Quick question
Just got a incredible 4g off ebay but it shows no service
Is it because it has no sim card installed.
I tought it's cdma and it doesn't need sim card to connect to cdma network.
I factory reset it and change to global mode / cdma nothing will make it connect to verizon network.

I've been told that LTE is GSM tech and requires SIM card. HTC is LTE capable device. Can anyone tell me if the Thunderbolt does actually have a SIM slot? or I just have bogus information from people. Thanks.

It sure does.
Can we swap the SIM card between phones without activation? If yes, I will be VZ customer soon.

as long as the other device is an LTE device and is certified to work on the VZW network then yes

Isn't it LTE just for data, what about voice?

What difference does it make, it is not like they charge $35 everytime you activate new device.
My understanding is that LTE is just for data and will be that way for years and for the voice you'll still need to activate the phone (cdma radio).
would swapping the sim work for traveling outside of the country? for use on vacation is why i'm inquiring.
don't think so as it doesn't actually have the GSM radio needed to support it. You can roam in one of the few countries that offer CDMA though.

Nope. I think you are confusing LTE with GSM. My solution for calling the states when abroad is WIFI calling with Google voice and Sipdroid. If you need to use the phone as a GSM you'll need a GSM capable phone. Verizon does have few global/world phones with gsm radios but not very good choices except maybe the coming-soon DINC2 but it wont be 4g I think.

The SIM is only for the LTE radio. It only supports data, not voice. And it only supports the 700 mHz band. As far as I know, the US is the only country using that band. And it's most likely locked to Verizon. So, lots of obstacles to using it overseas.
The sim stores all your information on it...3g 4g 1x..without the sim you can only makr emergency calls. So the sim stored more than just the 4g information for your phone to work.
Yep VZW is using a CSIM application by storing all your CDMA credentials also on the SIM card. Think of GSM but the 1X voice protocol is CDMA.

In other words, probably if you go to a country that has a CDMA network that supports RUIM cards (SIM cards for CDMA), you should be able to pop it in and use it like any GSM customer can with their phones on any GSM network.
As far as I know, only India, Japan, and China have the RUIM support implemented.
When the bionic comes out you can just switch your sim card to it and go.

Oh, too bad. I am a phoneholic and change phone very often (sometimes once a month).
So I have me an Orange- UK sim card coming. My AT&T Galaxy S2 Is unlocked. I was wanting to test this in the states before everything. Its Prepaid but Orange Prepaid WORKS on T-Mobile in the USA. Since Network Selection is locked down Is there anyway to Select T-Mobile? Cause I know network secltion is locked. And yes the Phone is SIM UNLOCKED so I know it will take the sim card. its just will it connect to the T-Mobile Network?
It will work for calls. But Internet will only be edge. 3g and 4g(h+) for tmobile are run on a band this phone doesn't have.

But would my phone be able to get on the T-Mobile network at all since I can't select networks? And also idk about the att version but the T-Mobile galaxy s2 has the ATT 3g bands. But data does not matter. I just needed an UK number here in the states so calls and texts are just fine. But would it easily connect to the T-Mobile network without selecting it? Since it won't let me

Just do a search for tmobile apn's. Putting in the right apn will 'select' your carrier. Calling and internet will work fine. Just limited to edge. Tmobile phones are 100% compatible with at&t networks.

Sense it is similar unlocked it is network unlocked. Once you put your similar in and reboot it will go through the network set up again saying it detected a new similar card. After that it will connect fine. As for the data he is right the ATT version only supports ATT 3G or better bands, but as you said the data doesn't matter. If it doesn't automatically go through you can go into settings and select wireless networks and there is an option to scan for networks. Just select T-Mobile if that is what your carrier will run on. Not sure how it will react sense it will be roaming on that network though
On the att galaxy s2 it won't allow u to do network scan it search unless running miui rom

It would if your sim card prefers T-Mobile network. Although you can't manually select networks, SIM card contains instructions as to which network it prefers to use. There is really no need to manually select networks unless you don't like what the SIM carrier prefers.
Hi everyone, I just unlocked my T-Mo HTC One and not sure whats the problem but my At&t GoPhone sim is just not working (no network no signal) and when there is for a few seconds I see the 2G symbol or G symbol and goes back to X.
I can't say the unlock went wrong because I entered the unlock code and my phone picked up the Att GoPhone APN settings on its own.
My StraightTalk Tmo Sim works on HTC One but At&tGoPhone sim is not really retrieving signal but it detects the GoPhone APN automatically which are correct. ST Tmo sim card & GoPhone sim both work fine on my Unlocked Tmo iPhone5

The same GP APN my friend has on his Unlocked HTC One w/ same GoPhone, so don't think its apn related.
Fixed after my 3rd phone call to GOPhone.
The sim was locked to my first phone and they did sim unlock.
I just bought a used 'GSM Unlocked' Verizon XT912 off eBay.
I have a chatr wireless SIM from Canada. I put it in the phone (while I'm still in the US) and it said SIM was from unknown source and didn't connect to any network.
Will this work when I get back to Canada?
It has Android 4.1.2 on there.

The xt912 will not connect to USA GSM networks.
Should work fine in Canada.
May need to use GSM patch
[PATCH][GUIDE] Patch to fully enable GSM on Verizon CDMA Android phones by Mentor.37
Sent from my XT1028 using Tapatalk
I don't have a custom recovery installed. Can I install the patch using default Android?
Also, this step I can do already:
*#*#4636#*#* -> Phone info -> Set prefered network type -> GSM auto (PRL)

After I did this, it still says Out of service and network disconnected (presumably because I'm still in the US), but it shows my phone number from the SIM in the Status now. Does this mean I don't have to patch it? So when I reach Canada it will start working without a problem over there?
hi folks
i picked up this phone the other day. I have a 4g sim required and verified by network. The handset supports the network bandings available in my country. If i put a sim card into sim slot 1 i get a message saying : "this is not a 4g telecom sim" and sim allows me to enter my sim security pin but nothing else. Sim card works in sim slot 2 but as 2g only. I should be getting 3g/4g and no idea why.... any ideas please?? was wondering if cyanogenmod or an alternative rom would fix this issue? thank you in advance.
Hello,
which sim you are use ? and which rom you currently use ?
Thanks for trying ti help.I'm using Meteor Mobile network 4g sim in Ireland and its stock software android 5.0 model nx512j
Is your device supports LTE. But please verify by network is band of Network is supports your device or not. May be your device is not support 4G LTE band with your sim.
Ye mate. Handset supports 4g and 3g 2100mhz which is compatible in my country and sim card has 4g in another handset I tested.

As per error msg your sim is not 4G try to renew your sim if still YOU get same error then hard reset your cell if still its not works then go for cyanogen mod.
