[GUIDE][P768] Bootloader Unlock Method - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

the variant of p768 can have unlocked bootloader by using AREMCEE's method of unlocking bootloder. Keep in mind while on Jellybean official rom your camera will not work as this is the only hardware difference. thanks to thomasoeli for inadvertently being the guniea pig for this method.
To unlock bootloader use method here .it will work with p768.
1.First use the guide to flash jellyben onto your devices

Luckily, P768 users can recover Camera Issue as per his post. .
Just put a warning in your OP as "Do at your own Risk" to be at safer side.

zzz! i think no need unlock ics , wait for jelly bean

We don't need to wait 30 minutes ?

Can this unlock be used to test out the CM10 builds on the P768?

i'm just wondering choosing which JB Rom to flash on P768 @[email protected]

great idea for unlocking the bootloader.
now the only thing we need is someone to port p768 camera files/libs to p760 roms.
who will be that kind?

Yes,it will be SWEET if someone could port p768 camera files/libs, HOPE comes soon!

Okay, Ive followed all of the guide and it worked. The only issue is that I left my WIFI running before I did it all, so when JB booted up, the phone updated all the apps to JB versions, after flashing back to ICS, the phone refused to boot, so I did a hard reset and then everything was fine. Bootloader unlocked. For some reason after doing all this, when I connect the phone to the PC, it says its a LG-P760 after flashing back to my 768 V10E rom?
I think you should add into the guide that you should turn off all data to avoid auto updates (if enabled)

I see you in four to five different threads doing various things at the same time, and I have replied you in most of them also.
I am sure you are gonna mess it pretty hard and make one fully bricked phone. May be you will be the first one to enter in "hall of fame" kidding. this phone is unbrickable but that does not mean you should deliberately try bricking it. he he he

Haha, this is true. I've been doing a lot of things because I really wanted Jelly Bean, and I was trying to get every feature jelly bean offered in case they didn't release the P768 JB update. Now they have released it, I'll stop now and enjoy a relatively stock experience (apart from root + cwm). I also really enjoy doing things to the phone, getting more features out of it etc. It gives me a little buzz
I think I may have already done some things I shouldn't have. The phone has 3 different model names now. Under most it is still the p768. When I connect to the pc, it is a p760, and in some apps, it is a U2. It still works fine though.I'm going to fully flush everything out and start again. And I'm only ever flashing 768 KDZs/ROMs now.
Hopefully I won't be entering any halls of fame for the first bricked L9

LG fastboot for P768
My understanding is that the LG P768 variant, unlike the P760, does not have LG fastboot in rom. Hence the need to flash the P760 rom to the P768 phones to access LG fastboot, unlock the bootloader, and then re flash a LG P768 rom.
Nevertheless, many have managed to root the P768 and have installed CWM.
My question is whether it is possible to use CWM to flash LG fastboot on a rooted P768?

From what I understand, its not something which is flashable. I'm pretty sure its deeper in the phone. Lelus said it didnt work like that. The fastboot mode is just not accessable/present on P768's it seems.

[Q] Root official ICS(updated with SUS)

Is there a way to root my officialy updated to ICS, Xperia Mini(ST15i) without unlocking bootloader?(in order to downgrade etc...) I just want to root my xperia mini without messing up with the warranty....Any way to root it with locked bootloader? (4.1.B.0.431)
Thanks in advance
You have to downgrade to Gingerbread, root it and then upgrade to ICS using THIS tutorial.
There could be a different way: you should flash the 4.0.3 kernel (for example the Arc one), but I can't find the tutorial. Use the search button and see if you can find it

downgrading needs unlocked bootloader... :/ i had bricked my mini some time ago because i tried to downgrade with locked... (( any other way?
Thanks
EDIT: flashing xperia arc's or Neo V's for example would brick my phone....wouldn't it? (and it also needs bootloader unlock...so i don't think i would do that... BUT thanks for your help mate
No, flashing a .ftf does NOT need an unlocked bootloader. You need to unlock it only if you want to flash a custom kernel, but for custom ROMs you can use flashtool.
Same for the 4.0.3 kernel. It's a stock kernel, so you can flash it via flashtool
It WILL end in bootloop, though. The tutorial says you can use DoomLord's root kit anyway, root the phone and then flash again the 4.0.4 kernel. But find it and read it carefully, cause I didn't try it and I can't assure you it will work.
I tried the first one I suggested, though, and my bootloader is locked!

