[Q] - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good evening,
I'm having some trouble with my Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830i) and I seek help to remedy the problems.
Few details of my device.
S5830i
Rooted
AceCream v1.4 ROM
I'm having issues with the memory.
I'm constantly reminded that I'm low on memory and often text messages get rejected until I clear a loads of text messages.
The odd thing is, I have 15MB free of internal memory and 13GB free external memory (microsdhc).
So far I've done the following
Default install location micro SD card - (using ABD)
Transferred apps to micro SD card using Link2SD - apart from those that refuse or do not work properly.
Cleared Cache
Not too long ago I read upon the HTC wildfire roms and SD partitioning and apparently a portion of it is displayed as internal, perhaps you could enlighten me.
Please do recommend possible solutions, I don't mind deleting everything or installing different rom etc.

AW: [Q]
Try the Data2ext script in the developement section. It uses the ext-partition as internal memory. No lags

1. I created a 2GB ext2 partition using MiniTool.
2. Then went ahead & flashed the Data2sd-ext Fixed.zip from recovery menu.
Then rebooted but it would not go past the Rafeal kernel boot logo.
I've reinstalled AceCream v1.4 so phone is running fine, still seeking help on my problem.

You can try excalibur rom. Since it only uses 50mb internal memory.

Backup your apps with Titanium Backup and do a wipe data. Then try flashing the script again.

Yeah, you missed the part of the MoDaCo ROM release notes that tells you that A2SD is installed as part of the ROM.

That's 'cos it isn't an option - you have to repartition your card and then A2SD (built into MCR2.2) moves your apps when it detects the ext3 partition.
You need to partition your SD card using computer, the phone itself can only 'format' the card which is no good. As per http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/A2SD:
The SDcard will need two partitions, the first Fat / Fat32 & the second Ext2 For the Ext2 partition I wouldn't go higher than 1.5GB cuz you may run into some issues. I was staying around the 500MB / 750MB area & it was working nice. As all the guides I've read state not to exceed the 1.5GB Marker.

Although a lot of guides say to use Ext3, Ext2 works fine for me. Remember, only newly (re)installed apps will be put onto the SD card- the old ones stay on the phone's own memory.

Incorrect if using MCR2.x; preinstalled apps are also moved.
Only if moving from an earlier Modaco ROM, everyone else has to wipe first. If Fezy had not partitioned his card first then his apps would be installed to internal memory and I don't think that partitioning the card subsequently will cause those apps to be moved to it.
Hi thanks for all replies your assistant is much appreciated. As i'm new to android (coming from symbian) I was doing so much research i ended up getting confused with all the stuff i saw. But just the day before yesterday actually realised what you just said. I had decided to manually create a partition on computer and did it up to ext 3 etc but thought it didnt work because again i tried to use da apps2sd application to move the apps ( i know "what a noob") and hadn't realised that the applications had alrdy transferred (i only realsied later when i saw 93mb of free phonestorage space) so i ended up doing it all again and as u can gess i lost all my applications lolz, but i had a backup created beforehand so it worked ou .
Thanks again for the help shluggity and squiffsquiff really appreciate it guys.
p.s all the preinstalled apps got moved first time hence me losing all the apps when i tried it again.

[Q] Internal SD card not accessible on RESURRECTION REMIX 1.8.1

Hi there!
I just switched from litening rom 2.7 with siyah 3.1.2 kernel to the newest version of ressurection remix rom 1.8.1. I did factory reset and all the cache wipes. All is working well and I must say that this is the best rom i've had so far...
Apart from the fact that my internal SD is not recognized (I don't have an external SD card). The internal SD is available in recovery mode, so i tried flashing the siyah kernel that was still on there. This didn't help. I have been searching in the FAQ but i seem to be the only one with this problem?
Does somebody have a solution?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply but that thread is not applicable to my situation.
I am having trouble accessing the internal memory of my s2, NOT the external SD (which I don't have). This total of 16 GB is divided in a partition for the operating system and apps on one side, and a partition for data (around 11 GB) on the other side. I can't access this last partition for some kind of reason..
I tried flashing other kernel and flashing the whole ROM again (with al wipes en factory reset)
Any suggestions?

If u go to Mnt/sdcard what do u see?
Using XDA Premium over Resurrection Remix ICS, the Best Rom ever made
just change the connection mode.
Settings - Storage Size - Clic on Menu Button - PC Connection - And select the one that you want
Thank you for your responses.
If i go to Mnt/sdcard it says "this folder is empty"
My internal SD can't be empty cause I just flashed the Ressurection ROM from it.
Changing the settings doesn't solve anything.

