[Q]Kernel that Supports BLN - HTC EVO 3D

Been looking all over; maybe I miss-looked. I'm looking for an up-to-date kernel that supports BLN(Blink light Notifications). The latest one I found was from Jan 2012. If there is not one available; what do I need to add so I can compile my own kernel to do this.
Thank you for the help
-SgtPropain

should probably put this in q&a forum. where it'll be seen and addressed. this forums is for development

Isn't that built into cyanogen mod?

I put this here because it looks like I might have to compile my own kernel, which is development if im not mistaken. BLN is built into the kernel kinda like s2w.

When you compile a kernel and share it then you can open a thread in developmental.

Okay sorry about that. Anyways does anyone have any insight on what needs to be done to a kernel to bake in BLN?

No that is for controlling the LED; I'm looking to control the backlight buttons. Think sweep to wake but used for notifications. There is an app specifically made for this but requires a kernel with BLN support.

I'm sorry, but I don't know. I only have a captivate, so that makes testing on other phones and ROMs hard. All I can say is it should work if you currently have BLN, but a first hand report would be appreciated.

As far as I know the only BLN kernel that will work with nero is TWs DoW kernel with BLN support.

Thank you for testing this out and reporting back.
So as to the fading, I spent a lot of time trying to make it work yesterday. The issue is the time required to write to the interface to make the lights turn on/off is so long, that fading can't really be done.

You can check Paolo and franco source code, are fu*** different.
I don't know why zacks doesn't share his source code but this don't mean he has stealing from franco.
In the italian forum he said Rome kernel is based on Paolo kernel, what's the problem for say Venice is based on franco kernel? Because it is not.

Do you want only franco like dev on xda? ok, no problem
Do you want use only his kernel? ok, no problem

The developers of the Italian forum mentioned never showed the camera fix to franciscofranco,a xda user looking until he found the fix for the camera (because the developers that Italian forum never put your sources LOL) That reason he does not have any reason to give credit to them LOL
Maybe you should go to google and research which means GPL. Then you can come here and complain about what users say (which is not no lie)
And no, franciscofranco is not a God, he is an honest developer. That's enough to keep him much respect
As far as I'm concerned, speak no more of something that is quite clear on this forum (You can answer whatever, but get nothing )

Andy, can u post the URL of the manifest of your sources?.. i m learning to develop android and would be helpful if you provide the URL.
Also how much is the size of the repo of urs? I am using virtualbox and want to decide the size of the virtual hd.
The virtual hdd have to be at least 50GB in its size.
I dont have a manifest.xml because i dont have a full repo nor provide
the full android sources but only modified code.
If you want to start with developmen on android, dont download not working
code, dont download the OS sources - it doesnt makes you happy after/when
compiling - better start with pure simple android apps to understand what is
android, how works android and what do i need to modify sources for my ideas.
if you really want to develop on the OS itself, i recommend to use a working tree
like AOSP Gingerbread or CM7 Gingerbread. ICS is still in early alpha, almost nothing
is working... it brings even nothing to write a lot of posts in development forums,
most developers doesnt spend time in answering "noob" questions, so its better
to learn step by step.

It's very good advice, when I knew ICS was about to be released I downloaded all the CM7 sources to be ready. I looked at Mik's thunderg sources, compared it to some other phones and just went through all of it to see how it works. I have a small notepad in which I wrote down what each file is for, why some things are changed for our phone and 'remade' CM7 for myself.
It means that when I look at the ICS code I still don't understand everything, but my head doesn't immediately explode when trying to work out why it doesn't work

Not sure if it is because the led is part of camera controlled hardware which is kernel dependant. The torch app is only CM which would lead me to think it's not possible.
Although the range of torch apps in the market say otherwise and I also have no idea what I'm talking about, and so yeah there's my unhelpful answer