man i have a problem...when i place my phone into flashmode (down key) it disconnects on its own...and that's why i bricked my phone long time ago....now i am afraid to do that i have installed the flashtool drivers from Flashtool/drivers.... but they mustn't work for my mini....any solution please give me the drivers you use for your Mini and work with it if you can i would really appreciate that!
What do you mean, it disconnects? How much time does it take for it to disconnect? Mine does the same. If I plug it and wait for a minute or so doing nothing, it disconnects. But if I start flashing a ROM it doesn't.
The drivers I installed are in \Flashtool\drivers.

It doesn't. At least, mine doesn't! And I flashed firmware twice a day in the last week
Anyway, both ways need the use of flashtool... so if you don't want to try it, you can't root ICS

Pfff i'm a bit scared.....there is no hope that there will be somewhen another way to root...?
No, I'm sorry. Anyway, just follow this steps:
1) DON'T plug your phone.
2) Open flashtool
3) Click the lightning icon and select flashmode
4) Select the .ftf you want to flash: if you want to downgrade, select wipe data. If you want to flash the 4.0.3 kernel, unckeck wipe data and check "exclude" for everything apart from kernel. Which means you'll only flash the kernel
5) Start: you'll be asked to plug your phone. Plug it now in flashmode. This way you'll avoid it being unplugged.
Flashing will start, and your phone won't be unplugged. I suppose it's unplugged automatically when you're not doing anything, it's the same for me, but I repeat, whenever I flash something (kernel, whole ROM, whatever) everything just goes fine

That's strange. Anyway, if you installed PC Companion you have adb drivers. Install flashmode drivers from Flashtool installazion folder, you find the executable in \Flashtool\drivers. If Windows prompts you that the drivers are dangerous, just install them anyway.
What I can say is that you DON'T need to unlock your bootloader to use flashmode in Flashtool. Otherwise, my phone would have exploded long ago
Now let me tell you this: if you are SURE you did everything the right way, and still your phone got bricked, then maybe you shouldn't try. you never know.
If you tried to to something you didn't know how to do, you probably made a mistake, and that's why the phone got bricked. In this case, I'd give it a try.
But we're not able to see your phone and test it, so whatever you do, unfortunately, you always do it on your own risk.
I couldn't be more sincere.

On all probability you are correct.
They (The service centre people) flashed a firmware using Flashtool. That's what they must have did. See. I will explain things a bit.
Your phone has some memory in it (this corresponds to what was known as phone memory in older phones). This memory is of Read Only type. That is ROM. Now, of all the types of ROMs, androids have EEPROM. That stands for Electronically Erasable Programmable ROM. So you can electronically erase the data stored in the ROM and write new data on it (even though it is called Read Only). This process of writing new data on the ROM is called flashing.
For flashing, the tool that is available to us as an open source, is Flashtool. Using it we can flash ROMs into our phones, erasing the earlier ones.
Now, Sony will not want us to flash Cyanogen Mod to our phones. So they have made up the concept of locking the bootloaders. With locked bootloaders custom ROMs can not be flashed to your phone. This is because most custom ROMs are designed for a specific Kernel (the intermediate between the OS and the hardware), and flashing a custom kernel requires unlocked bootloaders.
If you want, you can flash firmwares (ROMs + Kernels released by Sony) even if you are on locked bootloader, as long as the firmware files are signed by Sony.
This restriction however is against the OpenSource spirit of Android, and thus Sony gives us the scope to unlock bootloader at the cost of loosing the warranty, and the DRM keys (search google for that).
Now coming to your problem of unability to flash properly, make sure that you have installed all the drivers. For that open up /drivers folder in /flashtool and install the .exe there. Also install the adb drivers of your device. For that have PC Companion installed on your PC. Flashing will happen properly then.
Thanks,
Rick

