Motorola Razr V XT885 ICS 4.0.4 Stock Reinstall
Network: Virgin Mobile (Unlocked SIM, LOCKED bootloader)
It took me forever to figure this out and there is not much information on it so I decided to post what worked for me.
WARNING this is a clean install, it WILL wipe your phones internal memory. Your external will be left untouched. It is not needed for this so you can remove now to be safe if you want.
1. Download Motorola device manager and install it. Plug in your phone. Right click on the icon (in the system tray) and click check for updates. Let it do its thing. This will
install the necessary usb drivers for the phone (and maybe an update but mine didn't).
https://d1tsx1og7dz7v4.cloudfront.net/MotorolaDeviceManager_2.3.9.exe
2. Download and install RSD Lite on pc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348587
3. Download the stock firmware for your phone. My phone is Virgin so the Bell Canada one is what I used. I have NOT tested any others.
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_yangtze/list.php
4. Extract the firmware to a folder.
5. Now you need to open the xml file in the folder you just
extracted (open the xml with notepad) and delete two lines of code from it. If you don't do this RSD lite will not flash the firmware (this was my major problem). It will throw an error that says unknown fastboot command oem.
delete these two chunks of text:
"<step operation="oem" var="fb_mode_set"/>"
AND
"<step operation="oem" var="fb_mode_clear"/>"
6. Save the xml file.
7. Open RSD Lite.
8. Browse to the extracted firmware folder and select the xml file.
9. Make sure your phone is off. Now hold the Vol. down button, and hit the power button for one second then release the power button. This should put you in fastboot mode. (white text on black screen).
10. Plug the USB cord into the phone.
11. Once RSD recognizes your phone it will say connected. The Motorola drivers have to be installed for RSD to see it.
12. Hit the start button in RSD and let it flash the firmware. When it is completely done it will say PASS.
BE PATIENT AND LET IT FLASH AND DO ITS REBOOT CYCLE.
13. The phone will reboot a bunch of times just let it go.
14. Now your Razr V XT885 will have a stock install of
kernel: 3.08-g5f63356
android: 4.0.4
system version: 673.135.80.xt885.BellMobility.en.CA
When your done root the phone. If you had root before this it will be gone.
Root using this.

This seems to work for most people. You'll get a soft brick but you'll be able to get out of it and finish the process. Read through the topic until you feel comfortable enough to try it. Also you can run the DOS file before you start the process just to see what each step tells you to do.

this worked perfect for me and it seemed to be the easiest way
In my opinion the soft brick was a headache. The briefmobile method was what ultimately worked for me. I wish I had used it sooner. The DOS method worked well for rooting though.

Were you on 2.3.4?
Ok, finally! I got it done and flashed to CM7. WOW! I love it!
I did notice some differences so I will post my experience here shortly. I will highlight the differences I found that worked for my 2.3.4 Rooted Atrix. Maybe it will help other newbs like me : )
By the way, credit to BriefMobile and the2dcour for the original guide
How To: Unlock the Atrix 4G Bootloader
Prerequisites
Backed up /data partition
You will lose all of your /data during this process!
Unlock SBF file [Mirror]
RSD Lite 5.3.1 or sbf_flash [Download if Atrix is Froyo]
Fastboot package [Mirror]
Also found in the Android SDK tools folder
Instructions
If you’re on Gingerbread, skip to step 13. I had to do all steps to get it to work, but I was also on 2.3.4
Power down your Motorola Atrix
Take out your microSD card and SIM card for the flashing process
While turning the phone on, hold the Volume Up button until it acknowledges RSD
Your device will say “Starting RSD protocol support”
Run “RSD Lite” on your computer
Press the “. . .” button next to the box labeled “Filename”
Load up the SBF file
The SBF file is located inside of the .zip file, you must extract it out before loading it into RSD Lite
Use WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the .zip file on your computer
Plug your device into your computer
Use the USB ports on the back side of your computer for safety
RSD Lite should recognize your device and say “Model: NS Flash Olympus” and “Connected…”
Press the “Start” button
Be patient while the phone reboots. It will take a long time.
Open and extract the Fastboot package from above
Open a command prompt window
On Windows, press Start and type “cmd” then press the enter button
Type the following command. Your directory will be the folder where you extracted the Fastboot package.
(Example: cd C:\Users\Kenneth\Desktop\fastboot-package)
cd your directory here
Power down your Atrix device
Hold the power button and the downward volume button until you see “Fastboot”
Let go of the buttons and press the upward volume button once
You will now see “Starting Fastboot protocol support”
Plug your device into a USB port in the back slot of your computer
Front slots sometimes do not have enough power to stay connected to the device.
Type the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID in place of the ####:
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
Wait for your device to reboot. Congratulations! You now have an unlocked bootloader!