Q: why are there faux and faux free versions?
A: i love a lean kernel. with that said if you never plan on messing with gamma, or
purchasing FauxSound control app then i suggest you use the versions that dont have those features.
makes no sense to use a kernel with lots of bells and whistles youll never use.
Q: whats frontswap?
A: Frontswap -- and cleancache -- with a fairly small impact on the kernel,
provides a huge amount of flexibility for more dynamic, flexible RAM
utilization in various system configurations
When a workload starts swapping, performance falls through the floor.
Frontswap significantly increases performance in many such workloads by
providing a clean, dynamic interface to read and write swap pages to
"transcendent memory" that is otherwise not directly addressable to the kernel.
This interface is ideal when data is transformed to a different form
and size (such as with compression) or secretly moved (as might be
useful for write-balancing for some RAM-like devices). Swap pages (and
evicted page-cache pages) are a great use for this kind of slower-than-RAM-
but-much-faster-than-disk "pseudo-RAM device" and the frontswap (and
cleancache) interface to transcendent memory provides a nice way to read
and write -- and indirectly "name" -- the pages.
Q: I heard if you disable swap, then performance increases.
A: Bottom line is that, without swap:
1. Your system will be less stable.
2. Your system will not be able to hibernate as well.
3. Disk access speed in your system will be slower compared to a system that has swap partition.
Moreover, disk access speed will drop in the course of time.
Q: ive been messing with my frequency settings, and they wont stick. what gives?
A: the installer hardcodes min/max frequencies. if youd like to try something different
run the installer again, and pick new min/max frequencies there.
Q: I'm trying to use gamma control, but the settings dont seem to stick once my screen shuts on/off.
A: im aware of this. if you use the FauxControl app from the playstore your setting will stick better
however youll still have to cycle your screen on/off to reapply the values. im looking into this and hopefully
will figure this issue out soon.
Q: DriveDroid?
A: this is an app that allows you to use your phone as a bootdisk for your PC.
Q: My phones really hot, what the heck did you do!?
A: put your phone down. heavy use of your phone will make it hot. no amount of
kernel magic will keep your phone cool while under heavy use.
Q: just to spite you ive been flashing GPE kernels on sense roms, and they WORK!!!!
A: yes they boot, but any issues you have while expiermenting will make it more difficult
to seperate user error from kernel error. please just use GPE for GPE based roms and SENSE for
SENSE based roms.
Q: if i see you on the street, can i shake your hand?
A: NO
Q: can we have more governors?
A: no, kernels dont like redundancy. having four governors based on the on-demand governor just
isnt good practice.
Thanks mate!! Can I use this in Insertcoin?

Kexec-hardboot is kind of pointless right now until I figure out why it won't boot sense as the primary rom, but I believe it's already enabled, it was in .torrented's versions at least. Btw if you think you might have any ideas on how to fix that, help is welcome. Pretty sure it has something to do with how partitions are mounted. If you look through the multirom thread you can see my unsuccessful attempts to fix it.

Interesting, thank you for the response. Just to be clear you are using his build version R4.4 (not the newest that was rebased)? I ended up with a frozen boot then the display split into colored lines before going black. I am well versed in compiling roms but was not sure if base is a factor for kernels.
Thanks

Using 5.2 now but I've been using his sense 6 rom sense release. It's what I've used for everything I've released so far. As long as its sense android version is 4.4.2 you should be good to go

OK must be a bad flash...I will re download and try again. I can't remember ever having a bad download. I was unsure if your newest posts was only designed to work with his current base.
Thanks
Update:
Re downloaded and checked md5...good download same results. Screen gets stuck at boot then multi-color lines before going to a grey blank screen. I have all the latest firmware and radios, not sure why the Faux enabled Sense kernel will not work for me.

@iHateWebOS - is FFC enabled in these builds, like the ones you've given me in the beastmode thread? If I follow this thread and flash updates, is it the same kernel as those builds? Thanks!
They should be fine for Venom 3.5.0 right?
