why sell a dev phone and not just 1 - AT&T HTC One (M7)

why did htc one comes in both dev and regular why can just they make one inst that like ripping people off

because the carriers want it locked down because a lot of dumbasses its true mess up their device when installing wrong ROMs and kernels. run to ATT and say the phone doesn't work omg I hate HTC. So ATT exchanges it then finds out the phone was rooted and unlocked and caused by user error.
That is why they release different versions

This is one of the greatest things HTC could have done, now most people don't have to be stuck with Sense if they don't want to be. It also appears that the 64GB may be At&t exclusive, so the Dev Edition is a lifesaver for some T-Mobile customers.

For its price and what it offers out if the box is great
Plus it makes sense lol because not every customer knows about rooting and stuff. But it would be great if they were able too.

Anyone else tempted to jump ship to the HTC One?

Just curious on what other LGOG users think of the HTC One announced today? I had the international HTC One X and really liked the phone, the camera was leaps and bounds better than the one on the LGOG. The LGOG camera, IMHO, is just ok.
The reason I left the One X for the LGOG was because AT&T lit up LTE in my area just as the LGOG was launched. I didn't hear great things about the One X+ so I went for the LGOG.
NOPE!

From what I've seen there's a quite a few people here who came from the HTC Inspire, which HTC screwed out of an update and have no feelings towards HTC. I happen to be one of those, I'll never buy another HTC phone

Conflicted
I'm really conflicted about it. I really love my LGOG after the N4 Conversion (with fixes, of course) but I also love my sister's HTC One which has a better display, and camera (IMO). I don't know... I'll probably check it out when it comes out but keep my LGOG till my contract ends.
Is it true it's only coming out 4.1.2? Just curious curious and no om enjoying my LG too much!

The HTC One looks like a great device! But I'll probably wait for my 2 year to finish up. I'm pretty content with the LGOG.

Me too. At least the development was fantastic though.
Nope. I came from the One X (AT&T variant) and while the camera was top notch, the locked bootloader, 2.20 root fiasco and a pretty locked down device isn't worth it. It was also my first HTC device and after experiencing Sense firsthand they can take that crap and shove it. It kills the device and is about as laggy and bad as Motoblur in it's heyday.
Now having vented about it I will say this, the device is still within the family AND that dev community here on XDA is topnotch and first rate. Very helpful to noobs and very, very good at getting the device blazing fast and customized.
HTC is just not for me as far as manufacturers go and I won't ever be owning another one unless it's free.
Man what are we going to buy? I got a moto one time. Everybody swore they would not buy another. So I got a sammy. Burned again. So i thought ok its because I'm not buying flagships. So I got the vivid practically on release day. Worst decision ever. Now I got this phone. Which I happen to love. U know every phone I own eventually got Aosp. I think it just does not happen fast enough for some people.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Not at all. HTC makes good devices, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to unlock the bootloader, for OS upgrades (I never count on AT&T providing support for the devices that they sell). In addition, the LGOG more than meets my needs for the foreseeable future. Why spend money if I don't see it as a meaningful upgrade.

Bah. If you don't mind switching carriers it is easy to break the contract, sell the old phone for most /all of the ETF. So getting new phones isn't really that hard financially - If you are willing to change carriers.

This is what I do, except I don't always switch between VZW and AT&T. Most of the time I can buy a phone outright keep it for 6 months sell it and buy a new one. It's amazing the deals you can get on eBay and Craigslist. If you do it right, you are out of pocket $200 to $300 a year which is what everyone pays to get a phone on a 2 year contract.
Posssibly. It seems a neat phone, but I will wait for the reviews. I'm getting more and more hiccups and glitches in my OG, and I believe at least 2 are hardware. I hate HTC, but I like metal phones and stereo sound. We'll see.

