I've mostly been a user of Sony Ericsson devices. I've had the Arc for a couple of years now, and am very conversant with rooting/flashing/modding etc. for the Arc and other XPERIA devices. I recently bought a new Galaxy S3 and, after a few days of use, am looking to rooting/modding/flashing some custom ROMs. I've gone through the various guides--shouldn't be a bother--but one thing I cannot figure out is what the codes XXEMB5, XXELLC, etc. represent. My device says XXELLC. Does that mean it wouldn't be possible for me to flash a ROM that's denoted as XXEMB5? Would appreciate some clarifications in this regard.
Pretty much everything you need to know can be found here

On the i9300 International it would be the below
XX - UK and parts of Europe, Asia
E - 4.1.2 (D was 4.1.1, A & B were 4.0.4 would guess F will be 4.2.1)
M - 2013
B - Month
5 - Release
So XXELLC would be UK / Europe / Asia / Middle East, 4.1.2, 2012, December,
So XXEMB5 would be UK / Europe / Asia / Middle East, 4.1.2, 2013, February, 5th release
If you want a custom rom then no reason to reflash a stock rom but XXMB5 is UK and parts of Europe it is a generic rom, not actual country or provider specific

Hello, I have an Ace with a custom rom from Movistar (a mobile operator in Spain). I'd like to have the phone without all of those crapware that the operators install in.
What should I have to do to have a clean firmware? Are there stock roms from Samsung or Google but not from mobile operators? When I search for roms I can only see roms from Orange, Movistar, etc.
Or would it be better to install a custom rom like Cyanogen or so?
Here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-S5830&r=1#regiona you can find them. Most of them are garbage-free (I believe that Spain is the only country that does that ). Use the one you like most, there are no big differences.
I really like CM7. But it really battery-hungry.
Yes, I knew the site, I'm registered there, but for 2.3.5 version I can't see a Rom for europe or spain without mobile operator dependencies... or could I install any of them although it said France, Russia or another country?

You dont need to change your firmware just to remove some apps. Why are you trying to catch your nose from round your head while you could easily catch it straight forward (what did i just say )
Root your mobile and then use a file manager that has root access like RootExplorer,Super Manager or File manager.
After you open file manager, you might be in sdcard(depends, its based on the file manger you are using).Go up a level and you will see a folder a called apps, delete whatever you want from there.Be careful though,if you accidentally delete system apps, your phone is...GONE

BTW,theres no problem with downloading another region's firmware. The only difficulty you MIGHT face is,the default lang. aka the lang. you see when you reboot your phone for the first time after flash, might be different

If you like stock firmware I would suggest GingerReal 1.4 or a deodexed/rooted rom from Lovetz' thread. Both in development section.
Sent from a phone with an app.

yes, u should have root access if u want to del or uninstall system apps.
rooting ur phone is a better option than flashing another rom because ur phone may be locked to a perticular carrier.
for ur country rom try samsung firmware site (just Google it)

You have the same version I had when I bought my SGS2 in December via Phones4U on O2. This is not O2 firmware, it is Samsung's firmware. And that is the latest publicly released version. So annoying.....That is why my attention has been driven to XDA The latest stock firmware you can install is XWKL1, however I recommend a custom firmware as stock firmwares are buggy, battery not-friendly, and have tens of useless apps...
stock firmwares are buggy????????
That is nonsense .