You, and all developers/people here, are simply awesome!.... But this sh*t with unlocking bootloader and loosing warranty is so....stupid....I think i will give it a try and i am gonna sure thank you.... Somethink else....my phone has also a problem on the screen while scrolling....do you know if that is a hardware or a firmware problem?
What do i mean when i say scroll problem:
1st example: While browsing the Internet and scroll with fast moves, links are pressed on its own and new tabs are opened,as links are pressed.
2nd example: While i scroll the app drawer, fast s make apps open without my will....
3nd exapmle and the most representative: While playing fruit ninja and do fast moves to cut the fruits, the touchscreen doesn't even fell that i touch the screen!!! I do fast moves to cut the fruits and nothing happens!! As a result i always lose! (just joking....)
My phone is fast and really smooth only when my moves are slow....any thoughts about that? :/
Thanks once again for your BRAVE help!
You have a Mini, right? That's a hardware problem. Very common, even if not everyone realizes it. Check THIS thread for a (possible?) solution.

[SOLVED] [Q] Bricked LG L9 P769, locked BL, JB, Rooted, LG Bootloop

Hey all,
I have a CWM backup of my current rom and have backups of apps and data but am stuck at a bootloop.
As I have read countless articles, it seems my error is because I have a locked bootloader(not actually sure). Though, I only tried to flash
clockcycle's wiped v20d cwm backup file. It failed part way saying it couldn't write to /system.
Since then, I haven't been able to fully enter CWM. just see the red triangle with the droid guy on his back.
I have read Cmahendra's unbricking guide but it doesn't work as I have installed JB and even the tips to unplug, wait 10s and reopen the program to flash again it still won't work. Still stops at 15% saying error connecting to the phone.
There is a similar thread which had this exact problem which said to
use the online method to recover your phone since I had already installed JB. I edited the hosts file to remove the fake offline server and opened up the b2CAppsetup.exe, clicked on customer support,
entered my model LGP769BK and my S/N and it began to start the process and 'analyze' then crashed and said "updating is not possible any longer due to a fatal error while the LG mobile phone software Update"
I've tried to search this out myself and not waste any space but I'm at loss here. If anyone has any help, it would be much appreciated
as I don't have a phone while this is not working.
I've tried all the ways to to hard reset, master reset and still I get the droid guy on his back. I can get to S/w mode like all the other posts say to do but none of those fixes seem to work for me. Am I missing something?
Do I have any options here? I have kind of read that I should just unlock the bootloader but I don't think that applies in my case as I can't turn on my phone fully.
edit: for the online method(LG support tool), it basically cancels when it goes to the 'downloading' phase --> this is what I've seen as most of the answers but doesn't work
Upon further reading,
many seemed to need to replace their u-boot and x-loader
I did so and installed fastboot using Lelus' script here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41768774&postcount=1
I used option 6 which allowed me to flash the u-boot and x-loader from p760(works with my 769 and others as it says in the options) for JB
I'm not sure if I needed this as I don't have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm not sure of commands in fastboot but I ran
fastboot devices and it showed something
I also ran: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and I put one of my cwm backups in the "yours" folder
After I activate fastboot, it brings me to the C:\fastboot\yours folder
I assume this is for me to put my intended files in but I'm unsure if I should use my cwm backup or something else?
After it flashed the recovery img, I sent a fastboot reboot command
but it still went back to the droid lying down with a red triangle.
As some of you may see, I'm not too great with this but I feel like I'm close. Does anybody have an idea of what I should be doing?
should I flash an update.zip?
I don't know many commands but hopefully this gets me going in the right direction.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
I guess your cmw restore formatted your system but couldnt load the new system
the recovery you run with a locked bootloader uses a technique called 2nd init which i think is somewhere stored in the system partition. so when the recovery formatted the system, it lost itself too.
I've had a similar problem. the way out would be booting into the SW upgrade mode--switch off the device, remove the battery, remove the usb cable. press the volume up button and connect the phone to the computer. wait for a couple of seconds and then insert the battery.
you should be in the SW upgrade mode
now use the B2C client. if it gives an option to upgrade, use that otherwise, go to the customer support menu and press recovery phone
I have already done earlier. It may have gotten lost in my frenzy of information. I have put the phone into software mode, as you said, and it won't work either; There's no option to click upgrade because it's JB(V20D) and when I click recovery phone and enter my imei, LG mobile support tool(B2capp.exe) analyzes and then has a 'fatal error'
Since I flashed the new u-boot and x-loader my screens are all backwards/mirrored. Maybe the tool flashed an unlocked u-boot and x-loader if that's possible.
Is a recovery possible by fastboot?
I have a clean and full copy of my cwm recovery as well as apps and data backed up, I just need to get this phone in working order

