Hi, long story short... i'm having some funky troubles unlocking my 2 days old Incredible 4g LTE.
Tried using this automatic script but it isn't working, attached below are some screens from my phone, and also one from the script, which gives me an error about "more than one device" connected.
I'm on Win 7 64 bits, latest HTC drivers (only drivers, no other htc software installed) tried on all 8 US ports my computer has, when i connect the phone it gets recognized perfectly so drivers are properly installed, i choose "charge only" mode and run the script but no luck.
Any ideas of what i could be doing wrong?
I'm not a complete noob in regards to rooting and flashing, on my previous Droid 2 Global i installed custom Roms. any help appreciated
EDIT: Forgot to mention that when i try to get the unlock code from HTCDev, it gives me this error: "MID not allowed"

If you google, a bunch of people have had the problem with this emulator device showing up. This guy seems to have solved it:
http://0bar.nl/en/tech/adb-device-emulator-5554-offline
I'm assuming the script would run fine once you removed the emulator device. Hopefully that guys explanation removes it for you. If not, google is your friend
Yep, that helped... that ghost device was Blue Stacks App Player, after i uninstalled it the script worked perfectly and now i'm finally unlocked, just flashed recovery and now i'm deciding which ROM to flash... thanks a lot

NP buddy. CM is the way to go
The sense roms are nice and have some great tweaks, but I seriously cannot fathom why anyone would want a sense based rom over CM. Sorry Viper and Pizzuto!

Hi guys, I've had a fair read through the forum already but can't find a solution to my problem.
I have a HTC Magic which I have rooted and am running cyanogen 6.0 RC.
My problem is with my girlfriend's Tmobile HTC G2 (Hero).
I initially tried running the 2 part update from Tmobile but receive the yellow triangle error so am told to downgrade my rom from the HTC site.
I cannot for the life of me get this to work, HTC sync works fine. I run the uud.exe file update and the phone boots to UUD usb mode,xp informs me of "android 1.0" being connected and the installer gives me error [171] USB connection error.
The program then terminates, the same thing happens following the guide: http :// forum .xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=645253&page=3 (cant add the link)
I'm stuck for ideas. Booting into hboot (power on and vol down) gives me my spl:1.76.007 which know for the magic was the perfect spl. The radio is 6.35.07.08.
Any help would be appreciated, all I want is this retched device to be upgraded from android 1.5!!!
Thanks in advance.
Nath
As noted in my FaQ please follow my guide on Correct drivers and check the bootloader drivers section. This should fix your issue.
Not development related, reported to be moved to Q&A.
buddn, I have the same phone all stats identical and got the same error too. It locked up the phone on the skate-boarding android screen and let a nervous half-hour of searching before pulling the battery and it restarted fine.
If you solve this please post back what I/we are doing wrong.
btdag, can you be any more specific? Do I have to use your drivers? I have used ones from the latest HTC Sync and the latest Android-SDK, I'm running Windows 7.
Currently setting up the XP mode in Win7 as plenty of people seem to recommend flashing from XP instead. But progress is slow as the hours I have to play are limited!
Thanks both,
Craig
What ROM version are you running currently and what are you trying to downgrade to?
I had SPL 1.76.0007 originally, I ended up using the engineering SPL (2007) but that was for other reasons.
But btdag's guides are really well laid out, sometimes you do have to uninstall all your drivers and just follow his steps, I know I have in the past and that normally solves everything! He provides links to ADB and HTC Sync drivers, but personally I use the ones from the ADK and the latest HTC Sync I could find... but then I'm a bleeding edge kind of guy
Can you both try the "GoldCard" Test Procedure for me in my guide here
This has been done today and there may be some edits necessary to get it completely working, it's also designed for Windows 7 rather than XP or Vista and should work on both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) systems. Having said that it should also work on XP and Vista in a similar way.

