[Q] SDE not booting? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've recently tried installing the Special Developers Edition firmware onto my Archos 101 G9 because I wanted to try out [email protected] and more importantly Ubuntu.
Only thing is that once I installed it and pressed the Vol. - button down, it would go to the Recovery Menu. But this time with the SDE menu option on it, but when I select it, it would just go to a black screen.
I know it's installed because the "SDE is now installed. Device will reboot" type screen came up the first time I selected it. Any ideas?
Thanks.
Jamie.

[Q] [HELP] Best way to recover an Archos 101 G9 (then root it)

Hi,
Was trying to root an Archos 101 G9 and followed the instructions here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360840
No problem. Paul's root worked, broke my sound, installed 1 and 2, removed local.prop, all working nicely.
So I rebooted it and tried to get into the recovery console so I could have a play with the SDE menu and now it just comes up with a menu
"Archos A101S Recovery
Would you like to recover your system?
No
Reboot
Update firmware
Repair System
Format System"
Click to collapse
Whatever I do, it just reboots to this screen. Hold vol - or vol + makes no difference, it flashes up the Archos boot screen and then goes white.
As for the menu, I have tried most of them, only "Format" left and I don't know if I can fix it if I do that, so decided to ask here....
So, any clues?
Thanks in advance.
Well, if you don't see the developer menu, it means that the sde kernel didn't flash properly.
When you don't press volume keys, does the device boot properly ?
If it does, re-do the whole procedure and show me what is displayed when you launch the batch file. Launch it in a cmd window, not directly from explorer to be able to copy/paste.
If it doesn't boot normally, make it work again first by re-flashing firmware with "update firmware " in recovery.
Thank you for your reply.

Sadly, that was the problem. Endless loop of boot into white screen.... boot into white screen.... ever since I went anywhere near the SDE console.
Finally got it to re-do the firmware so is now back to stock. Turns out it doesn't like it if you rename the firmware AOS file (ie "firmware_archos_it4.aos") to include a version number (ie "firmware_archos_it4_3_2_56.aos") and just says "Update Failed".
Once that's figured out, it's "Update firmware", copy AOS file across into the RAMFS drive you can see in windows and select OK on the tablet. Rest is automated.
Starting again....
Paul's root, done.....
SDE enabling done.
Remove Paul's root (fixes sound and sleep issues).....
Tablet still works.... now to figure out how to root it.

Ok, good. So now, in recovery you should have the developer menu.
If you do have it, next step is flashing from developer menu a rooted firmware, take a look here.

[Q] Archos 70H - Recovery menu gone ?

Hi there,
Got a small problem (not sure it's so small though).
What i did :
Tried to update my Archos 70H - 250GB to the latest version via recovery menu(2.4.82) (wifi update didn't work - it said that internal storage is not available - i think i'll have to replace the HDD too-got an 160 gb Drive that i'll pop in this weekend to test)
It had Froyo before (i have to aos file for that one too but i can remember the version).
Problems:
-Boot loop at first Archos Logo.
- Can't enter Recovery menu with Power + Volume Down
(I pressed power for 12 seconds to make sure it's off. after that i tried to enter recovery menu)
All i get is a boot loop. If i try to enter the recovery menu i get a black screen after the Archos logo.
-The PC (Win Xp Pro SP3) doesn't see the Archos connected unless i'm in the recovery mode to load the new firmware
Questions :
-Can i try a "blind" flash - going trough the menu options even without seeing them ( if someone around would tell me exactly how many Volume-/Power to press and when)
- IF anyone has any suggestions please let me know as i ran out of ideas.
Thank you.
Solved
This is what worked for me :
1. Opened the tablet.
2. Took it apart.
3. De-soldered the battery wires from board
4. Scanned the original HDD in my PC ( everything working fine)
5. Left it like that while i was at work
6. Re-soldered the battery wires
7. Put it back in 1 piece (including the HDD)
8. Start
Is started straight in the new android.
The hdd is working again (i still don't know what the problem was)
The developer os is working too
Wrote everything here in case anyone needs it.
i have a problem too on my archos 70h if u try to start on i just entering in recovery menu. not from its original os. can you help how to flash this android to restore from its original state.

How to remove urukdroid 1.6?

