Here's a weird problem - Motorola Photon 4G

The roommate's Photon she gave to her son as a gaming device. So of course I put a boatload of games on it for him. He played it steady for almost 2 weeks straight and almost all of his waking hours. One night I put it on the charger. Screen would not light up. Left it on the charger over night, still nothing the screen doesn't light up at all, but the bottom buttons do. Would that mean the screen is burnt out?

Wellp. Just some basic troubleshooting before id go as far as saying the screen is burnt out. Do the buttons provided any vibration feedback? Does the screen? Do you see a green charging light by the earpiece? Have you pulled the battery? Have you tried pulling the battery, plugging it in, and then putting the battery back in so it charges only?

Yeah, have done that with the battery, numerous times and various ways. The lights on the bottom come on, when the power button is pressed but they do not vibrate. Screen doesn't come on. Seen small red light, seen a white light and have only seen a green light for a moment when it's plugged into computer, but not the wall charger. Oddly enough the computer picked it up and opened it's internal folder.

I know he said he dropped it with the kickstand out a couple of times, perhaps some internal damage?

So, lets get this straight really quick.
[√] Your lights work
[√] Your phone is recognized
[ ] You have Feedback on touch
Well, sounds to me(i dont repair phone hardware very often) that the cable inside the phone that connects the screen to the board, could have been severed/pinched or completely disconnected. I would say shake it gently to listen for rattles, but you will hear a few if the photon has some age to it, thats normal.
If you have the tools, and at this point have not much to lose, then your best bet would be to crack open the phone(not literally of course)
Seeing how it sounds to me the phone is free and clear aside from the screen, this could do more harm then good, the cables inside the phone sever very easily.
Id look up on google to see if maybe you are able to find a toolkit for repairing smart phones, and also a schematic of the phone(not likely to find one unless you work in an authorized mobile repairphone center)

Oh one last thing to try before cracking open the phone. When you hit the power button and the lights come on. Try touching your finger along the lower left side of the screen(where the lockscreen slider is) and check for any feedback.

Awesome. Best of luck with the repairs. hopefully all it is is a disconnected cable. Parts aren't to expensive for the Photon, and ebay will be your best friend if you run into anything else. If you need anything else, shoot me a pm or reply here. I tend to roam the forums when im not busy with work, my car, or otherwise.

Got my Prime, but its not perfect

Hello again, I got the Prime today but the screen has a bow at the top in the middle. It is not flush with the rest of the tablet. The other problem is it doesn't seem to be charging so I am a bit confused about that. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
First thought is you should maybe think about swapping it out. It shouldn't bow in the middle at all. Mine is flat as are all the ones I've played with in stores.. Second thought is it should also be charging lol .. what's your plan for when the battery dies???
Sounds like a dud to me. I'd swap it if I were you maybe

Ok, seems to be charging now but the bow seems a worry.
Yeah.. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a bow in the middle

Exchange it where you bought it from.
Its going back tomorrow. There is nothing wrong with the tablet other than GPS. Wi Fi is great. Seems like its just a loose clip or something.
Swap it out. There shouldn't be any bow in it. Tablet should be flat. Don't wait and swap it out immediately.
lol how is this even a question? we all know Asus QC is crap, any imperfections swap it out ASAP!
Hey... mine didn't come with a bow?!?
Wonder if it's too late to exchange it for one with a bow on top.
Got my second one and from what I have seen it has no light bleed and the frame is all good. I haven't really tuned it on I only saw the screen when it was showing me it needed charging.
Well the second one is great,b but with bith of mine I occasionally get a faint clicking noise whenever I hit the back, home or multitasking button and when I pick up an app on the home screens. Anyone else get this?

a faint clicking noise when hitting an onscreen software button? if so, cut off the sound for onscreen touches and such. doesn't really make sense. just sounds like you have it to make sounds when you press something on the screen. this can be cut off in the settings.
Ok, thanks for that. The last thing seems to be the battery. I read the instructions for once and it said to charge it all up. So i charged it till it was green and then powered it up for the first time. So as the instructions say i need to break the battery in. At the moment i am getting about 5-6 hours. The pad is on balanced with auto brightness. Does this seem normal for new battery. I would hope to end up with 9-10 or are my expeditions too high?
I will do a new topic cos its a new question

Cracked unresponsive black screen

I've been studying converting my razr to a razr maxx and had the opportunity to purchase a maxx for a reasonable price with a clean esn.
Here's the catch, it has a cracked unresponsive black screen. It powers up when rebooted, makes the startup sound and vibrates. The screen is deader than dead. No hepatic?? feedback, no lower key lights, etc. Does have the flashing green light upper left.
Instead of waiting for the battery to die is there a way to to it off with the side keys? I'd like to take it apart soon but would rather have it completely turned off before I do that.
Googled this question and searched the forum. I probably do not know what to use as a querry.
Be gentle I'm a noob.

Hi! The right thing to do is to leave it at motorola service center for a fix or replacement. Sorry

Hold volume down + power for few seconds
There's a remote chance the screen still accepts input, but not being able to see what's happening, who knows.... do you have an HDMI cable? Plug it into a TV and see if touch input still works, then shut it down if it does.

