works pretty good.
This app does not only control the buttons but also the app itself, like Poweramp,, but also online players like Spotify an Rdio. Free, no ads.

I've made the app which brings back long-press functionality for the button. Headset Remapper remaps “HEADSETHOOK WAKE” key with the “MEDIA_NEXT WAKE”. In other words when you press the play/pause/accept/decline button (the one in the middle or the only one in your remote) it will be “seen” by the Android OS as the SKIP button (next song).
Having this done you can use your button again with its full functionality (I checked that it works with this app: Headset Button Controller). Remember that you need to configure the SKIP (MEDIA_NEXT) button not the the play/pause/accept/decline !
This app needs ROOT to run!

I tried the app and it didn't work for me on a US Cellular Galaxy S3. I'm not sure why. I started it, granted it root, and it said it was successful when I made the change. I rebooted, and then tested it out and holding the button still launched Google Now. I then restored the original file with the app. Then I followed these manual instructions in this thread and rebooted. I need to point out that I do not have a sec_jack.kl file, so I only edited Generic.kl. After doing the edit by hand and rebooting, long press now works the way I want and doesn't launch Google Now. :victory: I use Headset Button Controller for assigning the functions.

After installing JB "leaked version" how do I voice call someone?

On my Droid Razr, pre-JB (the "Leaked OTA JB update"), you could use the Google Search Bar and using Voice Commands say something such as:
CALL <name of business>
Examples:
CALL WALMART
CALL PAPA JOHN'S
I removed the "Google Search" widget that was there under Gingerbread and ICS because Google Now is just so much better. However, if I bring up Google Search (Google Now) and say "CALL WALMART" it will bring up a listing of Walmart stores in my area, but it won't automatically place the call. How do I get this functionality back or get Google Now to place a call?
Thank you

Yes, I'm sorry... let me try again.....
Prior to JB and Google Now, under Gingerbread, there was a widget that brought up Voice Commands (or is it "Voice Actions"). You could say things like:
CALL <NAME OF PERSON>
NAVIGATE <to name of business>
Ex:
CALL WALMART will make the phone call the closest Walmart - automatically, in one action.
Under Google Now, if I say "CALL WALMART" it does not do it in one action. I have to do the following:
Bring up Google Now
Say: CALL WALMART
Google Now then brings up a list of Walmart stores in the area (for me it listed 3 area stores)
I then have to tap the "phone" icon on the search result within Google Now.
The call gets placed.
Under Gingerbread I did not have to do this. Maybe this was a Motorola supplied widget??
Thank you.
It is kind of annoying that it brings up search results. It is one phone click away after results are posted.

Okay. I found my issue. The problem was my poor choice of an example.
It turns out that the Walmart in my town has three phone listings (main number, pharmacy, and photo center). So, the reason why it wouldn't "auto-dial" the number was because it didn't know which choice to use. If I tried something that it recognized right away, such as "CALL JIFFY LUBE" it then announced "calling" and then auto-dialed the number.
Someone please shoot me now!
