Here recently there has been a wave of less experienced users (noobs like XDA likes to call them) who have a problem. Either they've spend their entire custom rom life on sense ROMs or they're new to rooting, flashing ROMs and that kind of thing and don't know how to change their APNs in AOSP based ROMs.
Well, in an effort to keep from answering the same question (how do I go about changing my APN's?) over and over again, I created this thread.
Please keep in mind that this guide is for less experienced users BUT that does not mean it takes any responsibility from you as the owner of your phone.
What you do to your phone is on you and you alone! I, nor XDA takes any responsibility for what you do to your phone!
If you read the above and fully understand, then let's begin!!
1. Open your app drawer and find the Voice Dialer app
2. Tap on the app and wait for the microphone to fully show up and then say the letters A P N
3. If you said it correctly, a menu should appear like below. Click on Open APNs
4. Once you click on it, you will see a page like what you see below
5. Hit your menu hardware button or navbar button if you don't have a menu hardware button. Once you do that, you should see a menu pop up like below
6. Go ahead and press New APN
7. After pressing New APN, this will bring up an empty APN sheet where you will be able to plug in your carrier's APNs as pictured below.
8. After you plugged in the necessary fields as per your carrier's APNs then go ahead and hit the menu hardware button or navbar menu button and hit SAVE as pictured below
9. After you hit save, you should see your APN slot and if is not selected then press on the circle the right of it.
10. Reboot your phone and ENJOY!!
I said it before I started this guide BUT just to make sure it didn't go without notice, I will state it again.
I, nor XDA takes any responsibility for what you do to your phone! You're the owner of your phone and by doing ANYTHING to your phone, that is a choice you made and only you made!
This guide is only for educational purposes. I will try to answer as many questions as possible BUT I will not go into ROM related questions.
Thank you and once again, I hope this guide will at the very least cut down on the questions that asked in several development threads about APNs.
Developers, please feel free to link to this thread in your OPs if you wish!

i wanted to mention the build.prop and apns-config.xml for flashed phones like mine
i have to edit the build.prop from sprint to cricket and 310016
and paste my own apns-config
and somewhere i found a reworked mms.apk that gives me cricket mms (from and to a cricket phone)
Voice Dialer is driving me nuts...
Hi guys
I've got a Sprint Nexus 5 running Dirty Unicorns Hammerhead. I know this is an EVO 3D board, but this thread is directly relevant to my issue.
Apparently there is an issue with Sprint and DU having trouble downloading MMS messages. This was supposedly fixed in a prior DU release, but I'm still having the issue.
According to this thread, it's an APN issue (need to reset APN to default), which brought me to this thread.
However, when I try to use my voice dialer to get to the APN settings, my voice dialer never fully starts up. Supposedly, this is due to LG not pre-loading the voice-to-text software in the rom. However, I have no idea how to find Text-to-speech settings in Dirty Unicorns.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thought I'd chime in with an update. My issue was that Dirty Unicorns is very proactive with its privacy permissions. By default, apps are opted out of all your phone functions. You have to use the DU privacy manager to specifically give your phone permissions, and yes that includes allowing your SMS/MMS software to send messages and pics.

v3.3.12 update:
- Added free music of the week;
- Specially designed for Google Music App;
- Brand new setting: Auto update application;
- Brand new setting: Update Using WiFi only;
- Brand new setting: Automatic add shortcut;
- Microphone (voice command) switch in search menu;
- Small font;
- New application drawer icon;
- Star rating (review) chart on application page;
- Some Other Minor UI tweak.
New version Android Market, rolling out with new settings, and new icon.
There’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
You can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device. If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

Hi, I've been using this updated market for a few days, it does work much better then the older one, say 3.15 I think was the last one that was pushed onto my legend, less lag and loads much quicker for me.
I still don't like the layout as much as the even older versions, say 2.36, I find it hard the simply browse the available apps like the old version :-(
To install, all i had to do was download direct to my phone then open up ES filemanager and tap the file, installed over the top of the old one no issues for me.

Glad it went easy for you. Adb push via recovery is also an option.
Unfortunately they didn't solve the bug regarding custom screen DPI setting. I've explained HERE. Till Google will solve this, I must stick to the old market unfortunately.
For me.. this market is quite fast..
Faster than 3.2.0 i'm using previously..
but thats only happening on 3G..
If i'm on Edge.. I'll get either FC or Conn Time Out..

Could someone give me the link to DL the old Vending.apk (2.x market available for 7.0RC) ?
I got enough of this PHAT app.
Thanks.
Thanks, it doesn't crash as often as the previous version on stock.
seems faster than 3.3.11 which repeatedly had "no connection" when it wasn't already started
now it's even fast using 3G!

I was wondering if there is anyway to make more applications show up for this earphones connected prompt in my notification drop down. If there isn't, is there a way to disable it completely? It is really not helpful without giving me like google music or something else as an option.