If you fastboot flash the u-boot and x-loader from p769(ICS) it should go thru with the offline flash detailed in cmahendras guide.

I have the updated kdz fw upd .zip from the unbrick and root thread as well as downloaded a new, official B2C client but they all still hang at the download part during phone recovery.
Tablechair, that did the trick.
Is this because the tool we use to flash for the offline method doesn't recognize the x and u-boot loaderse of JB?
After I installed the ICS boot loaders, my software upgrade mode wasn't mirrored anymore.
I did as tablechair and flashed the V20D.
Does anyone understand why this problem happened in the firstplace? Maybe I didn't get a full copy of clockcycle's backup cwm
or should I have not flashed his recovery in the first place since I didn't have an unlocked bootloader?
Again thank you for all your help and if anyone can provide answers to my other supplemental questions, that'd be great.
Off to root and probably unlock bootloader to be sure.

Not yet. having problems flashing a kdz again. I've tried the 2 different software modes, as well as setting emerg and diag but still getting stuck at 15% again.
Do i have to replace my uboot and xloader with the ICS ones every time I want to use the offline flash method?
edit: yup, after replacing with ICS loaders again i'm able to flash using software upgrade. will update on whether I can restore cwm

Things don't always go according to plan, maybe his Clockworkmod backup was made from the touch version and he didn't have artas182x second init recovery installed. So when the cwm failed the first time, did you try to restore your cwm backup?

I realized I misread your question. When I flashed before the incident, it failed to write to system and I didn't restore my other folder. I rebooted and it was all missed up. Anyway, now that I've got everything back and now with an unlocked bootloader, i was able to recover my old image. However, data isn't working so I have to find the radio to flash as I recall reading in other threads.
Can someone explain in laymen terms why this is? recap, i was on unlocked bl rooted jb and I flashed my old cwm backup when I was rooted but had a locked bl. My apps and messages were all there but the radio was different. I'd understand if I was going from ICS to JB but I was on JB both times. The only difference being a locked BL. It's got to be something about the Radio from p760 or V20B that didn't work on my earlier backup or something like that because the layout status bar is different with a "data" button and showing H instead of 4g(which are the same afaik).
Since, I restored to my backup from after my bootloader unlock and root so data is working showing 'H' with the different layout
Also, I had problems backing up and restoring until I noticed that it works better when I power off the phone and do the manual commands to enter recovery as opposed to using the app to send me to recovery(where I incurred /system backup errors).
My last question is which cwm recovery should I use? I currently have the one for a locked bootloader installed as per Artas182x's website. On that post he has a link for an unlocked bootloader recovery on the xda forums but that thread was updated to not working. Are there any disadvantages to me using a locked bootloader cwm recovery?
I don't think I have any option but to try it as I want to flash CM10.1 for p769. I also read that if your bootloader is unlocked, you can download the cwm from the googleplay. If this is true, can I just install over or should I uninstall the Artas182x locked bootloader one????
update: have to remove l9 recovery by deleting the appropriate system folders and then flash the appropriate .img through adb commands
Help.