I came from HTC evo 3d , rooting , unlocking were fairly easy, it was getting the s-off that was a pain! I don't know if anyone had the "wire trick" fun lol. But after all that I had 4.2 cm10 and man that device screamed!
Now , I have never owned a lg but besides the slow go on development, which is just because the phone is so new and waiting for true jb release to att . I love this phone! Took me a while to get over my flashaholic nature , and with aosp to come out any day I'm excited!
The camera is sketchy, but if your trying to take professional photos, get a real camera in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't think I'll ever look back at HTC ,
Its not about what you know , but who you know.

Goodbye HTC One

Hey guys I traded my htc one for an s4. I just wanted to let you all know this is the best device forum I have ever been a part of. Everyone here was very helpful and great. This forum will be missed especially with all the ignorant and new android users on the s4 forum.

Cool story, bro.
Actually traded because I can actually enable the 1700mhz band on the s4 unlike the HTC one. I'm switching over to t mobile so this was the main thing. Also I figured it'd be easier to trade the s4 for an actual t mobile phone (Xperia Z) since more people know about the s4. Flawed logic to some but oh well.

Just curious, the T-Mobile version of the One doesn't support 1700 mhz? I'm an AT&T user, so I'm unfamiliar with such things.
The t mobile version does support the 1700mhz band. I'm switching to t mobile and taking my phone with me in October. The att htc one doesn't support the 1700mhz band for t mobile so it would have been crippled on t mobile's network.

sometimes people want to be strange/rude/etc, kayone73. I can't think of any legitimate reason to try to drum up interest by saying "IM GETTING RID OF MY PHONE AND GETTING A DIFFERENT ONE". This shouldn't even be a thread, honestly.
Enjoy the SGS4, honestly you cannot go wrong with either phone.
Regardless, this thread doesn't actually have anything to do with the HTC One as regards informational purposes so I am going to lay it to rest.

Do you guys know what a self-fulfilling prophecy is? Honestly, I think it will happen, ive learned a lot just so I can try to help solve this too. The more negative people are about it though the less likely people will be to discuss it or be motivated to do it.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Realistically the only people "qualified" to answer this question would be a developer working on this. Anything a normal user says is pure speculation.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I don't mind speculation.
If enough of us wish for it to happen than maybe it will (remember Peter Pan?)
There's a way around everything.
Self fulfilling prophecy theory is lame. Not only is it fake but a lazy way to think. The only ones who can figure it out are the ones trying to hack it. The rest of the people can think whatever they want. They have no impact on it happening or not.
With that said I do not believe this will be unlocked. The beauty of design in this thing limits the amount of roads one can take to attack it. Its never been cracked and its been tried for well over a year spanning multiple devices. We only had a *unlock* because of leaked info. That's it. If that didn't happen we would all have nothing.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I am optimistic but honestly I will likely be on the next device GN3 or something else long before it happens. Yet I still offered up my money to help motivate those who can get it done.
Odds Key Lime Pie for S4 happens?
As a previous Verizon user, I don't see this being unlocked.. Sorry
Not holding my breath. Anyone like to purchase a brand new GS4? I will never buy another phone before doing some homework. Good luck to those trying.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
The real question isn't will it be unlocked (it won't be). It's will a leaked unlocked bootloader become available.
This is basically bad new for anyone wanting a phone with SDcard support and an unlocked boot loader in the future on VZW or AT&T. Samsung is the only SD option now... And it looks like they've got this boot loader thing locked down (no pun intended), at least when it comes up Qualcomm. If the Note 3 uses an s800, I don't see why the boot loader situation would be any different from the S4 and S4 active...
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
Vote with your goddamned wallets!
I hate to also be the voice of reason but the sad reality is that this booting processes is sealed up tight and it's all Verizon's doing. I'm here for my room mate who hates his stock S4 with a passion but absolutely loves my CM10.x+OC S4...I just switched from Sprint to T-Mobile, for networks. I considered Verizon and ATT but having had friends with Verizon phones (Motos especially) over the past few years I knew that it was nearly pointless, save for a leaked engineering/unlocked signed bootloader or 1 chance at an exploit on release-day firmware before it was sealed up tight and likely for good.
It's not that I have no hope, there's always a chance and there is always a way...but with each successive breach of such a system the next iteration becomes exponentially more difficult to overcome.
I stuck with Sprint's haggard network for years because I knew they didn't give phone hackers a hard time. I switched to T-Mobile because I did my research and found the same. HTC capitulated on their new locked and encryption signed bootloaders after the EVO3D debacle a few years back.
As for my new Samsung Galaxy S4? I had my phone for 20 minutes before I flashed a custom recovery and had a CM10.1 nightly running with a custom 2.2ghz OC kernel that comes with tons of governors, tons of IO schedulers...on light use with screen turned down low, OC'd to 135mhz/2.1ghz I can get almost 2 days out of my phone and it is smooth as effing silk like no phone I've ever seen...and I've had no wakelock problems.
This phone screams.
Am I bragging? Sure...but not to hurt your feelings. I'm sick of companies acting like THEY own the computer that YOU bought for YOUR pocket. I'm bragging to enrage you.
Vote with your goddamned wallets. I did when HTC wouldn't unload their bootlockers (lol), and Samsung will forever have my business unless they start that crap too (or their phones start to suck)....same goes for T-Mobile. (Protip: stick to the underdogs. You get far better customer service and far more leeway...when you are #1 and #2 you appear to not need to try anymore and treating your customers like idiot children and criminals is somehow acceptable).
This isn't Samsung's doing...ask any Sprint, T-Mobile or international model owners.
Vote with your goddamned wallets.
I wish the best to you my brethren. Good luck and happy hacking.
well...

