i installed siyah kernel but i did not get stweaks for some reason. im trying to remove siyah kernel now because im trying to unroot it to get official updates, any ideas?
its on stock rom at the moment
i tried to use triangle away to get to official status but that doesnt work either, it just goes back to unofficial status, i think it doesnt support siyah

You can flash any rom or flash the other kernel(perseus,boeffla,stock etc...)
if you want to go stock and unroot you need to flash stock firmware via pc odin... but if you want just to change kernel... there are a ton of options here in xda...
As to stweaks: You have to install that app from Play store, it is NOT included in the kernel since several versions as described on the Siyah thread.

Hello, have been lurking on this forum for a while but never actually made any posts until now.
Let me start off my saying that I am a beginner when it comes to installing custom ROMs, I have only done it a few times before. I flashed my kernel, installed CWM and a custom ROM. After a while I got tired of the rom and decided to go back to Gingerbread 2.3.5. I hated the yellow triangle that shows up when using a custom kernel, so I went ahead and changed that back to stock as well, and that removed CWM as well.
But I've just discovered a ROM called "Batista70 Foxhound Edition 3.0" (which you can find in the i9100 general android dev section) and I love the look and feel it has, and would like to install it on my phone.
My question is pretty basic and simple:
Can I install this ROM without actually flashing the kernel (to avoid the f*ing annoying yellow triangle)? Or perhaps there is a way of flashing a kernel without getting the triangle? Though I'm not getting my hopes up for that question.
I also have a related question:
Can I install CWM without flashing the kernel?
Anything I forgot to add, let me know.

If you by a jig off eBay for a few bucks all your problems will go away. It gets rid of the triangle and resets the flash counter. Well worth the $3.
CWM is within the kernel so to use it a custom kernel is required. CWM is worth having for backups and simple flashing.
My suggestion. Install one of chainfires cfrooted stock kernels. Use the jig to get rid of triangle. Then backup via CWM incase you want to go back at some stage.
Then flash foxhound.

What you could try is rooting it with zergush exploit. Then download mobile odin from the market, flash cf-root true mobile odin and then you have the recovery needed to flash. And no yellow triangle.
Don't know if it's possible, because I never tried it. But we are on a developers forum after all.
You could of course just flash the CF-root and then remove the yellow triangle with instructions from the CF-root thread. Or buy a jig.
Buy a USB-Jig from Ebay its a good investment and helps you on the triangle.. then download the old Bootloader and save it to your pc and then you are safe
All you need to remove the triangle is a zImage from a secure kernel it's all on the cf thread.

I've been flashing roms a while now but have not encountered this problem. I can only flash roms with odin because i am not rooted, and i cannot root my phone. I am stuck on XWLPD kernel, no matter what kernel i install it never changes, why's that? Whichever ics rom i install the kernel never changes and stays XWLPD. I tried to root that so i could install a custom rom but then i get the yellow triangle and reboot and no superuser, no cmw manager and no root permissions, and kernel remains the same. I cannot downgrade to GB either as it just gets black screen after odin download mode and stays hot. I've searched through these forums for all sorts of solutions but to no avail, thus making this thread. Any help would be appreciated.
Could you state what you exactly did to change the kernel? And also you should have posted on the Q and A section

My bad. I should have. I came off from the Vk rom when everything was fine, and i decided to go back to a non custom rom so i used odin to install one of the released 4.0.3 roms which had the XWLPD kernel. After that, i couldn't root anymore, ater installing the cf root for the respective kernel i see the yellow triangle like all's well but when the phone boots up it isn't rooted. So then i tried installing another official rom XWLPF, installs and works fine, but kernel remains XWLPD, and it's like that for any other rom now. Going back to GB just shows black screen after the samsung sign.
Basically, i just can't install cf root anymore. Or change kernel.
After installing cf-root. Have you tried going to recovery and flash another custom kernel like siyah?

In doubt you could always flash back the recovery image from cyanogenmod wiki, and flash cm7 after. That way you're sure to get a fresh start and everything should work fine after!
It had a problem with my phone and this was the easiest way out.

Thanks guys. I managed to find a work around this rather unusual problem. I installed cmw from external storage, along with root, and changed rom from there. I couldn't change kernel, but atleast i changed roms. So i can live with that. Again, thanks.
Hello.
I've flashed the latest Siyah kernel (4.1.5) on my stock GingerBread 2.3.4, using Mobile Odin, not knowing that this version of the kernel is not compatible with Gingerbread, and ended up bricking my phone.
Now when i turn the phone on, I get the usual "Samsung Galaxy S II - GT-I9100" initial screen, then the eye logo of Siyah kernel, but after that the screen goes black and android does not boot.
I've tried Vol Down + Home + Power button combination a few times, even after removing the battery, but it looks like there's no way to even get into recovery mode, because the screen remains black. :crying:
Will I have to buy another phone, or is there any chance to save it?
Pleeeeease help me, I'm desperate!!
SOLVED
I finally maneged, I don't know how, to get into recovery mode, and I could flash back the stock firmware using Odin. PHEW!!!

