According to the current senario i will say Sony.. Yes, Samsung was very supportive initially.. But now a days Sony seems to extend more support than any other OEM.. dont forget that Sony was chosen as the OEM of the year by XDA last time.. .. And the latest news is that CM backing out from supporting SG S4.. for obvious reasons..

Exactly. Sony has been consistently becoming more awesome. A lot of the CM devs decided not to develop for Exynos devices because of improper documentation and source code for the processors by Samsung. The Snapdragon processor version will certainly get CM, and the other one will also likely get it. Like the Galaxy Note 2. A lot of prominent Samsung device devs refused to develop for it because it was troublesome, so someone else took it up. So yeah, in light of things Sony is the most proactive and actually seems to care about third party development.

Samsung, Please Release Source Code!!

This is a Google+ post asking Samsung to release the source code for the bluetooth/audio/MHL/dock/display devices in our phone. If you're not aware, this code is NOT in the open source kernel. They are modules that load separately. We need this source code to make our phone the PERFECT Android phone. Cyanogenmod Dev Team can do wonders with this code! Please +1 this post or even make your own. We need to Samsung to hear us! Not all of us are programmers (definitely not me), so we need to contribute in other ways!
Jim
OccupySamsung!
I would say that the requested code might have some (if not all) proprietary code and even some "secret" code when it comes to the NHL part for the hdmi encryption...
But I could be completely wrong about that...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Its possible, but any code drop would help. And the encryption you're thinking of would be HDCP and that should be handled by the chipset not the software.

Just sent Samsung mobile USA a message on Facebook about the source code, hope they respond.
Please people, let's get Samsung to recognize us! We need this source to make our phones the best. I know I say that every couple of posts. I just hope that the guy above this post gets lots of 'likes' on his Facebook post to Sammy. Help him out guys/gals!
Jim
I actually once managed to get a message from a guy at Samsung Support telling me to reach out to SamsungJohn for developer needs...
I sent him a pretty nasty message back, going into post-by-post detail of SamsungJohn's complete failure to provide any help whatsoever to the developer community.
I'm seriously thinking that my next device will be a Sony - As much as I hate Sony in general, SE went above and beyond in terms of supporting the Cyanogenmod team, leading to their entire 2011 lineup being almost fully supported by CM. Meanwhile, Samsung sends a few CM team members devices as a publicity stunt and doesn't bother at all to provide any followup support.

I saw the post you are talking about. And I sent a Twitter to SamsungJohn and never heard back. I know I keep talking about this, but something has to be changed. I'm on UnNamedROM right now, and while it's good, it's not CM. Maybe if Sammy releases ICS for the I9100/I777 then they'll release some more code for our phones. Probably don't want CM to show them up on releases. But either way, we need to make Samsung aware of our demands. And Entropy, thank you VERY much for your efforts with NFC, and WiFi tether. It's much appreciated!

No, it hasn't been released (except for the GPL kernel source) - nothing ICS-related, none of the audio libraries or anything like that have source code.

Are there devs trying to unlock this tab?

its good and all the AiO tool, wich works like a charm, but i ( and not only me ) wants a unlocked bootloader so we can flash other roms, better roms faster and more stable, Anyone trying?
I think Condi is working on this, It would be really nice to see CWM on this
Yes indeed,
and here i was assuming this was already done since i've never come to this section before.....was almost tempted to trade my touchpad for the tablet S...keep going devs....you might just manage to tempt me
it's locked..
on sony's official site, there is a list shows devices that can unlock the bootloader, but tablet s is not on that list..
my 4.0.3 tablet s, can't be rooted, it's annoying!!

We could do with ur help!
Why don't all Android manufactures unlock the bootloaders? That way devs can take the load off Sony software devs and cook up great roms to keep the plebs happy .
Its a win win situation.

Because for all kinds of warranty and legal issues, someone like Sony would prefer to have a far greater control over what software their hardware is running and a locked bootloader is the first step to that.