Also somewhat related, does the galaxy s3 have support for lock screen music controls? I know it was a ICS default feature. It doesn't show for Google Play Music (or whatever it's name is at this point).
I also would like to add Google music and iheart radio in that menu. Any ideas? I am currently rooted using stock ROM

Just figured I should mention this, I put this rom on: and now I got more options, probably the stock options. It would be awesome to make this configurable in the future. I think a lot of us are getting ahead on expectations in development right now with this locked down bootloader, as it is still in the way of custom kernels and such. I think many of the capable dev's are busy trying to figure out how to fully unlock this device.
Heres an idea, I might give this one a try:
based off this: http://www.s3forums.com/forum/galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/874-hack-remove-wifi-reminder.html
edit this:
ContextAwareService -> logDatabase.db -> appLogTable
This appears to be holding the same shortcuts that the headphones plugged in thing brings up. When I plug in my headphones it crashes the SQLite Editor if I am viewing the database at the same time. Which leads me to believe it is making use of the sqlite database.
Edit:
indeed, I deleted the google talk as an option and it no longer shows when I plug in the headphones.
Update on progress:
I found the touchwiz home database which gave me the launch commands for different applications. I think I can add whichever I want to that database list in the same format at this point. Phone is doing a nandroid backup before I go any further. Here are the screen shots, and it was located in:
TouchWiz home -> launcher.db -> appOrder
Is there a hide/spoiler/resize option for the images? They are kind of large...
Got it working. =)
So I'll try to write up a better how to in the next few days. But these screen shots should be sufficient for now I figure. Here is proof it is working:
quick side note: notice the number skips 9 (what gtalk used to occupy). I would probably just edit gtalk to become Play Music, instead of deleting as I did.
__
__
edit:
Quick observation, anyone notice the fm radio option is default in the database? Not sure if that is because of the rom, or if included with even the stock Verizon.

I would like to know to remove the option completely too...as it takes too much space in drop-down notification
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'll do a nandroid backup and see if deleting the entries removes it cleanly. I suspecting the icon will still be there and such. Seems like a poor way to remove it even if it does work, I imagine the process will still run and such even if it doesn't show in notification bar. Giving it a shot in a little bit though.
Quick report back while I restore:
At first, it actually restored the original options after I deleted all entries. If I want into another table within the database and set the value to 0, then deleted the entries they would stay gone. Although they still allocated the same space it just didn't show them. I'll provide screenshots shortly.
Screenshots:
First attempt repopulated the default options:
Second attempt:
First go to 'sqllite seq' and set 'appLogTable' equal to 0:
Once again delete all the entries
Then you get this:
So even worse than I suspected. I thought it would at least allocate some extra space in the notification drop down. It takes up the same room, it is just blank now.
Made the how to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28986432#post28986432
freezing the contextaware service gets rid of it showing from the notifications at all
I forget who discovered this but it wasnt me

Ah, I'm sorry I didn't think of that.
I believe it relies on the sms app you use.
Try an alternative like handcent or gosms.
Or maybe you could get the app from another version of the phone, one of the Canadian or global variants.
Not sure if they would have the option, but they might.
I'm on the Canadian jellybean v.3 though

Delivery reports
Hi there,
The stock at&t messaging app is able to request delivery reports. Only, for some reason, this option gets lost sometimes, along with the notification led blinking for missed calls or sms. The solution that worked for me might help you as well, if you are rooted- If you have a system app. Remover or another app that makes it possible to get rid of system apps preinstalled in the phone. Each such application should have the option to back up every system app before uninstall. So, you backup your messaging app. - called lgmsg3.apk (or something like that I might not remember it precisely), then you uninstall it, reboot your device, and through the very same app. - system app remover, you hit restore app and choose the messaging application. It asks you whether it is a system app, you hit yes and here you go delivery reports (under settings, text messages) as well as led blinking for missed events are back!
Hi:
I just did what you said... no it does not work. The version of the software you use is 3.2.31??? The one I have is that and no... it does not work.
I appreciate your help on this if you have any new tip on this.
Thanks

Hope people like this, it's a little mod that enables multiple users on the phone. I have it set at a max of eight users that can be added (though I only use 2, 1 for me and 1 for guest.)
Issues:
*reboot of the shell when adding a new user.
*phone calls can not be placed via secondary users.
*while logged in to a secondary user if receiving a phone call, you must switch back to primary users to accept.
*themes do not work with secondary users.
Just flash through recovery and enjoy

The no root access is a form of security and also due to superuser not being updated in almost a year. If you install superSu or (I believe) the cyanogenmod superuser, you can enable root on other profiles. Text messages can be sent via the other profiles, but they can not be viewed. Calls are supposed to be able to be received however upon testing they ring, but there's no way to answer. I'm looking in to this now.
Here is a mod that shouldn't have the lock screen bubbles: http://db.tt/BNEMJC6u
Let me amend that statement, calls can not be placed in secondary users. Due to the feature being for tablets and tablets not including phone capabilities
So seems like the calling issues are limitations of android. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, but it's way out of my league
Great job on this joey! I'm not on CM, I'm on rootbox, so it may or may not work. As for the phone/calling issue, is it only on the secondary profile, or does this bork calls for primary/all profiles?
Thanks.

Primary user is just fine. If you switch users while the phone is ringing you can still answer it too.
The issue with the phone in secondary users is it checks the userID and rejects anything but the primary user causing a force close when trying to call.
Also if this mod won't work for your ROM I'll try and see if I can make one that works for rootbox

I had a theme enabled when I first added a user and when I went to select the new user to set it up I got a ton of FC's. I switched back to the stock theme and the FC's were gone.
EDIT: Set up the new user, went back to the owner user, changed the theme and I get the same FC's when going back to the guest.

Already booted and running. Rom is buttery smooth and everything that should be working is working. LTE/Data is functional on the first boot. NFC still borked. GPS locked with no issues. Bluetooth with my Moto 360 appears to be working as it should be. Only thing I've seen so far that's kinda weird is with the DPI. If you look in the top right of the posted photo, the DPI has the buttons in the settings area super tiny. Otherwise it's totally on-par with CM12 right now. Nice work! Can't wait to see what direction this one will go in!
Edit: Instead of saying "no sim card" the lockscreen now says, "SIM/RUIM IS PERSO LOCKED - SPRINT". I find that funnier, somehow. Lol

Everything works and I like the DPI if you install SwiftKey and it's funky set the DPI to 480