What I wanted to do was to install the latest stock ICS and have it rooted without triangle and counter issues, keeping a nandroid backup of my current rooted GB 2.3.4 in case I won't digest the well known ICS appetite for battery. I have rooted my phone using doomlord exploit, therefore currently I have no triangle and my counter is 0. Also, I've read that a full wipe of the phone is highly recommended before upgrading to ICS.
So my plan was:
To make a backup of all the apps, contacts, SMS'es, etc, using a few free apps available on the market, since I've read somewhere that, I don't know why, Titanium Backup can't be used in this case.
To install Siyah kernel in order to get CWM, with which I would have made a nandroid backup of the phone (but here I made the mistake of flashing the wrong kernel version).
To Download latest stock ICS ROM, and flash it using Mobile Odin, which would allow me to make a full wipe and inject the root permissions into ICS without triangle/conter issues.
To reinstall all the apps and reconfigure the phone using the backup made at point 1.
Do you think that the procedure should work, provided that I use Siyah kernel 2.6.14 (which is the latest compatible with GingerBread) at point 2?
Or perhaps it would be better to simply use Odin for PC, root ICS using CF-root, flash back ICS stock kernel (which would remove the triangle but leave the root permissions set), and then use triangle away to reset the counter? Flashing a stock ROM will not cause Yellow Triangle or increase your binary counter.
So you can follow below steps after you get all required backups using apps:
- Flash 4.0.3 stock ROM using PC Odin.
- Root using the method mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 if you are concerned with Yellow Triangle and binary counter.
- Flash latest Siyah. Use Mobile Odin if you are concerned with Yellow Triangle.
- Flash any custom ICS or JB ROM.
Just follow first two points if you only need stock ICS with root. Factory reset is not mandatory but recommended so there are no issues later.

Yep. 4.0.4 and CWM recovery is risky. 4.0.3 should be fine.

If you flash custom kernel after upgrading to ICS 4.0.4, you are 100% safe!
the emmc bug itself is on the stock 4.0.4 kernel not the firmware as a whole

Ok. So the only thing to take care of is not to have both the stock kernel of 4.0.4 and CWM installed at the same time. All the rest is safe. Thank you for having made that clear.

Just got a GSIII today and have been trying some JB ROMS out, but so far I have not been able to get WiFi working at all with any of them.
I have tried Vanilla RootBox, LiquidJB and SuperNexus but whilst I can see my WiFi AP on all of them and can enter my password all I get is the "Connecting..." message for ages before it gives up?
WiFi works fine on the stock ROM, and there are no obvious settings on the WiFi router itself which would be causing this.
Any advice appreciated!

Thanks, I just spotted a couple of threads mentioning this.
Couple of questions, when you say flash back to stock does that mean through CWM Recovery, or some other way? Does it have to be a straight flash to a downloaded stock ROM or am I able to just "restore" the backup I made?

Cool, so I've got Odin (I believe that's what I used to root the phone?) Is there a specific .zip I need to flash back to? Also do I need to boot back in to the stock ROM or just stick JB straight back on again?
Please note, when you have flashed back to ics you need to then set up phone and connect to Wi-Fi once, then proceed to flash jb

But now when I try to reboot in to recovery to re-flash my JB ROM I seem to get a different version of recovery from what I had before and it fails during verification when I try to flash the .zip.
Any advice welcome!
I'm having the same problem here.
BUT, even flasing stock ICS and flasing a custom JB ROM after that does not solve the issue.
Here is what I did in what order. Maybe I'm missing some essential point or whatever:
- full wipe in cwm recovery
- flash stock ICS via Odin (I9300XXBLH3_I9300DBTBLH4_I9300XXLH1_HOME.tar)
- reboot and test WiFi. WiFi works fine! Firmware is 4.0.4
- flash CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 to gain root again
- boot into CWM Recovery, format /preload (to get rid of apps installing themselves on boot)
- another full wipe
- install zip from sdcard (tried AOKP JB build 4 for i9300 and ParanoidAndroid v2.22)
same old ****! WiFi not conecting!
I would apeciatie any help to solve this problem for me. Aparently reverting to stock ICS has solved this for others but I dont get what I'm donig wrong her...

that does not seem right. My phone connects just fine with any ICS based ROM. It even conects with JB ROM Android Revolution HD.

Okay so I Re-rooted with CF-Root through ODIN and have got CWM recover back, but now when I re-flash JB I still get the same problems, try to connect to WiFi and it just sits there saying "Connecting..." and then gives up!
Is there a specific set of steps for doing this? I connected to WiFi whilst back on the Stock ICS ROM (LG8) and that worked fine, I have tried various combinations of wiping/not wiping at each stage in between JB->ICS->JB with no luck. Do I need a particular Stock ROM to go back to, do I have to use a specific version of ODIN/CF-Root/CWM?
Very annoying as everything else about the Jelly Bean ROMS seems perfect!
Has anyone worked out why JB ROMS are doing this?

It seems to work for some people to go back to ICS and then flash JB ROMs, but somehow it does not work for us..
I'm trying an old stock ICS now and the will flash cm10. lets see if that helps
I've downloaded a selection of stock and custom ICS roms to try with the process, hopefully something will do the trick!
Also I don't think changing router settings can have anything to do with this as it works fine for every other device I own, including a different handset running JB. However out of curiosity I spent last night playing with all the settings to see if anything would help. It didn't

I did find a guide, so yes, I have taken time to look. But there is one thing which I'm not sure about.
Currently my phone is Gingerbread 2.3.3 original ROM with CF root with Siyah kernal (CWM Recovery), firmware has never been upgraded. But Samsung warranty told me that my phone has to have the latest firmware (ICS I think) for them to process my warranty, so I have to upgrade the firmware.
Do I need to upgrade to ICS before doing the guide to reset to factory stock? Or reset to factory stock as Gingerbread then update to ICS? I also don't know if as a rooted phone with a different kernel can update itself the "normal" way through the Settings/Software option?

I've had to do this and I returned it to stock by:
Flash stock ics
Root phone and install triangle away app
Run triangle away to remove triangle and reset counter to 0
Re-flash stock ics and factory reset. Done.

Yes when you flash a stock ROM the insecure kernel is replaced with a stock kernel, therefore you lose root access to your phone. All this is done through Odin.
