Why did jellybam removed for GT-I9300? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So why jellybam rom has been removed?
I tried to find reason but didn't find anything.. and has it been removed from whole xda?

It's developer got banned and therefore all his work is banned as well.

Yes.. but didnt he ask permission to use PA's, aokp's and other teams work or did he broke rules by telling that he has made all of those, did he had some malicious code on rom or what? (I know it's not the last reason but you get the point)

Actually... He is still hard at work and been pushing out updates of his amazing rom like crazy even though he's not on Xda anymore, if you did not know that

Not just kanging. He also refused to post kernel sources, and THAT is a direct violation to the GPL.

I think he gets that. It seems to me he is asking what he is to make sure his device can not be back door if he is running his rom.
I don't understand why people act the way they do over simple questions. There is no reason for all the attitude. Isn't this site for helping people further understand the way something works or just helping other out?

I think you miss the point.
Firstly, this site is a place to share and learn dev skills.
Secondly, because of the rules and the nature of the violation (GPL breach) you will find that the "....gone and never to be mentioned again" attitude is almost universally prevalent amongst senior members and up. It's just the nature of the beast.
The OP question has been answered so best to quietly forget and let the matter fade into history...........spot the subtle hint

Security has nothing to do with ban.. Every os has its potential security breaches. See Windows, java, flash, Mac os, even Linux have their security holes.
So xda is only focusing on gpl rules. Every work must come with sources. If not you're not admitted to go on here. That's all.
You know where to find the firmware, the place seems to have a forum, ask directly there.

Isn't this site for helping people further understand the way something works or just helping other out?[/QUOTE]
If they bother to read and follow the rules .
Simple answer would be to PM a mod in the development section and ask the question why has this rom been blocked .

However, I want to try a different ROM now and no matter how many times I try wiping all the caches and data, when I flash a new ROM, its always jellybam that boots up??

Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (if you want format cache, data, system, preload and even sd if you want. I format all of those.) then flash new rom your internal or from external card depends did you format sd. Then flash gapps and your ready to go.

1st question. why wouldnt you follow the rules and make a nandroid backup? because if you did, you wouldnt be having this issue.
2nd question. why wouldnt you give the necessary information as to what you flashed and from where?

This is what happens when you put the cart before the horse.

No, that won't work.
The rules of XDA are clear - Search before posting, never post before reading the FAQ.
Not flashing anything until you have done research is just plain common sense.
How to flash I9100 firmwares, and WHICH ones can be flashed, is covered in the FAQ topic. The original poster CLEARLY did not read the FAQ.
Assuming that you're still on the ICS ROM......it depends on what exactly you flashed but this could be the solution. Flash the correct modified kernel based on what base ICS ROM you flashed(if you don't know then look at settings->about phone). You will then need to flash a correct i777 modem as well(depends if it is Samsung or AOSP based). Without knowing more about what you flashed I can't really help you further.

Dont know what you're talking about, I cant ban people. If a person gets enough infractions then the higher ups ban people because they cant follow the rules. All infractions are looked at then double looked at, so if your friend got banned, then he deserved it.

I think you have the wrong attitude here. Yes, it's good to help people that KNOW how to help themselves. But when they blatantly ignore all the help already available they become more of a nuisance than any real development of this forum. I'm sorry If that seems a bit harsh. But this place was not started to spoon feed people that don't know what they are doing. It's been stated time and time again. This is NOT a help desk forum. Not to sound mean... But if you are asking about basic stuff, you might want to:
- Read some threads before you start flashing
- use the search function
- follow the thread instructions following the above two suggestions.
Try to troubleshoot yourself first... All your issues are solvable by searching.

I agree with this POV.
If someone is having trouble simply installing/updating CWM, they absolutely need to do more reading, or chances are they will badly mess up their phone.
Using ODIN and installing CWM are rooting 101, and I would advise any SGS3 user to make sure they know these 2 bits of software inside and out, before jumping into CM9/CM10, as both are not fully stable, and will require additional knowledge to get them working correctly, if it is yet possible given the current build states of each.
If CWM installs, or ODIN flashes are not pieces of cake for you, you should probably pick a different ROM until they are.
Yes we all started somewhere, but a big tip from experienced users to noobs, is to learn how to swim, before jumping in the deep end. And CM9/CM10 is definitely the "deep end" of the Android pool, at least until the builds reach RC status, if not at least beta, as things wont work, or are yet to come upstream.
It takes as much time to flame as it does to post helpful advice. How do you want to be remembered?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Telling some one that cant swim, how to jump into the deep end, is not my idea of "helpful" advice.
Sometimes the "helpful" advice is.. "you are not ready yet"
It may not be what the person wanting to jump into the deep end wants to hear, but it may save their phone, until they know what they need to, to get where they want to be.

I know the sense of panic you have when you trash your phone, here's hoping some users understand that by searching first, almost 98% of the answers are out there.
That being said, I am willing to help out, given what I know, but I am willing to bet there are posts already done that lay it out there, step by step, on how to recover from this...???
Again, to anyone seeing this, not trying to be a **** here, but the search function really has tremendous value when looking, don't just try one term, use several variants of terms when searching. I bet you'll find something, heck..you may find out something off your first search topic that'll get you there better or quicker.

