Completely stock - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I put a custom rom on my s3 and hated it after a week in the mean time my laptop with my back up has died and is inaccessible. Now I have downloaded about 10 stock roms that are apparently for the international s3 and not one of these has worked with keis or let me updated ota also triangle away does not work have done it 3 times and it never resets to 0. What I'm asking is can someone point me to a proper official stock rom. a couple of the ones I have downloaded have also had hidden apks that installed after reboot

Did you root before running triangle away. Just download the latest firmware from sammobile.com
Then, root your phone and run triangle away. Once finished start up in download mode and flash your new firmware with odin.
Wipe everything and the phone should be back to stock.

Try this site www.sammobile.com u will find the official stock rom for ur country. Search in firmware option

I've used Sam mobile non of them firmwares were any good. Yes phone was rooted before I used triangle away. I got my phone from phones 4 u and it was unbranded so it's not any of the firmwares from Sam the current firmware I have is from Sam and when I plug it into Kies it says (kor) now does that mean it's a Korean version

Well its a simple question if it is a I9300 of putting back your original firmware you saved .
Or using the Kies recover to original method>> for that search it may be a recent post this week . Sorry i dont know dont use Kies .
jje

If you are worried about KIES, just use the "UPGRADE/INITIALIZATION EMERGENCY FIRMWARE" under tools section, enter your model, GT-I9300 in this cas, in capitals, and in the next dialog fill in your S/N, again in capitals.
Then KIES will download your carriers firmware and VOILÁ!!!
1 - Fresh new install (and completely stock).
2 - CSC matches with Samsung's stored database of serials.
ADD: I would recommend to do a reset factory settings first, as this method will left it's traces if you do not so.

[Q] Possible to force firmware installation?

I downloaded the new firmware via OTA on my rotted phone, and it didn't install. I re-rooted it with CF-Root 6.3, but now If I check for software update it says "no update available." The build though is still the old I9300XXALE8 instead of ALF6, so I guess it isn't updated.
Is the updated firmware file saved somewhere, and if yes can I install it via CWM?
What else can I do?
Thanks
Jay
umm you could try sammobile or this link to go directly to sgs3 european official roms
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1#regiona
and flash it using odin/mobile odin. Mobile odin would probably be better as you can keep root when u flash it
We have a stock rom post look there first .

I'm assuming that you are refering to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
However, I have similar questions as the original poster.
I have CF-Root rooted stock firmware (Sweden, unbranded) and would like to update to the latest available (OTA failed). I know that I can download from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com, but I have no idea which one to use.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9300&r=1
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300
What has to match? CSC, Country/Carrier? Please enlighten me.
Well I'm new to the galaxy series so I couldn't be 100% sure about what you need to match to be sure you get right one. But I do know if you've used cf root you can still connect to kies, you could connect and either check firmware upgrade version then download that vers from one of the sites or update your phone with kies then type *#1234# in the dialler then using that info download that vers of the firmware to have in the future.
If you do go kies option you'll most likely need to cf root once upgraded and I can't be 100% sure it'll work as I updated my phone with kies before rooting but I know cf root doesn't change anything major so kies should still be able to upgrade.

I'm trying to avoid using Kies. Don't want to install it even. Still "download from one of the sites" is not too assuring. How do I know what sites to trust?
Also, my question was rather does me download have to match entirely or is it enough with the same region?
E.g. one of the links above has the Italian LF6 as latest version. Can I use that?

well i use sammobile as its the one quoted in the cf root post under the uninstall instructions, I didnt know about samsung-updates till today. Well u could just install kies to see what firmware code its showing as the upgrade then uninstall. Im just checking sammobile at mo for ya
edit:- when u type *#1234# into your keypad whats the 3 codes it spits out?
I checked the sites out and it seems only the full roms are available. Actually I'd prefer just to flash the firmware so that I don't loose all my apps and settings. Or is there a way around this? I realise it's a lame question, but I'm new...
Here is the result of *#1234#
AP: I9300XXALE8
CP: I9300DXLE8
CSC: I9300LBALE5
Thanks for the help

Yeah there orig samsung roms(firmwares), trick is to get the one for your country/region
Ok , if your sure the updated firmware should be a ALF6 version theres only 2 on sammobile
1. Germany unbranded
2. Italy
Wheres about are u from?
Have you tried the kies update method i mentioned earlier?
Kies is samsungs official software for managing your samsung android device it can sync contacts, backup data etc etc but also to update official firmware.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
I have it installed but not using it for backups etc just for when firmware updates are available.
Youve used cf root so the kies method should work ok but youll just need to reroot afterwards.
After several attempts, I managed to use Kies... I had to use a different USB port and it worked.
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Sending I9100 back to Samsung. What do I need to do?