I hope this works for u
like i said im new and this is actually my first post
my atrix is working fine and i also have a custom recovery in it
Well done.
Hopefully you won't start a similar thread for:
- flashing a rom
- Flashing a kernel
- Updating the radio
- something else that is already documented
A link to the existing process is enough. Otherwise it looks like you created it all (which it sort of does in this case) and that is unfair & pi**es people off. Plus its dangerous because people can easily brick their phones and then run back to you for the explanation. Surely you don't want to deal with that..
A well meant advise.
Well Im form Mexico and got a new Atrix, so after reading lots of guides, the fact that this one assured me of working on a 2.2.1 telcel device, helped a little.
thanks a lot!
Dude, you're a lifesaver. While I understand the criticism made by 2ndP, I have to say that your post saved me from spending another 4 hours tweaking unsuccesfully with loads of files to unlock my brazilian Atrix
As question =) i would like to flash my phone back to stock until ics arrive but i dont know how to do it. Can someone give me a full tutorial?
I m using asia gsm razr xt910, thx
Maybe use this file and flash like you would any Rom?
Well if you find out your ROM region, then you can go download the appropriate ROM in the official ROM thread in the development section and use RSD lite to flash it back to factory ROM. That should work and your phone will be good as new.

Ive never done it myself but Im assuming region is the country your living in as some are gsm and some cdma.
On using rsd lite there are several how to with search.
http://www.blogotechblog.com/2011/12/restore-motorola-droid-razr-to-stock-configuration/
Got this from here.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. If you haven't already done so in the past, download and install the motorola usb drivers.
2. Download and install RSD Lite 5.6.
NOTE: In order for RSD Lite to recognize your phone, it has to be in AP Fastboot mode or it can just be booted up like normal. If your phone will not boot up, then power it off and put it into AP Fastboot mode by holding the volume up + down + power. Then select the AP Fastboot option.
3. Connect your phone to the computer with a usb cable and open RSD Lite. Make sure RSD Lite recognizes your phone before proceeding.
WARNING: Be careful not to move your phone around or mess with the usb cable while doing the following steps. You don't want to accidentally disconnect it. That might end up bad.
4. In RSD Lite, select the fastboot zip file you downloaded then press the "Uncompress and Start Flashing" button. RSD Lite will unzip the file and begin flashing.
5. Once the flashing is done and your phone is booted up, perform a factory reset to complete the process

fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
Disconnect phone from PC
6. then turn off the phone by removing the battery..then remove SIM and SD card
turn ON the phone holding VOL up it should say Starting RSD protocols.. run the RSDlite...connect your phone...make sure RSD detects your phone it should Say on model: NS flash olympus and just in the right column it should say connected.. after that... press the "...." button next to the textbox called Filename and select the SBF file you downloaded and extracted.. it should be 1.46 gb both files size are the same..so make sure your selecting the one you need (version you had before installing cyanogenmod)
7. after you select your file...press start it gonna takes around 25 or 30mins.. never disconnect your phone during the process it will reach 100% like 2 or 3 times and reboot phone 2 or 3 times too..... feel free to disconnect ONLY when the RSDlite says PASSED or PASS something like that..in the result column
8. after that you should be back to stock without ROOT without bootloaded unlocked ready for rooting and BL unlocking wich i like more..only to have that on my stock rom..

This is kind of different from random reboots, because no matter what I am doing on the device or if its ideal, it does reboot around every 3 minutes.
Current version is 4.0.4 and the model of the device is Verizon xt912
System version: 6.16.211.xt912.Verizon.en.US
Kernel version: wt-3.0.0
Build no.: 6.7.2-180 ....
Build date: Jun 14, .... 2012
Another thing is, under the settings, the device is showing Baseband and IMEI - Unknown. Don't know what may have caused this. BTW, currently I am out of country (US) and I have no SIM inserted in the slot (for international GSM), I don't suppose inserting no SIM can lead to base band and IMEI = unknown?
I am no idea if this Unknow Baseband and IMEI is causing the reboot or vice-versa or if there's dependence.
What I have tried:
Wiping Cache through recovery
Reset to factory settings
Option 1 of Matt's Razr Utility 1.82
If anyone can tell me how can I make this phone usable, I would be thankful.
Did you try flashing official FXZ using RSD lite ?!