I take it you have the SGS3 for AT&T, correct?
What exactly do you need a guide for, upgrading CWM?
I take you are rooted, what version of CWM do you have, and what version are you trying to upgrade to?
What version & build of CM are you trying to install, the file name should give the specifics?
Does the ODIN count matter to you?
okay download CWM for your phone from :http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Rename it to recovery.img , and copy the file to your phone's internal /sdcard
Grab android terminal emulator from the play store and run the same commands starting with su in the box below.
just type: su
then
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

WTF is so sacred about the Android OS?

I am an apple convert, go ahead fanboys, flame me all you want. I am a tech geek and I try everything out. I want to learn and I want to play around with the toys that I buy.
I have fiddled with the SDK and the SDE. The company I work for built an Android device for military use, so I know a little about the processes used in hacking and development.
The thing I want to know is WHY is it in just about every thread I read, there is an assumption that everyone automatically KNOWS how to install a rom or kernel or anything else of that nature.
Go to the Aroma installer thread for example. There is a comment from the developer that states "Do not ask how to install Aroma. If you have to ask then you don't know what it's for". Well, bull****. I want to install a custom rom on my phone that utilizes the Aroma installer, but i cannot find any instructions or documentation on how to install Aroma. I can find all sorts of examples on how to use it, but not how to install it.
Now I created a theme way back when for the G1, I previously owned the Thunderbolt and have installed roms on it. But each device is different. Why is it so hard to make a post to help out the new guy?
I am sorry for the rant, and if the devs want to delete this post, then please do so. But I am frustrated to hell with the android community spouting how much better they are than anybody else. It;'s like some damn good ole boys club from redneck USA. Why not help spur on the community and share the knowledge?
because dear sir there are a lot of android forums out there, but this is a mobile phone and tablet development forum,, with rules that you need to read, and a journey of learning you need to take,, this involves reading and searching and accumulating knowledge, a far cry from having Apple sauce wiped from your chin
And yes,the journey is mentioned in the forum rules. Welcome to the world of free people

First u don't install aroma its a installer. U flash a aroma Rom the same as any other. It just guides you thru the install. Depending on the dev it has options to pick thru durning install. Like auto removing built in apps or installing a theme. It's just a installer.

I am trying to install the Dragon ICS rom, but it uses Aroma which I have no experience with.
I guess trial and error is not the best way to go with these things. I finally figured out how to get Aroma installed via the Clockwork recovery, and then went on to install Dragon ICS, the kernel failed, not the device will not turn on.... oh well...
Back to the drawing board I guess, Thanks anyway...
To me what matters is people who are smart enough to understand a phone OS usually pick Android, I mean just because Westlife outsell the Beatles does that really make them better? No it just means they more popular because of the image in the same way reality show acts are guaranteed a number 1.

This threads trolling! Pointless, as mentioned a couple of posts up, probably too lazy to search for the 1000000000000 threads that have already been created on the same subject

He's asking for documentation on how to make an Aroma installation not how to use it when installing something you idiots. Half of the replies here didn't even bother to properly read before they replied...
And as far a that's concerned it's a issue of the contributors.

The last time I checked, XDA was a DEVELOPMENT forum; not an Android forum. There are plenty of iOS dev threads on XDA. Go troll somewhere else!
As for the OP, AROMA should do all the work for you. Just flash the ROM that uses it, and follow the setup.

Do you have the time or patience to search through "1000000000000" threads?...
On a serious note, I'm beginning to understand the OP rant on this topic..
He has asked for assistance.. you can either contribute to making another well-rounded Android user or just ignore it all together. Chiming in with useless insults is what has now made yet another thread pointless and has now made 1000000000001 threads on this topic that still offer little to no clear assistance.
So again, I will ask, please go troll elsewhere.

You don't have to do anything except flashing the Rom like usual.
The installer is shipped within the rom.zip.
The only difference is that you get an interface after you accepted to flash the rom, which let's you choose which parts/mods you want to apply.
I guess you modified the rom.zip, because you told "you got it installed", reflash the unmodified Rom and just follow the on screen instructions.

General discussion and RANT thread

Ok guys I am starting this thread due to being told in other threads that I'm not permitted to have opinions and having them removed , or having good questions that are taken as flaming , but don't seem to get answered .
All that I ask is please if you do rant don't name anyone in particular , do not name teams . We do not need mods swooping in and deleting anyone's issues . Thank you .

I presonally dont think the One XxX rom needed to be locked down.
I totally agree , but there is a thread in developement section that has had tons of talk , but has had NO DEVELOPEMENT in over 4 months which should have been closed until developement continues . But hasn't , but if anyone brings it up their post is deleted and mods threaten them . Just close the dead thread until developement is made . And once again this is just my opinion .

Everyone is entitled to there opinions, but yea i just personally think that if that thread isnt updated, why ruin the fun for the other roms? While i understand that the developer for it is currently busy and cant update it, why put down the other roms that are still being developed?

