Hello all,
I was just wondering what your impressions were re, the most stable ROM out now, the one with the least issues. Is there one that seems to be most hassle-free? I'm not nessasarily looking for a lot of bells and whistles...
Thanks!
Used to enjoy Theory's ROMs but felt that every few weeks he'd discontinue a ROM and release a new one. If you want a sense ROM that has a good following, I'm gonna be taking a look at SynergyROM, or if you want a non-sense ROM (AKA AOSP) I'd go CM7 (CynergyMod 7).
I'm aosp fan personally. I've used Cyanogenmod extensively, as well as Omgb. I'm currently running TheROM V4 and it is rock solid stable and very responsive. Not many bells and whistles. Just vanilla gingerbread.
It depends on what you want aosp or sense
For me I'm an aosp girl I'm running cyanogenmod 7 v1.7 loving it and. Ill give the kernel I'm using for battery life
If I don't want aosp anymore I always go to. http://teambamf.net/
I love das bamf! or if not go to http://themikmik.com/forumdisplay.php?1004-HTC-Thunderbolt-Developer-Forum I personal really like chingy's roms
I don't like Droid theory just saying
If you like sense, I really like Chingy's Gingeritis 3D.
Second vote for Gingeritis 3D. Stable and great battery life if you just use better governors.
Definitely the wrong forum, bro.
been rocking cleantheory to shiftsense for the past two weeks. both have been rock solid. DT is stopping development though, so take it for whatever that means. i think at some point all ROMS eventually lose development. hopefully whatever you choose is good enough for your daily driver if you dont like flashing over and over.
ShiftS3ns3 by DroidTho3ry rocks - give it a shot.
I think I'm going to give Gingeritis 3D a try. I'm not a pro at flashing new ROMs... i've only done it once (running BAMF 1.3 now). Is there anything special I should do? Is it just like flashing the BAMF ROM? (can I do it from ROM Manager?)
Thanks!

DT mentioned that he's taking a break, so hopefully he won't be gone too long. His work is better than stock.. HTC ought to hire him and get out of his way.
If you want Sense ROM, can't go wrong with SkyRaider Preview 2 or ShiftS3NS3.
If you want AOSP based ROM, SHIFTAO5P hasn't given me any problems whatsoever.
If you can live without the 3d, skyraider preview 2 is rock solid.

FWIW, I have been pretty pleased with the Synergy ROMs and I'd be running one now but...... I was one who fell victim to either the ROM Manager update or the CWM update and now cannot restore any of my backups. I tried various earlier CWMs w/o success and finally un-rooted, installed stock, did the OTA update and I'm back 100% stock.
I mention this because it's relevent to the question..... Battery life is good, the stability is excellent and, once customized to my liking, I really can't see much difference other than the "billions and billions" of crap apps VZW and HTC have added to the phone. If I could get rid of them I'd be just fine with the stock ROM believe it or not!
I'll probably re-root at some point and it's VERY likely I'll go back to the Synergy ROM because it works. I've had rebooting problems with other ROMs I've tried and I'm no longer in a mood to experiment, maybe later?
OK, it's later. I rooted, using Revolutionary, used Titanium backup to remove VZWs crapware and then figured why not? and installed the latest Synergy ROM.
I guess I just can't live with a non-rooted phone for 24 hours..... <sigh>
i keep trying out different roms all the time(sense & aosp based) and find that i'll keep going back to Synergy. it seems the most stable just i having issues with settling with just one rom.
Everyone has a different opinion on what stable is. I think CM7 is plenty stable, but there are those that disagree for whatever logical/illogical reason. Mainly, if you aren't prepared to encounter issues either brought up by your own experimenting or those of the ROM developer, I would stay with what the phone came with and be happy you have a phone that (sort of) works
If you are more brave, then read on.
If you read the comments about most ROMs, there is no such thing as a 100% infallible, will never ever let you down, stable ROM. ROMs are generally bleeding edge and users accept the fact they may have bugs in exchange for the phone doing more than what HTC and verizon allowed them to do. However, ignore most comments, because those are generally just people that screwed something up either knowingly or unknowingly. Like people that go the the hospital (for those that have family members that work at one), not everyone is ready to admit they did something stupid and have it on public display

