I'm working on the tutorials from the android SDK pages(http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/starting-activity.html). I have no errors in my files (visibly atleast). The program runs just fine but there is something wrong with the intent or something. When I type something into the edit field and hit the send button, it just sits there. Nothing is happening. How can I figure out where the problem is?

I know lol. I was really just looking for direction on how to read the Eclipse logcat to figure out what is causing issues. I found my error, I inadvertently left out
Code:
startActivity(intent);
which is obviously important. I'm not sure how I missed it the few times of rechecking my code. I just couldn't find in the logcat where it was the program was leading to a dead end. I do CFML and when you debug, it's easier to read that the button isn't doing anything.

All,
Can anyone provide me the tweak or registry key to allow for me to continue typing on the thumb board while on a phone call? (Presently while talking, the system defaults to the number pad while talking)
Any help would be appreciated. I have seen a couple threads about changing the default keyboard config, but not for this one directly.
Thanks,

Interesting, so when you are in a call and you type an SMS or email at the same time, the "Y U I H J K B M N ." keys don't type numbers in their place? I would love to have the letters instead of only numbers. The numbers are a help in 2% of the cases, but for the most part, I want to type notes about phone calls and without having the thumb board working, I am stuck with the touchscreen and it is much slower for me.
Either way, I appreaciate your help

I'm using original spanish ROM WM6 and I have the same problem.
Me too
Let's bump this thread up the date sort:
AP 3.0, still. I can't get letters with the kbd at all when in a call, so I end up using an on-screen, or translating whatever I typed after the call. It sucks. I thought the active prg would dictate what happens with the keys. ???
I must admit the convenience of the automatic switch when in the phone app is nice.
I'm not getting why some units do this and some don't, or if it might be that people aren't using thier keyboards during a call in a different app.
Reg key? Any better ideas?

On screen keyboard or hardware keyboard? On screen works fine, hardware not since WM6.
its important to me, i would love to type using thumb keyboard while talking, i can confirm that vanilla version of 6.1 does that too but its a beta rom and i like AP4, maybe the athena project people can inlight us about this matter and creat a patch for us to use
for importancy am trying to keep this up, guys its doable, someone is required to just lead us, at least someone post me a clean (hard reseted) registery from a rom that works during call normally, and i will install it on my mobile (which doesn't type letters during call) if it works then at leaset we know its defenatly registry and there for i dedicate my life for it. any clean registry anyone can supply
PS am willing to Hard reset but not willing to reflash another rom am very tried from that business

If this drives you that nuts, then maybe you wouldn't mind doing a bit of investigation and sharing that with us?
Take a look at this registry key: HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartDialing\KeyboardMapping
There are some subkeys there, ToNum and ToSD. I'm guessing that those are responsible for the letter remapping. Would you mind taking a look and letting us know? Thanks!
Dialer/Dialer skine deppendent
It also could be that it is deppendent on dialer used in your system. Some dialers can switch keybaord to numbers and some can not. It would be nice if those who can write letters during a call could tell us which dialer is in their system.
Possible Path?
HKLM\Security\Phone\PhoneKeyMatch
Looks like this could be the ticket, will try to mess around with it and see if it makes any difference

it didn't work for me
Hey all,
i been following these forums for a while, now im lookin for an application that can basicly autoclick/record like a mouserecorder on the pc
my idea is basicly like this,
you have your application open, than press a key on your phone or 2 keys at the same time that starts the recorder when pressed again it stops and you are capable to run the saved record and or even loop it or run it a specific number of times
does this allready excist or is it easy for someone to make or a nice idea to do?
so after all this time, this app still doesnt excist?

I guess you are seeking what are called 'macros'. Closest on Android is Tasker. On rooted devices, it can simulate d-pad inputs.

Hi Everyone
This is a semi-fix for the SMS/MMS threading problem.
My setup : S3 i9305T
Rom: Pandoriam
Launcher: Nova Launcher
AOSP Messaging theme
I tried the other suggested solutions of putting in the country code for the number but that didn't work for me. I put in spaces but that didn't work either.
Solution - 1: What I found worked for me was to start the message thread. It seems that if I'm not the one that starts the thread, then when the person replied it goes to it's own thread.
Solution - 2: An issue occured where a friend of mine messaged me. I deleted the thread and then replied. When he replied it started a new thread again. I deleted the thread, deleted the contact, re-created the contact and then started a new thread. That fixed the problem.
The problem is still on going for MMS. But at least it's a partial fix =)
Hope this helps someone somewhere, merry christmas!