[Q] Low internal memory

Hello guyz,
I have a "rooted" micromax A44, an mtk based phone loaded with gb. Yes, It hs very low internal memory (a mere 170mb dedicated for user apps nd its data). There are no roms nor a recovery available. So im at my wits end. I tried these to overcome the problem.
1. changed internal apps (system) into user ones using Titanium Backup and moved them to sd card. still the app's data remained internal, low memory.
2. Tried link2sd to link apk's, lib files nd dalvik cache, still data stayed on internal memory.
3. Same results with apps2sd.
But, I still could have made it possible with data2sd, mounts2sd, etc. I couldn't. This is where the real problem is. Mine is a "stock" gb with root access. So maybe its the reason unable to recognize ext2,3,4 partitions on my sd card(8gb). therefore, none of those scripts worked.
link2sd worked as fat32 was supported by the kernel.
So this is my question. is ther any way I can reduce burden on the internal memory?? No matter how carefull I am, the /data partition gets hogged with files even after I removed all "my" apps leaving system apps alone.
Used all kind of cleaners possible (sd maid, clean master, memory booster, etc..) but no effect.
P.S. I even supercharged my phone as its the only script which I need not flash. adenaline, tweakz etc needs to be flashed, which in my case, never gonna happen.(no custom recovery, roms).
U people are my last hope.
Thanks
Pls tell me how you root your Micromax a44 ..

Android 4.3 storage issue

I installed various Android 4.3 ROMs (Carbon, SliemBean, PA, CM), and in all of them the internal and external storage did not work, but I saw that other people it does not happen anymore.
Is there a solution for this?
Is this a common problem for the 4.3 ROMs? Common among xt910 and xt912? Affecting both internal and external storage? Always? At random? Or any rhyme or reason?

I am also having issues with when I mount my phone as a USB storage device on my PC. The phone abruptly unmounts whenever I start file transfer. I am using PA 3.99 JB 4.3 rom. I will appreciate any help.
I also need help on this thread. Thank you all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45217945#post45217945
"insufficient storage" after ROM flash
I just flashed android 4.3 ROM on my phone (phone is Infuse 4g, ROM is CM10.2 - 8/30/2013 - Butter)
after I have restored most of my apps w/ data using Titanium Backup, I don't have any storage left (according to notifications and phone storage information - couldn't update apps, and several apps couldn't be restored (restore process stopped at 94%)
when I go to settings > storage, there's message "Storage space is running out", Total space shown for internal storage is 1.28GB, Available is 9.44MB,
however, when I connect to computer it shows that I still have more then 9GB available on the internal storage.
when I was flashing ROM, I had to go back to ICS ROM, (I've lost root access ), then 4.2 Rom, then 4.3. it warned me that it will re-partition my storage, and I may lose any data - I agreed, as I had everything backed up. now I don't really have a storage
I assume it has something to do with partitioning, but I have no Idea how to fix it, or what is the best way go around it. please help.

I have a xt910 umts_spyder, internal sd card works on first boot
after the second boot the internal sd card stops working, external sd is working normal
happens with every 4.3 ROM, I already tried to reformat the internal Storage using a 4.3 ROM
Also note that they don't mount in /mnt anymore but in /storage as sdcard0 and sdcard1.

thanks. I didn't see that same problem was listed already. will try to wipe cache/dalvic cache as it is suggested there. will report results later
it's really weird that nobody mentioned this problem on the developer's forum.

I've been using PACman V06 for a week or so now, no problems whatsoever. ext SD and USB mounting have been flawless.
As for the internal storage issue, when using Stock rom slot, or using a completely unaltered phone, the stock rom recognizes the entire internal storage, as the only partitioning are the internal storage, and the stock system partition. When you create a new slot, that rom only recognizes the partition it was created on as valid storage. This is to prevent changes to other rom slots inadvertently, I believe.
I have this issue only with some apps, titanium backup, root explorer are able to identify my intetnal. Last night I connect my phone to pc and the pc sometimes see my internal and sometimes the pc doesnt recognizes my internal...I use Slimbean for a week now. Its been doing great exept this internal thing. External storage is well recognized