Skyraider with Ziggy's kernel is EXACTLY this. It has average to good battery life though. Everything works, including it being compatible with call recording and incredicontrol (voltage control app). It also has the notification tweaks that no one has quite duplicated and I have grown to love.
I find Synergy to be an excellent rom as well, but the themes available do not suit me at all. It does support everything with good battery life and also adds HTC Hub which is awesome. It also has DConfig, which I just have not gotten a great benefit from but I guess some might.
The theory sense rom was smooth as silk, and seemed to be a happy medium between the first two I posted.
Chingy's rom is VERY slick, but very vanilla. The fact that it is Odexed makes theming harder I think, but for me that means I cannot replace the HTC browser with the AOSP one, and I HATE THE SENSE BROWSER lol.
ALL AOSP roms seem to have squashed most of the crappy battery issues and get great battery life now. This added to a FAR FAR FAR better bluetooth stack for better use with wireless devices like Jawbone, AND compatability with PS3 hardware make them an awesome choice. The ONLY problem is the lack of reliable network location. This means google maps works perfect, but your web browser can and will put you across the world sometimes, as well as weather apps etc. This rules it out for me for now.
Hope that helps
Shifts3ns3 has been the best for me, while I liked synergy, it had more bugs and seemed much slower to me, shift has the useful 3.0 features without the slowdown of a full sense 3.0 rom

I have been running senseless for a while now and it has been my daily driver. I had no problems with it, other than the horrible battery life.. I was running synergy but I uninstalled because of the random reboots I was having. Which ROM/kernel combo is running the best for you? Plus, I'm getting tired of the aosp/sense feel.. I need some excitement like MIUI, but I'm not too sure on how many bugs it has. I've seen that the only bug is 4g? Correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm currently on the stock ROM and seem to great pretty good battery life. I rarely have to charge my phone during the day, but also I'm not a very *heavy* cell phone user.
As far as MIUI and other AOSP based ROMs are concerned, not only will they not support 4G (WiMAX) but they also will not support the full range of 3D features at this point in time.
I've heard some developers are both working on WiMAX and 3D for AOSP but haven't seen too many detailed updates. If you rely on either of these features, AOSP will not work well. But if you can live without these two features, it would definitely be worth the 5-10 minutes to backup and flash the new ROM gaining personal experience.
If you're interested in using another ROM, I'd suggest backing up the current ROM and flashing over to the new ROM. Once you've done this a few times, it becomes very easy and in my opinion, this is best way to evaluate the ROM for yourself! Ultimately, doesn't matter what other people say if you're not happy!
Hope that helps!
Im a noob to this, but I was having some trouble with Smokin1337's Sick Sense vX.1 rom on my EVO 3D. My trouble was the battery was draining 1% a minute (while using the device) and camera stopped working all of the sudden. I click into either camera or camcorder app or use the camera button shortcut and it just gives a blank (black) screen.
Unfortunately as a noob I cannot post in the Sick Sense thread so I have to refer to Q & A for help. Originally the superuser app I had installed, after installing Sick Sense, did not work properly. It kept force closing so I updated it via the market suggested by another user...forgot his name...too lazy to check...but it was my first post. Now my force closes of superuser have stopped but I still have some more problems.
For one, my phone reboots randomly while using this rom. As mentioned above, the camera does not function anymore. It used to work and now all of the sudden it stopped working and just gives me blank screen. Also, the battery drains quickly while in use literally 1% a minute and I'm not even using 4G. I just browse the web, I don't run any crazy programs that tax the battery or processor.
Originally I was just looking for a Sense Rom that is better than the Stock Sprint Rom. I just wanted a faster rom with no bloat and an excellent battery life seeing as on the commute to my university I take the subway and my phone switches between roaming and no signal. Also, the buildings at my university seem to be cell phone signal resistant. Sprint signal is scarce and data is slow and usually I'm roaming. The same happened with T-Mobile except there was no signal at all. Verizon and AT&T seem to be the kings of signal at my university because they work the best. Anyways, before I continue to ramble on is there any other ROM you guys at XDA would know that would best suit my needs. I've restored from my backup and phone is running good on Stock Sprint Rom for now.
Thanks For Your Time!
P.S. I've looked into some ROMS but seeing that I'm a noob I'm skeptical of nightly releases fearing that my phone would constantly restart or I would brick it. I'm somewhat interested in WTSB Hydro v2.4 but I'll take a Fast Sense ROM, but I don't really want to overclock because I'm not a power user. Currently, my Evo 3D has Hboot 1.5 because it was replacement unit from Asurion for a lost phone so its updated to the latest and greatest (lol we all know that sometimes isn't the best thing...)
Sounds like clean rom is for you.
I agree...clean rom is the absolute best sense rom out their. Sick bat life, and fast as heck. I would also say miui if you like aosp...it has better bat life and is faster without sense, unless you like sense lol...but scott is a wonderful coder.
Thanks for suggesting the clean ROMs. Anybody know if I can turn off camera sound in the rom??? Seeing as I'm a noob with less than 10 posts I can't post in the ROM forum so I have to seek out help in Q & A.
Go with one by virus fast and no problems then once you get hooked you can go to nightlys