Although I might be late, I have the same problem and the same phone and I really need help. I have a soft bricked phone lg optimus l9 and I had the same problems that you had exactly... Which is weird exept I don't have Clock Work Mod or anything ... If you get this I would really appreciate some help. Thanks
yup me too
I finally got software upgrade to work with my lg p769 that was security error cuz i still haven't unlocked the bootloader, if i knew what a good job lg and T-Mobile did in locking it i would have waited and got a g3 that my buddy rooted in like 5 min and unlocked the boot....
What worked for me is this LG FLASH TOOL 2014 THREAD ON XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
flashed both the 20H and 20D successfully i uninstalled everything lg in the control panel first though.
Hope this works for you cuz i was struggling on and off for a month to get this far lol
the 2014 tool ultimately worked for me too, once I fixed a couple things. I had rooted and forgotten to unlock, so it was at Security Error, and it would also disconnect at 15% .. in the 2014 tool, I had to install all the updates even though I'm in windows 7 or it would keep doing it. All good now.
I have been trying all these methods and I am still not able to get in the S/W upgrade mode. The only thing I am getting from the device is being able to put it fastboot mode (The inverted one). I really want to revive this phone
Thanks in advance for any help given

Hey, it's been ages since I have done any of this but IIRC, if you can get into fastbood mode u can still get into software mode,
- turn phone into fastboot mode
- open the software upgrader thing as you normally do
- maybe switch emerg to diag or something like that
- this part is where it's slightly different than the normal way(same program but u select a different option than the default 1st option on
I think if yoiu look through the tutorials it does mention an alternative method for getting into software mode
in one instance in my past, i had to reflash the ICS boot drivers so the software installer would recognize that
the flashing of the ICS boot drivers is done through fastboot. Should be a post in my history where I asked a question regarding this.
Sorry for the chaos but maybe this will help you get in the right direction since I don't know any of your phone history and what you've done etc
best of luck mate

Hey, I have been trying it with the fastboot but it keeps timing out and not allowing me to finish. One thing I should let you know is that, ever since I had put the device in fastboot, I am not able to get back the S/W upgrade mode. Dont know if that will help in seeing what my problem is or if you want me to explain everything from the beginning again, I am more than happy to.
Have you followed the steps that I linked to in the first 3 posts of this thread?
Follow the steps to flash the ICS bootloaders in fastboot and then you can do the fastboot trick for getting the software to recognize your device.
Right now your phone has the JB boot loader on it and is thus not recognized by the software.
recap:
step 1: flash the ICS bootloaders in fastboot (look at the linked thread in post 2)
step 2: use the software in emerg or diag mode but sitll follow the same steps as the tutorial. I think my earlier posts should explain precisely.
if you dont flash the ICS bootloaders, it won't be recognized by the KDZ installer

Please read about our phone in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242239
Your phone is the same as P768 but come with difference baseband. Mine also P768f and if you are on JB 4.1.2, you can easily root it using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338816.
You must unlock bootloader before install any custom rom. read about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313794
If you want to unlock boot loader, please follow every step carefully it should work at first try. But many people fail to unlock their bootloader so the result may vary.

