I know that our camera is the best on the market...but am wondering about getting a second phone galaxy nexus, since there's more development, has ICS, flagship phone with updates first out of all the phones.
Wondering if anyone has both phones and can provide camera picture and video quality comparison of both of these phones under controlled conditions...or if you have a link or website that has already done this please link...I could not find anything online...
Thanks
It has a faster (slightly) shutter but has a crappier (IMO) sensor. Megapixels don't really mean much but it has 5 compared to the eight on the Amaze. It also has a pentile matrix screen (nothing really to do with the camera, I just don't like it). While I plan on getting one, I DON'T plan on giving up my Amaze. I don't own a GNex but I've spent allot of time playing around with one. (Verizon). I suggest you actually check out both phones side to side and make a decision as my opinions are JUST THAT, opinions.
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!

really want the htc rezound but verizon plans are so freaking expensive...I'd have to pay 4 times the amount for the data text and talk i'm getting now...in two months I could buy another amaze with their plan prices!!!
you can search around google for quality of galaxy nexus camera quality.
The Amaze camera is more than likely compared to the iphone4s camera, not Galaxy Nexus.
Take a look at this link.
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/13/2632976/galaxy-nexus-camera-shots-because-its-sooo-disappointing
here is some Amaze photo from our own forum enjoy.

IF you are so care about development, it is better off with the Galaxy Nexus.
I don't think 5MP really doesn't matter with daily usage.
The Amaze takes pictures too clearly sometimes it bothers me.
(Especially when I've took some pictures at keyboard. I can see some dust between keys even after I have vacuumed and cleaned them. Not happy )
Question in the Title
i dont know really well with this
but i do know which one is not so preferable, that's my phone~HTC IS

I think every company's flagship phone makes reasonably good photos and it's a matter of personal taste to choose a company.
I mean - surely, there are people who will show me a difference between SGS2 photos and HTC Sensation and whatever LG's most expensive phone is but the bottom line for me is - I don't see a huge difference, people! If you want a decent camera then buy another device. Phone cameras IMO are just for taking party pictures and screwing around. They are simply not good enough for a photographer and that's about it.

iPhone 4S's camera is comparable to Canon S100, which is a top of the line compact camera. I really want the iPhone 4S's camera to be on Android.
Everything Apple is generally over rated;
And having used both the Galaxy S 2; and the iPhone 4s camera's
i can safely say the Samsung has the better picture.
My experience has been with HTC and Samsung:
Samsung smartphones take better pictures and videos. HTC uses too much compression which adds noise to photos and videos. Comparing my HTC Inspire to my Samsung Infuse (both 8MP cameras) I noticed the file sizes were smaller on the Inspire also leading to more noise.
This link is a review/comparison of the HTC Vivid and Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and includes sample photos and videos:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/HTC-Vivid-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Skyrocket_id2895
If you download and look at the original photos and videos, the Samsung does a much better job (notice the file sizes are larger too indicating less compression).
does anyone know any android phone with dedicated shutter button apart from the Xperia Arc?

I don't consider them comparable unless you're unfamiliar with cameras and using the s100 in auto mode. Even then there are plenty of situations where the s100 will beat the iphone since the s100 has a much more powerful flash, better low light capabilities, and optical zoom. If you do know your camera then the differences start to really mount up since you then get full control on the dedicated camera. I'm not fully familiar with the iphone's software controls but I'm assuming it doesn't have manual control of aperture and shutter speed. I'm hoping it has ISO control since some Android cameras have that but if it doesn't, there's another feature to include on the list.
All that said though, if you're uninterested in the details of photography and just want to snap a pic quickly for something like facebook, then ya, something like the iphone's camera is pretty decent.
Mytouch 4g slide cam is wonderful. The sgsII cam is good. Also the sensation/xe ect has a good cam.

The Mytouch 4G slide claims to have the best camera. I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly one of the best. Both the physical camera hardware and the custom software are great.
Here's a shot I took in a very dark bar (no flash): http://i.imgur.com/3c8bY.jpg
And here's a shot taken that night by an iphone 4: http://i.imgur.com/8bhHa.jpg
Since most of the pics I take end up being indoors with crappy lighting, I like the fact that my phone can cope.
Im not a huge camera phone user but here are afew pics I took recently using the auto setting on the mytouch 4g slide.

i tried to search youtube for a gps comparison but i didn't find any
so can anyone tell me which phone is better in gps?
Better is probably subjective but if you mean speed wise for getting a fix you can't go wrong with the razr. Literally takes a few seconds and uses glonas as well. I've never had any problems and use it regularly both in car and for walking. Have used it in the UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