I have updated my guide to use the latest HTC Sync drivers as they appear to support adb correctly. I'll be editing my driver guide soon and possibly removing it altogether. I'm also a bleeding edge kind of guy but i've only recently found the latest version of the drivers to work. I had no idea about the implications, until now.
hey.
i have a tmobile g2 and i used btdag's guide for rooting it. seeing i tried to simple procedure and failed, i resorted to the goldcard method. it took me only 3 hours xD.
the reason it took me so long was the wrong drivers. when i reviewed the guide i tried the drivers mentioned there and it work. oddly enough, stock drivers that came with the g2 were said to be for g1 magic. the gold card method works flawlessly and now i have a rooted hero with amon_ra's recovery and custom rom.
btdag, mate, thanks for the guide. helped a lot.
oh and yeah...the "downgrade" was actually an upgrade seeing i had an even older rom on my hero (bought 6 weeks ago). stock rom was android 1.5 (ancient )
Thanks btdag, that revised goldcard tutorial worked a treat! I now have 2.73.4705.5 installed and can play properly!
The problem I had was the fastboot driver not being installed hence not connecting to the exe file upon the reboot. After installing the correct driver for that the process worked a treat.
As a side note, I couldn't connect to htc sync after changing the driver but it wasn't needed.
Thanks for all your help. Got a "buy me a beer" link?
Nath
Glad to have two positive responses to the revised guide.
@buddin - i also can't connect to htc sync at the moment, i'm wondering whether its because of my rom but maybe it is the software/driver, i'll look into it further.
I don't have a "buy me a beer" link cause I have only re-written other peoples work. Thanks for the praise though
i had the same problem about the htc syncr for weeks, it doesn't syncronise , i found that if uncheck USB debugging, and pull down the notification bar check the syncro and then open HTC syncro then it syncronises.
i think it something to do with, when ADB is setup and working somehow it cancels the HTC syncro, but who needs HTC syncro when you got ADB
i find HTC syncro useless comparing it to ADB. except from sync contacts and calendar ,that about it, nothing more. thanks to Btdag with his so made easy to follow guides and the all the devs for doing what HTC could not do.
try it guys, i may be wrong !!.
cheers
Hey, I've tried various methods of rooting my GSM Hero, and eventually found the method on this site entitled "VillainROM Roots 2.1 RUU for GSM Hero (Confirmed)". I got as far as trying to run runindos.bat, and this just returns the error as explained. If I run "adb devices" I get "List of devices attatched" and then just nothing after it. Strange.
Does it have anything to do with the fact that HTC Sync never picks up my phone?