Any phones you guys are excited for?

So all of you note users.. what phones have you switched to? Or what phones are you keeping your eye on?
I've got my upgrade coming up next month. The cool new phones that caught my eye are the G Flex and the HTC One (bit older though). It doesn't seem like ATT has many new options that aren't just new versions of the galaxy devices. The Gflex in particular I think looks awesome from first glance.. but i think a 6" screen is just a bit too ridiculous. I was thinking of dropping down in size if anything from my Note.
Wait for the S5. On feb 24th they are going to announce its release date. It will be the first phone with 64bit processing. It's a smidge smaller than the note.
I moved on to the note 3. I dint recommend it. The bootloader is locked and we have to use safestrap.
I'm waiting on the S5.
Only going to get it if there's an all-metal version.
If not I'll stick to the Note 1.
The Note 3 has a locked bootloader could imply that the S5 might have it as well.

Since the note 3 from att has locked bootloaders we cant install kernels, or custom recoveries. There's software called Safe Strap or "SS" that allows us to partition the device memory and install slots. We can install custom roms in these slots and run them. But that's it! No cpu control, no governors, no over/under volting, no cool stuff like that which gives our device freedom to perform the way we want it too. If you want a note 3, buy an unlocked N9000. Not the N9005, or N900A.
I'm ready about to get an xperia z1s from tmobile, I have the want/need to get away from the samsung scene, it has a locked boot loader as well but I hope root will come out for that phone soon, from reviews I see for that phone it is a already great phone and one person on xda said it will be like icing on the cake to get root
I bought a note 2 at a decent price and it was nearly brand new. Got cm11 on it and it's great

Future Development

Is anyone else worried about the future of development for cell phones? They seem to get more and more locked down. Imagine that our g2 came with only kitkat and we only had kitkat . Tot files? There wouldn't be any recovery or root or even roms. I'm worried about future phones being even more unhackable.
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
Look at HTC and S-Off, at least its not like that. It was so complicated to S-Off the Butterfly, never encountered anything like that and my Tegra3 One X, never even got S-Off. XDA devs and contributors almost always find ways to get through the hurdles. A Dev named football used to leak One X RUUs and Test ROMs, he was threatened by HTC with legal action. Id say LG so far is much better than that.
There will always be nexus for rooting and stuff .., but the manufacturers should allow software modding and not be so restrictive when often times rooting solves problems in the stock roms
Sent from my LG-D803 using XDA Free mobile app
These phones aren't unlockable...it's just there's much easier ways to work around. If it were an s5 or g3, it would be unlocked but we had an alternate route so why bother going through the tougher hacking?