Hi everyone.
I need some help with my I9100. I am not receiving any reception on any networks so I have called Samsung and will be sending the phone back for repairs as the phone is still under warranty.
I was using the SuperNexus rom in the android development section. The phone was working brilliantly with this rom and suddenly stopped picking up any network after weeks of using this rom. I hadn't changed the radio in this time either.
I am guessing I will have to unroot the phone and flash original samsung firmware again.
Can somebody point me in the right direction please. I need to know how to unroot my I9100 and need to know which firmware I will need to flash.
Thanks in advance.
Download your stock firmware, and flash using Odin, use Triangle away before flashing

Thanks for your responses
I flashed the stock firmware (I9100XWLPY - H3G UK) and used triangle away to reset the flash counter.
I've re flashed supernexus build 5 after rooting and used getril because the baseband and and ril didn't match according to GetRIL.
my baseband is I9100NELP4 and it recommends me to flash I9100XXLPX; I9100NELP4
now it is matching but it still doesnt pick up any networks. I've tried O2 uk and Three UK. I am on the Three network.
My IMEI *#06# matches the IMEI behind the battery. However the S/N does not match from settings and behind the battery.
Is there anything I can do before I send it back to Samsung for repairs?
Make sure your flash counter is 0 ( check in D/L mode) and have a completely stock unrooted firmware.

Did you install kies on your comp, kies have driver for your s3, i think odin didnt recognize your s3, that's why its failed, try installing kies first then try again

nope: it is recognized by kies (for which the device is up to date in my country). the firmware is ok, I flashed it already on another s3. the message is "cannot open serial port"
EDIT : sorry folks, I just forgot kies running; that's why the serial port was not available for flashing. now everything's fine

[Q] The easiest way to flash stock

Hi all,
I want to be sure here for obvious reasons, i had a rooted s3 with custom rom/firmware, which i then used triangle, went back to stock and unrooted. However the firmware i installed isnt what i wanted, i read that the firmware with xx in it was for uk use but it seems to be primarily for israil as it has jewish as its default language and a jewish calender installed as default. So i have now downloaded which i hope is a tmobile uk firmware 19300xxella_i9300t from sammy. will i need to root again then install this with odin then reset counter then unroot and will this download cover the rom and firmware as im never to sure the firmware (screen entered when holding volume up, power button and middle button is now official stock. but not sure if this will allow me to install the official?
is theis file 19300xxella_i9300t the rom or firmware im now confused
You dont have to root to flash stock rom. You might need to reset your S3 though..

Just download the stock rom that you want (e.g. from sammobile.com) and flash it via Odin. Afterwards do a factory reset and you should be good to go. No root required.

Firmware means the full firmware and operating system and modem.
Rom is just a word used to describe a firmware file .
Stock rom stock firmware the same .

Faqs and guides .
Problem is what >> apps are not working ??
The post from start to finish reads as you have flashed firmware for another model on the phone .Apps have nothing to do with original firmware .
Stock 4.3 ????>>>>> not a Samsung firmware .
bartely use any apps becouse im on a "custom firmaware
>>>>Apps work on custom firmware unless you are trying to run Samsung apps on non Samsung based custom roms .
Start at the beginning what model phone do you have as per the label under the battery .
If I9300 then remove ext sd card and flash a proper Samsung stock rom through Odin . You should then be able to flash Philz recovery .
Boot to recovery mounts and storage format sd card system data cache and preload .
Boot to download mode flash stock rom via Odin see faqs and guides for the return to stock for warranty post

you just need to reset the Rom counter to 0 and make it official