1. Normally later version is better. But if you upgrade to JB you will notice reduce in battery life (V20A, V20B, V20C).
2. You do this when you want to restore stock rom. In most case it will restore your phone from soft-brick if you do something wrong with it. There's also LG mobile support tool that can recover you phone.
3. Please read my previous post about how to offline flash kdz

1.in the offline flash guide it says that flashing doesn't loose your phone data - as far as i know everytime i flashed my device with a stock rom (not LG phones) it always removed my data and booted up as if you bought a new phone so how in LG phones you don't lose data?
2.how do i check if my bootloader is locked or unlocked?
3.if my BL is locked so will this thread:

3.how do i install cyanogenmod on this phone? cause on the cyanogenmod's website i only saw p760

1. If your data is on sdcard, you don't lose it. And for internal data if you don't do factory reset with erase sdcard option your data on internal won't be deleted. But you should take precaution by do CWM backup before messing with these stuff.
2. Can know how to boot your phone into S/W update mode right? It print at top of that screen. If you don't know how to do it. Shutdown your phone, remove battery, hold down vol+ then connect usb cable, hold down vol+ for about 5 sec. S/W update mode show up.
3. For this and all you other question, most of it are answered in L9 forum please take your time a while to read and search for it. I've build unofficial CM and PAC for P768 in "Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769 Android Development" forum. And there're patch from me in general forum to make CM based rom for P760 work on P768.
PS. Please read every step in that thread carefully because you can soft-brick your phone if you do something wrong. But don't worry you can recover it in almost all case but hardware problem.

No Download Mode - Only Fastboot

Hi,
I tried to upgrade my US998 from Oreo to Pie using LGUP patched. The upgrade process went well until the phone restarted and have this error message:
"Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot..."
I did try using LG Bridge to fix = not working
I did try fastboot boot laf.img (using extracted laf from H93031a_00_OPEN_EU_OP_1105) not working.
Any other solution?
Thanks
This Post got recommended to me. I am a Samsung user so my answer will probably be very stupid.
If you have fastboot, why don't you flash a recovery and a custom rom? Ik stupid but it's the only thing that comes to my mind since i don't have a LG phone lol

I'm not sure. Normally I access download mode using volume up and power button. The download mode was there for a sec and then the screen back to
"Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot..."
again.
Ah ok so now I understand.
But why don't you unlock your bootloader then if fastboot works? Do you know for sure that TWRP doesn't work?
I really want to help but I don't have a LG phone

Unfortunately my LG V30 is US region. The official bootloader site not support my phone. Thanks for your info anyway
I'm not sure why a Samsung user was recommended this post. And no offense to the Samsung user, but the process for unlocking, etc is VERY different for Samsung than it is for LG... so I recommend not worrying about that. Believe me, I know, because I'm researching switching to a Samsung in the future, and the process is very different!
That being said, the best resource here is the WTF thread with the post by ChazzMatt. That post has everything you need in one place.
jacoozie, the error you're getting indicates that you had a non-stock phone when you flashed the KDZ on an unlocked phone. For this reason, it's no surprise you got this error - the phone must be COMPLETELY STOCK for a stock KDZ flash. I'm guessing you had TWRP or something else installed, which is causing this problem. Once you unlock, you cannot just flash things willy nilly... and generally you don't flash with KDZ unless you're trying to change models (aka Frankenstein) or on the way to a custom ROM.
It sounds like you've done some unlocking rooting... if so, I recommend you start over with the WTF thread, read it VERY CAREFULLY and ENTIRELY and then reflash as instructed there. I'm guessing you may need to go back to KDZ Nougat and then work your way forward. If you have questions, ask in that thread... but you shouldn't have any questions as the thread is VERY complete (been updated all the time with very detailed information, so everything is in there).

I didnt install TWRP or any recovery tools to my phone. My phone bootloader still locked thou.
I have read the WTF thread but the problem is I cant get into my Download mode.
Ok, what steps are you using to try to get into download mode? Presumably turning off the phone, then holding the volume up button and plugging in the USB cable (other end already connected to a Windows computer), correct? If that doesn't work, can you try other USB cables? Sometimes a bad cable could prevent the phone from going into download mode.