well, the OP's temporary fix is completely different from the link you posted
longice:
Hi guys,
I just thought I should bring a little "fix list" for the messaging threading issue. I seem to be having more trouble than anyone, so then I got a couple of tricks that seem to work
If you have troubles with threads splitting (multiple threads per contact), try the following in this order:
1. Download Number Fixer from Play Store and add country code to all numbers. Yes, all. Try with +xx (e.g. +44) first. Then open your Gmail and enter contacts page, remove ALL spaces.
2. If the above doesn't work, try changing country code to 00xx (e.g. 0044). And remove spaces.
3. If even that doesn't work for one or all contacts, try deleting country code for that contact.
4. As a last try, add country code 00xx and delete all messages. Then be a good friend - send your friend a message! BUT - in the recipient field, type the entire number (with country code) and DON'T select your friends name when it pops up (keep typing full number). Send the message and hopefully the reply threads as it is supposed to.
Right now I think I actually use all four solutions on different contacts Some work one way, some the other. But luckily I'm not the one that care about keeping my messages

Wow...what an interesting response for my first post.
Sorry longice but I won't be giving you any credits or thanks as I didn't find your fix that you posted 3 weeks ago. If I had I would have but I didn't so I won't.
If I ever post something again I'll have to make sure I scour the threads to make sure I don't get blamed for plagiarism......and here I was thinking that the main thing was to offer help to others....
And it's not a question so I will leave it here in General ...
I would have liked to post this in the [ROM][4.2.2][AOKP/CM] Unofficial Vanilla RootBox [Per-App-DPI][PIE] thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199598
but being a noob I have to get someone to link this issue to that developer thread.
Took the latest (Mar 20 14:22:28 + quinsyatt-Nightly-2-130320 and gapps-jb-20130301-signed for my I717)
Hit the microphone button on the keypad and sent Goggle search down a rabbit-hole that loops for while until "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped. Report/OK".
Pkg: com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
Exception class name: java.io.FileNotFoundException
Source file:AssetManager.java
Line number: -2
Stack trace: (last) android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: File res/raw/open.wav from drawable resource ID 0x7f080009
Can re-create at will and re-booting does not help.
This was my first JB rom attempt so after I mounted it as a USB drive, used it and ejected from the PC side (Win. 7), it would acknowledge the haptic keys but did nothing else. Only the long power button worked to power it off - is that normal?
Thanks for all your efforts - everyone!

They called you a noob because this issue is a Gapps issue which has been present with CM10.1 since the beginning. Update Google search in the app store and your problem will go away.
Its tough finding the right think via search.
But your more likely to find an answer in the Q&A section in the future--that's where people go to ask qusstions--but if you're like me, you often pop into the section to pay your dues, to learn what's been going on lately, or to find answers to problems you didn't know you had. I call it education.
Don't be discouraged. Some people are more supporting than others.
I've used search in one form or another since Winmo6, and my success rate has been limited.

On the rare chance it won't go away, use a different keyboard...like the "Jelly Bean Keyboard" or others like it from the market. They're exact copies of the stock one, often with a few added features.

Vanilla is quite small and has no built in alternatives and I have not found where that is or how to side load yet (but I'm still looking).

Hello,
I purchased the IR overlay from here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008QRZ7AM I got it working with my mk808b by using an idc fiile, however, it only allows one touch point which means no zoom. On the computer it is multitouch so does anyone have any ideas? Is there anything i should add to my idc file? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I'm sorry I can't help you. Actually I'm replying to ask you to share your idc file. I bought the hp 23tm touch monitor, which also has an optical 5 point multitouch, but I can't get it to move the cursor properly. I tried some .idc tweaks but no luck so far.
So please, can you share the contents of your idc file here?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
thanks for getting back to me. I was not expecting any reply at all.
And no, I was not able to get it to work. :crying: It is now sitting in its box, waiting for me to find some time for it again.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me with it.
Hey no problem! That's a bummer that it wouldn't work. I'll try my best and maybe we can get it going.
1. Did you try creating your own idc file and setting permissions?

Yes, I did create an idc file and experimented a bit with the following lines:
device.internal=0
touch.deviceType=touchScreen
touch.orientationAware=1
touch.gestureMode=default
touch.usingJitterFilter=1
I tried with different values for these parameters, but no luck.
Adding the .idc file has an effect, because the cursor that was visible before, is not showing when the idc is there. I hope its a matter of simply correctly configure and calibrate the device in the .idc file. I went through the android's help about the .idc files but I can't understand the calibration part there. It looks like you need to have some detailed knowledge about how the touch device on hp 23tm works and sends its data to the computer. I couldn't find such information anywhere.
Hi again,
can you share the contents of your idc file, so I can play with it and see if I can find something useful for my situation there?
Hello, I'm sorry for the delay. I've been working.
I'd be happy to share my idc file. I suggest you click the link below and read that thread. That's where I learned everything to get mine going.
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1802-Touchscreen
Follow that and it should all work smooth. I used ES File Explorer to copy the file then I used command line to set permissions. Best of luck! I can't promise quick replies because work is real busy but I'll be happy to help if You need anymore.
Checkout what I used my touch screen for.