Trying to figure out how to install a certain ROM. Don't remember the devs name...something along the lines of theAndroidosX anyways its the Olympus Trinity XE ROM with beats for the EVO 3D.
Since I got HBOOT 1.5 it says follow a certain method to root your phone/flash kernel or ROM. I can't do that method seeing as I already have Revolutionary. Seeing as I have revolutionary do I just follow flashing instructions of the ROM or do I have to use an alternative method because of HBOOT 1.5?
Any help would be appreciated!!!
Steel rom is by far the best and most stable sense rom out there.

Thanks for suggestions guys. I went ahead with Olympus though. Seems to be running insanely smooth. I'll try it out and if not I'll try what you guys reccommend...
Ok... so I posted this originally in the wrong section, without thinking, and asked a very stupid question. My defense is that it's early in the morning.
I have experience rooting. I rooted my last phone, the HTC Hero, and put roms on it as well as overclocking it at one point. However, that's all I did. I did nothing else, beside admired how cool the roms looked. The basic reasons why I did that were because my old Hero was slow and looked like crap.
However my Evo 3D still runs relatively fast and looks great. The only problems I have are power issues which will be solved when I set aside enough money to get an extended battery. I am wondering if rooting my Evo 3D would be worth it. Basically, what's the point? My phone is still pretty fast so I wouldn't overclock it while the current launcher I am using looks great. I'm asking what I could do with a root besides the overclocking and custom roms.
Hopefully this is a more well... thought out question.
... stop wasting good stuff at 3:30 in the AM , man;-)
You can actually solve the power issue with a kernel, some people have claimed 2-3 days without charging on some kernels. Plus rooting will allow you to clear out all the bloatware on the stock ROM. Also custom themes are nice. And there's AOSP ROMs like CM and MIUI, and ICS. I rarely overclock my phone, but I'm constantly playing with new ROMs and kernels, it really depends on what you want to do with your phone.
You wanna save battery? New kernel/underclock plus the removal of all sprint bloatware should help. My main reason for rooting...

Android 4.0 should be good to go for rooted users soon, as long as you don't mind losing the 3D part of your Evo 3D. And the battery perks are nice, too. Not to mention the benefits of superuser permissions (Bluetooth controllers, free Wi-Fi hotspot, ads blocked in free apps, etc...)
Hello folks, I am no stranger to HTC land but am currently using an Epic 4g touch. After the terrible amount of lag I experienced on my Evo 3D I swore to never go back to HTC again because of sense. I am an exteme speed demon, lag in the UI and basic phone functions make me go crazy, I just can't take it.
I have played with a few floor models and they seem nice. I must ask, after using the phone for a period of time and using custom roms, what's the verdict on this phone? Should I get this instead of the Galaxy S 3? Please note, lag is my biggest concern.
I think most people agree sense is better than touchwiz. So far this phone is great being stock, but if you flash custom roms the phone is even better and thats the key in any phone so far.. Custom roms fix the issues carriers put in there. I say get the phone, build quality is amazing
Why dont you make up your own mind and stop posting things like this on a device specific forum. Questions like "is device A, better than device B" usually end up in piss matches.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I'm not so much trying to start a pissing match, rather I'm asking you folks if after a month or so of usage if you have noticed lag or slowdowns. As touchwiz is much less RAM consuming than Sense is, I wanted to know as a speed purist if Sense bogs down this phone like it has in my previous HTC experience.

Have you flashed any ICS roms on your 3d? If you have you will quickly notice
how much more efficient sense runs on ICS. Now imagine running sense on a much better chip. Hope that answers your question. Case close.
hes right.. sense runs better on ICS for some reason, get the phone
I don't mean to sound harsh, but normally (because tons of people have been incredibly happy with their phones) I would say yes, get the phone, you won't be sorry. However, reading your OP, I get the feeling that if you do get the phone, a week later we'll all be seeing yet another "OMG, sense sux! HTC broke multitasking!!!! This phone lags soooooo much!!!!1!" thread. So my advice to you would be no. You will not be satisfied with this phone.
Go with the GS3 -it has 2GB of ram you know...
I've had mine now for a little under 24 hours, rooted within 1 hour of owning, and have flashed 3 roms so far. I can say I love it, best phone I ever owned, came from EVO og. My wife has the iPhone4s, and though she says she loves her phone she did say she was now jealous of my EVO LTE. I think you should at least get it, run through the paces in the two weeks you have to decide. Then go from there.