Hi,
I'm desperately looking for the stock firmware that came with my phone that I got from Virgin UK back in Novemeber 2011 as I foolishly flashed the Non-UK ICS the other day without making a note of the revision I already had.Kies then didn't recognise my phone. I've installed a CPW (Carphone Warehouse) ROM for now as I know it supports the Virgin network but I know for a fact that wasn't the same one that was originally on the phone. As when it was connected to Kies, I specifically remember there was a lot of X's in the string displayed as well as an XEU at the end (I think). The CPW ROM string doesn't have either. Basically I believe I had some sort of unbranded UK firmware that was also supported by Kies for future downloads but when looking on FUS I can't find anything from the UK except branded fimware and the CPW one.
I've learnt my lesson but would really like my phone back to it's original state before the official UK ICS update becomes available on Monday. So if anybody currently has a unmodified Virgin Mobile from around that time could they please point me in the right direction in terms of the Gingerbread version revision number they currently have?
Thanks in advance guys. I'm new so please have a little patience.
You can use the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google) to determine what firmware came with your phone, then search for same on Samfirmware.com.
Thanks. But as I said, I've already tried searching on FUS. And can't seem to find any of the ones I'm looking for. Also all the Intratech links on the sister thread don't seem to be working anymore. Almost as if the site Multiupload.com has been shut down?
I'm ideally looking for firmwares such as these:
PDA: I9100XWKF3,
PHONE: I9100XXKE7,
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
PDA: I9100XWKI4
PHONE: I9100XXKI1
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Why these? Because I now know these are what come with Virgin UK contracted phones from around the same time. I finally only found this out a few minutes ago via a Virgin Media forum and seeing what people where posting. And if I'm 100% honest, it's the bottom one that's looking the more "familiar" to me before I started messing with my phone.
Again, thatnks for any help offered. Much appreciated.
Re-read the last 7 words of my post Actually, read the whole thing again. Particular emphasis on the last 7 words.
A simple method would be to wait for Virgin to update the firmware and download via Checkfus .
I doubt if the ICS upgrade on Monday will be any roms bar stock .
In which case even with original firmware Kies has no update for you .

This is original virgin mobile information which i saved before messing around with ics roms. My galaxy S2 is only 3 months old from virgin here in he uk!
Hope It Helps!

Thanks MistahBungle. I have and niether of those packages are listed on the site. JJ yeah I've got the same feeling to be honest. It seems to be the generic European firmware that I had the same as Ezy's. I actuallyy think I've installed this a couple of times via FUS and Odin but always seem to get the "your device cannot update from Kies" message though. Strange as I never had it when it was originally installed. Just "this is the latest firmware". Chaotic! lol
Update: It's worked! I installed Ezy's XEU one last time. I forgot to do a cache wipe before and aftewards on previous tries. It's back to it's original state and no upgrade error message in Kies. Thanks again for helping me out guys.
So JJ, come Monday when UK ICS gets released you recommend not downloading it from anywhere and waiting about 6 months for Virgin to get there act together?

Personally i would not bother as long as i had a copy of old Virgin firmware in case of warranty . I would just install a stock UK firmware with CPW CSC if possible once UK ICS is released if i was of a mind to go down the ICS route .

Ok thanks. I'll bare that in mind as I don't intend to go through all of this ever again. :-\

Need Stock ROM forSGS III of Bouygues Telecom France
Few months ago I bought an SGS III GT-i9300 with CSC of CHU running stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM (bouygues telecom). The phone was originally bought in France, and later on when I came back to my home country ie Pakistan, I got it unlocked so it could work on local carriers. The long of the short of the story is, last sunday I decided to update my SGS III to the leaked polish JB ROM I9300XXDLIB_I9300OXFDLI1_I9300XXDLIB_XEO. This resulted in loss of connectivity with my GSM network. Sadly, I made the cardinal mistake of not backing up the original ROM, in case I needed to go back. So now I am kind of stuck with a phone which at best is just like a small tablet ....
Can anyone please help me locate Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM for the above CSC region? As so far I haven't been able to do that despite hours and hours of trying.
Also, can I install Stock ICS ROM for CSC PAK/WDC on it? If so, how can it be unlocked & made to work with it?
I hope that someone can help me in resolving this issue. Thank you.

Thanks alot JJE. Didn't knew about this checkfus tool, but it sure is one very handy util. I will let you know of the progress asap.
Regards.
Okay, I used CheckFus to locate the ROM, downloaded it, wiped/reset S3 before going ahead and installing the ROM. But unfortunately it didn't help. By the way CheckFus in Product Code field says 'Not Active'.
I was wondering whether I should get unlock code, will it help solve the issue?
In continuation of my previous post, here is an image from Galaxy S3 Sim Unlock.

That "Not Active" against the product code is probably the cause. Any help will be hugely appreciated. regards