I have both the Galaxy S 2 and Droid Razr and LG P970
Nothing between the Galaxy S 2 and Droid Razr apart from Galaxy S 2 had wifi Direct , and the WIFI does seem to get a better signal with the Galaxy S2 , I like the Droid Razr better because of build quality is much better and i find the camera is better also in the Razr, GPS i would say both do the same job for me anyway ,
Saying that the Galaxy S2 feels better in the hand than the Razr although it feels cheap and Samsung nasty
And Droid Razr seems to be getting updates a lot faster and some of the built in apps are quite good like "Smart Action"
But here is a surprise out of the lot I actually prefer my LG P970 for some strange reason , maybe its the slimmness and light feel without the cheap Galaxy S2 feeling and it has Wifi Direct and 720p recording and the 5MP camera is quite good, Icecream sandwich or Cyanogenmod9 will put it to its full potential
its also the most underrated mobile of 2011 the LG P970
a little of topic with the P970 praising but im just being honest
No comparison. The Motorola phones do a much better job than the Samsung phones when it comes to 1. Time to lock signal. 2. Ability to maintain a lock. 3. Low signal performance.
I've compared several Samsung phones and while some are better than others, I have found that other brands works better overall. So in this case the razr wins. Now, if you are taking about sound quality, that's a different story.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
i forgot to mention sound quality on the Razr is awesome compared to the Galaxy S 2
so much clearer and louder in my opinion
I came from a Samsung Charge because of issues with the Gps. Didnt have a problem with my DX2 so Motorola has my vote so far.

Touchwiz is slightly better , but blur seems to be getting better by the new release builds , needs a bit of work but then thats when themes and dodexed custom roms come in handy
Also Razr has microHDMI and Galaxy S2 dont
also the Razr is splash proof and the back is kevlar the stuff they make bulletproof vests from
RAZR has GLONASS support, SII does not (Galaxy Note does, though). GLONASS support is a massive advantage in some countries, can see twice as many satellites et cetera.

I guess the camera of S2 is better than RAZR I saw recorded video recording.
I have a Droid Razr Maxx, the GPS is fantastic - fast lock-on, great accuracy and stayed lock-on.
Use it with Endomondo and with Google Nav regularly.
Probably not a ton of comparisons for the GPS modules on the two since both the S II and Razr have GPS modules that lock on quickly and tend to work well.
My buddy has the LG G2X, lock-on on that thing is ridiculous (upwards of 5 minutes, he uses the GPS toolbox though which speeds it up (to about 1 minute on first use then instant after that)).
how does the audio quality compare between the 2? i'm only really interested in audio quality via headphones. i know it is subjective and more to do with quality of headphones used but all opinions here are gladly welcome
never mind
Dear fellow'm with a doubt in which phone to buy. Buy an Xperia S or Motorola Razr MAXX? I live in Brazil and here the analyzes of Brazilians they said the same processor has Lag in simple games is that true? You using a modified RAZR all can tell me if it really is a difference in performance and ICS JB Modified Stock ROMs for your version. Aparentimente'm more attracted by Moto Razr Maxx but to think that the processor will be weak and will have his game time lags heavy. Another is doubtful about the bootloader. The bootloader is already unlocked from the factory? Can I install a kernel that device manufactures come from?

here are some hints, as owner os razr, but I had a xperia s:
first, battery life of razr is almost double, therefore you will have more time for you
second, xperia s is not using a superamoled display, but LCD. the difference is huge in favour to razr, belive me. black IS black, not gray
third, the feeling and look of gorilla glass and Kevlar is WAY above regular glass and back plastic
about the lag in games, I didn't noticed any on both devices.
hope I've helped you to decide
cheers
I ran stock latam firmware, and now I run and under clocked and undervolted rom and even now I don't have lags playing games with heavy graphics usage like batman or modern combat 4, did have lag in vice city but it was an app bug that later solved with update.
When in was looking for a phone I first thought of the GS2 and then the xperia, finally o bought this razr on discount and right now I wouldn't change It
edit
the bootloader is in fact locked and it will most possibly remain like that, but there is a lot of work around to flash a lot of custom roms and custom recoverys; custom kernels (kexec in razr's case) are a whole other story since until now they aren't fully functional

If you ask me, i'd take Razr Maxx any day, solely just for the battery life. But there are other factor that is on Xperia S favor, mainly the cool factor and the camera module and the screen. Yeah Razr Maxx has AMOLED but the greenish nature in a low brightness and the black spots visible on a dark environment made my preference back to Sony's (or HTC with its super LCD), plus Sony openness to Android really helps XDA member around here to develop custom ROM. So that is some factor you have to take into mind.
So if you're an indoor guy with wall outlet or power bank around and like to have ROM flashing disorder, the Xperia S is definitely a cooler device to be had, but if you are a going out type of person and the one that really want a working solution, Razr Maxx is definitely a better friend to be had