One XXX was locked down because of CoreDroid tweaks, there is a rom that hasnt been updated in 4 months that has about the same thing, a team has decided that One XXX has to be locked because it contains CoreDroid tweaks, the rom that hasnt been updated for 4 months is supported by the same team.

Because they were using stolen code, whether they knew it or not. If they want those threads reopened, I'm sure they could remove the stolen code and put it back out again. If you buy a stolen stereo and it gets found out, whether you know it or not, the stereo gets taken. Ignorance != innocence
Sometimes you have to be smarter than your smartphone.

So , all other roms have stolen code ?
Ok if that logic is correct , it was *****root who ported and fixed code so sense 4 could work on the Rezzy , and he clearly stated to not use his work in his thread , and yet every other sense 4 Rom used it , would that not also be stolen work and now be taken away ????? Hmmmm or does that not apply to anyone outside of team ****m ????

I think it would just be good if all devs would get along and not bicker over if some code got taken, now when i say this i dont mean its alright to take all the aspects of a rom and make basically the same exact thing, but if its a few bits of code that are the same or similar why take the whole thing down? If all devs were like that we would have quite a few problems, and nothing would be done. I also understand that giving credits would be nice too if any code was taken or used in a rom. Also if they want some code taken out why not PM the dev and ask for it to be taken out instead of having the whole thing locked down? This is just my opinion as well, so if you dont agree with it, I dont care.

This is a general discussion and RANT thread , everyone here is entitled to their own opinions here , we will not flame here , but yes I believe this thread was needed . As I posted in the op I'm tired of seeing my questions and my posts being deleted due to my opinion not being like . I have read the xda rules and my posts did not violate the rules but were deleted anyways thus me creating a thread where everyone's opinions could be heard . Thank you .

True, but really all of this should have been kept between the mods and devs. The users whining about it didn't help anything and only worsens the situation. Like we all don't know who you are talking about.
That had been the biggest problem with the rezound, devs doing their fighting and whatnot publicly. Devs like Chad and nils don't do that and if you look in their thread there isn't any of this garbage. They do their work and release it as they see fit, when they see fit.

*****root didn't fix any real code. He copied and pasted it from a leaked RUU for the Dinc LTE. He said that for the first month, no one could use his work, but after that he let other devs use it as a base.
Yes , but also realize that everyone can come to this thread and discuss or rant about anything from roms to that cop that wrote you a ticket , it doesn't matter that's why its in general discussion . I want a thread where all opinions are equal and someone should not be affraid of the mods coming down on them for their opinions .

Well his thread still states not to use it so if his printed words aren't enough then by all means use it , and it don't matter if he cut and pasted anything it was his and he said not to use it , and that is exactly what ****io did and its called a kang , which led to the closing of threads , but the same exact thing is done by others and its ok. That's a double standard .

That's because he took it, repackaged it, redistributed it, and sold it, and claimed it as his own. I don't have anything against either of the devs who had their threads closed, AFAIK, nobody's even said they did anything malicious, they may have just gotten caught in the cross fire, but that doesn't mean they get to keep breaking the rules.
Though I can see how you can be ok with people breaking the rules, seeing how you don't even follow your own. A few stars doesn't disguise the fact that you are still using names.

Actually I let the common adult figure out who I'm talking about , I'm not naming anyone it is you using common sense to see it . And once again one dev says not to use his stuff and it gets used - nothing happens , that same dev who broke the rule gets his stuff used and all hell breaks loose ,,,, why the double standard ? The rules go both ways . Does it not ?

Thread Is closed as offtopic as it has nothing to do with the device itself.
Rather you are discussing moderating decisions and actions without knowing the background.
Leave this between devs and mods, its not your job to judge.
Consider this a warning and don't start another rant thread or create any more issues.
Thank you

[Q] Did I soft brick my AT&T Galaxy S2?

Last weekend I installed the JellyBAM ROM v7.6.2. Today, I decided to try overclocking. Following the galaxys2root guide, I downloaded and flashed the Zedomax OC Kernel using CWM Recovery. It was all going smoothly untill the reboot. It's stuck on the main boot screen with "Samsung Galaxy S-II," but nothing comes after, no matter how long I wait. If anybody has advise for me please tell me. Thanks a lot.
Do make sure yours is i777 and not i9100 first.
I know what version I'm running haha, I'm not that stupid. I fixed it by running cwm recovery and reinstalling the ROM from a folder i made in the external SD. The kernel deleted the original JellyBAM system files... it was a real sticky situation... As you can see in the signature It is fixed... Thanks anyways

Also, I think you get the wrong idea of what Nick has said.
I have to agree with him and I strongly suggest us not to use Zedomax kernel and stay away from galaxys2root.com.

I do know the responsibility in making this account and the rules that follow... galaxys2root didn't have the answer so I was hoping that the people on xda could help. I understand now they are not affiliated now but what I did not know was that JellyBAM wasn't either. I asked a question that solved itself, and I apologise for offending, annoying, and or breaking some rules. I needed help because I thought my phone was ruined, and I normally dont trust other sites.