USB Debugging is enabled, not sure how to check adb but what's the correct way to install the drivers? Is it by running the "SDK Manager" program in my SDK folder?
Moved to Q&A as not development.
Get the drivers via the sdk manager, and manually install them via device manager for the device.
Ahh, sorry about the wrong section. I assumed that Development would be things concerning roots.
SDK Manager only seems to let me install "SDK Platform Android X.X", I don't see any driver installations. Also, I'm not sure where it installs these to.
Edit:
Okay I tried to install "USB Driver" but Windows said that it was already up to date. Still not appearing in adb :/.
Hmmm. Search for drivers in dev forum, as I think I posted mine (or instructions to hack them) on one of the Froyd villain threads somewhere.
Also, I presume you have rebooted and tried adb right after reboot
Drivers for you
Thanks to you both, I'll try those later on today.
I'd rebooted both the PC and the phone and tried it. Nothing unfortunately. It just seems to be a big Windows 7 problem.
I use Win 7 without any problems.
Check out this epic guide by BTDAG,...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776056
Good news and bad news. The drivers are now working, adb is working and runindos.bat is doing it's thing. Unfortunately, when it reboots the second time for recovery, there's just a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it.
I rebooted and got back to where I was, but how do I get the "Care Bear" boot screen? Am I supposed to have moved RA-Hero to my phone first or do I not need anything?
Thanks.
Hi Craig. I had to repeat process 4-5 times before it worked so make sure you have your new rom on SD for when it works. I had all same probs but it will get there. As pulser said on villain try changing directory to avoid echo. It seems to load a little more each time.
Sent from my living room.
Hmm, if the recovery thing with the phone in the background comes up, and has "apply:update.zip" as a selection, should I try that? I've tried a few times and that's usually what comes up, along with reboot phone and another couple of selections.
I've got it! Thanks very much for everything. I just kept doing it and it's working now. I got FroydVillain and I'm loving it! I never realized the Hero could be so smooth.
Also sorry for the double post, I'm used to auto-merging on formus.
Ok i have been looking EVERYWHERE and it seems like all the guides are outdated and may not work if i have android 2.2.1 on the phone already.
I have
PVT 32A
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
in the settings on the phone it says my baseband version is 62.50Sj.20.17U_2.22.28.25 which doesnt seem to match up with the different guides out there.
PLEASE somebody link me to a guide that still works nowadays with android 2.2.1!!!!
Thank you!!!!!
The old guide on the cyanogenmod site should work fine. An image is provided to downgrade to like Cupcake or something, then you can root it. I was able to follow the directions a few months back on my wife's old mytouch 3g with no issue.
Where are you running into a snag?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Thanks for replying. Well to start, here it says.
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_(32A):_Rooting
About Screen
While booted go to Settings ยป About and look at the baseband version. You will see a long string with the last piece that looks like: 6.35.10.18 or 3.22.20.17 - that is the radio version
Except my baseband is something entirely different. I posted it in the original post.
Actually, if i just knew how to downgrade to cupcake for starters that would be great.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Help somebody???? Everything on the net doesnt match up with my phone for some reason. Like its all outdated.
Which mytouch 3g do you have?
T mobile my touch 3g. Its white and DOES have the regular headphone jack. And right now it has android 2.2.1 on it.
32A
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
baseband version says 62.50Sj.20.17U_2.22.28.25
Currently this phone is incredibly slow! I mean to the point of some people considering it unusable. I use it. But its a real pain. This is why i want to root. See if maybe an older version of android or a custom rom like cyanogen will speed it up.
If i simply put SAPPIMG.nbh on a freshly formatted fat32 sd card and fast boot or whatever it says unknown fail update fail.

Yay!!! This appears as if it might work for me! Thanks so much!
Ok so im running into a snag even though im following this guid exactly. Im at the superoneclick part.
In the left pane of superoneclick it says
Killing ADB server Killserver 0.10s *server not running*
Starting ADB server Startserver 4.30s *daemon not running. starting it now on port 5...
In the right pane it says
*Daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*daemon started successfully*
But its just sitting there forever. Nothing is happening. I have an hour glass for a mouse cursor. I have usb debugging on the phone turned on.
In my previous attempt to root my phone (following some other guide) i did use superoneclick and it said its been rooted but then wasnt. Or at least i couldnt do a su command (or whatever) from a terminal app on my phone. Could this previous attempt be messing with it?

Yes, it could mess with it. Did you reboot your device before trying this? It is recommended that you reboot your device after every root attempt.
I have definitely rebooted several times since the last attempt.
So, i just tried a factory reset and then tried super one click again with the same results. I of course enabled usb debugging and to allow non market apps.
What should i try next?

When using Superoneclick, did you follow all of its instructions correctly (especially disabling and enabling USB debugginig many times)? See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 and read the "Read me" for 11/10/2011.
Yeah i have disabled and reenabled usb debugging on the phone while superoneclick it trying to root like 10-15 times.

Okay. Try this method instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4314039.
Ok, ill try that method next. But i just tried a previous version of superoneclick and its giving me the same results except it also says waiting for device.
If i look in my device manager on windows xp pro the only thing i have for drivers says android phone and if i expand that it says android composite ADB interface.
Is this right? Or do i need mytouch drivers on my pc? Are these drivers i am seeing part of the android sdk program?