Motorola are doing this, they sell "developer" devices, with the bootloader unlocked before you get the phone!
---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------
Look at this
Sony do it too.. All of the xperia range (unbranded) can be unlocked with a simple tool provided by Sony.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
I am also in support of starting a petition. What bad can it do? Sony has unlocked bootloaders for a lot of their recent smartphones. If a petition is signed by enough people, they will reconsider and allow Tablet S/P to be unlocked too!
I'm all for trying, but just warning people not to get their hopes up for the petition working. The Tablet S just hasn't sold that[/I] well, and the subset of Tablet S owners on XDA is even smaller. Still worth a shot, I guess.
I will write up a text, you guys will verify it and we will begin a petition. Absolutely nothing to lose. We can also send it around to various android sites to gain some publicity...
Break it! Crack it! Unlease the beast inside!!...
O my god it would be so nice to flash a other rom..
Something like a rom with Touchwiz UI like my Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 ,
That would be great

How can someone add developers to a phone? Xda isn't a company that has developers that get paid to make custom roms and kernels. Developers here are all volunteers. They don't get paid for what they do. They develop for phones they have.
Show some respect.

you will have to wait its still a new phone even unlocking the phones sim lock hasnt been out long and is only possible through SETools.
give it a while and once ICS is out and the devs get hold of the phone it will happen, altho we have to wait for ICS 1st!!! lol
Once it has ICS you may see more devs. Problem is the phone isnt widely available for free on all carriers and it isnt the flagship model. Most lowend phones receive less dev support.

I'd say that it has to do primarily with sales, not with the status of the phone as high or low end. The Xperia Play was a mid-high end when it came out, and it didn't have a huge community since it sold poorly. The HTC Wildfire and Xperia X8 were thought as mid-low end or low end models and they still have a following: they sold decently well. One has to take into account other factors as well: whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked (this basically blows Motorola out of the water), whether the company is overall hostile or friendly towards devs (Sony has made huge strides to please them, which has shown nice results), the difficulty of making ROMs themselves (Chinese companies have tablets which are easily hackable, but they tend not to publish source code)...

Why so little?

Hi guys it's me again,
I've been around XDA a bit and found that the forum has one of the lowest activity rates I've seen. I mean this phone was hugely popular! Why so few people are here? I think we need to kick some life back into this old dog and show people it's not gone yet. Where are all the developers at? This thing needs more Roms we can't expect Psyke83 to do EVERYTHING!
When I was using this device a few months ago most devs are at madteam's boards, one of those few devices that doesn't have the majority of activity at xda!

Might take a look over there... still wish it had more XDA activity though...
AW: Why so little?
It's because everyone who buys another phone, sells his g5 and yes some time ago it was popular, but it's like all low-activity phones (Galaxy y, ...): their forums will all "die" and it doesn't matter how much ROMs we port or develop. This is my opinion...

Any devs working with the HTC1 or S4?

I am due for an upgrade June 1st, and one of the biggest things I am looking at is the dev communities for each. I absolutely despise Touchwiz, which means, if I get the S4, I'm unlocking it literally the second it is in my hand, On the flipside, I would like to keep up with Android versions, so the 4.1.2 on the HTC One irks me a bit(so I'd unlock that as well). Anyway, I was wondering if any of the devs here are working on, or planning to get and work on, either of these devices. It would be kind of nice to keep the same ROMs across devices if possible. Thanks!

hey my upgrade is June 1st as well lol
i think im going to get the S4. looks like $149.99 for Sprint?
tried last week (about 15days til 1st) said i could get can early upgrade for $100. smh
today is about 9 days i guess, wonder if they will let me upgrade without that fee
As soon as there is an unlock for the ATT Galaxy S4 I bet Ktoonsez will start making kernels for that. he has a great kernel for the S3 and I know he owns an S4 now.