Not really, but would it be any different than restoring to ICS .211 using Matt's Razr Utility?
Can you tell me where I can find the official FXZ for Razr to flash?
It will be different cause stock fxz includes every part of the firmware while matts utility can only install certain parts of it like the system, boot etc.
The RSD simply doesn't detect the device. USB drivers are installed and gets detected fine with Matt's Razr Utility.
Tried different RSD versions. I also tried replacing all the radio, system, boot img and all other files in the Matt's Razr Utility with the FXZ which I was trying to restore back to. It said it did successfully flashed to 211 but the problem is still there.
I think if there's any way to change the base band from Unknown to the original, this problem can be corrected. Any ideas for this?
I cant say why RSD wont detect your device but "Baseband unknown" could be a Bad ESN or a blocked device and a corrupt PDS partition in the worst case..
That said if you do have any of the above your CDMA.XX.XXX baseband is most probably useless what you could try is to get your device to switch to a GSM baseband N.01.XXX and make use of the device with any operational GSM service in your country.
In order to do that root your device install Safestrap and flash any of the GSM roms available.
Try that and tell me the results.

I'll try that and let you know.
While trying to get it to work, I cannot find the EFS folder. I am using Android Commander on PC to browse the files and folders of the device. Its right at the very root, i.e at the location " / " right? Where there are folders like Sys, System, Root, preinstall, preoc etc
You've installed motorola usb drivers,
When the phone is powered off, hold both VOLUME UP + DOWN buttons and press POWER button. You'll get into bootmenu. Release the buttons and navigate with VOLUME DOWN to AP FASTBOOT mode, press VOLUME UP to get into AP FASTBOOT MODE. Connect the phone to pc, launch RSD Lite ( newest version 6.1.4 )
If it detects the phone, flash stock xt912 ics rom.

I don't know why but the RSD lite does not detect the phone. USB drivers are installed and working fine because matt's razr utility detects the phone (before it wasn't).
You may need to run RSD Lite as Administrator for it to work on Win 7/8.
You need to get it to successfully complete flashing the radios in recovery after it finishes the other partitions.
It should reboot into recovery by itself and flash the BP.img and LTE.img and then reboot again normally after it has completed.
That should fix the Baseband unknown and blank IMEI issue.

I am on Win 7 64 bit.
Running as Admin, but still RSD Lite does not show the device. Is there anything else that I can try?
I'll also try running on a different PC.

That is RSD Lite 6.1.4 the latest available version. Try it and see if you have any better results.
Can you use ADB ?!
And Did you try any of the GSM roms ?!

No. I think I'll try that.
I am uploading a zip file that is just the radio_update_211_RAZR.zip in the radio.img from the 211 FXZ.
You will need to put the file on the root of your sdcard. Since the phone isn't booting, the easiest way is to take out the sdcard and put it in a card reader on your PC to transfer the file. Then reinsert the sdcard in your phone and reboot the phone holding Vol up and down + PWR to get to the boot menu and select recovery.
The phone will boot to M logo and then blank screen briefly and then show the stock recovery with Android and red Exclamation !. Press both Vol up and down at the same time to enter recovery and chose Apply Update from External Storage option and browse to the update_radio_211_RAZR.zip and select it.
It should load lte.img and bp.img and then reboot automatically.
This should allow the phone to boot normally and display the baseband and IMEI again if everything works as described.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7632904/update_radio_211_RAZR.zip
This will avoid the need for RSD Lite if it works. If not, then you can try using fastboot to manually flash the images from the FXZ.
press all three bttn,on black and white menu scroll down and select "BP HW Diag & Boot AP" boot will boot up ,see if phone restarts on its on or not and lemme know ...

It says, Finding, Opening, Verifying, Installing update....
assert failed: motorola.motoflash("/tmp/bp.img")

BTW, I tried this when being on 215.
Should I go to 211 and then try again?

In BP HW Diag & Boot AP, it does not reboot on its own.

so both of us are in a same boat my phone acts the same and if i use matts utility i file gets created everytime in my phones internal storage named "update_radio.zip.failure"
If you're using BMM or SAFESTRAP 3.10 with stock ROM flashing enabled I can make you a flashable patch that will allow GSM services to work on the stock ROM itself !?
I'm only trying to help cause I've owned 2 RAZR's previously with the same condition. As I stated earlier if a radio flash or FXZ doesn't fix it then it is a corrupt PDS partition and it cannot be fixed to work on the CDMA baseband.