Thanks but its too late. My big fingers kept turn both phones on and off while separating the case so it did not matter.
I just finished the conversion. Its a pretty simple procedure. Once I figure out how to take it apart the rest was simple.
I used a hobby heat gun to warm the phone and a guitar pick to separate the case.
I have a few pictures of the maxx apart but I can't post pics yet.

I have the XT912 MAXX with the same blank screen and blinking green LED. Please describe how did you revive your phone?
I don't get this, i know you can exchange parts between XT910 and XT912 but isn't the MAXX a totaly different model?

[Q] dead Amaze?

Not sure if this is the right section, mods feel free to move.
So last week I dropped my amaze, and the screen busted up pretty good. Still worked, I just had to read things between the cracks. Fast forward to today, the digitizer/lcd that I ordered showed up. I made the switch, made sure everything was connected, put it back together, and I got nothing. Won't power on. If I connect to the charger, I get the charging light, but I can't for the life of me make it power on. Any ideas? I've already double checked the cables, and they all look pushed in far enough. Can't find anything else that isn't connected. I'm surprised it will charge without coming on. Maybe the digitizer/screen I bought are duds? Busted up the old ones pretty good taking it apart, so I can't pop the old one back in.
edit: Okay, I got it to boot by plugging it in, and removing/popping the battery back in. Looks like it's just my power button that's toast. How do I fix the power button?
ok, your button may be not on the whole way or something lol... but you can wake the phone with the camera button right?

Kinda? I installed a lock screen app that lets hardware buttons wake up the phone. So using that, yes, the camera button wakes up the phone. I really don't want to pull it apart again, those ribbons are a PIA to get back into place. I've kinda looked around on the net but haven't found any conclusive answers. Meh.

[Solved] I think I killed it

Hey guys. I was using my phone to check email, browse facebook, normal stuff. When all of the sudden it emitted a high-pitch squeal and shut off. That was an hour ago. I've been unable to get it to come back on. If i pull the battery and reinsert, it'll show the Samsung logo before beginning and endless series of vibration pulses. It won't stop unless I pull the battery. I've tried getting into recovery, no luck. I tried putting it into Odin mode, but as soon as the Odin screen loaded, the phone went black and back into the vibration pulsing. I've tried pulling the SIM, memory card, new batteries, anything I can think of. I've got plenty of backups on my SD card, so wiping it isn't an issue if i could just get to a recovery screen.
Any ideas what the hell this is??
Bad battery.
Stuck power button.
Your power button may be stuck. Try flicking it with your finger.
Well, i tried booting it with only the wall power connected, no battery, but nothing. I tried flicking the power button to loosen it, but no joy there either. It feels like the power button is releasing itself like it should, doesn't feel stuck. I could possible spray a tiny bit of switch cleaner in there to loosen things up.
EDIT: What is a stuck power supply supposed to feel like? Mine feels like it's making a full movement. There's a solid click on a full press and a smaller click when releasing it. Feels like it's working. I'm tempted to just crack her open and get a better look. I'm on a replacement Blackberry while my note is down and this dumbphone is KILLING me! Gotta get the note back up and running.
The power button looks like this on the inside.
It's a tiny micro switch. Sometimes the tiny mechanics get stuck on the inside. When it's stuck, it constantly reboots. It's a very common problem and sometimes an easy fix.
Parts of your problem resemble a bad battery like capt mentioned. As well as the stuck power button symptom. You can take the phone apart and try to clean it. It's not hard to do. Spraying in the external button probably won't reach the actual button though. Sorry if our first two ideas aren't fixing your issue. Maybe someone else will come along with another idea.
I'm pretty sure we are correct.
It's the power button mine does that when it sticks high pitched noise then the black screen with vibrations

This is EXACTLY what I experienced, noise and all. Sounds like I need to take my phone apart and examine that switch. Is it as easy as blowing compressed air (PC cleaner type) through it to clear it?
EDIT: Well, I gotta give it to you guys. You were spot on. I took the phone apart and really did nothing more than tap on the switch directly and it booted right up. I hit it with some canned air just to be safe and clean it all out. It's currently charging back up and looking fantastic at this point! Thank you guys so much. You've saved me from having to go any longer with a Blackberry!!
Glad to hear you're up and running again! This pesky power button issue has plagued many.
Please edit the subject line to say [solved] so others searching may be saved.

Thanks!! In the spirit of helping others plagued by this issue, it's interesting to note that my power button always "clicked" like it was making good contact, but never worked. As soon as I cleaned the switch, it started working, the click stayed the same either way. Moral is, even though the power button feels like it's working, CHECK IT!! :highfive:

[Q] LED light never goes off. can i fix it¿

I dropped my phone in the ocean but the flash light was on so I swam down and got it back. I took the battery out and put it in rice but it still wouldn't turn on. So I took it apart and cleaned all the salt out of it and put it back together. Now it works but it still has some issues with the touch screen functioning and for some reason the LED light stays on. Even when the phone is turned off and off the charger and it doesn't change colors for notifications any more. Could I have hooked it back up wrong some how ? Does it matter ie affect anything else/ indicate other problems? Thanks so much for any help you can offer. ?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's because it took a swim in the ocean [emoji16]
I dropped my RAZR into a pool and was never the same again. It worked but just acted.. Well like it got wet. Not sure if anyone will be able to give you definate answers. Could look again at the connections I suppose.