You do need drivers for your device installed on your pc. Yes, they could be for that (but you still need your device specific drivers).
Another thing is im using a mini usb cord but the plug on the mytouch is shaped differently. But it fits anyways and works for charging and file transfers.
Where can i find device drivers for my mytouch 3g? I havent seen any anywhere.
So I'm troubleshooting an issue I'm having with a nonbooting Rezound. Long story short, the battery ran down while in recovery (Philz Touch) and now it won't boot into ROM, bootloader, or recovery. I can't get the charging light to come on for more than a few medium flashes and one long flash when plugged in (wall, usb, 24+ hours). I can't even get it recognized on usb with the battery pulled and the "adb devices" command. I plug it in and I hear the usb connection sound but my computer shows an error for ADR6425lwv in device manager and tells me the driver isn't installed/needed which I suspect is the problem.
I recently uninstalled all things HTC to S-off my new One M8 (per firewater instructions) and now that I'm having these problems with drivers I want to reinstall HTC Sync for the drivers. However, I see that the Rezound is conspicuously missing from the list of supported devices on the HTC Sync website. Does anyone have an older installer or know of another way to ensure I actually have the necessary drivers for the Rezound? Win7 x64. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. I get the short blinks followed by one long one just like this which I assume tells me my phone is ready to receive adb commands. However, as I said earlier, adb returns nothing with the "adb devices" command. Therefore I can't send reboot or flash commands. It's looking more and more like a basic driver issue to me. I just can't find the driver and it looks like HTC sync doesn't contain it anymore. Could someone at least give me the driver version from device manager to help me with Google search terms?
http://sleezers.blogspot.com/2012/01/download-htc-rezound-driver-and-pc-sync.html?m=1 here's what I used. Worked perfect for me... Also with the phone is off. You won't get any thing back with your trying adb. I'm pretty sure you only get it in recovery or when the phone is in USB debugging mode. Or that's the only time I've gotten it to work

Hey nice find although it turns out I didn't need it. I had an Unbuntu Live CD booted on my laptop for a completely unrelated project and all of the sudden my phone booted up. It was still connected to the computer but only because I had forgotten about it. I don't even know what made it turn on, I wasn't touching it and didn't have adb installed since it was only a live CD. Anyway, it booted up and I let it sit and charge for an our or so. When I was done with Unbuntu, I rebooted into Windows, plugged the phone in and bingo, it found/installed the drivers. I can explain neither my initial problem nor the random unprompted solution. I'm sure glad it's up and running again though. Thanks again for the link.

Hi guys. I downloaded an update for Windows 8.1 on my laptop and ever since, some of my drivers have gone to crap. Anyways, I would like to root my old HTC EVO 3D (HTC EVO V 4G for Virgin Mobile), but I can't. First, I tried all of the "on device" root methods like Poot, Framaroot, z4root, etc. but none of them work. So then I finally tried rooting from the laptop but NO drivers I can find will work for this old device on a newer laptop. If there are any WINDOWS 8.1 (not 8) drivers out there for the HTC EVO V 4G model PG86100 that you can link in the comments or something, that would be spectacular. Also when I attempted rooting it a while back on command prompt I got the message "waiting for device" and it would never give me new information. If you paste in youtube: How To Root HTC EVO 3D [CDMA/GSM - Sprint and Virgin Mobile, Android ICS 4.0.3, HBOOT 1.58] you can see where I got stuck after typing in "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" Finally I tried Kingo Android Root, but it doesn't see the device, so I assume the driver still doesn't work.
PS: I was successful in rooting my LG G2 so I'm not entirely a noob.
Thanks for whoever can help.

I never had luck with older HTC fastboot drivers once I updated either. I actually do this stuff as a hobby and a job so work on LOTS of different phones and this is the most frustrating to me because of this. I keep a backup Win 7 PC just to do HTC stuff. I have tried tons of drivers, guides, rebooting, manual and auto driver installs and nothing helps. Most of the stuff I see says the issue is just for USB 3,0 ports, but I can't get the 2.0 ports to work either. I have no issues with the driver installs for adb and for MTP or USB mass storage, just fastboot refuses to work meaning you can't do half the stuff needed to start rooting them like unlocking the bootloader.
Only thing to really try is to just uninstall all HTC drivers from your PC, then reboot, then install HTC Sync, let it install the drivers, uninstall Sync (optional) and leave the drivers, and reboot. This probably won't help, but at that point, don't get too upset and just find a friend with a Win 7 PC. lol Good luck.