Thank you. To change the Kernel do not need to unlock the bootloader? If it is possible for motorola'm really surprised by this feat. The Stock Kernel that comes on the device is not good? I think if he turns to buy ICS manufactures.
depends on what you're looking for. I'm gone from a charging place for around 18+ hrs a day, so I love the battery of the Razr Maxx, and can always overclock it. If you're a person who wants solid gaming though, I'd put a bet more so on the Experia. I've never had a lag on games on mine, but I've never really used high-graphic games on it either- use my nexus 7 for that.

As a sony past user i disagree. Xperia S and razr maxx excels in each own ways. Razr for example has no gyro, and no fm radio. So nobodys perfect. In what application I could serve a gyroscope? I think of a good one for games and the battery that lasts well and I have a good image definition. I've seen it is one AMOLED screen greenish well actually I do not like it much because the colors do not appear as they really are. But then again I really like to apply and modify Android ROM. Can you tell me how long it takes to complete your Razr Maxx load? And if the official update has already JB atralhos bar Statos.

Totally agree. Not to mention the design and as I sad the quality of materials. Sony looks good only in pictures and reviews. In reality looks and feels cheap.
Vivid colours? Maybe so. But still you cannot compare lcd with amoled. If you want to see black on s screen, razr is the solution.
You can use gyro for photosphere app for 4.2.1.
Camera is better on sony, yes. Bluetooth, not
Also I think you need to test both of them a bit to see for yourself. Just for a few minutes, it should be enough
1. the only kernels that can be flashed on razr are only moto's signed ones, however there's a method to load another custom kernel over the stock one and this method is Kexec, but don't expect too much of it at least in short term; but even on stock you can overclock, load other governors, load other scheduler, undervolt and similar stuff so stock is good enough.
2. the hdmi output doesn't send 1080p if the video wasn't filmed with the phone itself, otherwise it downscales the video and then send it at a lesser resolution, I don't remember which resolution was but somewhere between 480p-720p

Well with the brightness set at 50% or more, you'll get the best quality from amoled though. But prepare for increased drain (which shouldn't be a problem with razr maxx). Yes gyro will be useful for 4.2, but with current roadmap, seems like 4.1.2 is the end of the road for razr series officially.
Razr boot time is actually longer than i like it to be, about 45 sec to 1 minute.
One fact that i like about razr camera is that you get less color noise compared to sony exmor sensor. the noise is still there though, but less colorized though. Sure it's slower to start too but the end result with steady hands, i vote for razr camera.

Friend me to thinking more in gaming performance and battery life than the quality of the camera. As I've seen the comments of my dear friends here at XDA and soon nobody complained of lags. With that I already am more relaxed about the processor from Motorola. Also think about the battery life because I think lagged having to always carrying your phone. I've been watching some JB Custom ROM for Motorola RAZR MAXX and greatly appreciated ROMs. Can you tell me about the quality and pitch against the Xperia S. The Xperia S is louder and with more quality than the Moto Razr Maxx? To phone into thinking that I can play without worrying about battery consumption and performance. I'm about to buy a Motorola Razr Maxx, but also to the doubts about the Xperia S. To think that your Xperia S with appropriate modifications of ROM and Kernel I can have a good battery life as Moto Razr Maxx.

By the accounts I'm doing here in Brazil the two devices are in the same price range around R $ 1.400 reais. But all ta considering the Moto Razr Maxx ta winning not because of the quality of the camera but the useful life of the battery Maxx is really very good. I have a satisfactory drainage WT19 and I think that bothers having to always carrying your phone. Now, for what I am seeing the Motorola Razr Maxx will satisfy my use as it has a good processor and good battery life. With the screen Amoled. Now I do not know much about pixes resolution. Motorola is lower in density pixes'll realize what do with this lack of pixes by density.

It's kinda funny what google translate does with your portuguese -> english
You can always fastboot to stock to claim warranty in any case, custom roms do void the warranty but after fastbooting stock they won't notice nothing so you and your warranty are safe.
I won't get my hopes too high on getting 1080p out of the razr in normal use; maybe near 720p but you can see the difference, it's not that bad but neither stunning, I don't know how the xperia S handles the hdmi output to compare tho.
About AMOLED screen resolution 256ppi is not bad (I even think is good); but is Pentile so If you look from very very near you will notice it grainy, in normal use you won't see that
