[Q] Data connection 'asleep' - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, recently I just flashed liquidsmooth rc2 4.2.2 rom. The data network seems to be always 'asleep', I do not receives notifications for whatsapp and facebook. Unless, I surf the net using browser or stream some youtube videos. I saw many posts about flashing a radio after a custom rom, so do I need to flash a radio? (there is no fm radio app after i flashed the rom and gapps)
Model: Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300
Custom Rom: LiquidSmooth v2.1-RC2
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9300DXELK1

Radio in this case means modem (baseband)
You have a baseband but it might be incompatible, ......it's the baseband you are showing the one you had before the flash?
Also check your apn settings, you might need to get them from your carrier

Anyone please?
Check APN settings. Or use a APN app from market.
That actually sounds like a great idea! what about rooting it now? I couldn't find the build that matches or somethinglike that? Clockwork...roms, etc
Sent from my MIUI G2x
might be that no rom/kernel is working with the chinesed version of the phone out of the box. you have a gt i9108 and not gt i9100...
and first of all you'll have to root it

You can try to install google app package "gapps-gb-20111012.zip", you can find easy, but need root.

[Q] Strang network/signal problem in Galaxy S2 I9100G

Hi Friends,
My Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100G) has a strange network issue. My phone suddenly becomes unreachable and network does not reconnect automatically but it shows full signal bars on the display. I have to restart the phone then only it works. It happens many time in a day.
My phone has offical 2.3.6 without any customization done on it. I installed ICS also but facing same issue.
Model: I9100G
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100GDDKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKJ2
Please let me know fix for this issue.
Thanks
Try changing modem version.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I'm having the exact same issue. How do you change the modem version?
By flashing modem file as phone in Odin or by CWM.
For CWM: http://veyka.co.uk/radios
Try GetRIL from Google Play, this should fix your problems.
Baseband and Modem version do not match, thats why your having this problem.

[Q] Galaxy S3 to stock - No cell conenction

I have been using custom roms for 2 years. Decided to go stock. I am in Australia, and my Galaxy S3 (T) is bought through a group called Crazy Johns, but they are owned by Vodafone.
I found a stock ROM:
I9300XXEMC2_I9300OXAEMC2_BTU
I flashed it successfully, and all starts up nicely. However, I can't get any cellular data. No calls... no data.
I manually try to connect to Vodafone network in the Network settings, but then get told "Vodafone unavailable".
I then tried to download a new modem, hoping that was the issue.
I got one called modem_RIL_CWM_I9300TDUEMB1
No luck.
I then thought, OK, maybe Vodafone isn't allowing my pone on the network, because the firmware isn't a Vodafone official one? But, that can't be right. I could have bought my phone from outside Australia.
Funny thing is, when I got the phone, it shows 'Crazy Johns' on the settings screen. Now, I have no mention of Crazy Johns. Is it modem related?

I'm not sure. I was using Omega 43.9 firmware version before, and it was working fine.
Details on their page are:
Based on firmware XXEMG5 Android 4.1.2 (Date: 17/07/2013)
Kernel Stock XXEMG5
Modem DDEMG2
Multi 130 csc set to EUR
I see an 'MG5' there.
Could this be an issue?

Mg5 and mg4 are the latest modem. If you were on it you can't go on the older one. You have to do 2 thinks: if you have the efs backup do restore, it's contain your imei, because now you lost it, or flah the mg4 or mg5 modem. But you find everything on the s3 general section.

Also it appears its flashing the rom that modifies efs now. Flashing modem alone does nothing

Any chance you could help me out? I started a thread yesterday with my own problems with a couple of replies but nothing that really explained how to solve my problem.
I flashed a MIUI rom based on CM10.1 with a baseband I9300XXDLI8, because of wifi problems decided to go back to stock I9300OXAALE8 (BTU)
Had the messed up IMEI problem but my EFS backup I made in Dec 12 is only 32kb! Copied all files to efs folder on phone and got my IMEI number back but phone wouldn't accept my contract 3UK sim (no network - emergency calls etc) but would my O2 PAYG sim.
I flased a custom rom (GlamourS4) and ended up with baseband I900DDEMG2 and build I900XXUFME7. I was advised to reflash because my baseband was different to my firmware, downloaded latest BTU from sammombile and phone now reads:
Baseband I9300XXEMG4 - Build I9300XXEMG4 but I'm still having problems with my phone not accepting my 3 sim but ok with O2 sim. Phone is on 3 contract by the way.
Sorry to hijack someone's thread but getting a little desperate, old age is creeping in and I'm honestly finding it difficult to understand the talk about modems etc.My original help request is HERE and has screen shots if it's any help. Thanks in advance
Thread moved to proper forum.

Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 no signal

Yesterday I updated my i9300 to android 4.3
Baseband version I9300BUUGMJ3
Build number JSS15J.I9300XXUGMJ9
..and since then I haven't had any reception. My imei number, serial number, and everything else is same and still there, but I just can't get it to get reception again... When I go to my Mobile Networks, it says registered on network, but again, no reception. Then I tried installing the modem BUUGMJ3 with odin which didn't work. What can help? Stock firmware? Please help.
Thanks in advance.
currently experiencing the same issue mate. I can't seem to find a workaround/solution for this -__-
Is that base band supposed to work in your country? Find an modem later than EMGx, without a RIL, for your country and install that to test.

I've probably made a big mistake there, no it's meant for mine country, it's for the county near mine, Croatia, but I read somewhere that this doesn't matter.. :/
And by 'later than EMGx' I'm not sure what you mean, but I've flashed EMG4 modem which didn't seem to work.
Found something about flashing a previous modem and restoring your EFS folder, but I do not have my EFS folder backed up - I forgot to.
A few days ago I paid about $30 for a repair on my phone, I don't really want to send it off for repairs again, I really wonder if there is an fix to this
Follow the guides in general forum, stickies on how to flash back to 4.1.2 stock rom. Make sure it's at least EMG4 base band.

but I downloaded the right stock firmware for my country, I9300XXEMG4_I9300BHTEMH1_I9300XXEMG4, but after I flash it via odin when the phone turns on it gets stuck in a loop showing the Samsung logo repeatedly...

how about your IMEI/Serial numbers? are they still the same before you downgrade and flashed the XEMG4 modem? mine are the same with SN/IMEI so I guess that's why it worked. I just took the risk cause I was really pissed experiencing the lag and the battery drain in 4.3.
Do factory reset from settings option in touch wiz, make sure the imei and serial number match the label under your battery.
If still no good then try another SIM in your phone, final steps would be restore efs backup then repair centre.

Well it's all the same as it used to be. Could it be that the modem I had before EMG4 changed the format of my efs folder?

Android 4.1.2 EMG4 modem still no reception.
It seems that MGX modem has change ur IMEI from /efs1 to /efs2. MGX modem seems to support only 4.3 roms (due to some security issue).
It is not recommended, but u could flash an older rom with modem (get from www.sammobile.com) then restore an efs backup (if u did some) from /efs2 to /efs1

Ariza patch only works on older modems (efs v1 modems). So, that wont help.
You said you flashed the zuluman modems but.... did you flash the patched kernels too? You need the patched kernels for the patched modems to work. I don't know why, but that's what zuluman says (according to him, the kernel has a modem signature check and it wont work if the modem was modified).

You can download the latest official firmware from the general section of this forum.

You have to flash an Android 4.3 modem for it to work I think but as your on 4.1.2 now I guess it doesn't matter anymore

[Q] Baseband download XXLS6; XXLS8 (KK)

When I launch GetRIL I see this:
RIL: KitKat (I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8)
md5sum: 163ecafa01912637fe344ec1f8264d70
Baseband: I9100XXLS8
recommended: I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8
RIL/baseband doesn't match
Where can I download 'I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8' baseband?
I've searched all over google and can't find it. I can only find I9100XXLS6 OR I9100XXLS8, but not the one together.
Clearly you haven't been searching all over google yet, neither the app.

I tought basebands comes pre with Roms ?
Actually.. This is pretty confusing. I've got a I9100P with kitkat 4.4.4 (CM 11.0)
Was wondering if i actually could try the KitKat (I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8) , Since the getril app is recommending me I9100XXLS8; I9100PXXLS8.
Because S2 comes actually with Jelly bean 4.1.2 and the stock modems are designed for jelly bean.
Like im really confused right now. Should i try KitKat (I9100XXLS6; I9100XXLS8) for my I9100P?

Only RIL comes with roms, at least carbon does not flash basebands.
you can either have xxls8 or xxls6 baseband(i.e. modem) on your phone at one time.
So if you have xxls8 baseband on your phone, download matching RIL from GetRIL and install it. That should be enough.
Is this mismatch causing any issues in your phone? or are you just getting curious after seeing the results in getril?

A bit of both.
When I flash XXLS6 or XXLS8 baseband, GetRIL gives me the option to install XXLS6; XXLS8 ril, but not the one from kitkat (and if I use the kitkat ril it says that it does not match)
Also, my other problem is the muffled microphone, it only works when I shout or using the handsfree mode.
It worked before on stock 2.3.3 (was shipped with it), it worked also with XXMS4 (baseband + ril) but I could not call or hang up. When I flash XXMS4 (baseband + ril) now I still have the muffled mic.
And in the service menu I can not select 5 Audio, it doesn't exists. Also, mic boost with sTweaks doesn't work.

Why do you want to install kitkat RIL specifically? AFAIK, RIL and modems are independent of the ROMs.
About your microphone, a modem change wont help or a modem/ril mismatch wont affect it. If mic boost with stweaks itself didnt work they I would suggest you to check your hardware. There is a chance your usb port is gone.

The kitkat ril is needed, I can not make calls or hang up with XXMS4 (not tested with other jb modems/rils).
There might be a chance that it is a hw issue, but I've read on some other topics over the internet that a usb board replace didn't help.