Hi Guys,
has anyone been able to uninstall urukdroid 1.6 and revert to the original Archos firmware?
I've seen various suggestions from older versions... mainly around wiping file system.
... but no luck so far.
Sure I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas?
Cheers.
You want a way without system wipe? The options are:
1. if you have Stock firmware and Urukdroid - go to recovery menu and select "Developer edition menu" then select "Uninstall Developer Edition". This way you will have only Stock firmware left.
2. If you have only UrukDroid, unstall SDE and select "Update Firmware" upload the Stock firmware from Archos site and you're done.
3. Uninstall SDE (Special Developer Edition) and format the device to make sure its clean. Dont worry, after you format it the device will ask you to connect it to the PC and upload the firmware (you can find it in Archos site). Simply upload it and press the power button nothing can mess up. The installation will end and you will be back to Stock firmware like you wanted.
Thanks Mavasilisk, that's very helpful.
I worked out where I was going wrong. Was booting into urukdroid repair menu... not the Archos recovery menu. Doh!
In case any one else having same problem:
Archos Recovery Menu: Hold Vol + as soon as you reboot and screen goes black.
Urukdroid Repair Menu: Hold Vol + or - as soon as you seen urukdroid splash screen.

Go back to stock rom

Hi Team,
I have Archos 70 IT and I am currently running Urukdroid latest version. Can someone please point me to the guide/thread to go back to stock rom?
Thanks,
When you (re)boot with the volume down button pressed, you should get the Archos boot menu where you can boot the stock Archos ROM.

[Q] rot and detox 4.0.28

Newbie , so please be gentle with me if my question seems daft.
have installed detox 4.0.28 and have a few questions. I have tried replying to the actual thread , but it will not let me as im new.
I installed the unofficial SDE , and installed the detox. I have root , but when i actually look at my version , it just says 4.0.28..will there be anything to actually show i have the detox version?
I followed Surd instructions , but did not have the option of " go to recovery SDE and Remove android kernel if you have already installed any official firmware !"
so i carried on and "go to Flash kernel & Initramfs and copy here zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo from ( Archos_Deodex_4.0.28)
Ok ! ... & wait to boot !"
My other question is about reboot
I hold the power for 10 secs ..see the Archos logo flash very briefy ...if i do not release the power button quick enough ..the screen then goes blank ..and i end up pushing the power button in briefly a few times , and sometime i see the logo screen. Has anyone else experienced this
thanks for any help you can give

Hello again (you already know me as mls over on the archosfans forum LOL).
First off, its "root and deodexed" not "rot and detoxed"...
I assume you mean that you have installed this "deodexed" version 4.0.28. Even though it does have a number of other additional changes, it's still uses the Archos 4.0.28 firmware as a base... and, as such, would show up as 4.0.28 in Settings=>About. Sometimes a ROM developer will change that, or they will change what is listed further down in the Build version section. In all honesty, it is up to YOU to keep track of what you install on YOUR OWN device.
I followed Surd instructions , but did not have the option of " go to recovery SDE and Remove android kernel if you have already installed any official firmware !"

The Remove Android Kernel option will only show up once (or if you later re-install an official Archos firmware .aos again later). If you had already removed the the Android Kernel when you installed some other rooted firmware it would not show up as an option again (until you install official Archos firmware again).

Don't know what you mean because the ONLY time you ever would hold the power button for 10 seconds is if you wanted to force the device to reset and turn off. If the device is up and running, you would only have to hold the power button for about 3 to 5 seconds and an option menu should display giving you a choice to go into deep sleep, reboot, or turn off. Holding the power button for 10 seconds anywhere else could cause any number of other problems because you may be FORCING the system to shut down in the middle of something important that it needs to complete doing.
To get into the Recovery/SDE you have to first make sure the device is totally shut down and turned off. Then keep holding in the + (or -) volume button and just press the power button long enough for it to boot up into the Recovery/SDE menu.
As for the boot logo not showing up... well, unfortunately surdu_petru used an early version of the Archos 4.0.28 firmware for his ROM's (Archos actually released 3 different ones all with the same 4.0.28 version number... see my other posts about that elsewhere). The first release would go into a blank display for a while instead of properly displaying the animated logo.
Hi MLS
A small world (LOL) Thanks again for your reply on here ( and archosfans) LOL .. ) you have been very informative.
Rot and detox ..oops finger trouble there ..and i did not know how to go and amend the title, or the text when i used detox ( perhaps i need to go into detox from beer , to stop my rambling ..then again ....)
Power problem , yes its only when i turn the tablet on ( from off) , i normally hold the power button in , until i see the archos logo..then i let it go. Its no problem , as the screen sometimes goes blank ( making me think ..oh no!! is it broke) , but after about the same time of a normal power on..the archos logo appears , then goes, as the tablet is on, and everything is normal.
But as you have now told me the reason , i will not panic..
Thanks again.