I have wiped cache/dalvic cache as it was suggested before... twice... didn't help at all
also, in the CWM Recovery I saw that sdcard0, sdcard1, datadata, system and data are "unmounted"... I have mounted them all, but it didn't make any difference either (I'm not sure if it would even make any difference, or these mount/unmount setting is only for CWM Recovery, because on the next boot into CWM everything but cache is unmounted again
any other idea on what can be done to fix it?
here's another update.
I've flashed different 4.3 ROM ([ROM][JellyBean][4.3][Official]BeanStalk Build 4.3.1015 - Updated 10/27/2013 - 4.3) - same issue. next day I went back to stock, and formatted everything I could (all but "android secure") - it didn't help either. Now I have Ginger Bread, with same partitioning problem - about 1.2 GB for system and apps, and about 13 GB for everything else (I removed microSD card for now.)
I used to have all apps in one spot, and they would take a lot more space then 1.2 GB... now I cannot restore all of them from backup (Titanium Backup Pro), as there is not enough space.
I don't remember having such partitioning before I flashed it with 4.3 ROM
any suggestion? have I missed anything?

here's good reply on this problem from another forum:
The Jack of Clubs said:
the infuse is older than the galaxy nexus so theres no datamedia or mtp. the 16gb storage is typically called the internal sdcard (nonremovable) because it acts more like an sdcard and doesnt share partition and storage with the data partition. the data partition is called internal storage, which on the infuse is about 2gb, though a little less on cm10.2 because the system partition was made bigger for newer versions of android. if your having low storage issues on the data partition, youre going to probably have to move some of your apps to the internal 16gb sdcard by going into settings > apps > on sd card and moving some of them over. i would not recommend moving over apps that sync or run in the background, but if you have a lot of games, those typically move fine. i would do that until you have atleast 400mb of the internal storage free. ive talked to araemo in irc how hard it would be to setup datamedia on the infuse to combine the internal sdcard and data partition. long story short, rather difficult and it would be too big a hit on performance.

to support this, here's my story: I have already went back to Froyo, and saw that internal storage is 1.8 GB, now I'm back to 4.3 ROM, and it's 1.26 again
looks like I always had it all partitioned, but I haven't noticed it until system partition got changed and internal storage became smaller.
it might not be true for all other phones, as they can be partitioned differently, but it's true for samsung infuse, and probably for a number of other samsung phones.
I have tried CM10.2 , PA RC-2 , slimbean , and even carbon 4.3 but none of these roms detect my internal storage

the problem also appears on CM11 (Android 4.4)
i need to wipe the /cache partition bevore every boot
then it mounts the storages, but if i don't wipe it it won't mount the internal storage
so the problem has to be on the /cache partition?
Hi,
I though this issue was happening only with the 4.3 based ROMs but that still happens even with CM 10.2 ROM.
That failure is not happening all the time, sometimes you just need to wait after the boot and there is the ext-sd again.
yes i think it happens very sporadically
I've got the sdcard unmounted issue with all android4.3 roms that i've tried. Device is XT910 and recovery was BMM 0.3.4. I will use the phone with safestrap 3.65 for a while to check if it's a rom or recovery thing.

[Q] Insufficient storage available

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 5830i and today I bought a new SD card because the old one was crap. I had this problem before, I have it now. When I try to download an application from the Android Market, there is always this error ''There is unsufficient storage available''. I checked and I had 23 free MB of Device memory and 1.8 GB free on my SD card. I read a lot of articles about this problem and tried many ''solutions'' and nothing fixed it. I will be really, really thankful if anyone can help me fix this. Cheers :good:

You can always use scripts to increase the memory like CronMod Unofficial. But the problem with scripts is that it lags after you install some apps. This is because your ext partition is mounted as the /data mount point and SD Card read /write operations are slower than internal memory read/ write operations. So I suggest you use Link2SD Extreme which lags less compared to other scripts. Link2SD places the app link locations in the internal memory and corresponding data in the ext partition. Since the links are in the internal memory, it will be much faster. All you need is a rooted phone, rom with init.d support (all custom roms have one) and ext partition on SD Card (Go to CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (1GB)> Swap(0MB) wait for "Partitioning Done!" message). Make sure to do the setup right. If you created the ext partition using CWM, choose ext3 as the partition type from Link2SD pop-up. Only if that doesn't work go with ext2 or then ext4. Here is the link,
Link2SD Extreme
Try to implement this is a newly flashed rom with newly created ext partition. Hope I Helped
